HackerNoon Reporter: Please tell us briefly about your background. I work to make property investing accessible, transparent, and streamlined with SolidBlock, where I am the Co-CEO and Co-founder. Prior to that, I spent almost two decades in the financial markets. I started at a Wall Street broker-dealer as an analyst, moving to M&A and private equity, as well as financial engineering, structuring products and indices for pensions funds and family offices. I worked on the largest IPO of an Israeli real estate company on AIM and served as an executive on the largest MVNO in Israel that was listed on NASDAQ. I’ve co-founded several fintech startups, a successful marketing company in the blockchain space, and an import/export company that was acquired. I am also a regional co-chair at FIBREE, the Foundation for International Blockchain and Real Estate Expertise, the leading international network for exchanging knowledge between the real estate industry.  I have appeared as a guest speaker in over 50 conferences and events and also have a podcast (Apple podcast, Spotify: BlockSolid), and a full course on tokenization. Have also been listed in the Top 25 Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Speakers and 100 Most Inspirational Women In Blockchain. What's your startup called? And in a sentence or two, what does it do? SolidBlock makes property work for everyone. We are building a new asset class based on real estate, combining the stability of the property market growth and the efficiency of blockchain-based financial products. SolidBlock creates tradable digital assets backed by real estate that grant investors rights to revenue, dividends, or interest and allow them to benefit from the growth of their property as well as trade their assets at any time. What is the origin story? Both my partner Yuval and I (first independently) wanted to go into a real estate investment and realized how difficult it was for non-accredited or even institutional investors to get access to great deals. Yuval was approached to build a tech platform for the tokenization of St.Regis in Aspen. I heard about the deal & realized it was done by SolidBlock, tracked down Yuval who happened to live an hour and a half away and within a few months we partnered up. What do you love about your team, and why are you the ones to solve this problem? We are passionate about bringing real estate opportunities to people around the world, using blockchain technology, enabling easier access, trading, and transparency, with the goal of making real estate work for everyone. We care because we are also everyone! Our competitors are focused on providing a technical solution for fractional investment. Very few are focused on finding buyers & sellers for digital securities or creating demand and supply. Our differentiation lies in financial engineering - creating processes for product-to-investor fit and an investor network to facilitate the trading. If you weren’t building your startup, what would you be doing? If I wasn’t building my startup I would either be a Yoga instructor or I would be writing music. At the moment, how do you measure success? What are your core metrics? We have very specific KPIs of success: At least $10B in tokenized assets as a part of the networks. At least $100M per month (cUSD in circulation)in additional assets approaching the network for underwriting/trade monthly in the first year. 100,000 cUSD users by month 6 from launch and 1M users by month 12. Trade level - $20M monthly within the first year (additional 20M cUSD) What’s most exciting about your traction to date? SolidBlock is best known for spearheading the first successful commercial real estate tokenization, which raised $18 million through Templum Markets and the Indiegogo platform for the development of the Aspen St. Regis Hotel, a five-star luxe ski destination. Some of the things we have accomplished so far: 1st ever successful commercial property digital offering:  St. Regis Aspen Resort, raising $18M (see case study). Over $400K in revenue since launch Successfully closed ~$1.1M of $2.5M round in addition to $1M signed term sheet and additional commitments Partnerships with major players:  Chamber of Digital Commerce, TZero, North Capital, Realto, Entoro, and more Pipeline valued at over $100M SolidBlock expected earnings > $1.4M in the next 12 months ($100K in MMR in 12 months) What technologies are you currently most excited about, and most worried about? And why? I am definitely most excited about blockchain and its diverse applications and the implications of its use in varied fields and most obviously in fintech and proptech - where we work. I believe that I am not alone in stating that the technology that is simultaneously most frightening and quite exciting is AI. What drew you to get published on HackerNoon? What do you like most about our platform? I really like HackerNoon’s openness to publishing diverse content without limitations and censorship. Also I really like the awesome and unique design. What advice would you give to the 21-year-old version of yourself? I would tell my 21-year-old self that “You are on the right path. Keep pushing”. What is something surprising you've learned this year that your contemporaries would benefit from knowing? This past year has taught me that building a startup is a lot less about being at the right place at the right time and more about the following methodology and getting to the market faster than your competition. THE SANCTUM SANCTORUM AND SACRED CHAIR here THE SANCTUM SANCTORUM AND SACRED CHAIR In a room in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, there is a museum of objects which have attained to holiness through contact with Mrs. Eddy—among them an electrically lighted oil-picture of a chair which she used to sit in—and disciples from all about the world go softly in there, in restricted groups, under proper