Nintendo finally broke its silence after launch raised controversy among the Pokemon community. Many fans have accused the latter of stealing designs from the popular Pokemon franchise and have called “Pokemon with Guns.” This narrative only fueled the game’s popularity even further, and many wonder if and when Nintendo will take action against Pocketpair. The gaming giant has finally released a statement about the current issue and will pursue legal action against anyone who infringes on their IP. Palworld’s Palworld’s “Pokemon with Guns” Issue Palworld has grown a massive following in less than two weeks and quickly became one of Steam’s most-played games. With over eight million copies sold, the game has cemented itself as another indie hit. Its “Pokemon with Guns” status has helped attract more players. However, its reputation for having similarities with the famous franchise has invited controversy. Many noted that several Pals look overly similar to several Pokemon, such as Jetragon to Latios and Anubis to Lucario. Some social media users have posted scale and design comparisons between these entities to prove their point further. Despite these issues, Palworld continues to garner support from the gaming community for its ingenuity in gameplay and concept. Palworld’s similarities with Pokemon have caused massive online discourse, with many criticizing the game as a blatant rip-off of Nintendo’s franchise. The plagiarism accusations are endless, with many commenting on Twitter and Reddit to voice their complaints. Some have even emailed Nintendo itself to ask what they will do in response to these allegations. Nintendo Breaks their Silence with a Post The Pokemon Company released a statement regarding accusations of competitor IP infringement. While the post did not outright name Palworld, it was alluded to in the texts as Nintendo mentioned that many people inquired about another company’s release in January 2024. The gaming giant has reiterated that they never permitted anyone to use their Pokemon IP and assets. The post highlighted that they will investigate IP infringement issues, so Palworld might be in hot water if Nintendo pursues legal action. However, many noted the ambiguity in the post and that it may not lead to any actual lawsuit. Instead of being a sign of oncoming legal battles, the announcement might be something that Nintendo posted to appease fans. Over the week, Nintendo has been bombarded with inquiries about Palworld, and the company has been silent about it ever since the game’s reveal and eventual release. The constant pressure from avid Pokemon fans might have pushed Nintendo to release a statement to quell further inquiries from concerned gamers. There might not be any intentions for an actual lawsuit. Palworld Is Not That Similar to Pokemon While the designs have uncanny similarities to Pokemon, the gameplay and almost 90% of the game are not that similar. Many Nintendo fans stated that Palworld is a rip-off of their beloved franchise. However, anyone who played it sees that the game resembles other survival games. Even devs have said that, while they did draw some inspiration from Pokemon, Palworld reaches titles like ARK and Craftopia more than others. CEO Mizobe stated that Palworld has cleared legal reviews, and since no other companies have taken action against them, they should be clear from any lawsuits. They continue to assert that they did not infringe on anyone’s IP. As PocketPair clears the air, devs continue imploring people to try the game before they give their opinions. Will Nintendo File a Lawsuit All Nintendo ever said was that they were investigating supposed IP infringement. If the company is deadset on pursuing legal action, they would have done so already. Palworld’s concept and gameplay have been publicly available since 2022 and featured during the 2022 and 2023 Tokyo Game Show. There was no reason for the company to ignore the game for that long if actual plagiarism was involved. No other company has pursued any lawsuit in the past two years, which should further prove that Palworld is in the clear. Even with Palworld’s massive success, Nintendo shouldn’t be threatened. Pokemon remains one of the most profitable and popular gaming franchises ever. The company has all the resources it needs to improve its games further. The release and popularity of Palworld could spur Nintendo to polish further and innovate their series’s next installments. Palworld is Another Win for Indie Developers Palworld becomes the latest string of successful game releases from indie developers. Previously, Lethal Company took the gaming community by storm last November and remains a highly played game until now. Both these games are a testament to the potential of any indie devs to create quality and top-notch games via innovation and passion. While many have lauded these companies for making enjoyable titles, gamers have noted how much less financially capable devs can produce such games than triple AAA companies. The gaming community hopes that well-funded studios will be able to release more innovative games with unique concepts. Hopefully, more indie developers will follow suit and show us competitive projects similar to Palworld.

