There are Quora writers who have tens of millions of new views every month. But, here’s the thing. I wrote 301 answers and I asked 229 questions. I’m not ashamed nor do I regret a single letter my name is associated with on Quora. It’s not only about , but , first and foremost. quality over quantity relevance Out of pure curiosity, I paid quick visits to a couple of times. What a disappointment! Their answers with the highest number of views and upvotes are not only trivial, but totally irrelevant when compared to their profiles. The is a lousy excuse that no serious business player or growth marketer would buy. “Quora millionaires” “diversity of interests” If views and upvotes are the most important thing for you on Quora, then that’s exactly what you’re going to get. I’m a helpless believer in the power of evergreen content, but let me tell you something, Quora ain’t no vegan. It’s a content-thirsty beast you have to feed daily with new, big, and juicy answers. The same applies to Quora Spaces. I conducted an experiment or two on Quora. I was naive to believe that you can keep the content pedal to the Quora metal for a few weeks and months, then rely on the Quora “autopilot” mode for an easy growth marketing ride. You can clearly see when I was writing, and when the “pause button” was on my Quora profile: The moral of this Quora Growth Marketing Commandment couldn’t be more obvious. How to Market on Quora Effectively in 2022

Welcome to this exciting interview series " ", where we will be talking to small business and startup leaders about how they came up with an idea, difficulties they faced, how they got through difficult situations, what was their inspiration, what advice would they give to wannabe entrepreneurs, what keeps them motivated, and on and on. Monday Mornings with Entrepreneurs For the first interview of this series, we have with us Piotr Michalak who believes that his startup is going to outperform Wikipedia. So before starting your morning, pause for a coffee break ;) and enjoy this chit-chat with Piotr. Please tell our readers a bit about how you perceive success? Hello guys, and thank you for having me. Ever since my youngest days, I noticed people, e.g. my parents, work hard for little to no results, even lose their money, health, and happiness. Piotr: When I started doing business 16 years ago, I noticed no correlation between hours put into work and my accomplishments. It's not about how much you do, but if you do the right things and in the right way. That's when you realise that you need to be a wise and not just an educated person. So you may have noticed that it's more and more popular to complain about the current post-Prussian education system and how it doesn't prepare us for everyday life: day to day decision making, planning your life, finding your purpose, or even specific things like investing, building a house and solving marriage problems. "Success is not about what information you read on Wikipedia and learn at school." Do you think we live in the information era? Researchers say that the information era ended around the dot com burst around the year 2000, that is pre-iPhone (lol). Piotr: They say that we live in the knowledge age. So people who have the know-how to do specific things gain a competitive edge. But the wisdom age is coming up soon, and it's the wisest, not most educated, people that will win on each and every market and in life. Steve Jobs didn't have a better know-how of computer manufacturing. Still, he made sometimes wiser decisions (and sometimes not), and that's what really mattered for Apple and where it is today. But where is Google in this puzzle? It is still only useful while searching for information. You can't ask Google for an opinion or advice. Only other people can answer you. Piotr: It's people who create content, not Google. There is no place that would aggregate some more complicated questions and categorise them to help make this content evergreen and work for people worldwide via automated and curated translations. Quora and others don't do this either but generate even more online facebook-like chaos. Thus a need for ccFOUND was born. If Google is a place to search for information, ccFOUND is a place to search for knowledge and wisdom. How and when was the idea for ccFOUND born? We have been working on it for years. The most important thing is to understand that we are building on the meta-trend of the Internet, moving from information into knowledge and then to wisdom sharing. Apart from that, we will help people around the world to communicate with each other by automatically translating every post into every other language, thus building the world's largest wisdom database. What's even more impressive - we will gradually decentralise, create a "company in the cloud", where everyone may be a virtual shareholder and earn money by simply holding our tokens-generating DAO Knowledge Currency. You think it's a very convincing vision. How convincing? Well, we gathered $1.35M just from our 270 private sale investors in 9 days. Piotr: How are you going to outperform Wikipedia? Wikipedia is organising encyclopedic information and knowledge. There is no place for opinions or controversy. There is no space for speculation or discussion. Piotr: As an expert, you have no way to build a community or monetise your experience. You are just an anonymous donor. However, Wikipedia is the most organised knowledge source on the Internet now. That's why we are inspired by it. However, ccFOUND fulfills an entirely