You need salespeople who are motivated, believe in your product, and are willing to put in the effort to drive growth. At Refocus, we treat the process of hiring salespeople like a marketing funnel for attracting leads: we attract candidates, warm them up as leads, and hire only the best of the best. But following this approach, effective hiring is always scalable by testing the best combinations of creative materials you use to attract people to your landing page. In our case, only 23% of the people we invite to the next stages of recruitment are “cold” leads who were never contacted without materials, know nothing about the company, and were found by the recruiters. Interview candidates in two steps Interviewing salespeople is a crucial step in the hiring process. The second stage of the interview process is a one-on-one interview with their future manager. This is an opportunity for the candidate to speak directly with someone who is experienced in sales and can provide more specific feedback on their abilities. During this interview, we ask more in-depth questions about their sales experience, including their successes and challenges. We also assess their compatibility with our company culture and values to ensure they will be a good fit for our team. Moreover, we ask about salary expectations once again: we are sure that people who want to earn only a minimum wage without performance bonuses will not become top performers. Programmers robotically write endless lines of software code. Feelings and emotions have no place here, right? Wrong. Crypto is utterly disruptive. It will not only shake the foundation of our external world — work and play— it will . Stepping into this new future will be emotionally disorienting. Up seems down, right seems wrong, and previous rules don’t apply. The transition will be painful. disrupt each of us internally In physics, there’s something called an . It’s the area surrounding a Black Hole. There are two important characteristics of an Event Horizon. Event Horizon , anything inside the Event Horizon’s perimeter, even light, gets hopelessly sucked into the black hole. The Event Horizon is a Point of No Return. First inside this Point of No Return, the laws of physics no longer apply. Rules we took as given, like gravity and energy, behave in unexpected ways. If it’s good enough for this guy, it’s good enough for us. You’ll often be wrong, so try to maintain your intellectual humility. CryptoLand will humble you early and often. 4. Lean in to the “Icky” and “Foggy” Concepts You Don’t Understand Many concepts in Crypto are Icky and Foggy. What does that mean? Tim Urban explains³: We all know what an icky item is. An icky item is vague and murky, and you’re not really sure where you’d start to understand it, or where you’d answer your questions about it. And: I look for those foggy spots…when someone mentions [a term], my mind kind of glazes over with a combination of “ugh it’s that icky term again nah go away” and “ew the adults are saying that adult thing again and I’m seven so I don’t actually understand what they’re talking about.” Then I’ll get reading about those foggy spots — but as I clear away fog from the surface, I often find more fog underneath. So then I research that new fog, and again, often come across other fog even further down. My perfectionism kicks in and I end up going down the rabbit hole until I hit the floor. Some of my personal Icky & Foggy terms: Blockchain, Bitcoin, Cryptography, Ledger, Mining, Hashing, and Money. Damn. Those are fundamentally important terms. It’s easy to give up, and most people will. Instead, lean into the ick and the fog. Break concepts down into smaller and smaller parts until you can digest them. Go where others are reluctant to go. 5. Relentlessly Protect Your Most Valuable Resources — Time & Attention Many in CryptoLand will tell you that your most precious resource is the cryptocurrency you purchase. This is wrong. The most valuable resources are your time and attention. And they’re under attack more frequently than any cryptocurrency you hold. Security matters. But the most dangerous hacking isn’t into your private keys, it’s into your mind. The main sources of information (Reddit, Telegram, Slack, Twitter) are chaotic. Novelty and noise badger you from all sides. Ignorance, charlatans, hidden agendas, and outright scams aren’t the exception, they’re the rule. So curate your information diet carefully. Personally, I still struggle with this, but identifying the problem is the first step. I recommend some resources below. Of course you also should take proper precautions to protect your crypto holdings. 6. The Emperor Wears No Clothes: No One Actually Knows Anything Anyone who claims to fully understand crypto is either lying or trying to sell you something. Often both. We’re all figuring it out as we go along. No one was born in CryptoWorld. So get over your imposter syndrome, because we are all an imposters. 