It was February 24, 2022, when Russia began its brutal attack on Ukraine. The Ukrainian people were caught off guard, with little to no time to escape the violence that had erupted throughout the country. He collapsed, and the next thing he remembered was a room with white walls that turned out to be a medical ward in Kyiv. Here reality crashed down on him in full force – his leg had to be amputated. He was heartbroken and lost hope for his future. Meanwhile, Daryna, a QA engineer from Lviv, bravely ventured off to the front lines as a volunteer, delivering supplies such as food, first aid kits, and military equipment. While going on these humanitarian missions, she was deeply impacted by the atrocities she experienced. Planes roared overhead while explosions echoed through trenches filled with soldiers – just like something out of a movie scene but much more real than ever! Besides Russian bombs, Daryna and her fellow volunteers also faced a much different type of enemy – exhaustion, fear, and despair. Alex had been working remotely as an AI software engineer from his home in Odesa when the war broke out. His job was to help a US-based gaming studio build new features for their best-selling AI game. Still, he knew he couldn't just sit by and do nothing once the full-on invasion began. While keeping his full-time job, he joined and dedicated all his spare time to undermining Russia's cyber infrastructure, hacking their sites and fake news resources, and fighting back Russian cyber attacks. Ukraine's IT Army The months went by as Alex completed mission after mission, but one day in April, everything changed. A Russian missile struck his parents' house, just a stone's throw away from his own place; they were killed instantly. Distraught at his loss and filled with grief and anger, Alex wanted revenge. Without hesitation, he joined the Armed Forces. After a short military training at the base camp, he was sent to one of the most dangerous war zones near Kherson. There he faced unimaginable terror: he saw needless deaths of innocent civilians and children, watched as his comrades died on the battlefield, and could feel death breathing down his neck. Every day was a struggle for survival, but Alex persevered. He learned to rely on his teammates for strength and courage and worked hard to complete each mission. It wasn't long before tragedy struck: during an ambush, Alex got hit by shrapnel that damaged one of his eyes and left him partially blind. Bogdan, who was now dealing with immense physical and psychological trauma, had a hard time coming to terms with his disability. On top of that, the phantom pain was becoming too much to bear. That's when he heard about AI technology being implemented in Germany to help military amputees get back to normal. Seeing no other option, Bogdan decided to give it a try. The doctors at the medical center in Berlin presented him with an AI-powered prosthesis that featured motion sensors. These sensors allowed continuous real-time feedback to be sent to an AI algorithm, which then adjusted the stimulation level needed to block out phantom pain signals from his missing limb. With this technology, Bogdan was able to finally get some relief and move on with his life. After returning home, Daryna found herself in a spiral of anxiety and depression due to her PTSD. She was advised to participate in an experimental program and have virtual sessions with an AI therapist in combination with traditional therapies. AI simulated a human counseling session like no other. It was extremely supportive and understanding, making Daryna feel safe to open up and talk about her experiences and nightmares. During these sessions, an avatar of a woman listened to the content of her speech and scanned her facial expressions, tone, and voice for cues that hint at meanings beyond speech. Ultimately, the AI was able to accurately diagnose Daryna's condition and suggest effective treatments. With this innovative technology, Daryna slowly but surely began to heal from the trauma caused by war. Although she still struggles with bad memories from time to time, she developed better strategies to cope with them by recognizing her triggers and managing stress more flexibly. Desperate to restore some normalcy back into his life, Alex resorted to using Artificial Intelligence technology again – this time to help improve his life quality with tasks such as reading text or identifying objects around him without having full sight. Through a former customer from America whom he still kept contact with, Alex got connected with the robotics startup there, which sent him a prototype version of their breakthrough product –a robotic arm designed specifically for people who have lost partial vision due to illness or injury just like himself. The AI-based robotic arm utilizes motion tracking, object and voice recognition, natural language processing, and other computer vision technologies to assist users with visual impairments. It can easily identify objects in its environment by using a camera or laser rangefinder. It also uses speech recognition software and NLP to interpret spoken commands from its user and execute them accordingly. The robot has multiple control modes, including a joystick, touchpad, speech commands, hand gestures, head movements, or even eye movements via an eye-tracking system. Moreover, the robotic arm has many advanced features, such as tactile feedback, allowing Alex to feel vibrations when touching particular objects. Alex uses it for daily activities like cooking, computer typing, and chores. It also helps him explore his environment more effectively, as he can use it to detect obstacles