different need. We create a place for opinion sharing, speculation, discussion, and gathering wisdom. What needs to be understood here is that wisdom only develops when you collide many different ideas and perspectives. ccFOUND is a place to do that, similarly to Quora, StackOverflow, and Yahoo Answers, but in a much more organised way. ccFound also allows people to build a community of followers and monetise their work once they ethically gain their trust. You know a lot of industries were disrupted by the pandemic,  but which sectors do you think thrived during COVID-19? Healthcare, medicine, and IT are pretty obvious. But the less obvious ones are investments. About , and it's even worse in the EU and other countries. Piotr: 20% of all US dollars were printed in just 2020 Hyperinflation glooms over every country. Everyone who knows anything about money wonders what the future will bring. People are afraid and looking for alternative investments to protect their life savings. That's where a place like ccFOUND emerges. First of all, this social media platform will focus first on investment advice. Secondly, it's an investment all in itself, offering passive tokens and an ecosystem that maximises the chance of this investment growing manifold. Shahmeer: Tell us two things that excite and worry you most about the tech revolution? I'm mainly focused on the Internet because of what we do at ccFOUND. I'm really worried about the attention-grabbing algorithms implemented by most social media nowadays. Piotr: The movie "The Social Dilemma" was all about how the Internet now is no longer for exchanging information and knowledge but about grabbing people's attention. It makes us addicted to the service and then just uses people as a product to sell to advertisers. There's nothing wrong with businesses making money. Still, the original service should and could serve something more than just the lowest human instincts. Obviously, people want and need to watch funny videos with cats, and I do that too. But people also want and like to help each other online; they like getting and giving advice. People want to build genuine relationships and reputation; social media's current state doesn't help much with that. We are building a platform that will put users and experts first, not by treating them like numbers in a database in a dehumanized manner. Talking about the tech revolution, What do you make of the recent crypto surge? We knew about it and were ready for it. Informed investors know that the crypto market moves in 4-year cycles connected to Bitcoin halving. We have created the biggest publishing house for crypto investments in Poland in the last 4 years, so we had access to the best analysts and experts beforehand. Piotr: One great side effect of it is that after ccFOUND's private sale, we collected $1.3M at first, then kept $1M of it after taxes. Still, now this capital grew to $1.75M thanks to crypto allocation. What about other people? I can only wish everybody to exit at the right moment and buy back even more at the upcoming bear market, which obviously won't be possible for everybody. Roughly speaking, for every person who generates a positive ROI, someone else has to lose money, which's the unfortunate nature of markets and life. But even if you lose now, there will be another bull market in several years. How do you keep yourself and your team motivated during these tough times? Unfortunately, it's not a tough time for us, although I sympathise with all the people that lost their jobs or companies… Our Polish cryptocurrency publishing house grew 4x y/y during COVID. Then ccFOUND generated $1.3M with just 4 webinars and in 2 weeks. Piotr: Thanks to this, we've built a new 20+ person company and are preparing for a $100M+ crowdfunding campaign. That was my greatest desire, to create a company with a professional management team first and do business the right way. We also have an excellent school for kids here, so we somehow manage through COVID. On the other hand, it's tough to hire great developers. The IT market is booming, and we compete for talents with the likes of Google, Apple, and Microsoft, which is not easy. Thankfully we have a superb CTO. So I can only sympathise with the less fortunate and… I create an ecosystem to help people. What was the best advice you ever received? And did you follow it? It was my first business mentor who taught me to build companies in an organised manner. Piotr: He told me - create products, offers, develop procedures and processes… When there's a fire in the company, it means there was no process beforehand to take care of it, so learn from this and create a set of rules on how we do things so it doesn't happen again… It took me three years to implement his advice because of how our minds work: each of us has some kind of modality of how we live and operate. Changing these automated thinking habits just takes time. It's a matter of information flowing from the cerebral cortex into the reptilian brain or the limbic system. It takes from 1 to 3 years on average. But once I started hiring people, building a team, setting up the organisational rules, I became a financially free person first and then created something more significant. What advice would you give to those looking to become successful leaders? Nowadays, I tend to believe that roughly 80% of a company's success is connected to what market you choose. By that, I mean the product you decide to create and sell, for whom and where. Piotr: That also means which problems you