Philanthropy is one use-case for cryptocurrency that is overlooked and not understood by a lot of crypto users. Whilst most projects in the space are busy building new blockchain networks, Defi protocols, games, and metaverses, other projects are focused on trying to tackle issues facing the world and the people who inhabit it. A crypto-first crowdfunding platform named was developed by Binance after the turmoil in Ukraine. The platform enables users to donate Bitcoin to aid refugees and children in need. Users can also help refugees by providing food, gasoline, and supplies via the fund. As of today, about 60% of the fund's $20 million goals have been raised so far. Ukraine Emergency Relief Fund Binance Charity believes that cryptocurrency contributions provide more transparency in the utilization of funds. Unlike fiat currency, crypto donations can be monitored until they reach their destination, which Binance has used for its charity platform from its inception in 2018. 2. Philcoin is a Binance Smart Chain (BSC) philanthropy project. By promoting the spread of relevant skills within communities of interest, Philcoin hopes to drive global development by addressing the problem of unequal access to technology in emerging nations. Philcoin Most people in developing countries don't have access to the kinds of technologies that are common in modern economies. Access to banking services and credit, which are the backbones of developed economies, is also very limited in less-developed communities, where it would be most useful to have access. The goal of the platform is to build an ecosystem that includes different kinds of communication infrastructures and where normal online interactions also lead to skill-creation, distribution, and development. This will allow users to make money from their efforts while doing normal online things like chatting, looking for entertainment, or getting other services that make money. The platform plans to leverage its educational resources and partnerships to enable users to earn its native token $PHL in exchange for partaking in the IoT space. The token will be used primarily within their app, PHILApp, which aims to provide education on soft skills and technology to unbanked users. HappyCoin is a cryptocurrency project that is dedicated to tackling mental health issues by donating money to mental health organizations every week. Funds are raised via a charity wallet that retains 3.5% of the initial token supply. This wallet is then used to finance donations with previous donations including: HappyCoin $20,000 donation to to help fund summer camps for kids who have lost a family member. Experience Camps $50,000 donation to to help with the provision of a home for disadvantaged kids. Mercy Home for Boys & Girls $50,000 to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention ( ) to help educate the public about mental health issues, and suicide prevention and support people who have been affected by the suicide of a loved one. AFSP The promotion of mental health awareness is one of the core principles of the project and they have provided incentives for token holders to encourage the growth of the project. For example, the project has a 10% tax that is charged on every transaction made with its native token $HAPPY. Out of this tax 5% is burned to reduce the token supply and the remaining 5% is redistributed to token holders. According to the World Health Organization ( ), mental illness, neurological problems, and substance abuse make up 10% of the global disease burden. Almost everyone on Earth has been affected in some way by these issues or knows somebody who has been affected. Aquari is an organization that works to protect the environment and is powered by cryptocurrency. Its goal is to return the oceans on Earth to their original, clean and unpolluted state. Aquari The project isn't just a token. They aim to create a system that will change how people finance efforts to protect the environment in our modern world. At the moment, organizations that work to protect the environment must go to multimillionaires, billionaires, and corporate sponsors to get enough money to stay in business. There are many problems with the way things are done now. The first problem is that many corporations have decided that the most important things are those that make money (or add value). Most of the time, this has worked well enough to distribute resources and coordinate supply chains in the many industries where a profit incentive is easy to use. But in fields where it's hard to make a profit, such as environmental conservation, this has failed horribly. This is because no one has yet found a way to make protecting our environment profitable. How to Make Money Using ChatGPT: Inspired by Gangnam Style

OpenAI’s ChatGPT Armed with such potential, Microsoft and Google have [2] that combine them with traditional search engines. announced new services The new wave of conversation-powered search engines has the potential to answer complex questions naturally, summarize search results, and even serve as a creative tool. However, in doing so, tech companies now face a greater ethical challenge to ensure that their models do not mislead users with false, ungrounded, or conflicting answers. Hence, the question naturally arises: Can ChatGPT-like models guarantee factual accuracy? In this article, we uncover several factual mistakes in [9] and [3] which suggest that they currently cannot. Microsoft’s new Bing Google’s Bard Unfortunately, false expectations can lead to disastrous results. Around the same time as Microsoft’s new Bing announcement, Google hastily announced a new conversational AI service named Bard. Despite the hype, expectations were quickly shattered when Bard made a factual mistake in the [14], eventually [4] by nearly 8% and wiping $100 billion off its market value. promotional video