This isn’t just unnecessary, it’s . In a world of endless distractions, being able to focus on a single task for an extended period is a seriously valuable skill. Humans can only focus on one thing at a time counter-productive Deep work is becoming increasingly hard in our distraction filled economy, yet also becoming increasingly important and rare. The few who can spend their days on deep work will become extremely marketable and successful. — Cal Newport in “ ” Deep Work One monitor means my work — and only my work — is displayed front and center. Distractions stay out of sight, and thus, out of mind. Does this look like a place to focus on a task? Two of the most valuable tasks we do on a daily basis require focusing on a single application for extended periods: . Both reading and writing benefit from the focus that comes from being the only thing on the screen. A book with a moving twitter feed in the margin would be a disaster. The Large Display Paradox Just use a single reasonably-sized monitor Even with handy window management software, multiple monitors present a problem: If I have two monitors, the content isn’t directly in front of me. I have to turn my head either right or left (particularly annoying when walking on a treadmill desk, as I often do — see pic below). I could place one monitor directly in front of me, but then the second monitor is even farther to the side — making it clearly a second-class citizen. This again leads to moving whatever I’m working on to the middle screen. As Barry Schwartz explores in “ ”, decision fatigue is a real problem. Sometimes, more is less. Virtual Desktops For the Win Both Mac and Windows support virtual desktops now. On my Mac, I can 3 finger swipe to quickly switch between multiple virtual desktops. This takes less than a second and it doesn’t require me to turn my head and refocus my eyes on content in a different spot. But I don’t waste cycles on this arrangement either. The far left virtual desktop is always my browser, the one to the right is my editor. . As a side note, if you’re on a Mac, be sure to disable auto rearrange: Same Workflow When Remote I often work remote in coffee houses, libraries, public parks, outside on the deck, and on planes. It’s like having an unlimited set of virtual monitors, that are always in the same position, wherever I work. My Preferred Monitor for Getting Things Done I prefer using a single 24" 4K. Why 24"? Because if you want to get actual work done, bigger isn’t necessarily better. 24" is large enough to display a single application full-screen. And it’s large enough to display two apps side-by-side in the rare instances that I truly need to see two things (I use on Mac and simply hit Win+arrow on Windows). However, 24" is small enough that you can maximize all applications without needing to move your head or eyes much to see the screen edges. Remember, maximize all the things. And prices are finally reasonable, so if you don’t own a high DPI display yet, buy one. And a 24" 4K has more dots per inch than larger 4K screens, so it’s crisper. Any MacBook Pro built in the last few years can push a 4K display at 60hz over DisplayPort. Many recent Windows laptops can do so as well. So why do so many workers demand multiple monitors? Debris in space results from human-made objects that have exploded, collided, or broken apart in-orbit. Depending on its volume and size, debris traveling at high velocities in space can cause significant damage. Space debris may potentially disable outbound or inbound satellites, impact infrastructure such as that of the International Space Station - ISS, and strike astronauts during their walks. As of February 2020, reported 34,000 objects larger than 10 cm currently orbiting the Earth and more than 500 breakups, explosions, and collisions in low Earth orbit. Low Earth orbit or by the National Aeronautics Space Station - NASA as the region of space within 2,000km of Earth's surface. [This] doesn’t mean that there are malicious... just means that trustworthiness [among] parties is kind of low.” In this sense, where trust among parties is a concern or just complex to build, decentralized blockchain-ledgers may provide-relief with an additional level of applications: smart contracts. Smart contracts are electronic transactions that execute as programmed on blockchain networks such as Ethereum. If the necessary conditions are met, performance and enforcement are guaranteed. Wei-Kocsis and fellow researcher Praveen Fernando, . expand their work on smart contracts “In our proposed networking solution, we exploit Ethereum blockchain and impose security functionalities automatically via smart contracts.” Both researchers claim to have submitted a provisional patent about these technologies as well (USA Parent provisional 62/771,230,2018). A common source of data distributed across the blockchain network therefore builds-in incentives for multiple parties to trust in advance these self-enforcing smart contracts. These computable contracts are programmed according to specific objectives. Currently, there is not a single source of truth. There are heterogeneous points of data about individual satellites and space debris, which represents a cumbersome technical and policy issue. As part of my research, I took a look at the fascinating and in-depth perspectives about the nuances of smart contracts from a contract law perspective. In , Professors Kevin Werbach and Nicolas Cornell explain: Contracts ExMachina “The critical distinction