will solve for your customers or what needs dreams, and desires you are trying to fulfill. That also means you understand people, what they need, what they are afraid of, what they like or dislike… So you have heard this before, that you need to have the vision to make people follow you. But to have strong convictions, you need to really to empathise with great insight about what's currently wrong in the world or where the world is headed. That's what I also did in ccFOUND, after many months of research and preparation, created a vision that has attracted the greatest talents I have ever worked with! A lot of you would relate to this situation if you have been heavily dependent on social media for promoting your personal brand or business. Social media platforms are becoming more serious about user experience. One cannot just think of relying on social media alone. We already know Facebook wants to focus more on users than influencers and advertisers. Because for one advertiser moving away, there are two waiting in line to start running their campaigns. We cannot ignore them altogether, too. Because social media has millions of users. Instead, you can strategise and leverage the social media revolution to your benefit without relying on a specific platform. The keyword here is to ‘Build Long Term Trust’ and transition from a platform-based strategy to a holistic promotion plan where ‘organic reach’ matters more than ‘vanity metrics’ ORGANIC REACH > VANITY METRICS SUCH AS LIKES & FOLLOWERS If you relate to the philosophy here are two amazing platforms you can use differently to build authority and organic reach for your brand or business. Quora – The Underdog That’s Been Answering All Our Queries We all use Quora, right? For finding answers, to share our opinions or for research. Well, it is one of the largest user-generated repositories online. Many have failed to take it seriously till now. Most businesses and users think it’s pointless to answer questions. But think about it – inbound and content marketing strategies preach of understanding the users and addressing their pain points. What’s better way to kill both the birds with a single stone than Quora? Real people come to find their answers on Quora. If you manage to answer correctly, they would start seeing you as an authority in the domain. Leave alone the free source of referral traffic you’ll get in return for your blogs and website. I would say there is nothing better than Quora for creating as well as implementing a persona-driven content strategy. Want to know how to use Quora for finding your audience. Build a Profile (Human Profiles Would Give Better Results Than Corporate Profiles) Whenever you begin writing for a blog, research about user questions on Quora for the same topic Create your blog with user pain points in mind (the ones you gather from research) Once you publish your blog, get back to Quora to answer relevant questions Make sure never to deceive users into clicking your blog links embedded in posts. Rather, give full disclosures about your interest. If you’ve written the blog, say it. If you’re a marketer, tell them. Humans still love honesty. When you tell them what’s in for you in it, there are greater chances of them believing you. Trust me on this. What will you gain from all this? Two things. The first step to building a domain authority is to make others believe that you know your work. Secondly, if you time your answers well and offer value, you will get an evergreen traffic channel that keeps directing interested (warm) leads to your blog or resource for a lifetime. Please note that keyword stuffing, link spamming and all other black hat practices would get you banned from Quora. So, try to be helpful and see better results than being a robot who just wants more traffic. LinkedIn: More Than Just a Professional Network Do you still think of LinkedIn as just a static professional network? Well, you must be in for a surprise if you check it now. People have created empires just through their LinkedIn profiles. Check , , and . Brand Samosa bleWMinds MedSnake Media If you go behind these big names in their respective niche. You’ll observe one thing. Their founders have built their business while riding on the LinkedIn wave. You should know that LinkedIn has evolved from just a place to find jobs, to a thought leadership platform. Content creators, entrepreneurs, storytellers, and business owners who are into B2B services enjoy amazing advantages through LinkedIn. If you use LinkedIn nowadays, you’ll observe how everyone is into creating interesting posts or stories around their niche. Some post about their experiences, some about valuable growth hacks, some about their experiences. You’ll realize one thing from all these. Everyone who’s creating on LinkedIn is enjoying some kind of engaged following. The reason? Because people love to follow advice and enjoy personal connections with success stories in making. If you’re not active on LinkedIn, you’re bound to lose a huge pie. Why I say this? Because a large number of LinkedIn users are active decision makers in their organizations. Growing your visibility means more prospects coming your way. And the best part? LinkedIn is less competitive and more rewarding than other social media algorithms. If you find your niche, keep engaging with your target audience and keep adding value, you’ll enjoy amazing long-term advantages. How to Start on LinkedIn? First and foremost, think like a human and not a company. People enjoy ‘real connection’ not automated replies. Complete & optimize your personal profile to suit your industry. You can research a bit before getting it right. Start by connecting with only relevant connections. Just adding anyone to your connections would dilute the purpose of getting advantage of LinkedIn. Never pitch directly after you connect. Build a rapport by engaging with some posts, being visible, and exploring synergies. Start with value commenting on posts that talk about your industry. This is an important element of the LinkedIn strategy. Once you’re finished with an optimized profile and the confidence through engagement on comments, start posting on your own profile. Leverage storytelling practices to create a post. Start with an interesting hook, mix white space with value-oriented paragraphs and always make sure to add value to a reader’s life. Remember, are key elements here. If your posts are not relevant and your network is not receptive, there is no point of posting. relevance and receptivity What ‘NOT’ to do on LinkedIn? Never try to use LI connections for cold prospecting Never build your network through ‘SPAM’ posts that promise instant growth in network Don’t just make your profile a ‘one-way’ street. Instead, try to initiate meaningful conversations in everything you post – a comment or a post. Don’t share outward links (blogs/website) in your post section directly. Instead use comments section for sharing links. Don’t just give everything to your company page yet. First build valuable connections through your own (founder’s) profile. Never tag others mindlessly on posts. You’ll end up being despised. LinkedIn is not just a site for job seekers. Instead, if used correctly, it is a place to build a community that admires you. And it goes without saying that founders and entrepreneurs want to be admired by their target audience. So, if you’re not going big on LinkedIn, someone else would for sure. And that one could even be your competitor. Wrapping Up Everyone wants to grow their website traffic with minimal effort. The best way is definitely to go organic and think beyond Google Search results. Of late, Google has also been trying to offer an inclusive experience to searchers by trying to embed all information on results page, resulting in traffic reduction from organic means. What’s The Business Of Quora? It’s About Asking The Right Question

On the evening of October 13th, right around the time that was telling the Indy Powerkeg meetup to stop viewing their crypto-portfolios, I opened up Quora and saw this screen. Matt Hunckler Within 30 days of taking on a new discipline, one requiring daily writing and focusing on the basics, I grew my monthly Quora views from 300K to over 1M monthly views. I was absolutely stunned. Quora had already been a great channel for me before, but I never expected to grow to have one of the most view set of answer across Quora . Here’s a view of the most viewed writers in cryptocurrency as of December 13th. period I haven’t always been a content producer. About 18 months previous to this, I was primarily a developer, with an odd hobby of researching cryptocurrencies and writing about BI applications. No one at work particularly cared, but that was fine. I enjoyed it for what it was. But over time, this hobby eventually turned into a full time career, one where Quora and my other social channels became important to my business. In this article, I want to go over the things I did to start and eventually grow to +1M monthly views on Quora. In addition, I’ll go over some of the ways this has translated into my other social channels and how it has worked to influence my business. Everyone Starts from Nothing I originally joined Quora back in 2013 and then promptly decided to not use it for two years. Then, in January 2015, I decided to answer a few questions (you can see the blip under the ‘5’ in ‘2015’). I then decided to forget about Quora again. It wasn’t until mid-2016 when I decided I wanted to become a better writer. Writing was always something that had interested me, but not an activity I could integrate into my life. I had tried long form blogs before (like you’re reading now), but had never found a rhythm that worked. However, once I decided to write and re-discovered Quora, I realized the Q+A style felt intuitive. It reminded me of the old Q+A forums that LinkedIn used to have that I was quite fond of. So, Quora become the way I started writing. The next question was what should I write about? Many of the most popular writers on Quora tended to write about very broad categories, like Philosophy or Life Advice. While I considered doing this, breaking into those categories is quite challenging and something that takes a lot of reputation to pull off. I had none of this when I started, so that wasn’t an option. However, I did have one thing: I was a self-taught developer who used MOOC’s and online tutorials to move into a new career. The categories for these on Quora were tiny… but they were available. So, that’s where I started. I decided to write on Quora as a daily discipline, focusing on Business Intelligence, Big Data and MOOC’s. I set a goal to write four posts a day, every day, for a month. There was no expectation of success in the form of views, just the personal goal of hitting my four articles to become a better writer. From this experience of writing everyday came the first set of ‘optimizations’ in writing for Quora: I made Quora excessively available to me, on both my computer and my smartphone. I made Quora an app on