7. Don’t Fall for People Hiding behind Jargon In CryptoLand, people will try to signal intelligence by using jargon. We’re at the intersection of economics, investing, law, & computer science. There is more jargon here than anywhere else on the internet. Don’t be fooled. The true sign of mastery isn’t using maximum jargon. Getting into Crypto is like Binge Watching a Great Show: It’s Not Too Late To Start You may feel like you’re hopelessly late to this game. Bitcoin has gone up ~3,000% in the past 2 years. You think you missed the boat. You haven’t. Only a tiny fraction of the world’s population owns cryptocurrency. Diverse voices backgrounds, and experiences So begin with Bitcoin Season 1, Episode 1, and get your binge on. Find the Valuable Resources No One Else is Reading In Zero to One⁴, Peter Thiel asks: “What secret do you know to be true that no one else believes?” In CryptoLand, you could ask: “What resources are valuable that nobody else is reading?” The best resources are “long-term” knowledge, not “expiring” knowledge⁵. The daily price change of Bitcoin is an example expiring knowledge. Anyone can instantly access it. It’s not valuable to you in 2 days let alone 2 years. Long-term knowledge comes from White Papers, Books, Canonical blog posts, and [gulp] actually the technology. There’s just enough friction that most people are too lazy to wrestle with them. Primary Source If you read what everyone else reads, you’ll think what everyone else thinks. 10. You Will Feel Overwhelmed. Stop. Breathe. Focus. At some point, you’ll feel overwhelmed, like there’s more content out there than you can possibly consume. That everyone knows more than you and you’re falling hopelessly behind. As noted above, this is a good sign. It’s a signal of actual comprehension. Remember that everyone else is experiencing this. Keep your head on straight when everyone else is losing theirs. Maintain focus. There’s opportunity in this chaos. 10 Things I Hate About Crypto In CryptoLand, you can learn anything, but not everything. A story I recently heard illustrates this: There’s a wanderer who’s been lost in the desert for weeks. He’s thirsty, so he starts digging a well looking for water. He gets about 1 foot deep, gets frustrated, and thinks he might have better luck in a few feet away. So he abandons the current well and starts digging close by. He gets 1 foot deep, but is again frustrated, and tries a new location. He does this 10 times, with 10 different holes. Eventually, he dies of thirst. What he didn’t know, is that a vast water supply existed 10 feet underground. If he’d persisted with any of the holes, and dug one 10-foot hole, instead of 10 1-foot holes, he would’ve been saved. Don’t get distracted by the latest flashy thing. Focus. Dig deep holes in your exploration. 11. Develop an Opinion, but Be Open to Change Balance unbridled optimism with relentless skepticism. If you can maintain this cognitive dissonance in your head, you’ll be well suited for CryptoLand We’re in a new paradigm, and much what’s happening is truly alien to us. To quote the Silicon Valley zeitgeist: you should have Strong Views, Weakly Held. 12. Be Open Source & Pay it Forward: Teaching is the Best way to Learn and Grow (your net worth). This entire Crypto revolution was built on the idea that open, decentralized, systems beat closed, centralized, systems. Web browsers beat AOL, Wikipedia beat Encarta, Linux beat IBM. Open systems show that and deliver the biggest impact for the most people. Be open source yourself. Share your learnings. transparency sharing Helping others learn is a morally good thing to do. You likely benefitted from the help of someone before you. Plus: Teaching someone else is the best way to for you to learn a concept yourself. Even better: Money is a “shared myth.” There’s no inherent worth to the paper or bytes that we call money. They have value because many people believe they do. And if you help spread this shared myth, then this innovation becomes more valuable to early believers like you. 13. Your “Normal” Friends Will Think You’re Crazy. Until you’re not. It isn’t 10 united tribes. It’s dozens of factions, and they’re usually at war with each other. The tribal infighting in Crypto rivals any hooliganism you’ll find —on par with politics, sports, and religion. Sure, you could join one of these tribes. However, a better approach is to keep your identity and your ego small⁶. Each tribe has something valuable to teach you. Learning is not Zero-Sum. So get comfortable with acronyms (FUD, HODL, BTFD), memes, gifs, trolls, reddit, snark, and other social currencies of these tribes. 15. Trust N̵o̵b̵o̵d̵y̵ Somebody: Find Your Guide There’s a depressing meme in CryptoWorld. “Trust Nobody.” It’s misguided. Yes, you shouldn’t trust Yes, you shouldn’t trust just But you need to trust everybody. anybody. somebody. Find yourself a guide. A sherpa who’s ahead of you on this journey, who you can ask your dumb questions. And as soon as you can, start offering to guide others. You’ll be amazed at how valuable you can be to people new to the space (endearingly called “n00bs”). This revolution stands on the shoulders of giants, and so does our personal knowledge. 