I. INTRODUCTION Underwater gliders are extensively used in ocean research for activities such as ocean sampling, surveillance, and other purposes [1]–[5]. However, given the complexity of the ocean environment and the long-duration of glider missions, unexpected events such as shark attacks, wing loss, or attachment of marine species can cause gliders to operate abnormally or even totally fail [6]–[8]. In such cases, the gliders may drift to unexpected areas, making localization and rescue operations challenging. Furthermore, it can be difficult to detect the abnormal behavior of gliders, particularly when external disturbances arise, due to the lack of monitoring devices [9]–[12]. The deployment of monitoring devices for gliders or the addition of self-monitoring of performance would increase mission costs and pilot complexity. Typically, glider pilots can only rely on heavily subsetted data transmitted by the glider in real time to form hypotheses about potential anomalies. Sometimes, they just resort to climb and dive ballast data to assess if the glider is surfacing or diving as expected. However, this empirical detection can never be conclusively confirmed as the mission is going on. To address this challenge, we develop an anomaly detection algorithm that systematically utilizes simple glider data such as glider speed, heading, and trajectory. This algorithm is feasible for theoretical validation on numerous real-world glider datasets, and runs autonomously in real-time, as opposed to manual detection by human pilots. By monitoring gliders in realtime, the algorithm allows glider pilots to take appropriate actions promptly to ensure the safety and success of missions. Different strategies have been in the field of underwater robotics to identify abnormal behavior of underwater gliders. Some anomaly detection algorithms focus on changes in robot motion, such as roll angle or pitch angle, to detect possible motion deviation or a foreign object attached to the glider [13], [14]. Some algorithms monitor the power consumption or motor performance of the glider, as variations in these parameters can indicate degeneration of individual components, such as propellers and rotors [15]–[17]. Other algorithms utilize machine learning techniques to identify anomalous behavior by analyzing sensor data collected by the glider over time, such as changes in the speed, roll, pitch, or depth [18]–[20]. However, most of the existing research relies on shore-based manual implementations and does not resolve issues like inability to perform online detection on the gliders or lack of real-time experimental verification. In addition, it is essential to determine whether the detected anomaly is false positive [21], [22]. When the ocean current speed is significantly greater than the maximum speed of the marine robot, it can lead to a considerable performance degradation. Under such circumstances, false alarms should be avoided since the anomaly caused by an unexpected ocean current is unrelated to the glider itself. In practice, it is challenging to separate flow speed and glider speed due to hardware limitations, but leveraging the Controlled Lagrangian Particle Tracking (CLPT) framework [23], the anomaly detection algorithm in [24] generates real-time estimates of the glider speed and flow speed from the trajectory and heading angles. The estimated glider speed is compared with the normal speed range to detect anomalies, while the algorithm-estimated flow speed is compared with the gliderestimated flow speed to avoid false alarms. We initially validate the anomaly detection algorithm by using two real-life deployment datasets [25]. Building upon this previous work, we aim to extend the algorithm to largescale datasets, thus effectively handling various anomalies in diverse missions. We also plan to simulate online implementation of the detection to enable real-time interaction with glider pilots. This objectives constitute primary motivation of this paper, and our main contribution are summarized as follows. • We demonstrate generality of the anomaly detection algorithm based on four glider datasets collected in real deployments featuring diverse anomalies. • We simulate online mode implementation of the algorithm to a real glider deployment with limited data streams in real time for the first time. Building off its efficacy, the real-time anomaly detection algorithm is incorporated into the autonomous glider navigation software GENIoS Python [26] to better assist human pilots as an add-on warning functionality. Section III describes the experimental setup of glider deployments, verifies the algorithm by detecting anomalies in large-scale real experiments, and simulates the online implementation on subsetted glider datasets. Hey hackers 👋 I’m founder of Fluently, and I want to share my journey of creating a tool which help non-native professionals improve their English speaking skills with AI. Think Grammarly, but for video conferences. How the Idea Came About I lived in the States for