Successful comic book adaptations have been a thing since forever, but we can all agree that it’s only been in the last 15 years or so that comic book movies have really become a juggernaut at the box office. And the numbers back this up; multiple comic book movies have crossed the billion-dollar mark in the last decade and a half. This got me thinking, however. Out of all the comic book movies that have been released, which have been the most successful at the box office? Well, if you’ve been wondering that too, don’t worry, let’s go through it together.

Highest-Grossing Comic Book Movies Ever

5. Avengers: Age of Ultron

  1. The Avengers
  2. Spider-Man: No Way Home
  3. Avengers: Infinity War
  4. Avengers: Endgame

5. Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 Billion)

The second installment in the Avengers franchise saw the superhero team go up against the extremely intelligent robot, Ultron. However, he’s not alone. He has an army of robots and two superpowered twins to help him do his bidding, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. But that’s not enough for Ultron as he also creates the synthezoid Vision, who eventually turns on his creator and allies with the Avengers.

This 2015 movie earned $1.4 billion at the box office and cemented the Avengers film series as a force to be reckoned with. Find out where you can stream Avengers: Age of Ultron here.

4. The Avengers ($1.5 Billion)

The Avengers saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes come together to defeat a threat like no other. The God of Mischief, Loki, is on a mission to conquer Earth, and he will try to do so by any means necessary. He and his army of aliens, known as the Chitauri, wreak havoc on New York and wage war against the freshly formed Avengers. It clearly does not go well for Loki.

The first Avengers film reached $1.5 billion at the box office. Find out where you can stream The Avengers here.

3. Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.9 Billion)

Even though Spider-Man is one of the most recognizable superheroes of all time, this movie is the only non-Avenger film on this list. However, it does have an Avengers-type vibe going on. That’s because this movie is a crossover that sees different superheroes come together to defeat a threat that can’t be defeated alone. It just so happens that the heroes who team up are Spider-Man, Spider-Man, and also Spider-Man.

2. Avengers: Infinity War ($2 Billion)

The Avengers have faced earth-shattering threats before. They defeated an Asgardian God, they defeated a murderous robot, but that pales in comparison to what comes next. Because it’s not just the world that’s being threatened; it’s the entire universe. The Mad Titan Thanos finally makes his move and tries to claim all the Infinity Stones so he can wipe out half of all life in the universe. It’s up to the Avengers, all of them, to try to stop him before it’s too late.

Speaking of earth-shattering, Avengers: Infinity War shattered the box office upon its release, eventually grossing $2 billion. Click here to find out where you can stream this movie.

1. Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 Billion)

The hype around this movie was immeasurable; it will be a long time before we see anything like this again, if we ever do. So, it’s no surprise that this movie also shattered the box office, picked up all the pieces, then shattered it again. When the dust finally settled, Avengers: Endgame grossed $2.7 billion. But what’s the movie even about?

Picking up directly after Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame sees the Avengers come together once more to try and defeat Thanos. If they found it hard the first time, they’re going to find it 10x harder this time. An accumulation of an 11-year journey, it’s no surprise that this film did as well as it did. You can find out where Avengers: Endgame is streaming here.

Records are meant to be broken, however, and we’ll see if Avengers: Doomsday will eventually join the list of highest-grossing comic book movies of all time.