between smart contracts and other forms of electronic agreements is enforcement. Once the computers determine that the requisite state has been achieved, they automatically perform data-oriented or computable contracts…The evolution from electronic, to data-oriented, to computable contracts embodies a trend toward greater machine autonomy. As computers can increasingly replace humans in negotiating, forming, performing, and enforcing contracts, contracts can increasingly operate with the speed and consistency of machines…Yet by switching from the ex post adjudication of contract to the ex ante reduction of agreements to software code, smart contracts will in some cases merely shift problems rather than eliminate them…Even if the smart contract operates exactly as designed, it may produce suboptimal results, either in the minds of one or both parties, or as a matter of economic efficiency, because it is fixed. Sometimes, for example, nonperformance is the desirable outcome. Much has been made of the idea of efficient breach…” Increased machine autonomy may indeed manage and address space debris. Decisions about space debris may be executed automatically instead of decisions by exceptions between institutions and across networks. This, however, raises complex questions from a contract law perspective about future scenarios. Speaking of futures ahead, she commented the following: private-public alliances “I believe the future…of computing…only [in] my opinion, is cooperative computing…people need [to] claim ownership of their data, try to make the value of their data…and their computing intelligence… The future of computing…is not only [for] NASA deep space…” We don’t have to continue down an inevitable vortex of colossal space junkyards. We can take a look at different possibilities offered by emerging technologies like blockchain to solve a decades-long problem that may  only get worse if left unattended. Artificial Intelligence Algorithm For CCTV in Indian Transportation Another cargo mover service named Spoton Logistics is looking forward to the use of Artificial intelligence in their CCTV installation service. Spoton Logistics is currently implementing an algorithm that can detect several passengers at a time, who are with and without masks at the docking and undocking location. Meanwhile, the CEO and the Managing Director of Spoton Logistics, Abhik Mitra is looking forward to representing visual analysis through algorithms that will have access to over 300 locations. Bearing other things in mind, Spoton Logistics is also focused on the use of other proactive measures like frequent use of hand sanitization with thermostat checking. However, they also mention the use of oximeters which is used specifically at the docking sites. This is because Spoton Logistics has made arrangements for deploying local area workers to these loading and unloading locations. Artificial Intelligence in Indian Railway Transportation Railway departments are also resorting to innovative protection measures as the count of passengers keeps increasing day by day. Bearing the risk factors, many railway departments are now choosing CCTV installation, specially equipped with algorithms of Artificial Intelligence. It will provide analysis on temperature detecting for everyone, detection of the mask, and minimum social distancing. Railway Departments have been consulting an IT firm called Vehant Technologies to make use of it. The path is narrow and the door is not wide. Eve is a game that is all about player interaction. Its about outsmarting and outplaying enemies. It is the most complex game of chess ever invented. It is like there are 20 thousand players who are each playing 20 games of chess against 10 people each all at the same time. This example is only scratching the surface when describing the complexity that is present in Eve Online. If you approach Eve as a theme park MMO like World of Warcraft, then it will suck. It will suck really bad. The levels and missions the game gives you have bad story lines, they are repetitive, and the actual game play and AI is pretty damn bad. There is a lot of work being done to improve this but those changes are still around the corner. PvE is not what Eve is actually about. Eve is like the ultimate PvP game of hyper chess 7000. However when most people start the do the tutorial (which sucks) and end up doing the boring missions it tells you to do. Then the players get bored cause these missions are boring. When they then go to low sec to try the PVP that Eve is famous for they usually die in a fire and run away, and never come back. Many people are not willing to deal with facing their own insignificance. However it is only by facing it that one can overcome it, and become truly powerful. This sounds like an exaggerated example but you will feel like Neo when he first wakes from the Matrix in the real world. Eve is totally different to 99% of other games. It does not baby you your make you feel good or try and look after your feelings. So you need to prepare yourself for a quest. You will be confused as hell for the first few weeks. You will be totally overwhelmed. Lots of things will seem stupid or boring or too hard. Push through this. You will learn a new way of thinking. You will learn to problem solve. You will start your path to be a ninja. You will die, and die again, and die again and again. This is normal. For weeks you will be a failure and a looser. This is all part of the path to finding mastery. Your