16. Incentives are Everything Whether you’re analyzing a line of code, a white paper, or someone’s twitter feed, never forget this: Incentives. Are. Everything. Crypto is decentralized. Successful projects are driven by proper incentives, not central planning. Incentives are also important at the human level. When listening to someone state their point of view or recommendation, it’s healthy to ask why they’re saying what they’re saying. Not everyone is a fraudster, but remember that people “talk their book.” might 17. Experiment and Have Fun Getting Lost The final and most important rule. The best way to learn quickly is to actually use the technology. Buy something with Bitcoin. Struggle with using a decentralized app. Get a little dirty. It will feel messy and disorganized, but it’s the difference between reading about basketball and playing a game of 5-on-5. And of course, have fun. The Inner Game of Crypto

If you’d have googled dao only like 5 years ago, the majority of search results would have been about taoism (also known as daoism). It is an ancient philosophy and religion, that arose in the 6th century BCE in China. According to the , “The Tao can be roughly thought of as the flow of the Universe or as some essence or pattern behind the natural world that keeps the Universe balanced and ordered”. If you google it now, the results are mostly about “member-owned communities without centralized leadership”. Wikipedia Nowadays, things change very rapidly not only in Google search, which just reflects these changes. People create new forms of organization, invent new technologies and improve different spheres of life. But what we want to achieve is balance, we want to live in harmony with self, others, and nature. In the rapidly changing world it is getting more and more difficult to gain balance, and traditional organizations, which lack flexibility and can’t quickly adapt to changes, are beginning to be replaced by more flexible forms. That’s how the waterfall model was replaced by agile frameworks in software development. That’s how traditional business models are starting to be replaced by DAOs, a new experimental form of making business, which appeared due to the invention of blockchain. Balance in your life and the DAO In taoism the balance is summarised in Yin and Yang principles, which see the world with complementary forces, such as light and dark, active and inert, or hot and cold. They are everywhere in our lives. When we notice somebody goes to extremes, we want to go to the opposite extreme in an unconscious attempt to restore the balance. Here we need to remember that restoring the balance does not mean rejecting the opposite point of view, which only makes things worse. It is just adding color. If everything is getting too black, add white. If it’s all white, add black. The truth is always somewhere in between, and when you see the world in all its colors, you feel so alive and inspired… That’s what DAOs do. It’s not only about business and making money. What they try to do is to create a well-balanced organization that is like a self-evolving organism, and thus to get maximum efficiency and inspiration for all its members. In this ideal world, nothing should be imposed. Everyone should be heard, everyone’s opinion matters. Very much unlike boring centralized organizations, whose important decisions are driven by one person or a group of people, who often care only about money. DAOs still have a long way to go. Many of them are still insufficiently decentralized and have inconvenient tools for operating and decision-making. But it’s very interesting to see how they appear and evolve, the speed with which they gain devotees is impressive. My DAO experience It’s been a year since I participate in . Joystream is trying to build a decentralized video platform owned, controlled, and operated by its users. To involve people in its building and governance, it announced a Founding Members Program and is planning to allocate 20% of mainnet tokens to its participants. The program is very generous, but requires quite a lot of time and diving deep into things. For me, this experience started with pure curiosity, but gradually I became more and more devoted to the idea and philosophy of a DAO in general (I didn’t even know anything about DAOs before). Joystream DAO It’s like a job but gives you far more opportunities for self-expression and far more freedom. You can participate in working groups (devoting as much time as you want), choose Council members and even become a consul yourself, make proposals and suggest your ideas, create Bounties, and participate in them. For all these activities you get reputation and thus influence, testnet tokens, and if you achieve a Founding Member status, which usually takes several months of