Does their culture match that of your vendor partners? Are there points in which the organizations you work with align? Who are the people working on the solutions, developing them? Is there any common ground where you can come together with your vendor partners to achieve business outcomes? What about with the people helping build the solution? The people who create and support your new tool will impact the solution itself. Don't underestimate the importance of company culture when considering an ITSM vendor. You've got to consider aspects of the organization you might not think will be factors. What are their employees like? Do their values match yours? The most successful partnerships are built with organizations emphasizing freedom, trust, and responsibility. An essential part of this selection process is seeking out those that are honest, straightforward, and willing to respond as needed when needed. What can they offer up, and how can they help you achieve the most critical elements of keeping service running to your organization. Sometimes, the most important thing that a vendor can tell you is that they can’t help you. That's called integrity and sticking to it. It takes leadership and grit for leadership within a vendor to tell you straight up that they can't serve you well or are unable to meet your needs in the manner that best fits your organization's needs. While not typical, some organizations will tell you if you're not a good fit for their product. One example of this might be when a vendor provides an enterprise solution when what you need is a solution more suited for a lesser mature solution. Your investment in such a solution is essential. They set you up for the future. Because it's such an important decision and can significantly impact your organization's future, look for vision and foresight in your partners. Likewise, are they committed to innovation – yours and theirs? Also, are they willing to help you grow in the future? Where you are today is not where you're going, nor is how you use the solution now the way you’ll use them in the future. Service management solutions are investments in an organization's future. Unfortunately, these technologies that power the help desk and ticket management systems are not a quick fix for long-term success. When these realities are thought through, stop! Your vendor shortlist must be the first step in the success of your organization's long-term future. Okay, point made. This is an important decision not to be taken lightly. Review your shortlist and ask each vendor how they plan to grow with you. What specific steps do they plan to take, and how might these actions impact your medium- and long-term outcomes. When you’ve asked each vendor this question, ask their respective customers the same question. While doing so, maintain your gaze on the road ahead. How is each solution positioned for future innovation? How is each vendor investing time and resources into expanding their software's capabilities to meet customer needs? Based on input from customers, you can quickly determine what the future shows. You can see how they are investing, where development strategy is, and where any potential areas of attention are needed, like strengthening their mobile offerings, enhancing asset management capabilities, or expanding overall ecosystems. One of the most important ways to analyze these and other areas of focus is by reviewing each vendor’s product roadmaps and Kanban boards – each should be easy to obtain if requested. These diagrams can help indicate whether an ITSM vendor is ready for a long-term commitment with your organization or if its plans are running one way now but changing in the near term. Bring vendors into strategy sessions Another step to consider is inviting representatives from that vendor to strategic meetings involving the business areas that their product will touch and affect. Doing so can help them align their product to your strategy in the most efficient manner possible. Doing so also may help you tap into their expertise for planning, preparing, and growing through and during the transition. You may also gain a competitive advantage, particularly if your vendor partners are part of critical decisions at the outset of the implementation. Keep conversations on the appropriate level as the decision requires. Build for the long term As noted above, vendor relationships – the good ones – are along for the long term. Unless the relationship is transactional (a company is selling a phone or paper, for example), you're entering into a long-term commitment of sorts. It's always better to keep an eye on the future, measuring energy, expense, and efficiency outcomes. Consistently changing vendors to save a bit here or there costs more in the long term and impacts quality, too. Long-term relationships with vendors also lead to trust and shared accountability. The vendor also benefits by securing product feedback, insight into how its solution works and responding to other customer and analyst requests. Understand the vendor's business Getting to know a vendor's business and their business model for profitability can help your leaders understand how best to part with the organization. Vendor management allows you to build a relationship with your suppliers and service providers to strengthen both businesses. Vendor management involves the back-and-forth of a successful relationship to benefit both the supplier and the buyer. The process should be structured to be a win-win for both sides. Communicate often The most important success factor of vendor management is to share information and priorities with them. Establish regular communications with leadership on both sides -- this ensures priorities are understood, met, and set new goals. Communication also creates and drives accountability and lets you monitor performance and milestones. Bear these points in mind as you shortlist vendors and other partners to more easily navigate the path to future solutions and find solutions to help you grow and meet your goals, strategy, and outcomes to serve the organization and navigate its success.

