If they find some tools that can show them exactly where they need to make changes to improve the quality of the code. There are many of them, but I will explain how you can set up SonarQube locally with docker so that you can evaluate your project code quality. Without wasting any time let’s begin. Prerequisite You must have docker installed in your system. If you don’t have it installed, then please feel free to set up Docker using this link. Docker Container On your root project, create a docker-compose.yml file, and then we will need a database so that Sonarqube can store its analytical data. postgres:

This ensures that the SonarQube container will automatically restart if it crashes or if the Docker host is rebooted.

This maps port 9000 on the host machine to port 9000 inside the container. SonarQube’s web interface runs on port 9000, so this makes it accessible from the host machine's browser at http://localhost:9000.

    driver: local Inside your project directory, open a terminal, and to start and run the services do docker-compose up . Setup SonarQube Once the services are running on a browser, go to localhost:9000, and it will open the Sonarqube log-in page. The default username and password is admin. Once you are logged in, it will ask you to set up a new password. After completing these steps, you will be able to see the Sonarqube dashboard. As we are running the Sonarqube locally, we will create a local project. In the below, you will see the marked section that you have to click. It will ask for a project name and a branch name. I will leave the branch name as main. You can choose any branch that you have and create a project. Then we will see a new section where we have to choose Use the global setting  for now. Once we click on  create project, it should ask to generate a token. I will only update the Expires in section and make it to No Expiration. Once we generate a token, it will ask us to select our project coding language; after choosing that, we need to download the scanner zip folder. I have marked the section where you will find it below. Let’s unzip the folder and open the folder; you will find the bin folder, and inside, you will find a sonar-scanner file. Copy the path of that file, and save it in a text file. ~./sonar-scanner-cli-6.1.0.4477-linux-x64/sonar-scanner-6.1.0.4477-linux-x64/bin After that, you need to copy the command given in the Execute the Scanner section. Once it finishes the operation, you should see some analytical information in the Sonarqube dashboard. And then, you should be able to see some metrics, and if you have any issues, you should be able to see the reasons for marking it as an issue. I will only update the Expires in section and make it to No Expiration . In last week’s post, as I was , I asked a question I feel is key to a successful job search: talking about job descriptions “Do you like the company because of it’s culture, creation, community, calling, or some other aspect? But… Even when you are panic-applying to every single job that fits the bill, I’d still like to suggest you take a moment and reflect on the  type of company you’d LIKE to work at. What kind of place would allow you to thrive and grow? That question, in and of itself, is often not enough to help lead you to an answer. This takes me back to the idea from last week’s post. Think about the type of company you would enjoy. One example I mention often is Patagonia. Yes, they make and sell clothing. But what people often comment on is the company’s commitment to teamwork,  balance, and health among its employees. culture How about the around the company? One example is the NFL. Another is Taylor Swift. (it’s ironic that, as I write this, those two  entities have never been more closely linked than they are because of  Tay’s relationship with Travis Kelce). In both cases you, yourself, may  not be all that interested in football (or Taylor Swift songs. But  honestly, what’s wrong with you?!?) But the chance to enable those fans (and superfans) to be part of such a powerful community might be exciting for you. community There’s also the company’s “ ” – it’s mission – that’s worth considering. The example I use (and I’ve ) is Crayola. My personal version of their is: That’s a mission I would love to be part of. calling written about this before mission statement “We provide the tools for humans of all ages to realize their most creative selves. If that means creating markers that work on windows, we’ll make them. If it requires foaming bathtub soap, we’re here for it. Oh, and we also make little sticks of colored wax.” And of course, there’s the (i.e. product) itself. When I bring up this point, everyone immediately mentions . And they’re not wrong. Those products are beloved by millions. But I also think of  Pixar. I’d be willing to sweep floors if it meant I could be that close  to the people creating those stories, and lots of folks I talk to agree. creation Apple To be clear, I’m not suggesting everyone apply to Patagonia, the NFL, etc. I’m saying you should take a moment and think  about those companies, products, brands, and communities that engage and  excite you. The ones that you have a natural affinity for if not a  loyalty to. literally I also want to state that often, this is a case of “never meet your heroes.” I know more than one person who has pursued a job at their  so-called “dream company”, only to get into the interview process and  discover an ugly underbelly to the entire organization. While that’s certainly disappointing, it’s also OK. Not every company is perfect, not every job is for every person, and sometimes you  realize you’re OK with being a consumer of a brand and not a producer.  And there are just as many cases where folks pursue a job at the company and find out it’s every bit as wonderful as they’d heard (and hoped). Which is a huge benefit if interest leads to an interview. Because in an interview, that level of interest, involvement, and passion is something that cannot be faked and also can’t be taught. You might not have all the skills on the checklist, but most hiring managers will notice (and choose) someone who expresses interest in the actual company and what they do. If you are looking for your next job, do yourself a favor and take a moment to think about your fandoms, favorites, and things that tickle your fancy.
