The game was an adaptation of the film series with players going through the story’s major events, although the game told the story in a much faster and simpler way. Like other Xbox Kinect games, the player would wave their arms to play the game. Players were also able to say things out loud to do certain commands, such as call for backup from their friends. Moving their arms around in a specific way would do different spells, and players also used their hands to make potions. Wingardium leviosa, incendio, and expecto patronum were just some of the spells players could cast. 3. Sonic Free Riders I remember seeing commercials for Sonic Free Riders and thinking it looked like a blast, the Kinect looked like it was worth it solely for this game. A hoverboard racing game starring Sonic characters, Sonic Free Riders was the last installment in the Sonic Riders trilogy. The story sees Sonic characters racing in a tournament set up by the nefarious Doctor Eggman. Some of the playable characters include Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and Shadow, although there are plenty more. The game requires the full use of the player’s body to race; different movements perform different functions. SEMANTIC MAPPING FRAMEWORK This section presents our semantic mapping framework, which builds upon our previously introduced framework [21] by adding additional layers to the semantic map and increasing the number of object classes. We begin with a brief description of the pre-processing steps followed by a detailed description of the second layer of our semantic map. This layer involves the integration of conventional SLAM processes with a filtering and tracking module, enabling the overlay of the grid map with object information. Finally, we compute an ‘observation layer’ based on the obtained object information. Similarly, several such layers can be added with new information in our framework such as map topology or region segmentation [22]. Our framework extensively utilizes the open-source middleware Robot Operating System (ROS [23] and its associated libraries. We use the ‘Grid Map Library’ [24] to build, visualize and maintain our triple-layered map in conjunction with ROS. Additionally, we utilized the Azure Kinect DK sensor SDK [25] in the design framework. A. Pre-processing The RGB and depth images from the Azure Kinect sensor are registered to prepare the semantic map. The depth image is registered in the RGB frame since the RGB image has a lower FoV (Field of View) and subsequently, the compressed depth and RGB images are transported from the onboard computing system to the server computer. These images are rectified using intrinsic camera calibration parameters provided by the SDK, and finally, the point cloud data is generated. B. Mapping The resulting point cloud data is used to create a 3D grid map (octomap) of the environment. While any kind of 3D map representation can be used for navigation such as RGBDSLAMv2 [26], we choose RTAB-Map [27] as the preferred method because of its appearance-based loop closure in real-time. Five of the most ubiquitous object classes in indoor spaces, namely the , and , are taken into consideration for generating the semantic map. During the mapping process, YOLOv7 [7] is employed to detect objects in frames. The YOLOv7 network generates a 5-D output for each detected object, including the object class and four bounding box parameters (centre coordinates: Cx and Cy, breadth: B, and length: L). The bounding boxes are randomly sampled and the mean X and Y coordinates are computed from the corresponding point cloud data. Multiple chair, bed, table, TV sofa measurements over time are fused using Kalman filtering before placing 3D models on the map frame. After an object is placed on the map, it needs to be tracked to determine if it is a previously detected instance of that object or not. For tracking the objects in these scenarios, we maintain the record of ′K′ previously seen objects of a class and current observations for latest frames (′L′ objects of the same class) as follows: C. Observable Region Layer After completion of the mapping phase, we determine the observation regions. An observable region in our context is defined as an area around the landmark such as chair, from where it is sufficiently visible. We define a rectangular region based on the location of the landmark. The Observable Region layer (refer Fig. 2) enables us to perform region-to-region navigation. When the robot explores ‘chair space’ to search for an object, it navigates to the associated region. Once the robot is within the region, the robot reorients itself to search for any target on the chair. Thus, a region-to-region navigation is established. The purpose for defining is manifold. First, it reduces the time required and the cumulative distance traveled by the robot to find the object. Secondly, if the navigation goal is occluded due to an obstacle, the robot can still successfully navigate near the point and search for the target. In any case, the robot’s final pose is facing the desired landmark. Lastly, it eliminates the need to undertake oscillatory movements or recovery maneuvers due to erroneous planning or overshoots during execution. observable regions

EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES The following section describes the experimental details, starting with hardware configuration, followed by quantitative results and analysis. A. Hardware Configuration We use a Turtlebot2 platform with Kobuki base for our experiments. The onboard sensors include a RGB-D camera (Azure Kinect), a laser range scanner (RPLIDAR S2). The encoder information from the robot base is used to compute the odometry. The data acquisition from sensors and command relay to the robot is performed on the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier as the client. The backend computations as well as the frontend visualization were carried out on a server CPU with NVIDIA 3090RTX graphics unit with an i9-12900K processor. The ROS distributed computing network ensured time synchronized communication between the server and the client. B. Living Lab- Simulated indoor environment All tests were performed in a simulated indoor environment called the ‘Aobayama Living Lab’ [2] at Tohoku University. The goal is to create a concept for future welfare facilities, as shown in Fig. 5. The Living Lab included household objects such as tables, chairs, sofas, beds, TVs, lamps, and cabinets. The facility emulates various areas, including toilets, bathrooms, kitchens as well as an outdoor environment with stairs, slopes, and rough terrain. The dataset generated from the Living Lab will be used to facilitate long-term navigation for service robots. C. Experimental Setup We conducted numerous experiments with different initial positions to understand the influence of our heuristic and navigation strategies. Each data point shown in the next subsection is obtained after averaging the results of five tests conducted in every scenario. Averaging eliminates any bias due to the slight randomness of the path planners and the minor differences in the starting positions (< 5cm) in each run. The distance traveled and the time required for the robot to search each target is recorded. The positions of the targets, i.e., cup and remote, are kept unchanged. D. Results and Analysis The results are divided into two groups. In the first part, we compare the performance of our novel heuristic with a baseline probabilistic greedy search. Figure 6 shows the results of a comparative study. Compared to the baseline, the proposed heuristic led to an average decline of 31.67% in the time taken, and 40.5% decrease in distance travelled to find a cup. Similar reductions of 26.35% and 29.3% were found in time required and distance travelled for searching remote. Thus, our heuristic is significantly superior than probabilistic baselines for multitarget search. Next, we compare the differences in target search with respect to the priorities set by the user. We initialize the target search from ten random locations in the indoor environment and change the priority of the search for each scenario. The results are shown in Figures 7a and 7b below. Our studies show that on an average a time reduction of 12.05s (33.5%) is observed when the user prioritizes finding the cup. In case of prioritising remote, a time reduction of 10.5s (26.5%). observed when compared with an equal priority search. When the user prioritises cup, the first-hit (i.e finding the target at the first landmark visited) percentage was 60% as compared to 40% for a equal-priority search. The cumulative time spent increased by 8.94s when prioritising remote and by 4.13s when prioritising cup as compared to equal priority search. Additionally, if the robot were to prioritize finding the remote, it took 25.8s more than the equal priority search to find the cup. Thus, it can be inferred that if the user intends to save energy or cumulative time rather than find one target at the earliest, an equal priority directive should be given. We assess the distance efficiency of our search strategy by calculating the Success weighted by Path Length (SPL) metric as follows: = Length of path followed by Robot L Figure 8 shows the SPL for target search (for both targets) depending on the priority set by the user. It is observed that the SPL increases by 0.16 (24.84%) when the user tasks the robot to search for a cup with priority, as compared to an equal priority search. An increase of 0.14 (19.5%) in the SPL is observed when prioritsing remote in the target search. In a cross-analysis, it is seen that the SPL decreases by 0.18 (20.2%) while searching for remote and 0.42 (51.5%) while searching for cup if the user prioritizes searching for the other object. The sharper SPL decline for cup can be attributed to its real location being closer to multiple landmarks as opposed to the remote.