work, you will also get an allocation of mainnet tokens. The more you contribute, the more you’ll get! During my year’s involvement, I participated in several working groups, worked as a consul, did some translation tasks, made research and videos, and suggested different ideas. We had a lot of discussions and sometimes even quarrels, we formed political parties and debated with each other, we lost some participants during the stagnation phase and then acquired even more interesting contributors. But what was always the most important is the joy (that’s why it is Joystream, needless to say). You participate because you like it and you can always leave if you lose your joy. It’s not only about Joystream, it is about every DAO. Of course, some part of the motivation is always money, but it’s never the most important thing if you got involved in the DAO. The mission of the company, the way, and then just the process itself are becoming a real driving force. Joystream currently has a little more than 100 Founding Members, but they aim for something like 200, which still gives a lot of time and opportunities to contribute, so you can try yourself. Since the beginning, they tested two different models of the program and are still making a lot of improvements and experiments with everything. The goal is to create an effective and viable DAO by the time of mainnet, which is planned for December 2022. And in the mainnet, things are going to be even more exciting, because the budgets will explode, so a lot of money will be at stake — the total fundraise is roughly $13m at a $60m valuation. Imagine this sum will be governed entirely by token holders! Your money, your rules Joystream DAO has raised some money. It is not such a big sum compared to some other DAOs. If you open the “ ” page on Coinmarketcap, you’ll see that the biggest DAO project, Uniswap, has a 5 billion market cap. Almost the same as McDonald’s Japan, which currently has a capitalization. Gifs have already become an integral part of our culture. Though they've been around for some time (in fact, this format was released in 1987, according to the ), they’ve become especially popular and trendy with the widespread of social media platforms and messengers in recent years. Nowadays, gifs are even studied by the scientists and are used in marketing campaigns. For example, Chanel used this image format their email marketing in 2017, as you can see below. Wikipedia But this gif is obviously the bad example - it’s boring and does not convey strong emotions, which gifs are usually associated with. The wealthy and serious audience of Chanel is not the best target for experimenting with strong emotions and jokes. In general, gifs appeal more to tech-savvy millenials, and really help brands to connect with them. That’s why these animated pictures became so popular in the crypto space, they are even converted to NFTs and are sold for big money. For example, this NFT gif of Nyan Cat for 300 ETH (nearly $474000 even in the current bear market): was sold Do you still have doubts about gifs importance? I was reading reviews of HackerNoon on Glassdoor, and accidentally saw : “Team members don’t use enough GIFs in the Slack channel, this must be improved immediately”. This was stated as the only cons of the company in September 2020, so maybe things have improved since then… this One platform to rule them all If you made a gif and want to share it with your friends, you can just upload it like you do with your images and videos, or you may choose to store it online to allow other people to use it. There are several popular platforms for publishing your gifs: Giphy, Tenor, Tumblr, Gfycat… But Tenor has one important advantage - impressive network of partners, who embeds it to their platforms. Do you know that if you publish your gif on , it will be featured on gif search everywhere: on Twitter, Discord, Telegram, Whatsapp, Viber, Facebook? Maybe also on other platforms, as I named only those which I tried myself. tenor.com Only recently did I know about it, because as a worker of marketing group of Joystream DAO I was researching competitors and stumbled upon Call to Action Initiative, organized by a Hive marketer. In posts like he encourages community members to reply on the chosen tweet for Hive promotion. Then he says that he created a gifs library on Tenor, which can be used in these replies to catch more attention. this I thought it was a good idea to create such a library for Joystream, too. There were only 2 or 3 gifs related to Joystream, if you search on Tenor or other apps using it (on Telegram, for example). So I made some gifs and started to upload them on Tenor… Is it really Google? It was a very bad user experience, with quite a lot of bugs during the process (I will not describe all of them). For one thing, there were triple notifications for every gif: “Congrats! Your gif is now being featured in joystream!”