the first screen of my iPhone, and made Quora the default tab whenever I opened chrome. It was nearly impossible for me to go a day with seeing Quora, making it very easy to answer questions. I tried a bunch of different strategies (aka stealing generously from other people’s format). I tried some long-form posts, some blogs, some very short/quick posts, some with bolded section, some with pictures, etc. By experimenting with a lot of formats, I got a sense of what worked and what didn’t. I just kept writing on a daily basis. After a while, it became so easy to open up the app and type out an answer that it became second nature. This became critical to the next stage of this process. Finding Cryptocurrency After writing for a few months, I had built up some new habit, but it didn’t build into anything substantial. This was fine, as my original goal was to just write for it’s own end. But eventually, I wanted to make something bigger… and it became clear that focusing on my MOOC/Dev niche wasn’t going to cut it. My first lucky break came in the form of a meetup. In January 2017, I had been learning about blockchain and cryptocurrency casually for about 12 months. When I was in NY for business, I learned about a blockchain meetup featuring Joseph Lubin (Founder of Ethereum and Consensys). I thought “Great, this will be the perfect opportunity to see how other entrepreneurs were working in the industry”. When I arrived, I was in a room with about 200 other entrepreneurs that were interested in learning about Ethereum. I spoke to a few other people before the event, but nobody knew a ton about blockchain, they were just there out of curiosity. When Joseph started talking, he asked a question “How many people own Ethereum?” I rose my hand… with about a dozen other people. That shocked me… how could a room full of people interested in hearing from Joseph Lubin not be that invested in Ethereum? After the event concluded, I spent some time talking to the other attendees and realized that the only people who seemed to have a better grasp of the technology than me were working at Consensys. So by altering my habits I had built to write about Business Intelligence and Online Course, I started focusing on writing about Ethereum. Within about two or three weeks of starting, I had already doubled my daily volume of activity, consistently getting over a couple thousand views a day. During this period, I did not significantly change the quality of my content… that would have been too big of a jump. Instead, I used what I had learned over the last six months and shifted focus, learning how to write about a new subject. Within about three months, I had become one of the top writers among Blockchain, Bitcoin, Ethereum and Cryptocurrency, back when the top writers in those subjects were consistently <100,000 views over 30 days. After this, it was time to expand. Brand Building and Networking During this time, I had started to create a brand to start capitalizing on the position I was able to get with Quora. This was not effective for a couple of reasons: Quora posts tend to be a very closed-looped (so much so that they don’t register a link reference in Google Analytics), so posting an article leads to very low conversion. I’ve heard multiple stories of people getting banned for a week due to posting an article (likely due to ‘undisclosed promotion’). This has never personally happened to me, but the stories were enough to stop me from messing with this strategy for too long. Posting articles from Hivergent on Quora never panned out. However, we were able to include links to Hivergent in my personal profile, which allowed people to find our site. Since we’ve optimized this, people have consistently come to the website and signed up for the newsletter. Not as many as we would have hoped, but it’s a channel we rely on. The most useful technique I have found for using Quora is through networking and building relationships. Today, this is the primary way Quora helps build Hivergent’s business. When people follow you, you have the option to directly message them. I have personally sent hundreds of messages through this medium, and it has been the best way for me to connect with people personally. The best, most engaged users have come through this medium, and has resulted in things like: Opportunities to teach classes and write books on various subjects Meeting with entrepreneurs in the blockchain space, who need everything from consulting to additional connections Writers looking for opportunities to write for Hivergent Investors looking for coaching Speaking opportunities Building this sort of networking and getting consistent results requires a large reach, but you can augment this by taking the first step forward and reaching out to people and asking how you can help. All of my current networking and dealings have come from this willingness to reach out, and now Quora is become my best way of accomplishing this. Pouring Gasoline on the Fire While I was able to find early success in Quora and my website, all of this was done while maintaining my job as a developer. Cryptocurrency was a fascination of mine, and one that was starting to take up more and more of my time, but I was still working a full time job in New York. However, in September of this year, that changed. After realizing all the energy that was coming from this industry and and opportunity to capitalize on it, I left my job to pursue this full time. Leaving my position didn’t leave a void… my nights and weekends just switched