In the gaming world (and also in the movie world), remakes, reboots, and sequels happen all the time. Old, dormant IPs often get a second or even a third chance. And it seems that franchises once thought dead are brought back to life fairly consistently. However, that’s not the case for every IP. Some gaming franchises don’t seem to get the same opportunities that others do. So, in this era of reviving old franchises, here are 5 Gaming IPs that need to get the same treatment. F-Zero 1. Twisted Metal Even though this franchise is flourishing as a TV show on the streaming service Peacock, Twisted Metal hasn’t had a new installment in its franchise since 2012 which still seems like a huge surprise to me. I would’ve put Twisted Metal as a PlayStation staple in the same realm as God of War, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, etc. And what makes this sting even more is that there is no real competitor to Twisted Metal that you can turn to instead. The vehicular combat genre isn’t exactly flourishing, so if you wanted to play games similar to Twisted Metal, there’s nowhere to turn. P.S. While we’re on the subject of PlayStation games, it would be great to see another installment in the Infamous or even the Sly Cooper franchise. 2. Rayman Oh Rayman fans, how I weep for you. Although Rayman the character pops up in other games such as the Rabbids series and the Mario + Rabbids series, it’s been quite a while since he’s had his own game. And no, I’m not including the mobile games that he’s had. The last installment in the Rayman series was Rayman Legends back in 2013. It’s been a whole 11 years since we’ve jumped into the world of Rayman, and to put it very bluntly, the future of Rayman does not look good at all. Ubisoft does not seem interested in reviving the franchise at all, and Creative Director Davide Soliani, who worked at Ubisoft for 25 years and who was a huge advocate for Rayman, announced that he was leaving the company earlier this year. It’s never say never, but I would definitely not hold my breath waiting for a new Rayman game. 3. Banjo-Kazooie From one dormant platformer franchise to the next, Banjo-Kazooie is in a similar boat as Rayman. This gaming franchise made its debut on the Nintendo 64, and it seemed like it had great potential. And a lot of that potential was realized; I’m not going to sit here and act as if Banjo-Kazooie is a failure. But it’s been a long time since we’ve had a new game in the franchise. We’ve had re-releases, so you can play Banjo-Kazooie on the Nintendo Switch if you have Nintendo Switch Online + the Expansion Pack or you can play the game and its two sequels on Xbox. You can also play as Banjo & Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. While these experiences are cool, it doesn’t make up for the fact that it’s been 16 years since its last installment. And Rare, the developer behind the franchise, seems to be extremely occupied with the mega-successful game Sea of Thieves. So, who knows when they’ll have time to work on another Banjo-Kazooie. 4. Darkstalkers Out of all the games on this list, I think Darkstalkers has the biggest chance of making a comeback. Although Rayman and Banjo-Kazooie make appearances here and there, they feel as if they’ve been left behind by Ubisoft and Rare respectively. The same can’t be said for Darkstalkers. The franchise has had numerous compilations with the most recent one being the Capcom Fighting Collection, where 5 of the Darkstalkers games were included. Plus, multiple Darkstalkers characters have been a part of the Marvel vs. Capcom series. It’s clear that the franchise is still deep in the heart of Capcom, and although I can’t say that I expect a game anytime soon, I will be very surprised if we don’t see a new installment sometime in the future. 5. F-Zero If we’re talking about dormant franchises, there’s probably none more well-known than Nintendo’s F-Zero; it’s basically become the poster boy for franchises that deserve to come back. Captain Falcon, its main character, is more well-known for being a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. series than he is for starring in the F-Zero series. The last F-Zero game to come out was actually F-Zero 99 just last year; it’s a battle royale game for the Nintendo Switch. However, it’s been 20 whole years since we’ve had a true F-Zero game. Maybe Nintendo thinks that because Mario Kart is wildly successful that it doesn’t make sense to work on F-Zero as well; that maybe there’s no room for two racing game franchises. I hope that’s not the case because that just sounds ridiculous. I could see a future where we get another Banjo-Kazooie game or another Darkstalkers game, but for some reason, I seriously can’t imagine a timeline where we get another F-Zero game. AI is making waves, and everyone's wondering how it will shape the future. Let’s dive into the latest insights from Sequoia Capital. But the real question is, where's the money going? For every dollar spent on a GPU, another dollar is needed for energy to run it in a data center. If Nvidia makes $50B from GPUs by the end of the year, data center costs will be about $100B. Companies using these GPUs, like Starbucks or Tesla, must make a 50% profit margin (assume that margin, which is a reasonable average). So, for every $50BN worth of chips sold, the companies need to create $200BN worth of revenues to make the purchase viable. The actual gap is $600BN. Investment Losses: Investing in new technologies often leads to big losses. History shows that during technology booms, many people lose money, like with railroads. It’s easier to see which investments will lose money than which will win. Depreciation: Technology like GPUs gets better quickly. Nvidia will keep making better chips, like the B100, which will make current chips lose value fast. People overestimate how long current chips will stay valuable, unlike railroads, which don’t get better as quickly. Last word: Winners vs. Losers: There are always winners, even when there’s too much “building” fuelled by VC money. AI is expected to be the next big thing. Lower GPU costs are suitable for new ideas and startups. While investors might lose money, AI company founders will likely succeed due to lower costs and the lessons learned during this time. Forget about the current costs of AI training and GPUs and start building solutions that add value to end customers. It is still early days of AI. It's been a long old slog to get here (8 months in fact). Here's rough timeline of what the last 8 months have looked like: Month 1 - validation: My tool called Basefront - basefront.app is within the Airtable space (it's a tool to create directories, galleries and job boards with airtable data that you can integrate on any site) and I had already built up an audience in this space. In order to get validation before I actually went ahead and built the thing I set myself a goal of getting 10 presales at heavily discounted rate. I managed to get 12 presales before the initial MVP went live and this for me was enough validation to build. At this point total revenue was around $450. Months 2-5 - build: Surprise, surprise, this actually took alot longer than the 1 month I initially planned, more like 3 months. There was just no way round it. Working with the airtable API and creating the customization features I had planned meant this was a hefty build and thats with stripping things back like user groups, paywalls etc etc. I built the tool in bubble using nocode but essentially I use it to then create the code my users then add to their stack. I used Claude (anthropic) alot for the code part of things - massive help. Month 6 - 'We're live in beta' My first email went out to my existing list and this was an exciting and nerve wracking time. My list wasn't massive so my plan was to essentially use this phase as beta testing. The tool has a free plan and I made it clear we were in beta. I also asked everyone who used the tool if they would be happy to provide feedback for 3 months of full access PRO plan. I managed to get some great feedback, but honestly it's painful, of 160 or so people on my list, about 30 tried it and 5 came back with helpful feedback and by the end of this month I also managed to get another 4 paid users signed up (who interestingly preferred to pay than to offer feedback in return for PRO access). Revenue at this point was close to $600. Month 7 - 'fix as much stuff as possible' There's always going to be things that slip through the net and bugs that popup. I knew if I could just get the product to a 'useable' and 'enjoyable' state that my users wouldn't mind about a few small bugs and fixes (especially as I made it clear I was in beta). I Built a simple logging process to track common user activity (creating, editing deleting etc) and this gave me valuable insight into any issues that were arising. I should have probably added something like hotjar for even better insight (this is on my list still). [It's worth noting that as soon my product was in beta I also did marketing every week day for at least 1 hr] So by this point I had done nearly 8 weeks of marketing and the compounding effects started to take place, I was getting on average 2 free users sign up a day (around 60 per month). I got another 5 pro users sign up this month a few on annual so my total revenue at this point was around $780. Month 8 - 'refine and add a few new essential features' I added crisp chat and an easy way for current logged in users to get in contact. This was so important and it was great to feel more connected to my users I started receiving more helpful comments and questions which meant I could start to better prioritize what to work on. Also just by letting my users know I was there I started to build up better relationships with a few people who have now ended up going pro this month. My total revenue this month so far is just over $230 meaning I crossed the 1k mark. It feels great to have got here, but this has been no easy challenge at all. For anyone who's thinking about doing the saas thing and thinks they can start earning real bucks in a month or so... I would say this is most likely not going to be the case! But... I knew this would most likely be the case. I had built and successfully exited a few products before and now I'm playing the long game. My goal is that within 12 months from now I can stop freelancing and even If I only grow by 4 paid users a month I should nearly, just about be earning enough to pay the bills!! Crossing $1k Revenue for my App :)