. But when I searched by the tag #joystream, I could not find any of them. Instead, there were other gifs, unrelated to the keyword. For example, gifs tagged as #stream or even #hyeongseop (a South Korean duo, it turned out). A few days later some of my gifs did appear among the first results by the tag #joystream. I shared my excitement with community members, and some of them used them on Telegram (they were easy to find by the keyword “joystream”). But after a few more days, they disappeared again. I am talking about , by the way, if you think there is someting criminal in them. these gifs I studied Google Terms of Service (yes, the platform belongs to Google) and Tenor Additional Terms. Am I violating this: “You must not use Tenor for any commercial purpose or for the benefit of any third party”? Seems unlikely, as I’m not selling anything, I’ve just added some gifs with Joystream logo. I am definitely complying with the rules. They have a lot of gifs with Youtube logo, for example. There is just something wrong with their search algorithms. Ok, the keyword “joystream” might be used by a person who is looking for a “stream of joy”, and not for the Joystream DAO. But even in this interpretation, search results are far from perfect. I also experimented with another keyword, “Gleev”, which is the name of a video platform under construction. I made a gif with Gleev logo and uploaded it to Tenor, but it’s also somewhere in the bottom of search results for #gleev, so low that I could not find it. Instead, gifs under the tag #glee are shown first. These search algorithms imperfections are strange, given the fact that Tenor is owned by Google, which is a search engine giant. Why do we need an alternative In its current state, Tenor is very inconvenient to use by crypto community - there is a good chance you won’t find what you are looking for, using its search. Because of this, a lot of gifs created by the crypto community are just getting lost after their publication on Discord or somewhere else (as a Bounty task, for example), and are never used again. With this in mind, I decided to look for Tenor alternatives on blockchain, but surprisingly, I didn’t find any. Surprisingly, because there are already so many different crypto projects, including video platforms and NFT marketplaces, but there is still no crypto “online gif search engine and database” (the definition of Tenor on ). Some ecosystem projects make it possible to create such a platform on their blockchains (Joystream is just one example), but nobody has ever tried to do it. Wikipedia If a good blockchain alternative to Tenor would be created, would Elon Musk, who has recently bought Twitter, replace Tenor by it on this platform? Well, he might, given his love of blockchain. Would other social media platforms and messengers follow? They always follow the trend, and crypto is becoming a trend indeed, so why not?

Introduction Sentiment analysis has been predominantly used in data science for analysis of customer feedbacks on products and reviews. They are used to understand user ratings on different kinds of products, hospitality services like travel, hotel bookings. It has also become popular to analyse user tweets — positive, negative or neutral by crawling twitter through APIs. In this article, we talk about sentiment analysis of the upcoming Lokshobha Elections for Congress and BJP by crawling tweets from different hashtags of either parties, party leaders, as well as news hashtags like NDTV. The sentiments analysed covers different user-reactions not only restricted to positive or negative sentiments but covers an in-depth analysis of various positive and negative moods along with the results of different ML models. We categorise the analytics and machine learning into 3 sections: Crawling, cleaning data and labelling un-structured data by using/mapping known English words from various sourcesApplying Natural Language based classifiers used for text processing to train tweets and predict moodsApplying standard machine learning algorithms and deep learning to do multi-class mood classification for 2 prominent parties in the election The objective of this blog is to highlight mechanisms for labelling tweets, and classifying and summarising them from different viewpoints. Crawl Weekly tweets and Merge: We crawl tweets on a weekly basis and merge them with previous weeks to have an overall prediction over a period of few months. The system is designed to learn from tweets every week and consolidates results by eliminating duplicate tweets. The following mood labels Joy, Sadness, Arousal, Dominance, Neutral, Anger, Fear, Faith(Support) were assigned to tweets by taking the strongest mood in the sentence, by taking each word from the sentence into account, along with the emoji in consideration. For example, the overall mood of the sentence is Dominance when each word in the sentence have the following moods. The lexicon dictionary for 25,000 words are dowloaded from NRC Word -Emotion Association Lexicon (Reference 2). If certain