on his way and navigate around them safely. His experiments with AI didn't end there. Volunteers helped him get another gimmick from abroad – AI-enabled smart glasses that could help him see better. The glasses have an array of cameras that capture the environment and then stream the data to powerful AI algorithms, which detect objects in a user's field of view and highlight them with a special color or pattern. Thanks to this technology, Alex can now make out shapes and read the small text again—a blessing for someone who had spent months living in darkness. Alex may not have regained his full sight, but he was able to chip away at the limitations of his disability with the help of AI. He has since become an advocate for the use of AI in post-war rehabilitation, tirelessly campaigning to bring this technology to more war veterans in Ukraine. These three stories show how advances in AI can be used to improve lives and mitigate disabilities caused by war traumas. NFTs: How They'll Help Us Move Forward and Rebuild

TRAFFIC AND REBUILDING The London traffic problem is just one of those questions that appeal very strongly to the more prevalent and less charitable types of English mind. It has a practical and constructive air, it deals with impressively enormous amounts of tangible property, it rests with a comforting effect of solidity upon assumptions that are at once doubtful and desirable. It seems free from metaphysical considerations, and it has none of those disconcerting personal applications, those penetrations towards intimate qualities, that makes eugenics, for example, faintly but persistently uncomfortable. It is indeed an ideal problem for a healthy, hopeful, and progressive middle-aged public man. And, as I say, it deals with enormous amounts of tangible property. Like all really serious and respectable British problems it has to be handled gently to prevent its coming to pieces in the gift. It is safest in charge of the expert, that wonderful last gift of time. He will talk rapidly about congestion, long-felt wants, low efficiency, economy, and get you into his building and rebuilding schemes with the minimum of doubt and head-swimming. He is like a good Hendon pilot. Unspecialised writers have the destructive analytical touch. They pull the wrong levers. Such a scheme would not only release almost all the vast area of London now under railway yards for parks and housing, but it would give nearly every delivery van an effective load, and probably reduce the number of standing and empty vans or half-empty vans on the streets of London to a quarter or an eighth of the present number. Mostly these are heavy horse vans, and their disappearance would greatly facilitate the conversion of the road surfaces to the hard and even texture needed for horseless traffic. But that is a scheme too comprehensive and rational for the ordinary student of the London traffic problem, whose mind runs for the most part on costly and devastating rearrangements of the existing roadways. Moreover, it would probably secure a maximum of effect with a minimum of property manipulation; always an undesirable consideration in practical politics. And it would commit London and England to goods transit by railway for another century. Far more attractive to the expert advisers of our various municipal authorities are such projects as a new Thames bridge scheme, which will (with incalculable results) inject a new stream of traffic into Saint Paul's Churchyard; and the removal of Charing Cross Station to the south side of the river. Then, again, we have the systematic widening of various thoroughfares, the shunting of tramways into traffic streams, and many amusing, expensive, and interesting tunnellings and clearances. Taken together, these huge reconstructions of London are incoherent and conflicting; each is based on its own assumptions and separate "expert" advice, and the resulting new opening plays its part in the general circulation as duct or aspirator, often with the most surprising results. The discussion of the London traffic problem as we practise it in our clubs is essentially the sage turning over and over again of such fragmentary schemes, headshakings over the vacant sites about Aldwych and the Strand, brilliant petty suggestions and—dispersal. Meanwhile the experts intrigue; one partial plan after another gets itself accepted, this and that ancient landmark perish, builders grow rich, and architects infamous, and some Tower Bridge horror, some vulgarity of the Automobile Club type, some Buckingham Palace atrocity, some Regent Street stupidity, some such cramped and thwarted thing as that new arch which gives upon Charing Cross is added to the confusion. I do not see any reason to suppose that this continuous muddle of partial destruction and partial rebuilding is not to constitute the future history of London. Let us, however, drop the expert methods and handle this question rather more rudely. Do we want London rebuilt? If we do, is there, after all, any reason why we should rebuild it on its present site? London is where it is for reasons that have long ceased to be valid; it grew there, it has accumulated associations, an immense tradition, that this constant mucking about of builders and architects is destroying almost as effectually as removal to a new site. The old sort of rebuilding was a natural and picturesque process, house by house, and street by street, a thing as pleasing and almost as natural in effect as the spreading and interlacing of trees; as this new building, this clearance of areas, the piercing of avenues, becomes more comprehensive, it becomes less reasonable. If we can do