Following VITS [35], we utilize a variational autoencoder and a monotonic alignment search (MAS) to align the text and speech internally, as shown in Fig 4. We replace the linear spectrogram with a self-supervised speech representation for the input of posterior encoder, and we reconstruct the same self-supervised speech representation for the output of TTV. Furthermore, we predict a F0 with four× larger resolutions than the self-supervised speech representation. We use a text sequence and prosody prompt as conditional information to generate a self-supervised speech representation of the data. We utilize a prosody conditional text representation as the prior information. A prosody style representation is extracted from the full-length input speech as a global style embedding. Owing to the semantic information of self supervised speech representation, we can transfer a prosody style in the TTV framework which is almost irrelevant to the voice style. To increase the linguistic capacity of a semantic representation, a latent representation is fed to the phoneme encoder, and the connectionist temporal classification (CTC) loss is minimized. We found that this could improve text speech alignment by significantly decreasing the CER and WER of synthetic speech. We noticed that BioMistral-7B generated empty outputs in 100% of the cases regardless of the specific settings, while Meta-Llama-3-8B exhibits this behaviour for ZS settings in both tasks. We attribute this observation to safety mechanisms applied during pre-training Labrak et al. [2024], suggesting that domain-specific knowledge about human genome pathways is absent in both models. Similarly, Mistral-7B-v0.1 responses simply repeat the prompt text in 88% of the cases in the ZS settings, and 69% of the cases in FS (Table 1). Moreover, CoT outputs including phrases like e.g. "A nice logical puzzle! Let’s break it down step by step..." were particularly common for Meta-Llama-3-8B Instruct, which often ignored the specific instructions to address the task. This behaviour highlights potential biases introduced during instruction-tuning which make the models unable to generalise to domains that are out-of-distribution of the training set. Authors:

Canonical Representations and Computation in SPD Matrices

Speculative decoding is an advanced AI inference technique that is gaining traction in natural language processing (NLP) and other sequence generation tasks. It addresses one of the most significant challenges in deploying large-scale models: balancing computational efficiency with the quality of generated outputs. Models like GPT-3 and GPT-4 have set new benchmarks in AI capability but are computationally expensive, especially for real-time applications such as chatbots, translation systems, and interactive assistants. Speculative decoding offers a clever solution by introducing a two-model system: a smaller, faster draft model and a larger, more accurate target model. This approach reduces latency without compromising the quality of the generated sequences. At its core, speculative decoding is a two-step process. First, a lightweight draft model generates a sequence of tokens quickly. This model is typically a distilled version of the target model or another smaller model trained for speed. The draft model's output is not final but serves as a proposal. The second step involves the larger, more accurate target model, which evaluates the draft model’s tokens. The target model either accepts the proposed tokens if they meet a confidence threshold or refines them if they do not. This process allows the system to leverage the efficiency of the draft model while maintaining the precision of the target model. The reason speculative decoding is particularly appealing lies in its ability to reduce the computational burden of the larger model. By delegating the initial token generation to the draft model, the target model operates selectively, focusing only on validation or correction rather than generating every token from scratch. This division of labor significantly reduces inference latency and resource consumption, making it a preferred technique for real-time applications. The technique works well in scenarios where speed is critical, and the quality of generated outputs cannot be compromised. For instance, in chat-based applications, users expect near-instantaneous responses. Speculative decoding ensures that the system generates text quickly while retaining the nuanced understanding of the larger model. Similarly, in real-time translation systems, where delays can disrupt communication, speculative decoding provides a practical way to meet latency constraints. To understand speculative decoding more concretely, let us consider a code implementation. As we realized that organizations with ever more resources were developing source language models, we decided to pivot our effort away from training increasingly capable models and towards providing easy access to the plethora of models being produced by the open source community. Practically, this meant spending our time compressing open source models for use on commodity hardware, providing stable and simple high level model APIs, and supporting a GUI for no code model experimentation. This growth was supported by an in-person hackathon hosted in New York City three days after the model release, which attracted several hundred participants. As the Nomic discord, the home of online discussion about GPT4All, ballooned to over 10000 people, one thing became very clear - there was massive demand for a model that could be used commercially. The LLaMA model that GPT4All was based on was licensed for research only, which severely limited the set of domains that GPT4All could be applied in. As a response to this, the Nomic team repeated the model training procedure of the original GPT4All model, but based on the already open source and commercially licensed GPT-J model (Wang and Komatsuzaki, 2021). GPT4All-J also had an augmented training set, which contained multi-turn QA examples and creative writing such as poetry, rap, and short stories. The creative writing prompts were generated by filling in schemas such as "Write a [CREATIVE STORY TYPE] about [NOUN] in the style of [PERSON]." We again employed Atlas to curate the prompt-response pairs in this data set. Our evaluation methodology also evolved as the project grew. In particular, we began evaluating GPT4All models using a suite of seven reasoning tasks that were used for evaluation of the Databricks Dolly (Conover et al., 2023b) model, which was released on April 12, 2023. Unfortunately, GPT4All-J did not outperform other prominent open source models on this evaluation. As a result, we endeavoured to create a model that did. Following the approach in Stanford Alpaca (Taori et al., 2023), an open source LLaMA variant that came just before GPT4All, we focused substantial effort on dataset curation. The collected dataset was loaded into Atlas (AI, 2023)—a visual interface for exploring and tagging massive unstructured datasets —for data curation. Using AtarXiv:2311.04931v1 [cs.CL] 6 Nov 2023 las, we identified and removed subsets of the data where GPT-3.5-Turbo refused to respond, had malformed output, or produced a very short response. This resulted in the removal of the entire Bigscience/P3 subset of our data, as many P3 prompts induced responses that were simply one word.