CONCLUSIONS AND DISCUSSIONS In this study, we have successfully demonstrated the feasibility of target search in indoor environments by effectively locating multiple targets using a novel heuristic. Our proposed approach offers a reliable region-to-region navigation strategy that can accommodate user preferences during the search. The region-to-region navigation is efficient in terms of time as well as energy. It is inherently more robust to obstacles and occlusions as compared to point-topoint navigation. Furthermore, our system can perform these tasks in real-time and is suitable for small to medium sized indoor spaces such as homes and offices. The system can be improved using decision making strategies that optimize long horizon navigation planners. Another non-trivial extension of this work is to add a manipulator to the system that can perform high-level object pickup tasks and extend the current system to accommodate more complex and challenging environments. With companies hyping up their VR products by emphasizing their immersion, consumer expectations are higher than ever. Virtual reality, a , can create unreal experiences that can’t be reproduced in any other medium. However, the less natural it feels, the more that it takes them out of that experience. Among the most important aspects of immersion in VR are our own bodies. That’s where full body tracking comes in. Let’s talk about how full body tracking and estimation are changing how we experience social VR and what lies on the horizon. $16.8 billion dollar industry Where Are My Legs? The marketing push for Meta’s leap into virtual reality promised a world that consumers could be fully immersed in. It has repeatedly spiked and stabilized since 2022, showing that consumers are interested in the topic. With IMU tracking like SlimeVR just now beginning to ship to backers, now is a pivotal moment for startups to get ahead of the competition by developing and releasing trackers to support social VR users. Yet, what is full body tracking, and why do people want it so badly? What Is Full Body Tracking? If VR enthusiasts want accurately tracked legs, they might be surprised to learn that this has been accessible for consumers for many years. Initially marketed to allow for tracking of real-world objects in VR, it soon was adopted by players to track parts of their bodies like their legs, knees, elbows, and chest. Vive released their first base-station enabled trackers in 2017. Full Body Tracking (FBT) enables VR users and motion capture artists to track as much of their bodies as possible. In both cases, users translate their body’s real-world movements into the movements of an avatar. FBT enables much more expression and body language than VR users might have otherwise. If the goal is to have greater freedom of movement and immersion in VR, there are three approaches: Vive, Tundra trackers, measured by external base stations. Lighthouse-based tracking: all measurements are done internally by onboard sensors. Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) tracking: an alternative to full body tracking that calculates the most probable positions of the body based on limited information. Vive and Tundra are the main manufacturers in this space, and they are known for being reliable and easy to use. However, lighthouse-based tracking is expensive. Not only do consumers need to buy trackers for hundreds of dollars each, they also need expensive base stations and shelves to mount them on. Lighthouse-based tracking can fall victim to occlusion issues, so trackers cannot be obscured by clothing or other objects like blankets. Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) Tracking A technology rising in popularity for VR is IMU tracking. Powered by individual sensors, IMU trackers don’t require base stations to function. They can be completely wireless and battery operated. However, they are more difficult to install and operate. IMU trackers are more difficult to set up and are prone to drift, requiring recalibration from time to time during sessions. IMU trackers have the advantage of not needing any line of sight. This means that they can be occluded by clothing or other objects. This tracking technology is cheaper but there aren’t many options out there. Sony’s Mocopi trackers are available now but are pretty expensive. Despite this, Mocopi trackers are still cheaper than lighthouse-based tracking solutions. There are some alternatives that use the SlimeVR protocol. is an Android app that uses your Android phone’s sensors as a full body tracker. SlimeVR owoTrack Full Body Estimation (FBE) Although not truly ‘full body tracking’, full body is an alternative solution to the previous two options. Instead of using dedicated trackers for each part of your body, FBE calculates your body’s position based on the data the program already has. Generally, this is done using the position of your VR headset and controllers. However, different approaches might use something like an Xbox Kinect sensor or a webcam. estimation Standable is one of the most popular projects for full body estimation compatible with SteamVR. Although not an open-source project, its compatibility and ease of use are popular among users, with 74% of its reviews on Steam being