In this article, I explained my experience interviewing a Product Marketing Manager and his thoughts on professional growth. Vincent Xu Product Marketing Manager Google In this interview, Vincent talked about his career journey, shared his thoughts on product marketing, how he works and what makes doing Product Marketing at Google interesting. What skills would you say contributed to your growth as a Product Marketing Manager? Ans: Number one is having a strategic mindset. In marketing, a lot of times, people tend to start getting very execution by focusing on how you execute a campaign and what the offers are. In contrast, a considerable focus should be starting at a higher level by understanding your core strategy, your company strategy, how you think about customer acquisition, what are the key markets and using a top-down approach. "Having a strategic mindset and strategy setting and eventually getting into the execution and tactical pieces." Being able to see things from a C-level executive and identify what interests the C-level executive. “If you imagine like a CMO or CEO looking at a plan, they don't have the time to get into every single detail. What they care about is a larger picture. Like: What is the overall strategy? What are the high-level impacts you want to make? What are the top two or three items they should know about a particular marketing campaign?” Thinking from that level is very helpful as it helps you articulate your thoughts well, have a clearer picture and communicate effectively. What are some of the technologies that will change the future of Product Marketing? Ans: Probably 5G because having a superior network is the foundational infrastructure to using AI, VR, or cloud services. The superior network to leverage these technologies is unlocked by the 5G network. "5G just launched globally, it's a big step up from 5G, and that will allow things like AI, VR or cloud to become more popularised and more ubiquitous." What does a typical day as a Product Marketing Manager for you look like? Ans: Vincent does different things daily, which cuts across research and insights, stakeholder management, and creative development. Research and insights are key because it helps him to know his customers. After all, as a Product Marketing Manager, if you don’t understand your customer and know what's going on, there's no way you can make an impact or run a successful campaign or maximize what you can do. Cross-functional stakeholder management, because at Google, you are working with so many different teams, such as the marketing teams on the global, regional and local levels. You also get to work with product management, business development and sales teams. “Being able to really understand each team's road map is really going to feed into what I can drive in marketing, and then the third piece is execution like creative development, talking with partners, getting the execution pieces together and making sure all the details are in place to maximize impact and make sure your execution goes well” How do I position myself for a Product Marketing career at Google? Ans: Google marketing is very broad, and there's nothing specific because everyone's working on different things. Strategic problem solving and communications are the major skills required to land a role at Google, and you can develop this in many different ways by working in investment banking or consulting. Being able to demonstrate problem-solving, setting the right strategy, and stakeholder management makes you a great fit for a Product Marketing role at Google. "Being able to work with people, manage timelines, manage projects, get alignment across different stakeholders. I think those are the two sorts of skills that are pretty critical for a role at Google." What do you enjoy most about doing Product Marketing at Google? Ans: Learning something new because I have a big area I can look after. "I'm learning something new, like one day, I might be working on a 5G campaign in Korea and then the next day I am working on an entry-level smartphone campaign in India." "The depth and width of the types of people I work with, the different things I've learned, the different country dynamics that I get to deep dive into, I think that's really exciting." Constantly learning day in and day out stood out as what makes it interesting to do Product Marketing at Google. What departments do you collaborate with most and why? Ans: Business development because a lot of what I do is like working with partners, working with external partners like telecommunication carriers in other parts of the world. To work with partners, Vincent relies on and works very closely with the business development teams. What are some of the challenges you face as a Product Marketing Manager, and how did you overcome them? Ans: How we properly align with our partner goals because Google might have different goals from our external partners. Aligning the company's vision to our partner's vision. “I think taking a very empathy-driven approach is super important. So really understanding What are the top priorities and KPIs of the other company? What have they done in the past? What are their current projects like? only by truly understanding other people's perspectives and where they are coming from can you be able to create a plan that is going to work for both sides and a plan that is going to maximize impact.” The problem is aligning a partner's goal with company interest and using an empathy-driven approach has been proven to help Vincent solve this problem. What are your top 3 destinations to learn about Product Marketing? Ans: Product marketing alliance, talking to people and reading blogs just by randomly searching Google to see what people have to say and fact-checking the article. “Product Marketing Alliance has like a very big repository of resources, and that's number one, number two, I think just talking to people because there's always going to be people with more experience than you so just like grabbing their time and picking their brains and like learning from their expertise is helpful in itself." Joining a community like Product Marketing Alliance, and leveraging your networks and mentors at your company is a great way to start. What advice would you give to someone wanting to transition to Product Marketing? Ans:  "I think just to like know what you are getting yourself into, do everything you can to find out more about what product  marketing entails and just go beyond the surface." Reading about what product marketing does is not enough, but you should try to apply the learning to the specific needs of the company you want to work for; an example is doing product marketing at Google versus Procter and Gamble. "Understanding broadly what product marketing entails but also really understanding the nuances and all the differences between the company that you are looking at. One company might value strategy a lot more than another company, and other companies might value hitting KPIs and sales numbers a lot more than a third company. " "You have to figure out where your strengths and your weaknesses lie and how you want to go from there" Branching out into Product Marketing after the PMA Scholars Program. Ans: Vincent shared the differences in the structure of teams and responsibilities between startups and established companies. While Startups allow working on different things, wearing different hats and offer more growth opportunities, the established company equally offers mentorship opportunities, a process you can learn from and more standardized ways of doing things.** Lastly, he advised talking to people who have worked with startups and those who have worked with established companies to align and find risk appetite and long-term plans. More importantly, it's good to identify where you can learn best as a significant consideration.