to my days and work continued as normal. This is when things started to get more serious, with a larger focus on my social brand as a critical component to my business. Given how important Quora was, I decided to do some more research and experimenting to understand what the algorithm was looking for. Here are some of the high level things that were important to being successful: You need to post consistently (multiple times daily) in order to stay relevant in the algorithm. You need to focus on questions that have a low answer/follower ratio. You need to focus on only a few topics (no shotgun approach) You need to pick questions from the answer feed in each topic you want to dominate. You need to include several ‘section headings’ or bolded lines to draw people’s attention. You need a picture. And not just that, but pictures with people’s faces. I’ve tested this over hundreds of posts and this is one thing that consistently helps with engagement. After this research, it was time to put this into practice in a consistent way. For 30 days, I would make sure to follow these principles and post daily. Not necessarily looking for a specific result, but continually doing these things everyday, even on other people’s ‘off’ days. What would be the result if I could keep this up for the full 30 days? The Result After implementing this, I had an opportunity to post on Thanksgiving. After using some of the methods mentioned above, I answered this question: I felt I had an interesting insight here, but then again I feel a lot of my answers are ‘interesting’. So overall, I didn’t expect anything huge. Will Ethereum crash again in the near future? By posting every day, I had already put myself in the good graces of “the Algorithm”, so I had momentum. Couple that with the fact that most people who write on Quora don’t write on holidays, but audience members still on holidays, and I hit a sweet spot. Within 24 hours, that single answer had garnered over 20,000 views and 80+ upvotes, resulting in the biggest single day spike I’ve ever received. read After this point, I just continued posting and, with the growth of the cryptocurrency industry and the attention that brought, the rest took care of itself. Despite only implementing this strategy for 22 days, I had reached 1 million views. For the first time, more messages and questions werecoming to me than I was sending out, expanding beyond Quora and going to my website and my other social profiles. The work was paying off. A Few Surprising Things I Learned About Quora During This Time Despite being penalized for not posting daily, the most viewed content for this period was rarely ‘new’ content. In the screenshot below, you can see which content is ‘New’ and which is evergreen. Evergreen content is the most viewed. You can also see examples of questions below that and how some continually get activity, while other fizzle, even ‘big’ questions. All Answers What is it like to be a Bitcoin Millionaire? Will Ethereum Crash Again in the Near Future? Which one is the better investment, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin or Ripple? What might happen to Ethereum after Bitcoin Crashes? In growing categories like blockchain technology, you will get penalized for not posting consistently. In some categories, evergreen might be able to keep your content relevant, but considering the number of people posting about Bitcoin and Blockchain, missing a day means someone else’s content is getting distributed by the algorithm. You can see how content completely stalls in October a couple of times when I decided not to post, and then the subsequent ‘jumps’ that happen when i get back on. It’s very easy to get kicked off the top as the ‘top’ writer. A month ago, an entrepreneur named John Young to improve his brand. Within days, he was the top person on the Bitcoin top writers. This happens all the time. If Vitalik Buterin decided to get on Quora and do a Q+A, even just one, he would be the top writer for the next 30 days. Focusing on being the ‘top’ is a losing strategy, but you can become of the top writers in a category. wrote this article about using content marketing one Each channel has it’s own way of communicating, and moving to another medium is like starting over. One personal example: I have been posting daily on LinkedIn for about three months, trying to figure out the medium. The most successful posts I have will only reach 1,500 views max with minimal engagement. Compare that to , which received ~50K views, 200+ upvotes and a ton of comments. The experience on Quora helps (I’m now connected with many of my Quora followers elsewhere), but not nearly as much as one would expect. my recent Quora post on James Altucher’s new masterclass Moving Forward I’m very grateful for everything that has happened, but there’s a lot of work to still be done. But Quora has given me something that I’ve never had before in my career: pervasive credibility. I’ve been networking for years and, when you’re an unknown, you’re always fighting for credibility. People you talk to don’t know you from a stranger on the street, so you’re constantly proving yourself. You can do it, but it’s a long process you always repeat from square one. By consistently writing great content and reaching a wide audience, you build credibility with people you’ve never met. When you eventually do meet, instead of talking about what you bring to the table, you jump immediately to solving problems and making things happen. And that’s where I’ve always wanted to be.