positive. It’s a great option for those who can’t afford more expensive tracking solutions or just want to try out something more accurate for measuring their body in VR. Meta has also taken this approach with the Quest 3 with its ‘inside out full body tracking’ feature, which is actually just FBE. What Is the Future of Full Body Tracking? With consumer interest in full body tracking rising and stabilizing, it’s clear that consumer demand in full body tracking is rising. What’s less clear is how the market will respond. There are three variables that will impact customer buying choices with FBT: Setup difficulty Cost Accuracy and performance VR as an industry is beginning to recover from a trough of disillusionment. However, for VR enthusiasts, the technology for full body tracking has been around for a long time, just not in a form that has been the most accessible to consumers. The easiest and highest performing trackers require a significant investment. However, the rise of open source IMU solutions like SlimeVR suggest future market disruption. If more businesses were to enter the market and sell competitively priced IMU tracking solutions with high performance and convenience, there’s a lot of money to be made. The same can be said if a company manages to figure out how to reduce the cost of lighthouse-based tracking. Aside from IMU solutions, full body estimation methods are improving. Perhaps the simplest and best option for most people may be no trackers at all. Although imperfect, FBE is a great starting point to improve the quality and immersion of VR experiences for most users. Time will tell how the market shifts, but with SlimeVR’s crowdfunded trackers finally starting to ship, I am definitely curious how businesses will respond to increasing demand for the ability to kick somebody in the face or dance in VR. Apple’s new Vision Pro headset is a major step forward for augmented reality, but it’s full of limitations. It allows users to interact with apps in the real world, but it’s bulky, and it uses a tethered connection to a battery pack. As I was watching the presentation, I couldn’t stop thinking that Apple is being held hostage by its own five-year-old business plan. Apple has become the third Big Tech company trying to convince us that in the future we will work with others using a big headset mounted on our heads. Microsoft pioneered the idea with HoloLens, and Meta doubled down on this with Oculus. I of using augmented reality (AR) headsets in 2021, when Meta announced their metaverse to much fanfare. Nonetheless, the future that Mark Zuckerberg hyped had a key component: regular-looking glasses that worked as AR devices. wrote about the problems That’s not what Apple announced today, mainly because we are still about 10+ years away from that type of miniaturized technology. Instead, Apple announced a headset that pressure-fits your head, and uses a wired connection to an external battery pack. They also announced a new way of interacting with the virtual world, using hand gestures; it brought back memories of how tiresome using Kinect was back in the day. A lot of emphasis was made today around the fact that Apple had been working on this $3500 device for many years. This, combined with the call to developers encouraging them to create AR experiences for Vision Pro, gave me flashes of the past. Apple started working on this back when the industry thought that the next big selling product was going to be virtual and augmented reality. Fast-forward to 2023, and artificial intelligence (AI) has become the next shiny toy for the tech industry. The tech industry is rushing to integrate AI on every possible product  —even those that don’t need it. If Apple could reinvest today the billions of dollars required to make the Vision Pro, would they choose a different big bet? I think so. Unfortunately for Apple, it’s too late to abandon the effort. The device was , and remained in the news for years until it leaked months ago. Right around the same time, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT and sent the tech industry into an AI frenzy. Apple Vision Pro: the Next Big Thing in Tech?

Hello, world! We are , a Latvia-based start-up studio. We would like to share with you how we use available democratized technology to help large and medium-sized enterprises save thousands of lives, millions of life-years, tons of gold and diamonds, and billions of dollars. We create thousands of new jobs, too, in AI/ML/DL/CV/MLOps. We focus on gesture recognition and behavioral video analytics as well as create start-ups based on a turnkey solution (3–6 months) tailored to customers/industries. Warden AI Lab Here are our ten cases, sad or funny, with lessons learned. Case No.1: How Gesture Recognition prevents stealing Company: Gold processing plant Size: 8,000 employees Location: Eurasia Capacity: 16 tons of gold per year A mine or quarry supplies gold-bearing ore to the gold mill where the ore is crushed, graded, sorted, and smelted into ingots. Crushed into sand, the ore goes to the gravity table where one