It is through collecting, processing, and analyzing huge chunks of data that we’ve built most of our modern-day businesses. However, the legacy systems of database management have become outdated. Inery Blockchain 1. Hi Vincent! Thank you for joining us today. Could you tell a little about yourself and how you ventured into the blockchain space? Hi! Thank you for inviting me. Well, I have to say I have a pretty unconventional career path. I started off my professional career as a soldier in the German army. After my stint in the army, I got fascinated with the world of trading and finance. The emerging decentralized finance industry really caught my attention and I ventured into cryptocurrency trading back in 2017. Soon enough, I was able to build a community of freelance crypto traders and I also gained experience in wealth management working with businesses and private individuals. While doing all this, Inery’s vision to decentralize the data industry caught my attention and I joined on board as the business development manager. So here we are. 2. It is popularly said that data is the new oil. Do you agree? How do you think data is shaping the world around us? Yes! I do agree. Data is the very backbone of the modern world. It is absolutely essential for today’s innovations, developments, research, and studies. Almost all internet-based businesses are data-driven and would not have been remotely successful without collecting and processing tons of user data. Data allows us to study and analyze customer behaviors and patterns and, in turn, aids in the creation of products and services that suit them best. Even future technologies like AI, Machine Learning, AR, VR, and IoT are heavily dependent on data. Long story short, user data is extremely important for modern-day developments and we cannot do away with it. 3. With users being exploited for their data by tech giants, concerns about data security and privacy have been voiced across the globe. What do you think of the current state and ethics of the data industry? Well, we’ve just spoken about the importance of data so it is no surprise that tech giants went out of their way to collect and process as much data as possible. The underwhelming aspect of this whole ordeal is that users lost their privacy and control over their own data. User data has been collected and stored without their consent for decades now.  Moreover, the centralized data storages solutions used by these companies are quite vulnerable to cyber-attacks. There have been numerous instances of data thefts and scams that left private user data exposed. So the growing concerns about data security are justified and the data industry is ripe for a paradigm shift. 4. Inery envisions democratizing the data industry. How do you achieve this and what impact could it have on the industry as a whole? Inery is the world’s first-ever fully decentralized database that is designed to eliminate centralized authority and single-point failures in the data industry. Tasks are central to people’s lives and more support is needed for complex tasks in search settings. Some limited support for these tasks already exists in search engines, but copilots will expand the task frontier to make more tasks actionable and address the “last mile” in search interaction: task completion [58]. Moving forward, search providers should invest in “better together” experiences that utilize copilots plus traditional search, make these joint experiences more seamless for searchers, and add more support for their use in practice, e.g., help people to quickly understand copilot capabilities and potential and/or recommend the best modality for the current task or task stage. This includes experiences where both modalities are offered separately and can be selected by searchers and those where there is unification and the selection happens automatically based on the query and the conversation context. The foundation models that power copilots have other search-related applications, e.g., for generating and applying intent taxonomies [43] or for evaluation [19]. We must retain a continued focus on human-AI cooperation, where searchers stay in control while the degree of system support increases as needed [44], and on AI safety. Searchers need to be able to trust copilots in general but also be able to verify their answers with minimal effort. Overall, the future is bright for IR, and AI research in general, with the advent of generative AI and the copilots that build upon it. Copilots will help augment and empower searchers in their information seeking journeys. The Crash That Brought the Shadow to the Light. On the morning of July 5, 2017, a gray Toyota Camry turned into the cul-de-sac of a neighborhood in Bangkok in a subdivision on the western edge of the city. A driver makes a miscalculation on a 180-degree turn and accidentally causes a collision with a front gate on a model home and real estate office. The driver exits the vehicle obviously upset about the event and needs to speak with the owner of the model house about the accident. After a significant time elapsed, Alexander Caze surfaced from his home to discuss the collision at the front gate of his home. As Alexander Caze made his way to have the conversation with the person in the vehicle, the FBI stormed the property arresting Alexander Caze aka “Alpha02” aka “Admin online” the owner of the Dark Web marketplace AlphaBay. Riches to Wretchedness. Alexander Cazes was just 25 and the CEO of EBX Technologies, a company that offered website creation services for businesses. Or at least that is what Alexandre Cazes said when someone asked about his occupation. According to Cazes’s father, Alexandre was a computer genius who started his own web design business at 17, had a high IQ, AND specialized in everything from web development to encryption services. While still a teenager, Cazes was believed to have started his first company, EBX Technologies, selling computers and helping small businesses set up their websites. His IT presence was clear to see; authorities