Who is going to read your tech stories in the midst of this presidential election madness? That’s a legit question to ask. Diddy was able to steal the election show for a while. I felt bad writing a good story about the tech side of the whole Diddy arrest situation. The mainstream media was more about the number of lubricants than the platforms of presidential candidates, which was surreal. But, that’s the world we live in, like it or not. I mean, even if the aliens are to land out of the blue in November, we would be like: sorry, how about another time, we’re in the middle of something. So, what are we supposed to do? To write or not to write, is that the question? I don’t think so. Opt-Out Of Political Extremism With Creative Escapism I don’t know about you, but when I write my stories, I forget about all of my worries. If you can lose yourself to dance, then why shouldn’t you lose yourself in writing? Interesting things happen when you write. You lose the sense of time. You don’t listen to the news. Your phone is in “do not disturb” mode. What more could you possibly wish for? Again, I don’t think so because I stuck to facts and numbers. Truth be told, writing turned into walking on eggshells for that particular story. It felt quite differently when I wrote about Lex Fridman’s Roman Empire podcast episode and Elon Musk’s Terminus plans for Mars. When the present sucks, you have two options, or it’s better to say - directions. You can go back, like I did, to remember how great Asimov’s “Foundation” great and relevant still is after all these years. Or, you can step into the future and write about AI. That one felt great, too. So, when someone asks you, who you are going to vote for or support, you can reply with a question: what are you going to write about next? When this political circus leaves our cyber-town, isn’t it better to be left with meaningful tech stories or pointless posts? Better to Vote for Startups than Political Clowns HackerNoon’s Startups of the Year 2024 Awards are just around the corner. Some of these startups can really shake the ground. What are we going to get if we “turn onto politics,” for real? Just another status quo, don’t you think? Everybody wants to rule the world (Tears for Fears), but very few want to change it in a good way, unselfishly and progressively. If you’re asking me, it’s better to be a part of something that has the potential to start-up than end-up the world as we currently don’t like to know it. I’m totally fine if someone says there’s a blurred line between a writer and an entertainer. If tech stories create a bubble to keep you away from any kind of politics-related trouble, I consider it to be a creative victory. So, write, don’t fight because there won’t be winners, only losers in 2025 who allowed themselves to be dragged into this election mess. The only genuinely effective way to change the collective consciousness of humans, is to work on ourselves as individuals, to separate ourselves from everything we recognise to be inherently harmful, and to inspire the same in others.

Hey Hackers! Have you ever written an amazing, near-perfect article only for the views to not reflect your hard work? We know what that feels like, so here are some quick tips on how to promote your stories on social media. 1. It’s Okay to be Shameless You might feel awkward telling people to go check out your work at first, but once you continuously do it, that awkwardness will wash away. But beyond that, take it one step further. Don’t just promote your story on LinkedIn. Make sure to promote it on every social media that you have, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Don’t feel as if you’re bombarding people; instead, look at it as if you are covering all your bases. Because even if your story doesn’t get the views you think it deserves, at least you can’t say you didn’t try. 2. How to Curate the Perfect Post Okay, you want to blast your article into the four corners of the internet. But you can’t just post the link, hit “Submit Post”, and call it a day. You have to give it a little pizzazz. Here’s how to do that: Ensure your article has an eye-catching image: once you add your article’s link to the post, the feature image will also be visible. So, it has to be an attention-grabbing image.

With this research paper, we aim to present a methodology to generate pseudocode from a given agile user story of small functionalities so as to reduce the overall time spent on the industrial project. Pseudocode is a programming language agnostic representation of the steps involved in a computer program, which can be easily converted into any programming language. Leveraging the potential of Natural Language Processing, we want to simplify the development process in organizations that use the Agile Model of Software Development. We present a methodology to convert a problem described in the English language into pseudocode. This methodology divides the Text to Pseudocode conversion task into two stages or subtasks, each of which is treated like an individual machine translation task. Stage 1 is Text to Code Conversion and Stage 2 is Code to Pseudocode Conversion. We find that the CodeT5 model gives the best results in terms of BLEU score when trained separately on the two subtasks mentioned above. BLEU score is a metric that is used to measure the similarity between a machine-translated text and a set of reference translations. Agile is a software development approach based on iterative development, wherein tasks are divided into smaller iterations or sprints. In Agile project management tools such as Jira are used to document the user requirements in the form of epics or user stories. Developers need to understand these requirements and write code for the same. However, a significant amount of development time and efforts can be saved by automating the process of code/pseudo code generation, especially for simple or repetitive problems that have been solved before. The motivation of our research paper is to simplify the work of developers so that they can focus on more complex tasks and in the process, to optimize the software development lifecycle. Jira is a software application used for issue tracking and project management. It is widely used by agile development teams to track bugs, stories, epics, and other tasks. Epics are large bodies of work that can be broken down into a number of smaller tasks (called stories). Stories, also called “user stories,” are short requirements or requests written from the perspective of an end user. Our aim is to convert epics/stories to pseudo code. Despite the advantages of the Agile Model, developing software may still be a difficult and drawn-out process, especially when it comes to translating user requirements into functional code. Developers often translate user epics or stories manually into code as part of this process, which can take a lot of time and work. Our study intends to investigate the potential of utilising machine learning methods and natural language processing to automate the process of generating code and pseudocode from user