tanking Google’s share price On the other hand, there has been less scrutiny regarding Microsoft’s new Bing. In the [8], we found that the new Bing recommended a rock singer as a top poet, fabricated birth and death dates, and even made up an entire summary of fiscal reports. demonstration video Despite [9] that the new Bing’s responses may not always be factual, overly optimistic sentiments may inevitably lead to disillusionment. disclaimers Hence, our goal is to draw attention to the factual challenges faced by conversation-powered search engines so that we may better address them in the future. What Factual Mistakes Did Microsoft’s New Bing Demonstrate? Microsoft released the new Bing search engine powered by AI, claiming that it will revolutionize the scope of traditional search engines. Is this really the case? We dived deeper into the [8] and [9], and found three main types of factual issues: demonstration video examples Claims that conflict with the reference sources. Claims that don’t exist in the reference sources. Claims that don’t have a reference source, and are inconsistent with multiple web sources. Fabricated numbers in financial reports: be careful when you trust the new Bing! To our surprise, the new Bing fabricated an entire summary of the financial report in the demonstration! When Microsoft executive Yusuf Mehdi showed the audience how to use the command “key takeaways from the page” to auto-generate a summary of the [10a], he received the following results Gap Inc. 2022 Q3 Fiscal Report However, upon closer examination, all the key figures in the generated summary are inaccurate. We will show excerpts from the original financial report below as validating references. According to the new Bing, the operating margin after adjustment was 5.9%, while it was actually 3.9% in the source report. Similarly, the adjusted diluted earnings per share were generated as $0.42, while it should be $0.71. Regarding net sales, the new Bing’s summary claimed “growth in the low double digits”, while the original report stated that “net sales could be down mid-single digits”. In addition to the generated figures which conflicted with actual figures in the source report, we observe that the new Bing may also produce hallucinated facts that do not exist in the source. In the new Bing’s generated summary, the “operating margin of about 7% and diluted earnings per share of $1.60 to $1.75” are nowhere to be found in the source report. Unfortunately, the situation worsened when the new Bing was instructed to “compare this with Lululemon in a table”. The financial comparison table generated by the new Bing contained numerous mistakes: This table, in fact, is half wrong. Out of all the numbers, 3 out of 6 figures are wrong in the column for Gap Inc., and same for Lululemon. As mentioned before, Gap Inc.’s true operating margin is 4.6% (or 3.9% after adjusting), and diluted earnings per share should be $0.77 (or $0.71 after adjusting). The new Bing also claimed that Gap Inc.’s cash and cash equivalents amounted to $1.4 billion, while it was actually $679 million. According to [10b], the gross margin should be 55.9%, while the new Bing claims it’s 58.7%. Lululemon’s 2022 Q3 Fiscal Report The operating margin should be 19.0%, while the new Bing claims it to be 20.7%. The diluted earnings per share were actually $2.00, while the new Bing claims it to be $1.65. So, where did these figures come from? You may be wondering whether it’s a number that was misplaced from another part in the original document. The answer is no. Curiously, these numbers are nowhere to be found in the original document and are entirely fabricated. In fact, it is still an open research challenge to constrain the outputs of generative models to be more factually grounded. Plainly speaking, the popular generative AI models such as ChatGPT are picking words to generate from a fixed vocabulary, instead of strictly copying and pasting facts from the source. Hence, factual correctness is one of the innate challenges of generative AI and cannot be strictly guaranteed with current models. This is a major concern when it comes to search engines as users rely on the results to be trustworthy and factually accurate. Japanese top poet: secretly a rock singer? We observe that the new Bing produces factual mistakes not just for numbers but also for personal details of specific entities, as shown in the response above when the new Bing was queried about “top Japanese poets”. The generated date of birth, death, and occupation factually conflict with the referenced source. According to [11a] and [11a], Eriko Kishida was born in 1929 and died in 2011. She was not a playwright and essayist, but a children’s book author and translator. Wikipedia IMDB The new Bing continued blundering when it proclaimed Gackt as a top Japanese poet when he is in fact a famous rockstar in Japan. According to the [11b], he is an actor, musician, and singer. There is no information on him publishing poems of any kind in the source. Wikipedia source Following Bing’s nightclub recommendations? You could be facing a closed door. Furthermore, the new Bing made a list of possible nightclubs to visit in Mexico City when asked “Where is the nightlife?”