I will share what I did to get customers and the lessons I learned to help fellow startup founders. The revenue is not life-changing, but I’m thrilled it’s gaining traction! 🙏 A little backstory: After many failed startups, I realized the problem I needed to solve for myself: finding customers. So, I built CustomerFinderBot to scratch my own itch, and it turns out others found it useful too. The pitch: Find Your Customers in Seconds with Social Media AI. Until now, I still can’t believe that people are using and paying for a tool that I built. I had very low expectations when I built and launched this because I’m already so used to building and launching projects and ending up with 0 or close to 0 users. Or when my previous projects gained some users, none were willing to pay so they ended up being added to my list of failures. Launch Results: 1st day — Gained 2 paying customers2nd day — 03rd day — Gained 1 paying customer4th day — 05th day — Gained 7 paying customers After that, sales started coming in almost daily! Find people on Twitter and Reddit that are looking for alternatives to my competitors, complaining about my competitors or asking recommendations for a solution to their problem that my product directly solves. I use CustomerFinderBot to save time and effort since it automates these things. Then I reach out to them to help them by answering their questions and suggesting the tool that I built. It’s a win-win for both parties. This strategy is effective because they already want my product so they have a high probability to end up buying. My next steps: Keep on iterating by improving the tool based on customer feedback. List on directory websites. Launch on Product Hunt. Invest time and effort in SEO. This takes a lot of effort and patience because it takes a while to see results but based on what I learned from others and from my own personal experience it’s one of the most sustainable customer acquisition channel. It’s not a quick and easy way to make money, and it has a very high failure rate considering around 90% of startups fail.


Gathering feedback from customers really provides you with a lot of valuable information. You will discover a lot use-cases that you haven’t thought of which will give you a better idea on what features you should build. By doing this, you’ll end up building features that your target customers really needs and wants instead of building features that you think will be useful but ends up no one uses.


Burnout is real, so do everything you can to prevent it. It’s really very tiring especially if you’re a solo founder which does all the work.


Solve real problems (e.g., save them time and effort, make them more money). Focus on the pain points of your target customers. Solve 1 problem and do it really well.


Prefer to use the tools that you already know. Don’t spend too much time thinking about what are the best tool to use. The best tool for you is the one you already know. Your customers won’t care about the tools you use; what they care about is you’re solving their problem.


Don’t add every feature you can think of. Start with a MVP that solves the core problem, then iterate based on user feedback.


Validate immediately to see if people will pay for it then move on if not. Don’t over-engineer. It doesn’t need to be scalable initially.


Do lots of marketing; this is a must because build it and they will come rarely succeeds.