such big things we may surely attempt bigger things, so that whether we want to plan a new capital or preserve the old, it comes at last to the same thing, that it is unreasonable to be constantly pulling down the London we have and putting it up again. Let us drain away our heavy traffic into tunnels, set up that clearing-house plan, and control the growth at the periphery, which is still so witless and ugly, and, save for the manifest tidying and preserving that is needed, begin to leave the central parts of London, which are extremely interesting even where they are not quite beautiful, in peace. Source:  Daniel Larimer The story of the Tower of Babel is the best metaphor for the fragmentation of the world since the pandemic. Serious problems have cropped up between countries. We lose trust, fail to recognize the same truths, and cut ourselves off from each other and the past. For a long time, most people have been coy about cryptocurrency's encroachment on real power systems. It was not until the Russia-Ukraine War that the DAO was directly elevated to the status of national strategic organization, which also meant that the social and political experiments based on DAO were no longer castles in the air in the ideological sense, but actually entered into the practice of decentralized governance. In this paper, we will explore the possibility of productivity liberation and production relations optimization from the perspective of social consensus and proof of physical work. Look for colonial incentives Every bull market has a new growth narrative. The next cycle is bound to see many countries trying to establish new forms of violent institutions and new international economic organizations. DAOs in the decentralized sovereign category are more like national experiments. The tokenomics of cryptocurrency defines the distribution laws of the country on a macro level, while also defining the rights and obligations of its citizens on a micro level. It no longer needs to be demonstrated that bad monetary policy can wreck a country's economy. From the perspective of international law, people, territory, government, and sovereignty constitute the key elements of a sovereign state. Judging from the development of DAO today, DAO has already taken the embryonic form of a sovereign state. Mainly reflected in the following two points: This is the basis of sovereignty, coordinating the exchange of benefits according to rules written into the code of the smart contract. Ethereum is the most typical value protocol. Tokens are universally recognized and enforceable units of value, including governance tokens representing voting rights, DeFi tokens representing fiscal rights, NFTs representing the sanctity of private property rights, and security tokens representing mapping the real physical world. All of these tokens operate as code, meaning that the distribution of power should follow programmable logic. - Protocols and tokens: These are groups organized around government affairs, that is, the government in general. Allocation relationships are coordinated through sharing rules enforced on the blockchain. If DAOs and protocol tokens can establish good engagement and interconnected value networks in the ecosystem, new forms of digital organizations and states may emerge. - DAOs: Source: Andy Martin, IBM We need to understand how value is created in newly sovereign states because the sustainability of value creation and the moat of governance determine the number of citizens. Similarly, creators of sovereign DAOs must understand the investor perspective to focus most of the DAO's resources on core assets that improve the sovereign value and encourage members to contribute ideas from the bottom up. It is challenging for protocols and DAOs to keep similar companies efficient and profitable and to include token holders in sovereign governance decisions. There is a misconception that token holders should not enjoy too much of the value of the agreed income. This is classic web2 exploitative thinking. Citizens in the Web3 era enjoy absolute data ownership, which not only means that a richer application ecosystem can flourish through growing user interactions, but also that sources of power and value accumulation can be transferred completely freely. Mature DeFi protocols currently look most likely to be transformed into successful sovereign DAOs. These protocols have steadily growing cash flows and ample treasuries. They offer a variety of financial products, from lending to structured products, in addition to the fees charged by the core DEX (decentralized exchange). DeFi is therefore the most prosperous colony in the digital world. The DAO, as the coordinator of the exchange of colonial interests, creates more value through the open construction of applications within the ecosystem, captures more value through tokens, and establishes token-driven network effects. Avoid the Illusion of Power Blockchain protocols are expected to replace the constitutions and governing laws of nation-states, and since DAO participants are citizens of the network, they must be subject to cyber laws and policies. As a government, DAO also needs to establish governance rules, a legal system, an organizational structure of power balance, and high-quality public products and services. Cryptocurrencies have raced through millennia of human simulations of social governance in a few years, and experiments that bring different power systems around the world to the blockchain at Internet speed are bound to experience similar growing pains. The biggest mistake of all would be the failure of the project founders to abide by the basic principles of economics and to believe in the illusion of power derived from the short-term token boom. The determinants of the  value of DAO are: 1. Sustainability of the underlying ecosystem. 