Content strategy can be a pain in the ass. Instead of wasting your time β€” we'll create your strategy in 9 steps β€” 1 minute for each step. Here's how you find your secret sauce: Your why, your end goal, research, community, KPIs and your fair advantage. Your background, your background and your business background are important - but it's so important - it deserves a separate tweet. Your secret sauce is what makes you different from your competitors. You don't need to post breakthrough content every time. Sometimes, doing just better than your competitors is enough.

I’ve got to be honest with you: Content strategy can be a pain in the ass. So, instead of wasting your time β€” we're gonna keep it brief:

We'll create your strategy in 9 steps β€” 1 minute for each step:

  1. Your why ❓
  2. End goal 🎯
  3. Research πŸ”¬
  4. Community πŸ’¬
  5. Secret sauce 🀫
  6. Unfair advantage πŸ’ͺ
  7. Content network πŸ“ž
  8. Metrics and KPIs πŸ“Š
  9. Lead magnet 🧲

Let's dive in:

1. Your why ❓

Imagine you already have a successful blog. What does it look like? What kind of value does it provide? In short: WHY are you writing it? Here's an example:

The why behind my blog is to give solopreneurs actionable advice on how to formulate their brand story.

A clear why will help you in later stages. Actually - it'll help you in just a second.

2. End goal 🎯

Ultimately, I aim to create so much value for my readers they will know exactly who to contact to help their brands use the power of storytelling. This is the end goal for me. Why is this important?

If you want to fall in love with the content creation process, the end goal has to spark excitement inside you. My vision makes me excited every time I hit "publish." Besides - content takes time. If you're investing a lot in it, it should be something you like.

3. Research
πŸ”¬

You don't need to post breakthrough content every time. Sometimes, doing just better than your competitors is enough. And that's why you should spend a lot of time on research. You know how to use Google - but I still have a tip for you:

First, look outside of your direct scope of competitors. There's probably a creator out there that uses similar language and tone as you - but talking about entirely different things.

4. Community

πŸ’¬

2 questions here:

β€’ Who are you creating for? β€’ Where will you find them?

One thing to avoid while answering the 1st one:

Don't create a so-called "persona," trying to come up with every bit of detail about your potential reader. If the fact your reader goes swimming 3x a week doesn't concern your content - ditch it.

5. Secret sauce 🀫

Harsh truth: I'm 99% sure there are a big handful of other blogs like the one you'd like to create. But 1 thing NO ONE can imitate is your secret sauce ✨ This is what makes you different from your competitors. Now...

You don't have to know what it is now. Once people start engaging with your content, you'll figure it out. But remember- to gain traction, you must find your secret sauce.

6. Unfair advantage πŸ’ͺ

This is 1 of the ingredients of your secret sauce. But it's so important - it deserves a separate tweet. Here's how you find it:

What about:

  • You
  • Your style
  • Your business
  • Your background gives you an advantage? Again - no need to know it now. But here's 1 thing you SHOULD know:

7. Content network πŸ“ž

Once you start building your business online - take care of those relationships. If you happen to meet a bigger creator willing to give a boost to your work - you broke the bank.

8. Metrics and KPIs πŸ“Š

From day 1, you have to:

  • Measure the success of your content

  • Define what success even means for you.

9. Lead magnet 🧲

What kind of value can you give to turn a random reader into a regular? Think of some downloadable you can give away to:

  • Build your email list
  • Grow your online audience
  • Encourage people to share