stories in order to address this difficulty. By doing this, we hope to streamline developers’ tasks, enhance the software development lifecycle, and boost the effectiveness of the entire industrial project. Recent advancements in the field of natural language processing have made it possible to automate a variety of formerly manual operations. Recent developments in deep learning, in particular, have made it possible to create sophisticated natural language models that can extract context and meaning from text input. By utilising these models, we can quickly and efficiently create code or pseudocode from user stories, relieving the pressure on developers. Our study will examine a variety of currently used methodologies, including as rule-based systems, statistical models, and deep learning techniques, for producing code or pseudocode from user stories. We will assess the benefits and drawbacks of each methodology and suggest a novel strategy that makes the most of their advantages. Overall, our research paper aims to make software development more efficient and effective by automating the process of code/pseudocode generation from user stories. By doing so, we hope to free up developers to focus on more complex tasks, reduce the risk of errors, and ultimately deliver better software products to users. New Submission Flow The biggest change in the writer's UI is the submission process. HackerNoon now incentivizes authors who post original content with faster turnaround times. By default, the “submit story” button no longer appears unless you specify whether your story is an original submission i.e. not a repost or not (Remember: no cheating. Or, this repetition can be fun and playful if it is interpreted as an important and deliberate choice from the playwright: “a choice to be honored,” as one performer said. When the system did repeat itself, the cast was able to make the lines more meaningful with their own unique human talents. As one said, “you can do so much with your line reading, with your physicality, delivery, proximity, and acting choices.” Third, the team discussed agency and expectations of the systems capabilities. For instance, in the way that the performers would refer to the system’s choices. One said “Dramatron was trying to show me the angle,” or “I was trying to understand what Dramatron meant”. Discussions amongst the creative team explored their expectations of what the system could and could not do. In Poetics [5], Aristotle identified plot (or mythos) as the most important part of a tragic story—the other elements being characters, their thoughts, language, melody and spectacle. The plot is the sequence of actions that shape the story. Each plot point is coherent with, and a consequence of, the previous point(s). Aristotle introduced the well-known simple 3-point plot: beginning, middle, and end. There are many dramatic structures extending the work of Aristotle [82]. For example, one of the many adaptations of Freytag’s pyramid [40], popular in Western storytelling is illustrated in Fig. 2. It includes this sequence of plot points: Exposition, Inciting Incident, a Rising Action composed of a series of Conflicts, Complications, and Dilemmas, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution, and Dénouement. Seminal work in narrative analysis [58, 83, 93] suggests general but mutable structures present in storytelling processes across many linguistic and cultural traditions (e.g. abstract, orientation, complicating action, and coda narrative clauses). The finding that narratives in many societies and in various languages make use of large, modular elements has inspired the use of models of narrative in automated storytelling, as can be seen in fields such as computational narratology [53, 63]. The general structures found in the Structuralist narratology of Propp [83] and the Personal Experience Narratives of Labov and Waletzky [58] are aligned with Freytag’s pyramid, which we choose because it is more in line with the specific discourse genre of dramatic scripts, and arguably more familiar to the playwrights we engaged with over the course of our study. However, we note that our choice of narrative structure is not universal in scope, and is, in fact, "characteristically Western" [26, 53]. Alternative story shapes, or "story grammars" [94] are possible [6, 17]. Fig. 2 also shows an alternative story structure: the Hero’s Journey or Monomyth [15, 110]. For narrative coherence, we leverage plot beats in our hierarchical generation. Oftentimes the seed of narrative inspiration for a screenplay or theatre script is a log line [98]. The log line summarizes the story in a few sentences and is often adapted over the course of production due to creative team preferences and cultural references. In Poetics [5], Aristotle identified plot (or mythos) as the most important part of a tragic story—the other elements being characters, their thoughts, language, melody and spectacle. The plot is the sequence of actions that shape the story. Each plot point is coherent with, and a consequence of, the previous point(s). Aristotle introduced the well-known simple 3-point plot: beginning, middle, and end. There are many dramatic structures extending the work of Aristotle [82]. For example, one of the many adaptations of Freytag’s pyramid [40], popular in Western storytelling is illustrated in Fig. 2. It includes this sequence of plot points: Exposition, Inciting Incident, a Rising Action composed of a series of Conflicts, Complications, and Dilemmas, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution, and Dénouement. Seminal work in narrative analysis [58, 83, 93] suggests general but mutable structures present in storytelling processes across many linguistic and cultural traditions (e.g. abstract, orientation, complicating action, and coda narrative clauses). The finding that narratives in many societies and in various languages make use of large, modular elements has inspired the use of models of narrative in automated storytelling, as can be seen in fields such as computational narratology [53, 63]. The general structures found in the Structuralist narratology of Propp [83] and the Personal Experience Narratives of Labov and Waletzky [58] are aligned with Freytag’s pyramid, which we choose because it is more in line with the specific discourse genre of dramatic scripts, and arguably more familiar to the playwrights we engaged with over the course of our study. However, we note that our choice of narrative structure is not universal in scope, and is, in fact, "characteristically Western" [26, 53]. Alternative story shapes, or "story grammars" [94] are possible [6, 17]. Fig. 2 also shows an alternative story structure: the Hero’s Journey or Monomyth [15, 110]. For narrative coherence, we leverage plot beats in our hierarchical generation. Oftentimes the seed of narrative inspiration for a screenplay or theatre script is a log line [98]. The log line summarizes the story in a few sentences and is often adapted over the course of production due to creative team preferences and cultural references.