Choosing the Right ITSM Partner: Questions To Ask When Shortlisting Suppliers 

We at have been using HP Common Slot power supplies from 460W to 1400W for years. They are efficient, reliable and easy to integrate with servers from different manufacturers. If you have a bunch of old server cases piled up, use them to save about €500 to €600 on new systems. HOSTKEY Standard Common Slot power supplies first appeared around 2010 in the Proliant G6 and most other HP servers at the time. These mass-produced devices are extremely inexpensive on eBay/AliExpress (€20 to €50 each). As a rule, the power supply units are operational: cases of failure when switching them on are extremely rare. There are no problems with bulk shipments either: we buy more than 100 at a time. Common Slot power supplies are quiet: at low and medium load their noise is lost behind the noise of a normal computer. At full load, the small fan makes a characteristic loud squealing noise of 65 dB (however, it is not audible in a data center). The HP site contains little information on the specifications: there is no diagram or pinout available, but there is a suspiciously similar Murata Power Solution device from another vendor. On their website, we found the we needed, including detailed manuals for and power supplies. It absolutely refused to work with Chinese analogs, and the native PicoPSU didn't fit to the height and was plugged in via an adapter. The power supply doesn't fit very well, but it doesn't affect speed and usability. Why is this necessary? We save about €500 to €600 on new systems. This allows us to keep the cost of renting dedicated servers at market level, plus we don't throw away old cases with all the fans and backplanes, so as not to unnecessarily pollute the environment. Regarding reliability: The power supply usually fails the first time you turn it on. We have a special test rig with a category A 5A circuit breaker for this purpose. If the power supply turns on, it will continue to work for years. PSUs of this type in our data center with several thousand machines break down about once every six months, usually when upgrading the equipment. PicoPSUs in regular servers hardly ever fail. Let's try using power supplies in pairs and build a test rig for this on our server. Here the two power supplies with our adapter boards are connected in parallel. The boards are connected to each other with straight GPU extension cables. A pair of cables of 3 wires each provide a jumper for just 400 watts (at the limit). It is important that the connecting cables are of good quality: of the right cross-section and well crimped (we have just such cables). For greater reliability, 400W requires three cables with 3 wires each. The processors are each plugged into their own power supply. Does this really work? to be sure. We run Linpack on the server with both power supplies connected and take turns disconnecting them under load, then reconnecting them after a while. We ensure the voltage remains normal and the server does not reboot under stress test. The load according to the server is about 400W under stress test on the processors, so about 500W is flowing through the circuit. Check this video As you can see, the setup works: The cables and connectors do not heat up, and everything works as it should and without the server's native power supplies. Since the HP Common Slots are designed to work in pairs, they have all the necessary safeguards. Why use two PSUs? Many people think that redundancy is needed for fault tolerance: if one power supply breaks down while operating a server in a data center, the second one will keep it running. This opinion is partly correct, but there are other nuances. Often, when a power supply fails, a circuit breaker in the PDU or in the breaker box blows out (by short circuit or overload). If both units are plugged into the same PDU, redundancy will not help. Data centers are usually set up so that there are two non-overlapping power lines coming into the rack. They have different distribution cabinets, they go to different UPSs, and those UPSs are connected to different transformers and generators. This all gets switched with some delay, and the data center ensures that the power is always on one of the lines, but not both at the same time. It is essential that the server have two power supplies, or you must use a rack ATS, a fairly expensive device with a solid-state relay that can quickly and seamlessly switch between asynchronous phase inputs. Bottom line If you have empty server cases lying around, don't rush to throw them away: old hardware is not difficult to restore. Reanimating Old Server Cases with HP Common Slot Power Supplies