guard, and reverently gaze upon those relics. It is worship. Mrs. Eddy could stop it if she was not fond of it, for her sovereignty over that temple is supreme. The fitting-up of that place as a shrine is not an accident, nor a casual, unweighed idea; it is imitated from age—old religious custom. In Treves the pilgrim reverently gazes upon the Seamless Robe, and humbly worships; and does the same in that other continental church where they keep a duplicate; and does likewise in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, in Jerusalem, where memorials of the Crucifixion are preserved; and now, by good fortune we have our Holy Chair and things, and a market for our adorations nearer home. But is there not a detail that is new, fresh, original? Yes, whatever old thing Mrs. Eddy touches gets something new by the contact—something not thought of before by any one—something original, all her own, and copyrightable. The new feature is self worship—exhibited in permitting this shrine to be installed during her lifetime, and winking her sacred eye at it. A prominent Christian Scientist has assured me that the Scientists do not worship Mrs. Eddy, and I think it likely that there may be five or six of the cult in the world who do not worship her, but she herself is certainly not of that company. Any healthy-minded person who will examine Mrs. Eddy's little Autobiography and the Manual of By-laws written by her will be convinced that she worships herself; and that she brings to this service a fervor of devotion surpassing even that which she formerly laid at the feet of the Dollar, and equalling any which rises to the Throne of Grace from any quarter. I think this is as good a place as any to salve a hurt which I was the means of inflicting upon a Christian Scientist lately. The first third of this book was written in 1899 in Vienna. Until last summer I had supposed that that third had been printed in a book which I published about a year later—a hap which had not happened. I then sent the chapters composing it to the North American Review, but failed in one instance, to date them. And so, in an undated chapter I said a lady told me “last night” so and so. There was nothing to indicate to the reader that that “last night” was several years old, therefore the phrase seemed to refer to a night of very recent date. What the lady had told me was, that in a part of the Mother-Church in Boston she had seen Scientists worshipping a portrait of Mrs. Eddy before which a light was kept constantly burning. A Scientist came to me and wished me to retract that “untruth.” He said there was no such portrait, and that if I wanted to be sure of it I could go to Boston and see for myself. I explained that my “last night” meant a good while ago; that I did not doubt his assertion that there was no such portrait there now, but that I should continue to believe it had been there at the time of the lady's visit until she should retract her statement herself. I was at no time vouching for the truth of the remark, nevertheless I considered it worth par. And yet I am sorry the lady told me, since a wound which brings me no happiness has resulted. I am most willing to apply such salve as I can. The best way to set the matter right and make everything pleasant and agreeable all around will be to print in this place a description of the shrine as it appeared to a recent visitor, Mr. Frederick W. Peabody, of Boston. I will copy his newspaper account, and the reader will see that Mrs. Eddy's portrait is not there now: “We lately stood on the threshold of the Holy of Holies of the Mother-Church, and with a crowd of worshippers patiently waited for admittance to the hallowed precincts of the 'Mother's Room.' Over the doorway was a sign informing us that but four persons at a time would be admitted; that they would be permitted to remain but five minutes only, and would please retire from the 'Mother's Room' at the ringing of the bell. Entering with three of the faithful, we looked with profane eyes upon the consecrated furnishings. A show-woman in attendance monotonously announced the character of the different appointments. Set in a recess of the wall and illumined with electric light was an oil-painting the show-woman seriously declared to be a lifelike and realistic picture of the Chair in which the Mother sat when she composed her 'inspired' work. It was a picture of an old-fashioned? country, hair cloth rocking-chair, and an exceedingly commonplace-looking table with a pile of manuscript, an ink-bottle, and pen conspicuously upon it. On the floor were sheets of manuscript. 'The mantel-piece is of pure onyx,' continued the show-woman, 'and the beehive upon the window-sill is made from one solid block of onyx; the rug is made of a hundred breasts of eider-down ducks, and the toilet-room you see in the corner is of the latest design, with gold-plated drain-pipes; the painted windows are from the Mother's poem, “Christ and Christmas,” and that case contains complete copies of all the Mother's books.' The chairs upon which the sacred person of the Mother had reposed were protected from sacrilegious touch by a broad band of satin ribbon. My companions expressed their admiration in subdued and reverent tones, and at the tinkling of the bell we reverently tiptoed out of the room to admit another delegation of the patient waiters at the door.” Now, then, I hope the wound is healed. I am willing to relinquish the portrait, and compromise on the Chair. At the same time, if I were going to worship either, I should not choose the Chair. As a picturesquely and persistently interesting personage, there is no mate to Mrs. Eddy, the accepted Equal of the Saviour. But some of her tastes are so different from His! I find it quite impossible to imagine Him, in life, standing sponsor for that museum there, and taking pleasure in its sumptuous shows. I believe He would put that Chair