words in a sentence are missing from Vader or the specific mood type is missing, TextBlob is used to determine positive/negative sentiment of the word. For example, for the following tweet “I request all fellow Indians to get rid of this clown coming elections. Please vote wisely”, the word “wisely” encounters a Valence score of 0.878, but it does not differentiate between positive (Joy)/negative (Sadness/Anger) mood, which necessitates a further lookup of word polarity through TextBlob. Finally with a positive score of 0.7 its labelled as sentiment of “Joy”. While affectual score and TextBlob determines mood of each word, SentimentIntensityAnalyzer is used to calculate the overall polarity of a sentence. It uses Vader’s lexicon (Reference 2) which rates individual words (present in the lexicon) in a sentence on a scale of highly negative to highly positive. For example, for a tweet, “We stand rock solid behind you @narendramodi Our party has performed well under all odds, we will do better in” has few words in the lexicon with score as “solid”: 0.6, “party” : 1.7, “well” :1.1 and “better” 1.9 These word ratings help to derive four sentiment metrics to represent the proportion the tweet falls under it. ‘compound’: 0.8074, ‘neg’: 0.0, ‘neu’: 0.632, ‘pos’: 0.368 This explains the tweet is how much positive, negative or neutral. The compound score have been standardised to range between -1 and 1 and is calculated by calculating the normalized sum (normalize(sum_s)) of all of individual word ratings (0.6, 1.7, 1.1, 1.9) present in the lexicon. max_mood_item = max(mood_freq_dist.items(), key=operator.itemgetter( ))[ ] 1 0 All tweets vary in intensity from -1 to +1. As the below figures shows strong positive sentiments like “Joy” and “Faith” incline more 0 to +1 for both BJP and Congress, while negative sentiments like “Anger” and “Sadness” incline more between -1 to 0. “Neutral” sentiment is centred around zero. Sentiments like “Arousal” and “Dominance” are more or less distributed equally between -1 to +1 which signify they can be either tweeted in a positive or negative mind. For example, the tweet “In 2014 when Modi elected PM candidate, people eected change will happen” records “Dominance” with positive sentiment . While the tweet “2019 elections will be fought on completely different lines’, says @amitmalviya, National Spokesperson, BJP in conversation” records a negative sentiment because of the word “fought”. Sentiment IntensityAnalyzer calculates the compound metric of the tweet as -0.3182, while positive, negative and neutral scores are 0.0, 0.247 and 0.753 respectively. Further rating the word “fought” in terms of “Valence” — (Joy/Sadness/Anger/Fear/Faith), “Arousal” or “Dominance”, the measurements are “Valence” : 0.531, “Arousal” : 0.809, “Dominance” : 0.868, justifying the predominance of “Dominance” mood. Similarly, both positive and negative sentiments can be observed with “Arousal” mood. “Arousal” incorporates any feeling that causes state change or prompts to rise and undertake any activity. The tweet “Govt today introduced a bill in to make provisions regarding recognition of, drawing opposition from the as well as the CPI(M) which staged a walkout calling it a ‘draconian and unconstitutional’ legislation” records a compound score of -0.3182 showing a negative “Arousal” sentiment. While the tweet “God bless you all. Now do the job well, Dems, it’s been way too long since it was done properly. Show them how it’s done” is a positive “Arousal” sentiment with a compound score of 0.95 . The upper and bottom figures demonstrate how sentiments differ for Congress and BJP. The most visually distinguishing aspects are seen in the 2 sentiments “Faith” and “Arousal”. BJP records a higher recording in “Faith” while Congress shows higher predominance of “Arousal”. The following figure illustrates tweet that belongs to both BJP and Congress. “Dominance” is still seen as the predominant mood. A sample tweet involving both parties : “Very close fight in . Sentiment Representation by WordCloud The different kinds of tweet sentiments are represented by means of different WordClouds. WordClouds are ideal representatives of labelled sentiments as the most common words specific to a mood appear bigger and bolded than other less frequent words. WordClouds are fast and easy mechanism of representing the most relevant words for a theme or context. Its one of the most convenient ways to convey information visually appealing and engaging manner. Here 2 different sentiments of BJP “Faith/Support” and “Fear” are represented by 2 different WordClouds. Conclusion This post mainly discusses about labelling tweets from known word dictionaries and rating them between -1 and 1 . It further compares BJP and Congress side by side considering tweet sentiments, frequency of different tweet sentiments, commonly used words in tweets (anar-grams 1–2 words), location of users who tweeted as well as the most popular tweets obtained from the retweet count.