For years, indie games have delivered unique and extraordinary gaming experiences, and let's face it, sometimes these experiences are ten times better than what big studio games have to offer. Also, indie games have become plentiful and more accessible over time, with most developers choosing to publish their games across several popular platforms. With the advancement of gaming engines and consoles, creators have more tools at their fingertips to create true masterpieces, with of a variety of genres. each year packed with indie releases So, what can we expect from the best indie games coming this year? Here are the Best Indie Games to be Released in 2022 Some of these titles have already been released this January, but some of them are planned to be released later this year and others don't have a set date yet. These games span across a variety of genres and aim to deliver an impressive range of gaming experiences. Lastly, these titles are presented in no specific order and will be available across different consoles upon release. With all of this in mind, sift through the list and see what is going to be your own best indie game for 2022. 1. Tchia Exploring a wonderfully rich cultural atmosphere is the goal of this sandbox adventure. Inspired by the culture of the New Caledonian people, players will spend much of the game traveling around the archipelago, swimming, climbing, sailing, gliding, and playing the ukulele. Not much is known about the overarching story, except players will take on the role of the protagonist, Tchia, as she goes on a tropical adventure across the archipelago and meets different types of people along the way. The game will also feature cutscenes that will be voiced in the traditional language, which will provide an extra immersive experience. 2. Bear & Breakfast Ever wanted to live the life of a bear in the forest? You can in this game, but there’s a twist. In Bear & Breakfast, players assume the role of a grizzly bear who manages a bed and breakfast in the woods - dangerous woods. Gameplay will consist of managing and setting up each room in the inn with Sims-like controls, as well as meeting other characters while exploring the forest. 3. Nobody Saves the World Shapeshifting into either a ghost, dragon, or slug (and more as you progress) is the core gameplay of this action-RPG. Thirsty Suitors Announced during this year’s Game Awards, Thirsty Suitors is expected to be a delightful mix of unique turn-based battles, skating, and cooking competitions. Players follow Jala, a young woman who is on a journey to find herself by confronting her past, dealing with overbearing family members, and more, all in time for her sister’s upcoming wedding. The game’s trailer is sprinkled with humorous moments and over-the-top action. There is no set date for the game’s release, but more information will be revealed soon. 6. Strange Horticulture Here’s another 2022 game that has already been released - yay! Strange Horticulture is a puzzle game where players run a local plant store. The overall goal of the game is to discover and identify new plants, as well as tend to your pet cat. It sounds simple, but the backdrop of the story involves players using their discoveries to dictate the occult-centered story. Other characters are thrown in the mix as players navigate the town of Undermere and solve an occult mystery. 7. Stray Stray is one of those titles you’ll see pop up on Twitter a lot if you browse through indie gamer threads for a while. It has created a strong fan base already even though it hasn’t even been released yet - wow! Players take on the role of a stray cat who is lost in a cybercity that contains its own secrets for our feline protagonist to bring to light. 8. Palworld Palworld has been making waves in the gaming world due to gamers comparing it to Nintendo's popular Pokemon franchise. In this indie game by Pocketpair, players travel around an open world, befriending and collecting "pals," mysterious creatures that can be found throughout the land. Players will use these pals in fighting, building, farming, and even working in factories in order to survive in this very bizarre world. The game is expected to have a multiplayer mode as well. 9. Planet Crafter Players will spend their time terraforming and surviving on a hostile planet in this space adventure title. The goal is to collect resources and shape the environment to make the planet safe and inhabitable for humans. Those who enjoy science fiction survival games will want to look into this one. 10. Cuphead - The Delicious Last Course Cuphead fans have been waiting forever for news of another Cuphead game. Needless to say, the news of a Cuphead DLC was one of the Game Awards’ biggest announcements this year. Continuing in the classic style of the original Cuphead game, Cuphead and Mugman team up with Ms. Chalice on an adventure to D.L.C. Isle. With the help of her abilities, the two brothers use their new weapons and magical charms to take on the new peril and aid Chef Saltbaker in the final quest. The game is expected to be released on the 30th of June. 11. Sea of Stars Sea of Stars has been gaining a lot of attention lately due to its colorful aesthetic and enchanting premise. This turn-based RPG follows the story of Children of the Solstice who must combine their sun and moon powers to use Eclipse Magic, a power that is essential in fighting off monsters created by The Fleshmancer - an enemy alchemist. 