of the sorting processes takes place. At this stage, the control over the employees was not very strict and as a result... the mill experienced a gold shortage of 7%. In other words, out of a kilogram of gold from the conveyor, only 930 grams made it to the final stage. More than a ton of gold "vanished" annually. A ton of gold costs $57 million. With the global gold production amounting to 3,000 tons per year, 20 tons of gold get siphoned off ($1 billion) – and this is at the plant, let alone the mine and transportation. The malcontents would sometimes put a stick on the gravity table to build up a pile of gold sand and then scoop the sand with their hands straight into a pocket. Then they would put it in a handkerchief and make a tricky gear of yarn and nylon stockings to transport the sand through the ventilation system to the outside. In slang, this is called "letting the horse through the vent.” The perpetrator would hide a bucket with gold sand in a tank with chemicals to be taken out of the security perimeter. In the smelting shop, would inadvertently be spilled on some item that has been deliberately put there by a steelworker, and the perpetrator would go home where a "golden shoe" that left the factory via ventilation would be waiting for him. Attack Scenario 1: Attack Scenario 2: Attack Scenario 3: doré alloy We installed 17 IP cameras and 3 servers with specialized software. The solution cost $800,000. The project roll-out took 7 months. It involved six specialists. The video analytics software could recognize 20 target scenarios of “non-standard behavior”, such as when the operator’s hand is in the wrong place at the gravitation screener; the operator is not holding a special brush; the operator is touching the gold-accumulating box; the operator is sealing the gold concentrate carrier in a wrong way; etc. The installation of the video analytics system resulted in a loss reduction from 7% to 2%. It is still a mystery though where the remaining 300 kg of gold vanishes yearly. Extrapolating these results from one enterprise to global gold mining, the implementation of video analytics could reduce the loss of gold 3–7 times, from 20 tons per year to 3–6 tons. Solution: Result: Case No.2: How Gesture Recognition prevents armed uprising Company: Diamond mines Size: 1,500 employees Location: Africa Mining truck drivers do not comply with work safety regulations and get behind the wheel tired and sleepy, which leads to the overturning of trucks or fatal accidents. This is especially the case during Ramadan when you are not allowed to eat during the daytime for religious reasons in sub-Saharan Africa. Statistically, this leads to two major accidents during Ramadan each year. When on-site, we witnessed a driver falling asleep behind the wheel of a 100-ton dump truck and crashing into a repair and warehouse complex, killing two people in front of dozens of workers. The workers got up in arms, seized the mine, and blamed the accident on the management of the European firm. The British management team and their families were urgently evacuated by plane to a neighboring country. Install 2 cameras on each dump truck to capture behavioral signs of fatigue. The cost of equipping one truck would amount to $80,000 on a turnkey basis, including communications equipment and climate hardware edition. Deploy an operations control center. The solution was not implemented for religious reasons – video cameras, presumably, steal souls. It’s like GDPR restrictions, only you can't comply with them. Issue: Solution: Result: Case No.3: How Gesture Recognition prevents in-transit theft Company: Diamond mines Size: 1,300 employees Location: Africa A road train stops halfway between the mine and the ore processing and diamond extraction plant and reports a breakdown over the radio. Meanwhile, 30 to 40 specially trained people from a neighboring village unload what they consider the most promising pieces of ore, up to 2 tons per hour, if we rely on the truck scales. This would happen virtually every other night, in different spots along the 40-kilometer route, on random targets, contributing to the development of small jewelry businesses in the region more than any state-run development program. Video analytics on board the dump trucks enabled monitoring of the vehicle sides and the driver's behavior to distinguish real breakdowns from spontaneous attacks and malicious intent. The system transmitted the data to the security task force. After 3 months and a series of high-profile incidents, in-transit ore losses were reduced by 72%. Where the remaining 28% go, we do not know, we would only advise having the truck scales checked more frequently. Issue: Solution: Case No.4: How Gesture Recognition prevents misuse of hazardous equipment Company: Diamond mines Size: 1,300 employees Location: Africa Imagine a work settlement with almost 10,000 people. Out of them, one person officially undergoes full training as a dump truck driver and receives all the certificates and papers. At night, the driver brings in an outsider to the premises