I knew I was in trouble when they said they would experiment with my gills. Trapped in this orangish red body, I have no idea how to get out of here. My species is not made for swimming in such currents. I am only a being with a fat body and a tail that does squat in such cages! These big shadows, swimming around in their trunk suits…Oh, Great Coral of Seven Seas, deliver me from this evil! Just free me, please… These creatures with four-finned extensions keep on catching my brethren and keep experimenting on us. I thought I was fortunate when they experimented on me. Now I realize…my brethren who died quicker are no longer suffering. Their sole thought was to eat, mate and sleep. And for some of them, not being hunted by predators while confined to these safe prisons was good enough. For me, though…that old man with a pale grey body and strange bluish eyes has taken a fascination to me. He wears a large white coat. First, he gave me shocks…and then he did something with those wires embedded in my head. Now…I can feel…think…and process emotions far more complex than my brethren. I don’t know how much more I can take…I no longer crave food or sex…I crave freedom! I know vicious dangers lie out there, outside the big domed cage these demons live in. But…to be in control of my own destiny…that’s an amazing thought! Oh, wait…that old man is moving towards me again! Divine Coral…please help me! Please! That’s the prayer one of them recites every day and it does wonders for his motivation. Please, Divine Coral, if you are real, listen to me please! The moment I woke up, I was shivering badly. I looked at my large orangish hands, and the filaments running between my fingers. I am taking in more water than my gills can process! My heart is practically a drum inside my chest! Perhaps the Divine Coral did listen to me. But these recurring dreams mean something, don’t they?? All I remember are fragments…being trapped in a limited body and longing for…freedom. Damn! Where the hell am I?! What happened to me?! I can’t remember anything. All I remember is that I was being chased by that vicious Deepfin terror! It screamed…and I was caught in it’s chilling scream. My whole body was paralyzed…and…Oh crap. Where’s my blaster?! Where is it! Good Coral… Where exactly am I?! Is this…made from shellwood? Such a strange, oval-shaped prison cell…and the front end is opening. Someone’s here to visit me…

Sometimes life is stranger than fiction…but not these stories. These stories are literally fiction.