over a year where I improved my English to an advanced level. I consume almost all information, including books in English. But despite this, in the last 4 months of living in London while attending the Entrepreneur First accelerator, I noticed that sometimes people still asked me to repeat what I’ve said. I saw from their faces that they didn’t understand anything. That's hard to hide. The funniest situation happened when a guy from Latvia quietly told me: "you pronounce 'vague' as 'wagyu'." The first word means unclear or indistinct, while the second is Japanese beef 😅 In short, I once again felt the desire to improve my English. The option of "oh well, they'll understand anyway, I'm not local" doesn't suit me at all. However, going to tutors is difficult. Firstly, you need to allocate time for lessons. Secondly, good tutors are expensive. Thirdly, the amount of feedback after an hour-long lesson is not much for a week. The Solution: Fluently My background as an ML engineer got me thinking: What if AI could track and highlight my common mistakes, and assist me in correcting them? Like a virtual tutor that fits organically into my daily routine and takes my English to a new level. That’s how Fluently started. First of all, I decided to spend a week to see if anyone else was interested. So I put together a landing page where you can sign up for the waitlist, and on the site itself, I simply outlined the main values of the product. The site hasn’t changed yet. Then I showed this landing page to my friends with the approach "hey, look what I found" to see how they would react. Surprisingly, 2/3 showed interest in the app and signed up for the waitlist on the site. The rest either have good English skills or don’t care. Also I shared a short demo video of Fluently in my Telegram channel, and a few friends reposted it. As a result, more than 200 people joined the waitlist. That was a big sign for me to start building! What is Fluently now? Fluently is an Mac app designed to help non-native professionals improve their English by giving instant feedback after online calls, like those on Google Meet or Zoom. Imagine that you have a personal coach who offers tips right after each call. To try Fluently, download an app and follow these easy steps: Start the app: Fluently activates when you speak English during online meetings.
Get feedback: After each call, Fluently provides feedback tailored to your language challenges, pointing out mistakes and suggesting improvements.

Effortless learning: No extra time needed – just learn from your usual meetings.
English Level Assessment: Evaluates your English level and identifies your strongest and weakest areas.
AI Tutor: Allows for English practice even when you’re not on calls. The Tech Side Since the app is for MacOS, I decided to write the client in Swift. We could have looked at Electron, but native apps always feel better. And if we have to dive into something low-level, it will be faster to solve issues in Swift. Currently, the app detects the start of a call and begins analyzing the user's audio in small chunks, processing them on the server. Only the user's speech is analyzed, and the speech of the interlocutor is not even heard by the app (except in some cases of loud conversations without headphones). The backend is written in Python, and the ML models are on PyTorch. The server receives the audio and detects pronunciation errors, which are sent back to the app. I won’t go into the implementation details of the pipeline itself, as that’s a topic for a separate post. To simplify, everything is arranged as follows: the audio is recognized into text, the text is translated into phonemes, and a separate model checks how well they match the sounds spoken in the audio recording. Privacy: of course we don’t collect the recordings themselves, only keeping statistics on errors. Besides, we don’t need English speech with a strong accent. I can record that for hours myself 😅 Next Steps I’m continuously working to improve Fluently. First of all, we are building web and mobile apps. To significantly increase Fluently potential audience. Learning to code is one of the most useful skills someone can learn. But let's say you were searching for a pirate's hidden treasure and you had a map that didn't show the exact location, but you knew it was somewhere around the Caribbean. Searching there could be your first thought, but not knowing exactly where it is, searching the entire Caribbean can take years. That's why you should start looking at where the pirate lived to collect clues. For example, Barbarossa was Turkish, so maybe you should visit Turkey to gather clues. The same is true with programming. Only practicing your coding skills will get you nowhere; you will just become a good employee, and that's all. You should start looking to other places where people haven't searched which will implicitly improve your coding skills. Mental Toughness As much as "mental toughness" might seem obscure, keep reading to better understand my point. Developers