in the fire, and the bell along with it; and I think He would make the show-woman go away. I think He would break those electric bulbs, and the “mantel-piece of pure onyx,” and say reproachful things about the golden drain-pipes of the lavatory, and give the costly rug of duck-breasts to the poor, and sever the satin ribbon and invite the weary to rest and ease their aches in the consecrated chairs. What He would do with the painted windows we can better conjecture when we come presently to examine their peculiarities. Following the most interesting and influential personalities in blockchain is a good way to stay up to date on crypto news and learn about promising projects and assets. Here are 20 blockchain entrepreneurs, coders, investors, and event organizers that worth following this year. 1. Mykola Udianskyi Nikolay has 7+ years of experience developing and funding crypto projects. He has helped launch five of the world’s top 50 crypto exchanges, including Coinsbit, which entered the global top 10 after just two years in the market and whose audience exceeds one million. Today, he is one of the most popular and influential people in decentralized finance. Andre Cronje has 20+ years of software development experience, but for the past five years, he has been working exclusively in the field of fintech and blockchain. Cronje also developed several solutions to reduce the cost of financial products for the non-banking sector in Africa. 3. Bohdan Prylepa Bohdan Prylepa is a recognized expert in strategic and business development, brand-building, financial modeling, startup monetization, fundraising, and creating investment portfolios. Ilya Churakov Ilya Churakov is an IT and blockchain entrepreneur with 16 years of expertise in asset management and private banking. He is best known as the CEO of DAO Consensus, a business community with representatives in 30 countries that has gained 7,000 new active members in the past three months alone. Ilya’s other projects include the digital asset bank Crypterium, which raised $55 million during the ICO and now has 200,000 customers in 180 countries. Ilya Churakov even holds the world record for the largest-ever webinar: in 2012, an online event he hosted gathered 12,000 participants. 6. Carl Runefelt Carl Runefelt’s YouTube channel The Moon has almost 400,000 subscribers, making him one of the most influential educators in the crypto space. After starting out as a boy working at a grocery store, he went on to speak on international stages in front of thousands of people. Runefelt’s most famous quote is “Bitcoin is the best form of money in the history of mankind” – and it is this message that he tirelessly spreads on YouTube, Twitter, and elsewhere. 7. Guy Yanpolskiy Guy Yanpolskiy is a marketer, adviser, and PR specialist with over 15 years of experience. He has been active as a blockchain advisor since 2013, raising over $10 million in funding for his own projects and the startups he advised, including a single $6 million allocation from a fund based in Dubai. Guy also co-founded the PR and marketing agency Genirium, as well as the YAFO business development agency, the tech-focused media site Future Time, Solomonic Exchange, and the Guy Way Network. He is a well-known international speaker and participated in over 100 blockchain events in 2019 alone. 8. Sergei Khitrov Sergei Khitrov is a serial blockchain entrepreneur. Among other projects, he founded the crypto exchange listing agency Listing.help and the international cryptocurrency forum Blockchain Life. The Blockchain Life summit in Moscow was one of the very few major offline industry events to take place in 2020. Apart from exchange listings and event organization, Sergei Khitrov is also active in blockchain investment. Eman Pulis Eman Pulis is the CEO of SiGMA Group and the Malta AI and Blockchain Summit, Med-Tech World Summit, and Medical Cannabiz World Summit – some of the best-known international events in their respective industries. Eman’s ambition is to see technology like blockchain, IoT, AI, and big data embraced by large business verticals like iGaming and MedTech. He works toward this by holding his shows on the same dates as other major events, showing that emerging tech and traditional verticals can work in synergy. 10. Slava Demchuk Slava Demchuk is best known for his project AMLBot, a consumer application that has democratized AML services and allows individuals and small businesses to conduct their own crypto AML checks and identify risky assets. This is the first time that regular users and project teams have received access to enterprise-grade blockchain analytics, making Slava Demchuk an influential figure in the sphere of fintech security. Slava’s most recent project is AMLSafe, a crypto wallet with an enhanced security system and built-in AML check functionality to avoid regulatory and financial risks. 11. Tone Vays Tone Vays is one of the best-known Bitcoin evangelists: his YouTube channel was instrumental in educating the community. He is also one of the most popular public speakers in the industry, appearing at over 30 blockchain events a year. In addition to his busy speaking schedule, Tone hosts three events of his own: Unconfiscatable in Las Vegas, Understanding Bitcoin in Malta, and The Financial Summit in Bali and Dubai. Herbert Sim Herbert Sim, also known as the “Bitcoin Man,” was one of the original crypto influencers, having founded Crypto Chain University – the world’s first repository for blockchain research papers – back in 2010. Anthem Hayek Blanchard Anthem Hayek Blanchard co-founded several well-known fintech and IT companies, including the provider of ransomware-proof software Hera Software Development Inc., the gold-backed cryptocurrency company AnthemGold Inc., and the precious metals dealer Anthem Vault Inc. Anthem also served as director of strategic development and marketing with GoldMoney.
