A complete and dedicated tutorial is also available within the tutorials chapter[3] of the manual. Three of the images produced in the tutorial (as of version 0.21) are displayed in Figure 1. The left image shows the exposure map that is produced from a five-point, “+”-shaped set of pointings on the sky, with one pointing in the center and four on the outer extents. The middle image uses one of the hooks that are available within the script to produce a noisy image and not an exposure map. This hook can also be used to insert simulated/real objects. The right image shows how another hook can be used to account for trimming of the outer edges (which sometimes do not get exposed enough due to vignetting). This hook can also be used to insert any random area of bad pixels or to simulate persistence in near infra-red detectors (these can be large). For its processing, this script needs two input files: 1) a table containing the RA and Dec of each pointing, 2) a FITS image from the camera that the dither pattern is meant for. The image has to contain the celestial world coordinate system (WCS, see Calabretta & Greisen 2002) headers. After completing the observations, when the science topic does not depend on the time of observation, we stack those single exposures into one deep stacked image (also known as coadd). Designing the strategy to take those single exposures is therefore a very important aspect of planning an astronomical observation. Each exposure has a pointing (the location on the sky that it was targeting). Subsequent exposures are usually taken with different pointings. When the next pointing is ver near (a small fraction of the field of view) to the previous one, it is known as a dither (literally/generally meaning trembling or vibration). But when the distance between subsequent pointings is large (and issues like re-focusing become necessary), the pointing is known as an offset. These terms are sometimes used interchangably by some. When we only have dithers, most of the central part of the final stack has a fixed depth. Only a thin border becomes shallower (conveying a sense of vibration!). For example see Figures 3 and 4 of Illingworth et al. (2013) which show the exposures that went into the XDF survey. These types of images (where each pixel contains the number of exposures, or time, that were used in it) are known as exposure maps. However, it can happen that only offsets are used. For example see Figure 1 of Trujillo et al. (2021), which shows the exposure map for the LIGHTS survey. The dithering pattern therefore is strongly defined by the science case (high-level purpose of the observation) and your telescope’s field of view. For example in the HUDF, CANDELS and other proposals (that constitute the XDF), the scientific target was high redshift (distant) galaxies. When counting the pixels that they cover in relation to the number of pixels in each exposure, these targets are very small objects. Such that within that small footprint (of just 1 arcminute!) we have thousands of such small objects (which may also be stars or nearby galaxies of similar observed size to the high redshift galaxies). Therefore for the scientific goal of the XDF, the very small dithers were sufficient to avoid instrument artifacts. However, the LIGHTS survey is focused on the halos of large nearby galaxies (that can be more than 10 arcminutes wide); thus covering a large fraction of the field of view of the Large Binocular Telescope that was used. In order to do robust calibration of the images (for example to estimate the flat field pattern, or the sky background level) it was necessary to have offsets. This enabled the galaxy and its halo to cover very different pixels from one exposure to the next. In other cases, the pointings include both offsets and dithers (around each offset). To find the ideal dither pattern for the particular scientific goal, it therefore helps to be able to simulate various strategies. In the next section, an installed script is introduced for this purpose (to simulate the exposure map of a series of pointings) in GNU Astronomy Utilities (Gnuastro Akhlaghi & Ichikawa 2015) version[1] 0.21 and later. There are no valid, procompetitive benefits of Apple’s exclusionary conduct that would outweigh its anticompetitive effects. Apple’s moat building has not resulted in lower prices, higher output, improved innovation, or a better user experience for smartphone users. 142. Apple markets itself on the basis of privacy and security to differentiate itself from what competition is left in the smartphone market. But this does not justify Apple’s monopolistic and anticompetitive conduct. Apple imposes contractual restraints on app creation and distribution, imposes hefty fees on many types of smartphone interactions, and conditionally restricts API access on its smartphone platform simply because it can. There are limited if any competitive constraints on this conduct. As a point of comparison, Apple does not engage in such conduct on its Mac laptops and computers. It gives developers the freedom to distribute software directly to consumers on Mac without going through an Apple-controlled app store and without paying Apple app store fees. This still provides a safe and secure experience for Mac users, demonstrating that Apple’s control over app distribution and creation on the iPhone is substantially more restrictive than necessary to protect user privacy and security. 143. In fact, many alternative technologies that Apple’s conduct suppresses would enhance user security and privacy. For example, Apple’s conduct targeting digital wallets forces users to share information with Apple even if they would prefer to share that information solely with their bank, medical provider, or other trusted third party. In particular, when an iPhone user provisions a credit or debit card into Apple Wallet, Apple intervenes in a process that could otherwise occur directly between the user and card issuer introducing an additional point of failure for privacy and security. Apple is also willing to make the iPhone less secure and less private if that helps maintain its monopoly power. For example, text messages sent from iPhones to Android phones are unencrypted as a result of Apple’s conduct. If Apple wanted to, Apple could allow iPhone users to send encrypted messages to Android users while still using iMessage on their iPhone, which would instantly improve the privacy and security of iPhone and other smartphone users. 