12. Mineko's Night Market This game is all about enjoying and appreciating Japanese culture. Players will play as protagonist Mineko, a young girl who moves to a new, yet worn-out, home on a Japanese-inspired island at the base of Mount Fugu. However, the island is in an uproar over reported sightings of Sun Cat, Abe, who was long thought to be a mythical figure. Mineko sets out to unravel the mystery behind the town and help restore it to what it once was - but she also must tend to her daily duties of working jobs, completing quests, and crafting items for the Night Market. 13. Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly Last but not least, Toge Productions is bringing back their talking simulator with a freshly brewed chapter. Players will be given the chance to create beautiful latte art, immerse themselves in a relaxing atmosphere, and brew a variety of coffee drinks that are sure to help the customers “warm up” to them, as they all share their own unique stories. It’s the continuation of the original Coffee Talk game, where two things in life are mixed together: coffee and heartfelt conversation. Final Thoughts on The Best Indie Games of 2022 As you can tell by the list, 2022 is another big year for the indie game world, and there’s something out there for everyone from the looks of it. 13 Best Indie Games to Look forward to in 2022

The first part of the title of this story probably had you thinking this was a Pringles vs Doritos vs Lays brawl. Maybe one day, we shall see that clash. If you’re a bit familiar with the phone and laptop tech scene, then you know that for years Apple always has one battle or the other with some big tech brands. These battles are either held in a courtroom, subtly in ads or on social media. From when they battled with Samsung for years to their most recent battle with Facebook just last year. They even battled with the at some point. Does everybody actually hate Chris or do they just hate Apple? FBI Unsurprisingly, I bring you yet another battle. The M1 and Intel After 15 years, Apple decided to bring the bromance, between intel and its Macs, to an end. In 2020, Apple announced their yearly laptop releases: a MacBook Air, a MacBook Pro and a Mac Mini. As expected, they looked exactly like their predecessors. The only new thing was that they all had new chips. Apple created their own chips and decided to start using them in newer installments of their laptops and desktops. They had already been making their own phone chips for years and decided to do the same for their laptops. If you know Apple, you know that they have one of the best ecosystems of technology products in the world. They make life very easy for their users with seamless integrations that target overall convenience. Of course, this comes at a cost but nothing good comes cheap. Apple’s software is optimized to work with their hardware and this ensures efficiency. A trend that continued with their game-changing M1. Its efficiency boasted numbers never seen before. The M1 Macs have longer battery lives and better performances than their equivalent Intel predecessors. As a response, Intel launched its 12th-gen mobile processors earlier in 2022. This launch resulted in very powerful chips that aim to compete with Apple’s best. Even though Intel has been King of the hill for many years, the chip market is buzzing with competition. Without further ado, let’s jump into the numbers. Tests Tests were carried out by PCWorld, and Anandtech and generated results from the benchmark companies. These were the major laptop units used: MSI GE76 Raider (14-core Core i9-12900HK / RTX 3080 Ti Laptop @175TGP/ 32GB DDR5/4800) Apple Macbook Pro 16 (10-core M1 Max / 64GB LPDDR5/6400) Two other laptop units were used for better reference of performance results. Note that for test charts, longer bars mean better performance. all The first comparison is Cinebench R23. Results sourced from Anandtech and PCWorld were used. The benchmark is used to measure a CPU’s rendering performance. This is a stress test for 10 minutes. CPUs with more cores win. Spoiler Alert: Intel’s chip wins the first round by around 25% better performance. Since the Intel chip has more cores, it was bound to win this round. Cinebench R23 was also run using a single thread to compare CPU’s best cores. In this test, the new 12th-gen Core i9-12900HK also outperforms the M1 Max. A slightly older 11th-gen Core i9-11980HK also outperforms the M1 Max in this test, by a relatively small margin, The next test was Primate Lab’s Geekbench 5 benchmark. First up is the multi-core performance of all the laptops. For the MacBook Pro, the result was gotten from Geekbench’s database. This isn’t as reliable as one from a known outlet. Since results are self-reported, the circumstances under which they were run are unknown. Therefore, higher scores reported for the M1 Max were picked. Yet again, the 12th-gen Core i9-12900HK wins this round by a very little percentage. But no matter how small the margin is, there can only be one winner. There was also a report on the single-core performance from Geekbench. The core count doesn’t really matter because the result you see is the best performance of each CPU’s best cores. The M1 Max loses in this round again in what was a really close call. The other lower units tested didn’t also do too bad when matched against these super chips. Now onto GPU tests. The next test is called the Geekbench’s Compute performance benchmark. It evaluates GPU performance, simulating workloads like image processing, computer vision, and machine learning.