goal is to become a master of one small area of the game. Once you have mastered that you move on and learn to master another area. You will never master every area. New Eden is too big, too complex. The first few weeks is learning to speak the language of Eve. Learning to think in risk and reward, and learning the basics of combat. During this time you will have heaps of amazing experiences. You are a little fish entering a deep dark ocean, and you want to learn to become a great white shark. But all around you are hungry fish that want to tear you apart. You need to be fast you need to be smart, you need to keep on moving. As soon as you undock your ship from a station you are a target. So don't fly what you can’t afford to lose. Ships in Eve are like ammunition. They explode, all the time, and you lose everything in it. So always try and have enough money to buy 3 or 4 replacements. Your goal for the first few weeks is to learn to avoid the many hunters while learning to feed and grow. In Eve we think of the player vs environment (PvE) gameplay like eating plants. Players who do PvE are herbivores. Players who do Player vs Player (PvP) are carnivores and predators. So to start off with you want to be a herbivore feed on the plants and build up your strength while you learn to skills to avoid hunters that are after you. Once you have learnt how to avoid hunters you can start to think like a hunter. Then you can start to practice hunting others. However, because blockchains have varying token standards and consensus mechanisms, this feat is (currently) only achievable via bridges. But when put in context, they highlight that perhaps, despite the widespread desire for an interoperable crypto ecosystem, bridges are not as widely utilized. Out of the $2.5 trillion of value in the crypto market, only about 0.01% is utilized across chains. This is an indication that not many crypto users are utilizing bridges. And according to Sher, CEO of Zecrey Labs (the team behind Kontos Protocol), a big part of this is down to the user experience. The solution, he says, lies in bridge abstraction. The ABCs of Bridging Crypto Assets The crypto space is not known for its user experience. Blockchain-based applications are typically more complicated to set up and use than regular apps, something that the average crypto bridge takes to the extreme. “The blockchain industry is often perceived as complex and difficult to navigate, especially for newcomers. Managing multiple wallets, handling private keys, and understanding gas fees can be daunting for users,” says Sher. It's not known exactly how many people use crypto bridges. What is known, however, is that for most users, the experience is anything but convenient. Crypto bridges tend to have unintuitive interfaces, with users often required to go through several steps to complete a bridge operation, which can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours and attract significant fees. At the same time, the bridging scene is itself fragmented. Many bridging protocols only support a limited set of assets and blockchain pairs. “This means that currently, there are numerous bridges for different blockchain pairs, each with its own protocols and interface. Thus, users are regularly forced to use multiple bridges to get their assets on the target chain,” says Sher. When someone wants to interact with a chain like Avalanche, they typically need to address two aspects: Gas fees: They need to bridge AVAX tokens to Avalanche to pay for transaction fees (gas) on the network.


Other assets: They may also want to bridge other assets, such as stablecoins like USDT, to use within the Avalanche ecosystem. What Is Bridge Abstraction? “The Bridge Abstraction Layer (BAL) is a structural design pattern that separates the abstraction (interface) from the implementation (underlying mechanics),” says Sher. “This decoupling allows for greater flexibility and independent development of both components.” Bridge abstraction builds on the concept of chain abstraction, where the aim is to hide the complexities of interacting with blockchains from the end user. When the user isn’t dealing with the specific details of underlying protocols, traditionally complex operations like cross-chain trading and asset transfer become straightforward. Abstraction essentially lets developers build cross-chain solutions without being tied to specific implementation details. According to Sher,  this translates to lesser involvement from the user during a bridging operation, as seen in Kontos’ design, which allows users to bridge across multiple chains via a single interface. Kontos is designed around the user’s intent. If someone intends to get tokens on a particular chain, they can do so using any assets they have on any chain(s). This is possible because the protocol lets users combine assets from various chains and move them to the target chain. It uses smart contracts and a network of participants to handle the complexities of gas estimation and payment behind the scenes. “Kontos' approach to gas abstraction represents a significant innovation in improving blockchain usability,” says Sher. ”By tackling this complex problem, Kontos is addressing one of the major pain points in blockchain interaction, potentially setting a new standard for user experience in the multi-chain ecosystem.” A New Standard for On-chain User Experience Bridge abstraction is a significant leap forward in simplifying interactions across blockchain networks.
