Are you trying to improve your CTR (Click Through Rate)?

Click-through-rate or CTR is the number of times your CTA (call-to-action) gets clicked, divided by the number of visitors you have on that specific webpage.

A good CTR is one of the major indicators in boosting your profit and determining how successful your digital marketing efforts are. Successful marketers know this very well. So they implement their best marketing tactics to ensure that their CTR sees a quick improvement.

One of the most effective tactics used by them to improve their CTR is by securing a top position in Google SERPs.

If you’re wondering how a top position in Google SERPs is related to an increase in your CTR, let me explain. Positioning your website in the top search results can be a game-changer for you when you’re trying to boost your CTR.

It has been proved that the pages ranking on the first page of Google get 30% of all the clicks. And if you can be one of the top fives, your chance of getting clicked increases even more. Studies show that the top 5 search results on Google account for 67% of the total clicks.

But to position yourself in the top search results, you need to have a proper marketing strategy. So let's look at some of the tactics that have shown proven results in increasing my CTR.

1. Use Long-tail Keywords

Have you tried ranking for long-tail keywords?

If you want to see your website in the top search results, try using long-tail keywords as part of your content marketing strategy.

Long-tail keywords are keyword phrases that usually consist of 3 or more words and are more specific to what people are looking for. These keywords are also highly descriptive, which makes them more likely to match the search intent of the users.

If you make a quick observation, you’ll notice that 54.31% of search queries contain 3 or more words in them. And since these keywords are so specific, the chances of them appearing in search results increases as compared to the standalone broader keywords.

When people see that the post in the search result matches their search intent, they are more likely to click on it because they know that the post will contain the information they are looking for.

This means that ranking for long-tail keywords will not only help you get more traffic but can improve your CTR as well.

2. Use Rich Snippets

I am adding two different screenshots here for the same search query. Now take a look at them and tell me which one you would like to click on.

Option No. 1

Option No. 2

Did I just hear you saying Option No. 2? But why do you like the second option better? You like it better because the second website has been optimized for rich snippets.

Now, what are rich snippets?

Rich snippets are nothing but the extra information that you have in the second option like the image, star ratings, preparation time, etc.,

It helps search engines understand what the website contains and why it is relevant for the users. And based on that understanding, search engines make them appear on search results.

But that’s not the only reason why you should optimize your website for it. This additional information makes your website stand out. So it’s a great way to catch eyeballs and entice them to click on your site.

3. Leverage Social Proof

In order to make a purchase, your users need to click on your CTA. But did you know that they go through a lot of research before they really click on it? After all, they’re spending their money to buy the product.

Buyers want social proof to know that they are buying the right product for themselves. This social proof can come in the form of ratings, reviews, UGC(user-generated content), etc.

The reason why social proof works so well is that they are not the sales copy that the company writes.

Instead, these are created by real users who are willing to share their experiences with the product or services. So they aren’t promotional at all. This not just builds trust and eases the worried minds of the users but also helps them make a decision.

According to PushEngage, 90% of shoppers reported that UGC such as reviews influenced their decision to purchase more than any other form of advertising. Similarly, TrustPulse reveals that 83% of people trust reviews over advertising, and 90% of users need less than 10 reviews to form an opinion about a business.

This means you can instantly increase your CTR by adding a few social proofs to your website. It has already been a very popular tactic for marketers to improve their CTR, and you, too, should definitely give it a try.

4. Optimize your Website Speed

One of the major turn-offs for users that can chase them away from your website without taking action is your website speed. People hate slow websites and if your website takes longer than 3 seconds to load chances are that they will exit it and never return again.

This will negatively affect your CTR. If you don’t want that to happen, optimize your website for speed now. It can instantly improve your CTR and boost your conversions too.

So these are some of the tips to try when looking for ways to improve your CTR. The good news is that in the process of improving your CTR, you’ll also end up boosting your search results.