In 2019, 'pirate' IPTV supplier One Box TV found itself on the wrong end of a DISH Networks lawsuit. Filed in a Florida court, the complaint alleged that the IPTV supplier was transmitting DISH programming unlawfully via the Internet. After failing to put up a defense, One Box TV and its owner have now been ordered to pay $3.8 million in damages. There are many hundreds of entities and individuals involved in the provision, distribution and sale of unlicensed IPTV services worldwide, with the majority managing to avoid serious consequences – at least for now. But while most remain somewhat in the shadows, others make themselves more visible, sometimes following the decision to incorporate as an official entity. That may have been the case with One Box TV, LLC, a three-year-old Florida-registered company that made a business out of the sale of piracy-configured IPTV devices and subscriptions from its websites and a booth at a flea market. Following an investigation carried out by DISH Networks and NagraStar, in August 2019 the companies against One Box TV and sole manager Donna Fogle in a Florida court. According to the complaint, the company sold $19 per month IPTV subscriptions (described as ‘device codes’) offering unlicensed DISH programming alongside pre-configured Android-style boxes for around $275. filed a lawsuit The content offered by One Box TV was illegally obtained from DISH’s satellite communications and rebroadcast to the public for commercial advantage and personal financial gain, DISH alleged. This activity breached the Federal Communications Act (FCA) causing the broadcaster considerable financial damage, the complaint added. The case has been ‘progressing’ for months without input from the defendants so it’s no surprise that DISH and NagraStar moved for a default judgment. DISH informed the court that it should be entitled to significant statutory damages under various sections of the FCA ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 for each violation, with Section 605(e)(4) allowing the plaintiffs to seek damages for each piracy device distributed. Following One Box TV’s default, DISH and NagraStar obtained permission to conduct discovery among financial institutions associated with the IPTV seller to ascertain how many devices/device codes it had sold. According to DISH, the amount totaled at least 3,805 units, which could have put One Box TV on the hook for $38 million, even if the minimum statutory damages were awarded by the court. Instead, DISH requested a much lower amount of $1,000 per violation for a total of $3,805,000 in statutory damages. On top, the company sought a permanent injunction. The court was happy to oblige. “Having reviewed the record evidence, the Court concludes OneBox is liable for violating the Federal Communications Act,” District Judge James S. Moody writes in his order. “Dish has shown OneBox violated the Act at least 3,805 times, entitling Dish to the $3,805,000 it seeks in statutory damages. And Dish proved entitlement to a permanent injunction against OneBox by demonstrating irreparable harm and that there is no adequate remedy at law.” The injunction is comprehensive and forbids One Box TV, Donna Fogle, and/or anyone acting in concert with them from rebroadcasting DISH programming and/or offering subscriptions/device codes providing access to DISH’s content and communications. Whether the plaintiffs will ever see any of the $3.8m in damages remains an open question. Today, I watched an episode of "The Ben and Marc Show", where Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz discussed how Trump's victory could change everything for tech startups. Initially, I thought, "Politics isn't really my thing," but something caught my attention, so I decided to watch. And you know what? I didn't regret it for a second. They talked about how the last four years have been a real challenge for those in the tech industry. Constant pressure and unclear regulations have been stifling innovation. The crypto industry suffered particularly hard. Imagine this: some legally compliant companies were simply kicked out of the banking system! "It was a direct act of authoritarian violence."

To do this, they created an organization called Fair Shake—a political action committee (PAC) that funded campaigns for pro-technology candidates. Their efforts paid off: many of the candidates they supported won their elections. I really liked how they said, "Someone needs to stand up for IT and startups, and we're doing it." A beautiful example of democracy! Their optimistic outlook for the crypto industry is particularly encouraging. Although I personally don't use cryptocurrency much, I was always annoyed by how Telegram's crypto project was shut down. As an IT entrepreneur, I didn't like that at all. I wonder if the situation will change under Trump. Maybe government decisions will be reconsidered, and Pavel Durov will finally be able to implement what he planned. They also discussed artificial intelligence. Marc and Ben emphasized how important it is to support innovation in AI and not stifle it with excessive regulation. I myself am working on a startup in the AI field and see how quickly new technologies are taking over the world. Of course, they can be intimidating, and they mustn't fall into the wrong hands. But it's necessary to maintain a balance and allow them to develop, to trust the process, and act based on circumstances rather than preemptively banning everything. In Europe, where I am, some AI features appear later due to stricter regulations, and that's not the most pleasant trend. At the same time, I haven't heard of any tragic or truly frightening situations since the appearance of GPT-3.5. Moreover, they drew attention to energy and its connection to AI. Developing artificial intelligence requires enormous computational power, which means energy. They discussed the possibility of reviving nuclear energy as a clean and efficient source. An interesting thought. Perhaps in the future, this will help solve many problems. In fact, if the news is to be believed, this is already happening.
