When you think of Instagram, do you think of it as a lead magnet to generate sales? Or a picture-sharing platform for selfies and your cat?

If you think it's the second thing, I don't blame you; I felt that, too, until I stumbled across Instagram's search algorithm and studied how it works. Of course, you can still use it to post selfies of your cat, but the point is optimizing your profile. If you've ever used LinkedIn, you know it is a powerful networking platform. The networking process works by sending and accepting invitations from your imported contacts or other members.

Personally, I've tried LinkedIn in the past, and personally, it requires an initial investment of time to set up and build connections. But I can't deny the benefits of being well connected with another like mind individual. Although LinkedIn is a good networking platform, Instagram can be used the same way with a few simple techniques added to your Bio without all the wait time and tedious complications. (No offense LinkedIn)

Key Objectives

  • Optimizing your name
  • State your niche
  • Add your call to action

The Bio is the first thing people see before they scroll down to your feed. Therefore, when crafting your social media bio, you must first understand its importance. Your Bio serves as a first impression; it gives people a reason to believe your account is a perfect fit for them or if you have the solution to their problems. I will break down the essential components of an optimized Bio, starting with the name section.

Optimizing Your Name

The name section of your Bio needs to be optimized because this portion is searchable. If you put your keywords in that section, your name may appear in that search. If you just put your name in this section, you are missing an opportunity because people don't know who you are and probably aren't searching for you. No offense

So try adding keywords like Content creatorAffiliate marketerBusiness coach, or whatever you do attach to your name. This change will increase the chances of people finding you on a search.

State your Niche

On your Bio, below your keyword combined name should be your niche statement. This section is important because it states who you help, how you help, and what the person could expect from engaging with you.  When creating your niche statement, try focusing on your target audience. This gives you a clear idea of how to express your brand or service best. You should explain this in one statement.

You may have noticed that Digital Creator tag. Instagram allows you to switch to a professional account for those unaware. A professional account gives you the tools to gain insight into your followers. It is pretty self-explanatory. I recommend switching to a professional account.

Add your Call to Action

Lastly and more importantly is your call to action. Chances are, if you have a brand or service, you have a link attached to your Bio offering resources. this alone is not enough to convert users to your Link. You need a good call to action to direct users to click on your Bio because, without an adequate explanation, they have no reason to follow through with the resources you offer.
