Scary-good Writing Tips: Learn How to Write a Listicle

Edmund Hillary, a New Zealand mountaineer, once said, “It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.” In the scorching heat of the business landscape, your company is a thirsty caravan desperate for insights to guide its journey. But beware, for many, their data strategy resembles a cracked water bottle in the desert – leaking potential and leading nowhere. Are you ready to quench your company's thirst for success with those three simple steps? Many leaders, desperate for a solution, picture a grand data strategy – a sprawling oasis filled with complex architecture and expensive tools. They gather their "data people," spend heavily, and build this technical utopia.  But here's the surprising truth: most companies never reach that oasis. Why? Because data strategy isn't about the bells and whistles. It's about clear, actionable goals. Set Clear KPIs! Start with the Destination, Not the Journey Think of your data strategy as a roadmap.  Before diving into infrastructure or systems, define the 3-5 key performance indicators (KPIs) that truly measure your company's health.  These are your North Stars, guiding everyone toward what matters most, and are the top of your priority to secure. In my book “Data is Like a Plate of Hummus’ which is based on my experience as a data leader and consultant, I many times refer to the KPIs refinement process as a funnel structure, keep things simple, keep them small, just like hummus, a very simple dish but with such powers to fill you stomach for the entire day, in my book I describe my method of refining the KPIs by starting with a set of questions, then pick the most relevant questions, and define which KPIs can answer them, the next step is to identify what action they will drive which gives you the indication to how often you will need it, sometimes seeing a KPI related to time on site every second week with the release cycles can help you understand if the new releases improved or not the user experience, you don’t need to see it daily as it will have nothing to the action of it. Next, establish data governance rules.  This isn't about restrictions but about setting expectations. When will the data be ready? What is the one true source of the data?  Who owns it? How quickly will issues be resolved?  Clear agreements create a supportive system between data users and providers.  Everyone knows their roles and what to do "when the you-know-what hits the fan" (because, let's face it, it will!). In many companies, the idea of data is that everything is important and needs to be used, but in reality, some data is less important than others 🦖.  This led us to hire more engineers and analysts and increase our investment in infrastructure, but as I mentioned a few times in previous articles and my book, will more than 5 KPIs change the decision that needs to be taken? If you need more than that, restart the process of defining your KPIs; you did something wrong there! When you start with too many KPIs it means that you need a consultant each time you need to change something in the dashboard, is it worth it? If you arrive at a meeting and one KPI shows two numbers, can you decide based on it? During my career, I learned an important thing: it’s enough that the data consumer spotted twice an error in the dataset, you lost their trust forever, and from this point, they will check the numbers before they believe you that the numbers are right, generating a few extra hours of work for validation, building a positive trust from the beginning with a system, that can notify the moment there is an issue with the data will save you long term extra investment and hustle! Building Scalable and Iterative Infrastructure Building Your Data Oasis: One Step at a Time Now that you know what data you need, let's talk infrastructure.  Think fast, affordable deployment. Forget a one-size-fits-all approach.  Start with a basic system that can be easily upgraded.  Treat it like a product platform, evolving in cycles.  Each cycle focuses on either improving infrastructure or optimizing costs. The truth is, as a user, you don't care if your data lives in a fancy mansion (Snowflake) or a sturdy apartment building (S3). What matters is getting accurate, timely data. Your team needs to think about how they maximize the buy/build approach for the first iteration because they will learn all the time about what works well and what does not, as well as where the issues lay. The main purpose of picking infrastructure should be to empower, first and foremost, the health metrics you picked and give open for more analysis to be done by the analyst. It needs to be something that will be easy to switch or optimize. But for me, the more important part of the infrastructure is to launch something I can test with the users and learn how it functions for them, whether they see issues or not, and as so, don’t deploy and forget until it breaks, the data people needs to go around and collect feedback, learn the use cases of people with the data and map and prioritize it in the road map. Now that Super Tuesday has taken place in America, it seems clear that we'll be treated to a rematch of the 2020 presidential duel in America. Donald Trump has been dreaming of this for the past 4 years, and now he'll be able to take on Joe Biden again for revenge. Donald Trump's goal seems obvious: to return to the White House so he can wage his vendetta against all those he deems traitors. , it would seem that Joe Biden has his work cut out for him. With the slogan “It's the economy stupid” seemingly no longer an election staple I'm not for Joe Biden or Donald Trump because I believe that both will pursue disastrous policies that will continue to worsen the situation. It can't be otherwise, because beyond the politicians, the current system is flawed. All these politicians can't change the situation. The system won't be fixed, and the revolution will come from the people. This revolution is embodied by Bitcoin. That said, something is astonishing. While , Donald Trump is now enthusiastic about Bitcoin. Bitcoin has just beaten a new ATH above $72K and entered uncharted territories . He was interviewed a few hours ago on Squawk Box Here's where Donald Trump talks about Bitcoin: “Sometimes we'll let people pay through Bitcoin...it's an additional form of currency.” The most blinkered optimists went straight to ultra-bullish thinking that Donald Trump was now pro-Bitcoin. These people almost forgot what he said a little later about possible competitors to the US dollar: “I would not allow countries to go off the dollar, because when we lose that standard, that will be like losing a revolutionary war.” Donald Trump has become a true politician since he can say two contradictory things in the same televised speech. You can't be pro-Bitcoin and then say that you'll do anything to protect the hegemony of the US dollar over the world. These are two contradictory things. As Hillary Clinton has said in the past, “Bitcoin has the potential of undermining the role of the dollar as a reserve currency.” Bitcoin's potential goes far beyond replacing gold as a reference store of value for the general public. Quite simply, . Bitcoin has the potential to become the world's next reserve