145. Similarly, Apple is willing to sacrifice user privacy and security in other ways so long as doing so benefits Apple. For example, Apple allows developers to distribute apps through its App Store that collect vast amounts of personal and sensitive data about users—including children—at the expense of its users’ privacy and security. Apple also enters agreements to share in the revenue generated from advertising that relies on harvesting users’ personal data. Importantly, as a consequence of the 3rd order EP, we can only achieve an approximately diagonal form i.e. Jordan normal form LbJn leading to the equation Due to the off-diagonal nonzero defects in Eq. (D5), the time evolution of density matrix elements and other observables pick up additional algebraic terms in time. 1. Density matrix elements In region (e), the density matrix elements have the expressions below In Fig. 15(a), we present existence of t˜+ and t˜− as function of the control parameters ˜dI and ˜dII using the fixed dissipation protocol. The solutions’ surfaces in Fig. 15(a) reveal that there are regions where only one of the solutions t˜+ or t˜− exist leading to single QMPE, and in other regions both the solutions exist resulting in double QMPE. Particularly, lower values of ˜dI and ˜dII correspond to single intersection time solution and therefore single QMPE. To understand the behaviors of t˜+,− more clearly, we fix ˜dI and display t˜+,− as functions of ˜dII in Fig. 15(b). The Fig. 15(b) shows that the two branches t˜+ and t˜− interchange as ˜dI < ˜dII. More specifically, for ˜dI > ˜dII we have t˜+ > t˜− and for ˜dI < ˜dII we have t˜+ < t˜−. The underlying reason is that the discriminant p γ 2 1 − 4γ2γ0 in Eq. (D8) is proportional to sign of ( ˜dI − ˜dII). Thus the two intersection times interchange their roles by changing the sign accompanying the discriminant as we go from ˜dI > ˜dII to ˜dI < ˜dII. The Fig. 16(a) demonstrates an explicit example of double QMPE in ground state probability in region (e). Like other regions, here also the second intersection (shown in the inset of Fig. 16(a)) is much feeble in comparison to the first intersection. 2. Average energy For the same parameters used to obtain QMPE for ρgg(t) in Fig. 16(a), we would like to examine the possibility of QMPE in average energy E(t). Indeed, we observe in Fig. 16(b) that energy also exhibits double QMPE, marked by the twice intersection of zero by the energy difference ∆E(t) between the two copies. The insets of Fig. 16(b) shows separately the two intersections in the time evolution of the energies for the two copies. The second intersection is much weaker in magnitude compared to the first intersection just like the case of ground state probability. Note that the first intersection between the energies of I and II occur after they overshoot their steady state value which they reach during some early time of the relaxation process. 3. von Neumann entropy Here we investigate the von Neumann entropy SvN(t), starting from two copies I and II. We use same parameters that have produced double QMPE both in ground state probability [Fig. 16(a)] and average energy [Fig. 16(b)]. In fact, the Fig. 17(a) shows that the entropy also exhibits double QMPE indicated by twice zero intersections (the second one shown in inset of Fig. 17(a)) of the entropy difference ∆SvN(t) between the two copies. 4. Temperature In this section we study the thermal QMPE in region (e). We observe thermal QMPE in region (e) by using variable dissipation protocol in Fig. 17(b). There we observe single intersection and reversal of identities (i.e. hotter becoming colder and vice versa) occur after the negative temperatures have happened. So, such temperatures can be considered as well-defined and therefore this intersection in Fig. 17(b) corresponds to single QMPE in temperature in region (e).

Density matrix elements where In Fig. 12(a), we present the intersection time solutions denoting QMPE in ρgg(t) as functions of the control parameters ˜dI and ˜dII. Indeed, we observe that there are parameter regions where both t˜+ and t˜− are positive and finite, indicating double QMPE. Other regions have only one intersection time, either t˜+ and t˜−, implying single QMPE. To demonstrate double QMPE, the Fig. 12(b) exhibits a specific example of double intersection in ρgg(t). However, the two copies become close enough so that the second intersection (shown in inset of Fig. 12(b)) is weak in magnitude and hard to detect. 2. Energy We look for solutions to ∆Es(t) = 0, which can give to single or multiple QMPE depending on the number of positive finite intersection time solutions. The Fig. 13(a) shows that the average energy exhibits double QMPE indicated by the twice zero intersections of ∆Es(t), for the same set of parameter values producing double QMPE in ρgg(t) in Fig. 12(b). 3. von-Neumann entropy Here we ask if the entropy, like density matrix and energy, also exhibit double QMPE for the same set of parameters used in Figs. 12(b) and 13(a). However, in Fig. 13(b), we observe that the entropy difference ∆SvN(t) between two copies intersect zero only once, giving rise to single QMPE instead of double QMPE. 4. Temperature In Fig. 14(a), we present the time evolution of temperatures for the two copies I and II, one initially starting as hotter with respect to the other. We observe that the temperatures of the two copies intersect each other i.e. the hotter becomes colder and vice versa. Notably, unlike ground state probability [Fig. 12(b)], energy [Fig. 13(a)] that can exhibit double QMPE, we have observed only single QMPE in temperature. If observation of multiple QMPE is possible or not with purely exponential relaxations, remains an open question. 5. Kullback-Leibler divergence Here we study the possibility of QMPE in KL divergence for the same parameters used to explore thermal QMPE in Figs. 14(a). The Fig. 14(b) shows QMPE in KL divergence, however the intersection time corresponds to negative temperatures in Fig. 14(a).