often talk about impostor syndrome or burnout, and if you are a developer yourself, you might have experienced it. Even if you have not experienced it yet, your brain will stop working after a few hours of coding. Imagine now that you never had any problems and you could code nonstop and have infinite inspiration. This is what happened to me when I started training my mental toughness. Training can come from other things. Stop playing video games and read books instead; this will give you discipline. Not wasting time-consuming content on social media, and instead, creating content will strengthen your mind. Stop masturbating every time you see an OF girl on Reddit or Instagram; this will toughen your mind to a point where things like impostor syndrome and burnout will cease to exist. Inspiration I know sun exposure can be difficult in some countries. But even in the UK where the sun is barely seen getting out each morning for 30-40, reading a book in the daylight can give you inspiration and motivation. Inspiration is really important when it comes to coding; we get it by doing things that have no connection with the thing we are working on. The most inspiration you will get is from trips to other places or countries. Half my time coding, I spent outside in the summer. Even now, I am writing this article outside. Body Strength "Mens sana in corpore sano" - A healthy mind is in a healthy body. But this works vice versa as well. Of course, as developers, we work on our minds all the time, but most developers have weak bodies. Exercising and going to the gym can give you the mental energy you need to solve complex problems and think outside the box. Exercising doesn't mean going to the gym for 3 hours every day. But 30-40 minutes of working out daily and 2-3 hours of cardio each week can do the job. Now that I am in a place where the nearest gym is 10 miles away, I do pushups all day. Daily 200-300 and running once every few days. That said, you don't even need a gym to work out; just do pushups. Conclusion In conclusion, while coding is an essential skill for developers, it's not the only one that matters. Mental toughness, inspiration, and physical fitness all play crucial roles in enhancing a developer's overall productivity and creativity. This reduction is roughly 2× for the random skill selection (i.e., Sk_R Vs. Lo_R) and 3×-4× for the least popular selection (i.e., Sk_LP Vs. Lo_LP). In the Lo_R scenario, 8, 14, and 23 skills are enough to make a user unique on LinkedIn with a probability of 50%, 75%, and 90%, respectively. For Lo_LP, the number of skills that make a user unique with those same probabilities is 3, 6, and 18, respectively. For the two scenarios that do not consider the user location, at least 28 skills are required to make a user unique with a probability ≥ 75%. If we look again at Figure 1, we observe that only around 30% of the users report 25 or more skills in their profile. This means that exclusively using the skills roughly reduces the nano-targetable users on LinkedIn to 1/3 of its user base. It is worth noting that this still represents a privacy risk for ∼250M LinkedIn users. Our data sample shows that 99% of the users on LinkedIn publicly share their location. In practice, the advertiser (attacker) willing to target an individual will be able to use the location in the vast majority of the cases, which reduces a lot the number of skills required to successfully nanotarget the user. In summary, our results show that the combination of the location and 6 rare skills reported by a user in their profile is enough to uniquely identify 3 out of 4 LinkedIn users. Increasing the number of skills to roughly 20 (rare or random) would allow uniquely identifying 9 out of 10 users. 5.1 Success Probability of Nanotargeting Campaigns Figure 5 shows the expected success probability (y-axis) of a nanotargeting campaign based on the combination of the location and N skills (x-axis). The figure depicts an upper bound for the success probability (red line) computed for the case where the least popular skills are selected and a lower bound (blue line) that refers to the random selection approach. The results suggest that an advertiser would need to use (roughly) between 5-8 skills more to achieve the same success probability when applying the random skills selection instead of the least popular skills selection. This is true except for very high success probabilities, such as 95%, where both strategies require a very similar number of skills. From a practical point of view, an advertiser willing to nanotarget an individual would use all the skills the individual reports in her profile because the cost of retrieving 1 or 40 skills is the same. If an advertiser selects all the skills, the random and least popular skill selection becomes the same strategy. Therefore, the success probability of a nanotargeting campaign is actually bounded by the amount of skills users report in their profiles. THE LIST is a luxury fashion marketplace powered by <GENESYS>, an AI-based API developed in-house. THE LIST allows the world’s best boutiques and brands to run AI-driven catalog production at current 810x cost efficiency vs. traditional product catalog production, enabling retailers to sell in 190 countries with integration time in single-digit days. THE LIST was founded by Andreas Skorski and has offices in New York City and Dubai. 