who looks pretty much like the driver, puts him behind the wheel of the dump truck, and trains him. As a result, one driver with all the legal documents works on three sites almost simultaneously, when in fact the trucks are driven by the illegals who were trained in this improvised underground training center at night, with all the ensuing incidents, risks, and responsibilities pertinent to no one. We installed cameras in mining trucks to monitor driver fatigue. The cameras were augmented with face recognition functionality. The collected proprietary library made it possible to recognize 319 incidents in 1 month. As a result, the number of accidents and breakdowns of dump trucks, average fuel consumption, and loss of tools decreased. The number of drivers was also cut down, by almost a dozen. As for the economics of this security and safety use case, attracting and training new people turned out to be incommensurably cheaper than it seemed to the HR department at first. Issue: Solution: Case No.5: How Gesture Recognition prevents non-compliance with safety regulations at a power plant Company: Thermal power plant Size: 914 employees Location: Eurasia The customer wanted to install a video analytics system to check the completeness of personal protective equipment used by employees when leaving the administration complex and going into the production area (7 checkpoints in total). 16 IP cameras and 1 server. The project costs totaled $200,000. The software automatically recognized the presence of a helmet on the head, gloves on the hands, boots on the feet, and distinguished jeans from protective pants. The solution detected gross violations, such as wearing hockey helmets with a color design similar to protective helmets; wearing safari helmets; or wearing shorts in a workshop. We also identified a mini-pride of seven cats living in the shop. Amazing! After 14 months of operation, the number of incidents was down 83% in comparison to the previous year. The project paid off more than tenfold because persistent offenders were de-bonused and incidents avoided. Case No.6: How Gesture Recognition prevents major breakdowns Company: Coal enrichment facility Size: 510 employees Location: Eurasia Frozen oversize lumps of coal were supplied from the storage area to the conveyor belt and then to the crushing equipment, clogging its overlaps and causing shutdowns. In the same way, we learned that a lack of standardized shovels is a global problem, while standardized practice makes perfect and leads to a 2–4% increase in manual labor productivity annually. Unlike the battery-hungry Balance Board, the ring from Ring Fit is a tough plastic peripheral designed to provide resistance training and hold one of the controllers (the other straps to your leg). Ring Fit Wii Fit What really sets Ring Fit aside from the others on this list is that it really manages to nail the balance of fitness and game. While many fitness apps are gamified, this one manages to be a game with fitness instead. Sure, the RPG might be horrendously corny and fitness-themed - but it is fun and enjoyable, encouraging players to work out and build up their fitness with a genuine story aspect and fitness-based combat. The plastic peripheral does seem odd to start with, but the resistance training you’ll do with it takes genuine effort and works muscles in a way that none of the other fitness apps in this list do. Overall it’s fun, well-rounded, balances brilliantly between game and training, and even gets a good few laughs as a party game when you have a group round. Dushyant In essence, Developer experience should be an extension of a Developer that brings out the best of me rather than making me think in a typical way of what a company wants to, or platform wants to look at. Firebase was fantastic; how they identified the use case good understanding of sample code, and documentation.” – “For me, it’s about how quickly I can get started on the external platform; how quickly can I see the ‘Hello World’ output on the platform. My personal favorite platform are Twilio, and Stripe. In terms of getting started – I’m a fan of fdk (Freshworks Developer Kit), and you inviting me to the Summit is also a great example of an enriching Developer experience!” Harish – “Developer experience to me would simply mean obsession for simplicity which is a natural extension of what previously was the fundamental longing to have for consumers in product management. It’s a similar extension to have that view with respect to the SaaS platform. Just that it now requires a different lens to have empathy for developers and really simplify it for them. Karthic So yes, obsession with simplicity to make a developer successful with a particular product. Scaling, and administrating it should be simple; no one should require a 3-day training to be able to do that. We must make a lot of dumb choices, we have to stop doing some of the things that would have increased the complexity of the system, not just from the way it works but also from the end user perspective; that’s why it takes