traced Alexandre as far back as 2008, posting advice on a tech forum on how to remove a virus from a digital photo. Cazes grew up near Montreal and his family said he was a genius. In the shadows, Alexandre was the alleged mastermind of AlphaBay. According to publicly available information on AlphaBay prior to its takedown, one AlphaBay staff member claimed that it serviced over 200,000 users and 40,000 vendors. Around the time of the takedown, there were over 250,000 listings for illegal drugs and toxic chemicals on AlphaBay, and over 100,000 listings for stolen and fraudulent identification documents and access devices, counterfeit goods, malware and other computer hacking tools, firearms, and fraudulent services. Comparatively, the Silk Road dark web marketplace, which was seized by law enforcement in November 2013, had reportedly approximately 14,000 listings for illicit goods and services at the time of seizure and was the largest dark web marketplace at the time. . All Wrongdoing can be Traced to an Excessive Attachment to Material Wealth Alexander Cazes biggest vulnerability turned out to be his penchant for bragging about his newly acquired wealth and status. Alexandre Cazes claimed his worth was about $23 million US, including $12.5 million in properties and vehicles, and the rest in cash and cryptocurrencies. Cazes's assets seized by the U.S. government included $6.6 million Cdn in Bitcoin, $2.4 million in Ethereum, $622,000 in Monero, and $980,512 in Zcash. He had at least 11 bank accounts and cryptocurrency exchange accounts registered in his name or his wife's name in Thailand, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Beyond cash, Cazes had a taste for luxury vehicles, including a 2013 Lamborghini Aventador, a Porsche Panamera, a Mini Cooper, and a BMW motorcycle. He had three properties in Bangkok, and a vacation property in Phuket, Thailand. Subtle Clues That Were Not So Subtle. Alexandre Cazes lived a seemingly quiet life for more than a year with his Thai girlfriend in a middle-class neighborhood on the outskirts of Bangkok, but the flashy cars he drove stood out. All in an area where people drive pickup trucks and children tool around on plastic tricycles, and there was the nearly $1 million, metallic gray Lamborghini, a Porsche, and then the Mini Cooper for his girlfriend. Nothing except expensive cars, which were completely out of place in the neighborhood where homes cost less than $120,000. The neighbors thought Alexandre Cazes worked in the hotel business. neighbor, who asked not to be named because the case involves crime, said Cazes rarely left the house before noon. Alexadre’s activity with AlphBay led to a police operation shutdown called “Bayonet”, which involved authorities in six countries including the FBI, the Dutch National Police, and the Royal Thai Police. AlphaBay’s Simple Mistakes From a Brilliant Mind. Alexandre Cazes made mistakes and one was with his personal email. Once new users joined the forums and entered their private email accounts, they were greeted with an email directly from AlphaBay welcoming them to the forums. The email address “Pimp_Alex_91@hotmail.com” was included in the header information of the AlphaBay welcome email. Searches for that email led investigators to forum posts by accounts with the same online handle Cazes used on AlphaBay, Alpha02. They eventually tracked down Cazes’ full name and LinkedIn account, which listed him as affiliated with EBX Technology, a company that investigators suspected was a front for AlphaBay. Alexandre Cazes had registered a PayPal account tied to bank accounts held in his name as well as the EBX Technologies business name using the "Pimp_Alex_91@hotmail.com" email account. Also, in 2008 a post to a French-language online tech forum "www.commentcamarche.com" by user "Alpha02" included the name "Alexandre Cazes" and the Hotmail address. The administrator of AlphaBay, notably, had used the username "Alpha02" before changing it to "Admin." To Encrypt or Not to Encrypt…That Is the Question. When the police, aided by the FBI and DEA, raided Alexandre Cazes's home, they said he was using a PC that was logged into AlphaBay as "Admin." The laptop was also found opened and unencrypted - revealing that Alexandre Cazes had been communicating with an AlphaBay data center, revealing the day-to-day operations as well as with AlphaBay users, and numerous passwords to AlphaBay servers and other infrastructure. A Tragic End And a Snake in the Grass. Alexandre Cazes was being held in a cell at Bangkok's Narcotics Suppression Bureau and, just hours before he was due to meet prosecutors for talks over his extradition to the US, was found dead of an apparent suicide. It leverages a concatenated information channel masking strategy to address the limitations posed by cube masking and enhances the capability to capture continuous and long-term motion compared to asymmetric masking. Our experimental results demonstrate superior performance in comparison to state-of-the-art methods across both video segmentation and action recognition tasks. One distinctive feature of our training pipeline is the propagation of reconstruction information from the initial frame throughout the entire video sequence. This theoretically unlimited propagation showcases CatMAE’s potential to learn long-term video representations. This model eschews positional embeddings and instead employs bi-directional ALiBi slopes to capture positional information. By training a series of embedding models with this innovative architecture on the Web document corpus C4 and subsequently fine-tuning them, we have enabled the encoding of the semantics of both short and long textual values into meaningful vector representations. This effort has produced a new suite of open-source embedding models capable of encoding texts containing up to 8192 tokens. These embeddings signify a 16x increase in the maximum sequence length compared to leading open-source embedding models. Additionally, our model suite exhibits competitive performance on the MTEB benchmark.