2. The long-term intrinsic utility of tokens in the ecosystem. The traditional nation-state aims to increase productivity and build a competitive advantage to achieve the long-term utility of population, trade, and monetary policies. Developed countries are rich because the government is more of an inclusive economic institution. Countries with so-called "inclusive politics" expand individual political power and property rights as widely as possible, and this is their growth engine. By contrast, if power is held by a small elite, wealth either fails to grow for long or gradually falls into a debt crisis after a brief economic expansion. We should take these lessons seriously when designing sovereign DAOs. From a development economics perspective, the network of decentralized political and economic power fits well with the design of blockchain. The value of a blockchain network is largely determined by the "resource endowment" and the national demand for goods and services, which we call block space and Gas. At this point, the similarities in power structure between DAO and the state are obvious. Start from the proof of physical work One of the most powerful features of DAOs is their ability to create colonial-like social incentive structures that allow anyone in the world to contribute to a set of governance goals without permission, and that can be frictionless and fine-tuned to facilitate large-scale inter-state coordination. These innovations link the digital and physical worlds through the token economy, known as "proof of physical work." Projects that conform to this theory motivate people to perform verifiable physical work to build the infrastructure of the physical world. One of the most notable projects is Helium and STEPN. Taking the Russia-Ukraine War as an example, the biggest feature of this war lies in the asymmetric game between the two sides' intelligence systems. The Ukrainian government directly introduced the proof of physical work mode into intelligence warfare and realized the real decentralized dimensionality reduction. Mykhailo Fedorov, who heads the digital transformation ministry of Ukraine, has proposed a project called "Smartphone Nation." Using social media as its main front, Ukraine's digital authorities have developed an intelligence App that combines technology, hacking, cryptocurrencies and the power of public opinion to provide a "find the enemy" feature -- every resident using the App can photograph and upload information about the enemy and provide a location whenever and wherever they want. Sourced ideas for crowdsourced apps can hardly be attributed to DAO. The intelligence information collected by residents is sent to soldiers on the front line through another App, which constitutes a clear "battle order". Ukrainian soldiers who receive these "battle orders" can quickly complete their missions. This governance thinking, which explicitly uses decentralized products and distributed concepts in the state apparatus, approaches the government as one of many DAOs for producing goods and services. But you cannot deny that DAO can be an option for a nation's digital transformation, even during wartime. Physical work proves that citizens have direct control over the machinery of violence. If the government that controls violence were in ideal shape, it would not take protection money. But in reality, the organization of commercial activities that charge "protection money" is not controlled by both producers and consumers, so it will not serve consumers by maximizing the quality of service and reducing the price charged to the greatest extent. For them, scalability is more important than maximizing profit. Think of most governments as a sort of hybrid organization; the payments that citizens make to these governments are the prices they have to pay to avoid more serious losses. If the DAO charges significantly less protection money than the government and can provide all the public services you need without even charging protection money, how will you choose? In the world of cryptocurrency, cyber citizenship is almost defined by decentralized tokens, meaning that the cost of digital migration for users is almost zero. As long as you hold the token, you are a citizen of the protocol. That's why we're seeing Web3 reputation systems like Station and social graph protocols like Lens grow in popularity because it's easier to get onto a new DAO than it is to get into the U.S. One person may be an active citizen of dozens of DAOs, which will greatly contribute to thriving international trade among DAOs and even solve the impossible triangle in international trade, which you can read more about . here Where should we go? First, a successful sovereign DAO should have the following three components: 1. Network incentive model (liquidity source); 2.Community engagement (value interaction); 3. Adequate decentralization (governance capacity); As proof of physical work mechanisms is refined, many components of DAO activities, including frictional costs and computational rules in production and trading activities, will be replaced by hardware machines and smart contracts. This is why DeFi is the first application direction for sovereign DAOs to break out. In summary, the primary goal of DAOs is to attract and retain high-quality digital citizens, thereby attracting sustainable demand and adding value to the network. Of course, the success of a country is more complex than the token economy and DAO governance