a different lens to actually simplify or to be obsessed to simplify things so that the developers can be extremely successful, pretty fast.” – “Now that’s an interesting way to look at it – from the platform perspective as to how you build it such that you take challenges away from the developer’s hands and move it close to the platform as much as possible. Nice!” Satwik – “I would say how you have user experience for developers per se is what I consider as Developer experience. So, if I have to code something for my experience, it would mean I have a framework, the libraries, and everything put in place, and if I get stuck, I have the support. So, combining everything around the product, and providing all the support is called the developer experience for me as a developer.” Ponvannan Is DevX the new UX? – “What kind of changes have you seen in the last decade or so, such that DX has become more important than the UX? What has led to it?” Satwik – “The number one factor is bottoms-up developer adoption becoming a driving force for growth, sales, and revenue, for getting capital venture funding for start-ups. That has completely changed the landscape. Now so much money is being spent to ensure that DX comes first because now, if you want to go for series A, and series B then you need bottoms-up developer adoption for your product.” Karthic “If developers are the ones who are going to discover your product, if they are the decision-makers, if they are the ones who are going to try your product, they are the ones who are going to build apps, then these are the numbers that you will show for your next funding. These are the numbers that are going to become the funnel for your revenue which means all your obsession from the product, marketing, decision makers, and every part of the developer lifecycle goes into the DX, and thus it becomes very important.” – “If I have a low-code platform with the framework and library and if it is able to cut off 60% of my development time, then I don’t mind going ahead with Low Code. It should be open, with no compliance concerns.” Ponvanna – “From old school to today, there has been a lot of commoditization of services on platforms. What would previously take months, like building a Machine learning model and deploying it, is now an API call away from multiple service providers. Adoption, in terms of finding these platforms and then being able to experiment, is also helping to drive growth. That’s why DX is more relevant now than ever before.” Harish – “So Dushyant, what would be 2 or 3 areas that you would recommend our developers to ask for, where they should demand from the platform in terms of DX?” Satwik – “Many times, as a developer, we don’t realize how much power we have to influence the platform we are working on. We spend 8-10 hours a day working on it or some of us even bet our careers on it, but we never share our frustration with it.  So that is something that we should share with the platform or make them aware of, that “hey, this is my environment,” because they will understand the challenge only when they understand what environment you operate in.” Dushyant “Secondly, you should try to show them the mirror. That’s one thing I’ve done many times to platform companies I’ve worked for that is – I would like to be in your shoes, could you show me what’s happening? Because 99% times product managers or product developers, or engineers who are building that platform may have a blind spot on that. They may have their fancy internal systems; they may have their tools and applications and code snippets on top of it. They never really experienced what it could be like to be in someone else’s shoes. Ask for a roadmap, have clarity what’s upcoming, and if I have a pain point, is this going to be addressed in the next release.” Peek into the future – one thing that developers as a community would love to experience? – “There are a couple of areas that are pretty ripe for great development experience – AI, and the other is web3. DX, it’s still in a phase where its rapidly evolving to simplify the App development experience. Great developer experience could democratize the experience of App development.” Karthic – “For me, that would be a lot more abstraction from platforms so that the developers don’t have to worry about how data is stored, what is the security policy, and what are licenses I need to know about. Let them focus on coding, that’s all.” Harish – “Low code platform will define the DX. So, if I have a library, I have a framework, if I have 1000’s lines of code, and I’m able to solve the complex logic, then I’m sorted. I can focus on business problems to achieve the solution, and that’s how it will be transformational.” Ponvanna – “Many times as developers, we have struggled for the right kind of information, I would like to see if there can be an evolution of the platform, which is an extension of me. I’m a big believer of that idea – so at that moment when you are stuck, could there be a service or functionality so that whenever it could come in and give me