Identity management has evolved so much that it no longer just serves your internal employees but your customers too. Traditional identity access management systems were created to manage your employees and their identities in the workplace. However an IAM system does not work well with ensuring good user experiences or customer expectations. A CIAM solution is designed to specifically manage everything that is customer facing. This includes functions like customer authentication and privacy and data regulations worldwide. An IAM solution does not have the capabilities to manage thousands of users on their consumer-facing platforms.