design. But there is no doubt that DAOs provide builders with a much richer toolbox than traditional states. Anything in a legal document or monetary policy can run on the blockchain. StepN is a move-to-earn application built on Solana. Its success lies in building rich economic models, vibrant in-app activities, and vibrant cross-chain interactions. I think they could try new governance models that not only reward token holders for ownership but also think about rewarding people for participation and contribution. If there is a major innovation in their governance paradigm, I believe this model based on economic governance can be extended to outer space colonies. Nation3 had a more specific goal, creating a community designed to provide services similar to nation-state services, such as money, education, health care, and so on. The project hopes to build a fair nation of encryption on the cloud. Their unique "union + proposal + Dework + community members" model is working, and it is still cash flow issues that affect the development of the project. Because building a Web3 country often seems like a grand narrative rather than a clear source of cash flow for Web3 apps. Therefore, such projects should still prioritize the operation of Treasury assets and the value interaction with DeFi assets. The construction of a national DAO should start from the following points; - Territory is not necessary for a cloud state, but it must have the ability to protect its citizens, which means it can skip the territory and run the machine of violence, but there is no new exploration mode for this track; - Government is the institution that keeps society functioning. DAO amounts to suggesting an efficient and equitable governance mechanism and a functioning social system, which is very difficult to balance; - Physical proof of work mechanisms that meet the interface needs of digital citizens and the real world. These interfaces need to include a currency exchange interface, physical authentication interface, and physical transaction interface. This is an era of confusion and injustice, but it is also an era of reflection and reset. On a longer timescale, the order of magnitude and opportunities for Web3 countries will be much greater than they are today. DAOs can structure any current economy and governance pattern through programmable currencies, code-based laws, and composability. Of course, there are plenty of problems, including decentralized decisions that tend to be inefficient, code errors that lead to money being stolen, and so on. But when we stop focusing on dysfunctional, centralized government and talk directly to DAO members, we are already transforming ourselves and society.

My adventure in healthcare started in 2011 when, with a friend of mine, I founded a company that is now called SkinVision, a skin cancer screening app. I was responsible for product and research so that is where I’ve gathered most of my experience in healthcare and got a first hand view of the challenges. What's your startup called? And in a sentence or two, what does it do? Medicai is the name of the startup and it is a web based medical imaging platform that changes the way doctors and patients coordinate care, especially for chronic or rare conditions that require handling of complex medical data - i.e. imaging, digital pathology etc What is the origin story? In 2018 I wanted to do something else after I left my first company. I gathered a team made up of people I worked with in the past and we started exploring. We have experience in computer vision and AI so medical imaging made sense but when we started talking to stakeholders we realised we were surrounded by CDs (which don’t really mix with AI). We started looking into why this is still happening and realised we could make a big difference by changing the way doctors and patients interact. The question actually is: how would interactions between doctors and patients change if had an online tool that allows instant collaboration on those “data sets” - i.e. what if, as a patient, I could view/edit my MRI scan together with my doctor directly online? What do you love about your team, and why are you the ones to solve this problem? I feel we have reached a point where everyone is aligned in doing what is best for the company and we can now focus on that. I believe culture is crucial and we managed to create an open and inclusive environment that can help us build to last. If you weren’t building your startup, what would you be doing? Building another startup? At the moment, how do you measure success? What are your core metrics? We are still very much in the product building phase so we measure engagement and usage. We want a great product so we focus on what our users want and need. Any KPI that can help us better understand what our users want/need is important so DAU/MAU, time spent on avg. -  that type of thing What’s most exciting about your traction to date? We see a lot of doctors using the platform every day for multiple hours. Doctors are notoriously difficult to convert and that’s why we’re pretty happy about it. On top, we have a real chance of changing things in a very important field to many people What technologies are you currently most excited about, and most worried about? And why? We focus on AI and we strongly believe it will change a lot of things in healthcare but also that we are not there yet. IoT devices can automate accurate data collection, blockchain technology can secure the wealth of data in an immutable ledger, and AI tools can comb that data for insights that companies can then publicize to deliver on consumer transparency expectations.
