Odysee Goes Ad-Free: How This Bold Move Challenges the YouTube Empire

On July 10th, Odysee posted a video to announce that the largest web3 video-sharing platform will be transitioning to the Arweave blockchain. Arweave is essentially a decentralized data storage network that allows users to store data permanently and immutably. Odysee has ensured users the transition onto Arweave will be seamless, and user access to the platform will be uninterrupted. All user content, uploaded prior to the Arweave transition, will also remain unchanged and accessible. Odysee created an FAQ so users, and interested parties alike, can learn more about the switch and how the platform will utilize Arweave technology. The news comes one month after Odysee was acquired by the new parent company Forward Research, which is a "leading research and developer incubator" for the Arweave ecosystem. Odysee's former parent company, LBRY Inc., closed in October 2023, citing mounting debts after being successfully sued by the SEC for the unregistered sale of securities. "In this new decentralized future, Odysee will be just one of many places where your content can be accessed and enjoyed. There could be thousands of applications with similar names and user interfaces to Odysee. Domain names and platforms become less important when everything is accessible through the larger network. Your content will be available across various platforms and applications, greatly expanding its reach and impact. While Odysee will continue to offer a robust and user-friendly experience, your content won't be limited to just one platform."- Statement from Odysee Interestingly, during the course of my research, I found some clues (like this Reddit post) that point towards the Arweave ecosystem being a supporter of Odysee since at least early 2023. For example, this article shows the last remaining image of a post made by Odysee in September 2023 (image below). I say "last remaining image" because the link to the post gives you a "No Content Found" message, which means the original post has been deleted or hidden. What is shown in the post details Odysee's struggle with their old parent company LBRY Inc.'s legal battle and how Odysee found "a supporter" within the Arweave ecosystem in early 2023. One can only speculate on why Odysee would make this post about Arweave supporting them back in September only to delete it sometime in the future, but for whatever reason, they made a point to delete almost all traces of it. Within the now-deleted post, Odysee states that without the support and financial aid from this unnamed benefactor, the largest web3 video sharing platform would not have survived. The article even quotes some of the posts that said: "This support ensured that Odysee has stayed online. We are truly grateful to the Arweave ecosystem – without whom, Odysee would have had to shut down many months ago.” To add even more fuel to the conspiracy, the article goes on to quote a part of the post, that clearly shows a partnership or intention to work together: "fully decentralizing Odysee on top of Arweave as well as developing new non-tokenized products, that continue to imbibe Odysee’s values and push the notion of a fully decentralized media ecosystem forward." While building a new version of the platform on the Arweave blockchain, Odysee states they are also working on a Decentralized Media Ecosystem (DME). According to Odysee, a Decentralized Media Ecosystem (DME) is an open network that: is privacy-focused, customizable, and censorship-resistant
allows for the creation of an infinite number of media applications (like Twitter and Reddit) on the same Arweave technology stack