1. What is your company in 2–5 words? Luxury fashion powered by AI. 2. Why is now the time for your company to exist? Luxury ecommerce has imploded in the last year or so (Financial Times, NYT). This is not an understatement. Online marketplaces for luxury brands are weighed down by incredibly high costs: tech development, catalog production, shipping, and data architecture. The tech behind luxury fashion marketplaces is 10 years behind and extremely inefficient. Even with margins of 50%, these marketplaces can’t make it work. That said, the market for luxury is not going anywhere.We built The List to showcase what the next stage of e-commerce is: that AI can operate a luxury fashion marketplace. We are building the largest LLM library in the industry to eliminate some of the market’s critical operational inefficiencies. Our AI-based API, <GENESYS> is the first viable, market-tested AI solution in the luxury industry, and powers other major retailers as well. Our machine learning API transforms any in-store retail product into a catalog in real-time by mapping ERP (enterprise resource planning) data, extracting attributes, and enriching data from images,  producing dozens of relevant data points  to describe it as such. It doesn’t just see a photo of a shoe. It understands the height of the heel, the fact that it’s suede, the exact color, the seasons it can be worn in. It’s 98.9% accurate and working for hundreds of thousands of products in real-time. 3. What do you love about your team, and why are you the ones to solve this problem? Many of our data scientists previously worked for a competitor or the biggest global retail brands. They see how the future of e-commerce could look like and want to actually build something that operates at the same level AI really operates today, having efficiency as the number 1 priority in mind. The cost of getting a single product (SKU) into a catalog can be up to $80 per SKU. It’s fairly common for marketplaces to add 100,000 new SKUs to their sites weekly, so our competitors are burning a ton of cash every week. Our team has been watching, training, and guiding our own model of catalog production for years. Our cost is now down to less than 10 cents per SKU. So the team is remarkably goal-oriented and determined to find solutions to problems they personally experienced as data scientists in the industry. 4. If you weren’t building your startup, what would you be doing? Probably building some other startup. When I was 17 I created the first ad scanner technology for print magazines in Germany. Since then I haven’t really stopped. 5. At the moment, how do you measure success? What are your metrics? We are a software-focused retail marketplace, so we look at both the retail success of our marketplace and the efficiency of our <GENESYS> API. For us it is all about giving a top-class experience to our customers while driving down costs for our suppliers. If there is an inefficiency in the value chain we are likely already working on the models to fix it. 7. What’s most exciting about your traction to date? Luxury fashion is perfect for data scientists to train a model. It’s very fast moving and changes all the time. There’s seasonality in collections, now even more with capsule collections. And the more variations you feed into a model, the faster it learns. We started out years ago, and at the time, AI-driven efficiencies were not hot. The progress of LLMs on the market has accelerated interest in what we do, which is very exciting. You can do a lot with open source models, but you have an advantage if you already have a database that you’ve been training with your own models and scanning millions of data points. Tens of thousands of customers have validated our AI with their purchases.  It’s gratifying to be getting traction now with suppliers and other major players in the industry. 8. Where do you think your growth will be next year? We are going to scale our direct to consumer marketplace growth this year in more markets while  also building out our platform business with our b2b customers. 9. Tell us about your first paying customer and revenue expectations over the next year. We had our first paying customer years ago! We’re pivoting. 10. What’s your biggest threat? Our biggest threat is a general bearishness in the luxury market at the moment. Retailers are skittish about investing in multi brand marketplaces after what has happened to our competitors. They’re looking at finding better solutions, but there is still a lot of education to be done in the AI space to showcase it is already a commercially viable and operating solution and not just a dream of the future.