contextual info - hey, you are using this, but maybe this is the right thing to do. Today, it seems like there are so many websites and hardware tools being released that are prerequisites for experiencing the Metaverse. With so many barriers to entry, it can sometimes seem like there is a ‘catch’ to enjoying the Metaverse, in its current form at least. Most times, you  would need to invest in a headset, but many headsets cost hundreds of dollars. What you need is not simply the software, but also the headset itself. There are some great circumvents, and we've made a list for you! These cheap or free options will allow you to enter even more fully into your VR experience than you otherwise could with just your laptop or PC. To take part in the metaverse, you need a device that can connect to it. A PC is nice, but it's not necessary. You do not have to go purchase a gaming computer with all of the bells and whistles because there are some really great options available if you don't want to spend the money on a new computer. Virtual reality is best experienced with high-end machines without the fancy bells and whistles just so you can maintain a steady frame rate and low latency. Some of these cheaper devices can connect to your Skydrive, which is helpful for those who do not want or cannot afford anything else. Let’s take a look at some of these devices. Microsoft Kinect : The Kinect is a motion-detecting camera that can be used for many purposes. It can bring you into the Metaverse because it is a cheap device that has been made with 360-degree movement in mind. The Kinect is an inexpensive option for those who want to get into virtual reality but do not have the money to invest in an expensive gaming computer. Microsoft If you would like to enter virtual reality at a lower price point, Microsoft Kinect provides what you need at a very affordable price point. It can read your body's movements from up to six meters away, and it has a high frame rate as well (much better than most webcams). Google Cardboard Cardboard is a simple, affordable way to enter virtual reality. It provides the experience of a headset without the cost of one. The cardboard VR kit comes with two lenses and an NFC tag, which allows you to scan items from the Metaverse into your real world. Google All you have to do is slide your smartphone into the back of the device and put it over your eyes. It's as simple as that! The most expensive part of Google Cardboard is just the cardboard itself. Oculus Rift The is an amazing experience, but you need a good PC to run it. The Rift allows you to enter into a virtual reality world by using your head movements and looking around based on the environment you are in. The headset allows you to see right into the Metaverse and experience 3D video and VR content. Oculus Rift The Oculus Rift is very expensive, and it is only available in a few locations. Some content might be publicly accessible, but not all of the content can be seen. It depends on the region you are in. Games There are a host of games by Indie developers that work with your head movements or with screens placed right around your face and provide the experience of virtual reality at a lower cost than most headsets. Moreover to add, this is a New Age. And in this new age, people will be able to explore the Metaverse even more than they already do. Going to drop a blog link at the bottom from last year here after watching the pretty unimaginative VMA Snoop/ Eminem video. Remember the "Opposites Attract" video from Paula Abdul in 1988? It was a step up from that. Seriously, and Paula's video was far more innovative. With all that cash they could have made an experience, not a video. What if your avatar could jump in at any point? Copy the dance moves? Interact with the environment? What if AI could make Snoop or Slim react? This is just an animated video, not the metaverse. The team at for example are doing much bigger things and going in the right direction. Remember the Kinect from Microsoft? Released in 2010 it was a body tracking camera you could buy with the Xbox. In that decade since I'm pretty sure we could easily have had a home MoCap system with the Xbox Series X if really wanted to give power to creators again. Even that could have powered a better experience than the Bored Ape performance last night (emphasis on bored). Imagine sitting at home watching an immersive music video and then deciding to jump into the action and have fun? The power of Web3 and metaverse could have produced something far greater. A music video within the metaverse would no longer be bound by traditional 2D formatting, nor would a spectator. The combination of Unreal and Epic’s Metahumans would mean that you could place yourself as a viewer entirely within the volumetric environment of the music video and watch it from any angle, even walk/ fly/ move around at will while it plays out. I keep hearing people bleat about "but it's still early" and yet others were building music events in Second Life 15 years ago. Technology is not early - our imagination is.