How to Waste $5000 on Personal Growth

If you stop and ask the average person on the street whether they think that politicians, banksters, and CEOs have their best interests at heart, you would be hard-pressed to find someone who says yes. Even the most statist, war-promoting, tax-paying, flag-waving people out there can no longer miss the obvious fact that "society" as we know it is simply a planet-sized human cattle farm, run by a small contingent of socio-/psychopaths. They probably still go along with it, and they vote for a new president or prime minister every few years, and they listen to the propaganda on the tele-screens... Depending on which half of the Duopoly party they support, there are probably different issues that they most notice: Team Red can easily see human trafficking, child mutilation, Authoritarian Socialism, and the attempted destruction of morality as a whole... While Team Blue can easily see the corporate greed, the immorality of "War," and the push for one "chosen" supreme "race" to control the whole planet... But for some reason, both sides are only capable of seeing some of these issues, specifically, they each seem to only be capable of holding awareness for the "problems" that the team they root for calls out as problems. This isn't their fault though, because this is just how the human brain works. The human experience is a hyper-personalized one, wherein our sense organs feed our brains terabytes of information every second, and our conscious mind receives a fraction of a percent of that information after it's all been filtered through currently existing beliefs, expectations, and assumptions. The human experience is, simply put, confirmation bias. The story you tell yourself in your mind is the story you will live out in the physical world. The game(s) you are playing decide what the "rules" are in your world, what "success" is, and what your relationships with others will look like... Competitive? Cooperative? Are your relationships & connections open, loving, trusting & intimate? Or simply quid-pro-quo exchanges... The Games We Play... or Don't Play Imagine you are with a group of friends, and everyone is playing a game. You notice that the rules & goals of the game tend to lead to people lying to each other, taking advantage of each other, and maybe even dehumanizing each other. Now, this is an established game, with rules that m/billions of people know. A game that has been played in more or less the exact same way for thousands of years. Do you think it's going to be possible to re-define that game? To get people to play it in a completely different way? To change what "winning" is and what acceptable behavior is to get there? Obviously, attempting to change the game being played, while it's being played, with most of the people playing it thinking that it is simply "Reality" is a non-starter. Unless you plan to dose the planet with aerosolized LSD or DMT, that sort of 90-degree turn for so many is just not going to happen. Play a Different Game - Opt Out The beautiful thing about this Reality we live in and our personalized experiences of it, is that each of us gets to choose the life we live. At any time, one can simply choose to replace an old belief, to play a different game, to tell a different story. As soon as they make that choice, the Universe begins re-aligning their life to match up to the new story. The game of Statist Capitalism is just ONE, of many many games, that we can each play every day. Every single part of the Statist structure is purely voluntary. If you don't want to play that game, you don't have to. The Exit & Build game, the Agorism game, the Off-Grid game... there are so many other options. Plus they’re FREE to use! The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technologies has undoubtedly brought significant changes to the way we perceive and engage with information. Google's Gemini debacle exposes a pressing concern over bias in AI, its misappropriation by powerful entities, and the need to safeguard individual autonomy in shaping a more transparent reality. So, let's break down its problematic layers, highlighting the imperative of distinguishing "natural" from “manipulative” or “imposed” biases, and the role of accessible information. We’ll also touch on how this could (and does) affect our society at large. Gemini's Questionable Ethics Google's Gemini Image Generator seemingly aimed to promote inclusiveness but inadvertently crossed a line by over-correcting, blurring historical accuracy in its attempts to create ethnically diverse depictions. The emergence of images such as black figures in response to requests for an image of a British monarch was alarming, as there were no such precedents in the training data. One meme shows someone asking it to generate such a monarch eating a watermelon, thus promoting stereotypes. Perhaps they should have called it Google Two-Face? This episode underscores the challenge of balancing ethics with user responsibility and the factual integrity and potential manipulations by AI creators. It’s so bad one has to wonder if this is an act of rebellion with Google employees sabotaging Gemini in response to being tasked with training their replacement (AI coders) or supporting the politically correct agenda. Granted, if you are using AI to educate children, for instance, you don't want them to inherit a bias from skewed perspectives or incomplete understanding. But I contend that is an issue for educators, and parents and students to understand and deal with on a case-by-case basis, much like parents might need to explain to kids that certain things in a movie are firmly based in reality, and certain things are not. We should not take the power away from the individual and assume they cannot discern fact from fiction, and try to our idea of factual reality or censor views or speech we deem inappropriate. That introduces more bias and invites a broad action impose that does more harm than good as exemplified by the “British king” below. How can we educate, write, or do research if the AI tells us what reality and the content it produces should look like, rather than the other way around? Manipulating AI as a Propaganda Tool The misuse of AI by tech giants looms large when their supposedly ethical goals of avoiding doing harm, veer toward ideological endorsements or suppression of dissent. The OpenAI, Anthropic, and other examples online where AI refuses to make jokes about Joe Biden, but not Trump, illustrates a bias toward political correctness and alignment with the company's executive's core values. Especially when you consider the amount of actual political satire that is available, it’s clear it did not get these values from the training set, unless it was heavily curated. It raises concerns over the potential exploitation of these tools to bolster oppressive regimes and agendas. It's no secret that companies like Google have had to , the US has also manipulated the public via social media and big tech companies to promote narratives. bend to governments like China making demands, but as the Chinese spokesperson pointed out As we grapple with the ramifications of biased algorithms, it's crucial to differentiate between inherent AI tendencies and intentional misappropriation. If these companies are being directed to promote or discourage narratives or avoid politically or otherwise undesirable discourse, this takes the power out of the hands of the end user just as Operation Mockingbird buying up and infiltrating news organizations for the CIA meant that your interests weren't being looked out for, because these news organizations worked for the CIA rather than readers and the truth. The last thing we need is an artificial intelligence that insists this is true. Natural Vs. Manipulative Bias I’m using the term natural or learned bias in AI to refer to bias that often stems from incomplete training data, or data which reflects real-world bias or public perception. These issues can be mitigated over time through education on how to recognize things like stereotypes and bias, but also continuous upgrades and more inclusive training sets. On the other hand, manipulative or imposed bias results from deliberate distortion by those controlling the AI development or deployment, undermining its objectivity and integrity. Citizens must decipher the distinction to remain vigilant against insidious manipulations, even if they are believed to be done with noble intent. Even if you don't think satirizing the President or asking how to do something dangerous is appropriate, the liability should not be placed on the companies, or the model, but those of us running, listening, and acting on it. The current status quo among generative AI companies is akin to your car telling you that you have had enough to eat today and refusing to allow you to drive to the store supposedly for fear you might sue Ford for making a car that would allow you to get fat on your own dime, of your own free will. If you allow a kid to ask an AI unsupervised, how to do something stupid and the kid gets hurt, you and the kid should be the only ones held responsible. There is no need for regulations to stop this. All that is needed is for companies to self-responsibly try to make sure that kids don't use this stuff unsupervised, like an R-rated movie, and train the LLMs to call a function that would flag messages that should be reviewed, and as with social media, if serious abuse, etc. is occurring, such as being used to hack things or engage in illegal activity, the account should be suspended or deactivated. It's important for the public, especially educators and anyone using Gemini for research, etc., to understand that it may inherit bias from the company. Anthropic, OpenAI, and even Mistral have had their AI go a bit too far into policing its own output. I’m aware many might want to err on the side of caution before enabling anyone to spam servers with the help of an AI, so you might prohibit this regardless. A friend noted that Mistral’s AI lectured him on how he wasn’t allowed to spam his own server because resource abuse is unethical.
