How to get high-quality traffic to your new tech startup's website. We compiled a list of over 500 free listings useful for tech startups. We wanted to build a community with tech people who could create their products on their own. These people hate ads, and that was a challenge. We achieved this without spending any money on ads.

How to Get High-Quality Traffic to Your New Tech Startup's Website

When I made the switch from law and edtech to a tech startup, I knew that I was in for a big change. And boy, was I right! Almost everything was different, from the product to the audience. In this article, I want to share with you how we built a community of software developers and indie makers with MarsX, one of the products I work with.

Finding Our Target Audience

So, when I joined MarsX, we were still trying to figure out our target audience and what our product was all about. At the time, we thought our product was perfect for startups seeking to build their MVPs quickly and inexpensively. To draw attention to our product, we organized many live events in an interview format with prominent figures from the startup world, such as founders, VC fund representatives, and others.

Thanks to Ann, who did all the work, we had many partners and excellent communication with incubators, as well as some perks. However, we eventually realized that we had taken the wrong approach. We had spent almost nine months pursuing this strategy, only to discover that our audience was not startups, but developers instead.


Changing Course and Focusing on Software Developers and Indie Makers

We immediately changed course and focused on software developers and indie makers. We wanted to build a community with tech people who could create their products on their own. One thing we quickly realized was that we couldn't spend any money on ads. These people hate ads, and that was a challenge.

We came up with a lot of ideas, and we tried some of them with good results. Here are a few:

  1. Find tons of listings where we list MarsX as a dev tool with AI features
  2. Create a lot of useful content for developers
  3. Show up our community cases how they use MarsX and why
  4. Use some influencers' opinionsTry to be on each platform where our audience is talking

We had a lot of other ideas, but these were the ones we tried and had some good results with.

Getting High-Quality Traffic with Listings

One of the things we did was create a list of high-quality free resources. We searched for new platforms that had their own listings of AI development tools, no-code platforms, low-code platforms, IDEs, and more. We found these listings on Twitter, Product Hunt, and other resources, and listed them.

After months of hard work, we compiled a list of over 500 free listings useful for tech startups. I know that many listings are created every day, and the sooner you find them, the more profit you'll gain. That's why we want to share our list with you.

While 98% of these listings may not be very helpful, the remaining 2% will provide you with your first users. For example, we were able to get a few thousand subscribers thanks to alternativeto.netfutureailab.com, futuretools.link, futurepedia.io, and supertools.therundown.ai.

Results

Currently, our waitlist has over 10,000 subscribers, with more than a thousand on our Discord channel and dozens of contributors on MarsX.

It took us:

  • 52 weeks to reach 1,000 subscribers
  • 4 weeks to reach 2,000 subscribers
  • 3 weeks to reach 10,000 subscribers

Our product has created a strong community of software developers and indie makers who trust us and benefit from our platform. We receive hundreds of messages in Discord from contributors and microapp builders every day. We achieved this without spending any money on ads, instead focusing on providing value to our audience and building a community around our product.

At this place chart almost fall down. But it was saved by less number of upcoming waiters next days

In conclusion, building a community of software developers and indie makers with MarsX was challenging but rewarding. We had to change direction and focus on our target audience, get creative with our marketing strategies, and prioritize providing value to our community.