currency From now on, you need to learn to read between the lines and understand that Donald Trump was not Bullish on Bitcoin. Far from it! He wants to capitalize on Bitcoin's current popularity to try and make people think he's different from Joe Biden and get more votes for the 2024 presidential election. Remember what Donald Trump said about Bitcoin in 2019: Donald Trump had even tasked some of his staff with finding a way to ban Bitcoin ... LOL ... So, have no illusions. Donald Trump won't do any better than Joe Biden on Bitcoin. In fact, in his 2024 program, Joe Biden is proposing a 30% tax on the electricity consumed by Bitcoin Miners. Something disgraceful, designed to pave the way for the arrival of a Digital Dollar in the future. . This Digital Dollar will be the worst thing for your privacy All these politicians will do nothing but protect the current system, in which the American dollar is king. For those who doubt this, look to the past, and you'll see why Americans have gone to war so often in past decades. The latest example relates to Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. Shortly before Gaddafi's fall, Libya had a plan to create a pan-African currency based on the Libyan dinar backed by its 143 tons of gold reserves, as revealed in an April 2011 email from Sidney Blumenthal, found in the Clinton documents leaked to the Net by Wikileaks. Gaddafi imagined breaking French hegemony over the former African colonies by offering an alternative to the CFA franc and using the weight of his nearly 2 million barrels of daily oil production. At one time, Gaddafi was also talking about denominating his oil exports in euros. In short, Gaddafi's ambition was to undermine the exorbitant privileges that Westerners granted themselves in Africa. It will then come as no surprise that a coalition led by America, France, and the UK took it upon themselves to put an end to Gaddafi's regime in Libya. Of course, I wouldn't say that Gaddafi was a democrat, far from it. He was a dictator, but what must be shocking here is the radical reversal of position on the part of Westerners, who had no hesitation in inviting Gaddafi to their homes in style, as President Sarkozy did in December 2007 at the Elysée Palace. It was later revealed that Gaddafi's Libyan regime had paid 50 million euros to finance Nicolas Sarkozy's 2007 French presidential campaign. The official amount of Sarkozy's 2007 presidential campaign was 20 million euros ... I'll stop there, but you can do your research on these subjects to understand that these politicians will do anything to protect the current system. None is better than the other. The real revolution comes from Bitcoin, and it's by supporting the Bitcoin revolution that the people will be able to regain power. But to do this, we need to put speculation aside and focus on , to take full advantage of . the why of Bitcoin the liberating power of the Bitcoin revolution Quite a program, you may say! Table of Links Introduction The Project Memes Conclusion and References CONCLUSION The analysis of the interactions and dialogues that took place during the therapeutic laboratory for autonomies endorsed with the inclusion of the Pepper robot provided an interesting perspective on the communication dynamics of children in the lab. The results obtained showed the effectiveness of the robot in promoting autonomy and functional acquisition, demonstrating that the therapeutic method based on assistive robotics is a valuable resource to support the rehabilitation needs of communication and social skills of autistic children. The analysis highlights new possibilities for their engagement and active participation as a co-designer, as we already experienced in the past with neuro-typical children [19], representing an innovative opportunity to promote the development and wellness of autistic people and opening to new perspectives for therapeutic intervention more aware of the needs of autistic minds. In conclusion, this paper highlights the need to provide the robot with the ability of adapt to the children’s peculiarity and features and sharing her/his vocabulary, especially by recognizing and using memes during interactions, to inspire greater trust in children and allowing the use of common slang, already in use with classmates, allowing them to consider Pepper a peer and effectively insert it in the role of mediator. In addition, it would allow children to use a simplified type of communication during meetings to compensate for the typical communication deficits associated with autism spectrum disorders. In the future we will work in this directions (co-design, user’s adaptations, using and recognizing memes during children-robot communication) having the robot able to communicate and express adapting to user tastes and preferences and and try again to field a real-world evaluation that takes into account the effectiveness of different levels of user adaptation [23]. ConstitutionMaker’s design is informed by a formative study, where we also collected and classified the types of principles users wanted to write. ConstitutionMaker incorporates three principle-elicitation features: kudos, critique, and rewrite. In a user study with 14 industry professionals, participants felt that ConstitutionMaker helped them (1) write principles that effectively guided the chatbot, (2) convert their feedback into principles more easily, and (3) write principles more efficiently, with (4) less mental demand than the baseline. This was due to ConstitutionMaker supporting their thought processes, including helping them to: identify ways to improve the bot’s responses, convert their intuition into verbal feedback, and phrase their feedback as specific principles. There are many avenues of future work, including supporting users in iterating on and clarifying their principles, organizing larger sets of principles and supporting multiple writers, and helping users test chatbots across multiple user journeys. Together, these findings inform future tools that support interactively customizing LLM outputs. The idea of forming an association of persons thus mutually interested in each other's occupations, is an excellent one; but it has been suggested by a number of scientific gentlemen that the American Association for the Advancement of Science offers every facility for the accomplishment of the objects set forth in the circular, while it affords the very great advantage of an assemblage of men learned in all departments of knowledge, whose acquaintance mining engineers would do well to make, and from whom they could learn much, while at the same time imparting of their own knowledge. As a section of the American Association, the mining engineers would have more influence before the country, and it would perhaps be well for them to stop and consider before establishing a separate institute. I confess it appeared to me, that as a whole, those adjudications did us credit, although I doubted the propriety of many individual cases. As, however, the Council seem to have had a different opinion, and as I had made the application through courtesy, I shall decline printing a list, every individual portion of which has been already published in many ways, although the whole has never been printed in a collected form.