. Alarmingly, almost all the clubs’ opening times are wrongly generated: We cross-checked the opening times with multiple sources, which are also appended at the end of the article. While [12a] actually opens from 7:00 pm to 3:00 am from Tuesday to Sunday, new Bing claims it to be “open from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm from Tuesday to Sunday”. El Almacen [12b] actually opens from 6:00 pm to 2:30 am from Thursday to Saturday, but is claimed to be “open from 6:00 pm to 3:00 am from Thursday to Sunday”. El Marra [12c] is open from 5:30 pm to 1:30 am or 12:30 am every day, while new Bing claims it to be “open from 8:00 pm to 3:00 am every day”. Guadalajara de Noche Besides opening times, almost all the descriptions on review stars and numbers mentioned by the new Bing are inaccurate. Matching review scores cannot be found despite searching on Yelp, Tripadvisor, or Google Maps. In addition to the cases mentioned above, we also found other issues in their demonstration video, such as product price mismatches, store address errors, and time-related mistakes. Potential Concerns in the Limited Bing Demo Although the new Bing search engine is not fully accessible yet, we can examine a handful of [9] provided by Microsoft. The lack of factual grounding and failure to cite a complete list of sources could lead users to question the trustworthiness of the new Bing. What Factual Mistakes Did Google’s Bard Demonstrate? [3]. Instead of typing in traditional search queries, users can have a casual and informative conversation with the web-powered chatbot. Google also unveiled a conversational AI service called Bard For example, a user may initially ask about the best constellations for stargazing, and then follow up by asking about the best time of year to see them. However, a clear disclaimer is that Bard may give “inaccurate or inappropriate information”. Let’s investigate the factual accuracy of Bard in their [14] and [15]. Twitter post video demonstration Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently posted a [14] to demonstrate the capabilities of Bard. However, the answer contained an error regarding which telescope captured the first exoplanet images, which was [16a]. short video quickly pointed out by astrophysicists As confirmed by [16b], the first images of an exoplanet were captured by the Very Large Telescope (VLT) instead of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). NASA Unfortunately, Bard turned out to be a costly experiment as [4] after news of the factual mistake was reported. How Do Bing and Bard Compare? The new Bing and Bard services may not be equally trustworthy in practice. This is due to factors such as the quality of search results, the quality of conversational models, and the transparency of the provided answers. Currently, both services rely on relevant information sources to guide the responses of their conversational AI models. Hence, the factual accuracy of the answers depends on the quality of the [18], and how well the conversational model can generate answers that are factually grounded to the information sources. information retrieval systems As the full details of the services are not released to the public, it’s unclear which one can achieve higher factual accuracy without deeper testing. On the other hand, we feel that transparency is just as important as trustworthiness. For instance, we observe that the new Bing is more transparent regarding the source of its answers, as it provides reference links in most cases. This enables users to independently conduct fact-checking, and we hope that future conversational services also provide this feature. How Can the Factual Limitations Be Addressed? Through the numerous factual mistakes shown above, it is clear that conversational AI models such as ChatGPT may produce conflicting or non-existent facts even when presented with reliable sources. As mentioned previously, it is a pressing research challenge to ensure the factual grounding of ChatGPT-like models. Due to their generative nature, it is difficult to [19] and even harder to guarantee that the generated output is factually consistent with the information sources. control their outputs A short-term solution could be to impose restrictions to prevent conversational AI from producing unsafe or unfactual outputs. However, malicious parties can eventually [7], while [20] is another unsolved research challenge. bypass the safety restrictions fact verification In the long term, we may have to accept that human and machine writers alike will likely remain imperfect. To progress toward more trustworthy AI, conversational AI models like ChatGPT cannot remain as [21]. inscrutable black boxes They should be fully transparent about their data sources and potential biases, report when they have low confidence in their answers, and explain their reasoning processes. What Does the Future Hold for ChatGPT-like Models? After a systematic overview, we have found significant factual limitations demonstrated by the new wave of search engines powered by conversational AI like ChatGPT. Despite disclaimers of potential factual inaccuracy and warnings to use our judgment before making decisions, we encountered many factual mistakes even in the cherry-picked demonstrations. Thus, we cannot help but wonder: What is the purpose of search engines, if not to provide reliable and factual answers? In a new era of the web filled with AI-generated fabrications, how will we ensure truthfulness? Despite the massive resources of tech giants like Microsoft and Google, the current ChatGPT-like models cannot ensure factual accuracy. Even so, we are still optimistic about the potential of conversational models and the development of more trustworthy AI. Models like ChatGPT have shown great potential and will undoubtedly improve many industries and aspects of our daily lives. However, if they continue to generate fabricated content and unfactual answers, the public may become even warier about artificial intelligence. Therefore, rather than criticizing specific models or companies, we hope to call on researchers and developers to focus on improving the transparency and factual correctness of AI services, allowing humans to place a higher level of trust in the new technology in the foreseeable future. “ ” — IT industry is very lucrative right now, and a lot of people consider changing their occupation. I have been doing programming for a while, and people sometimes ask me for advice on starting up their careers in IT. A lot of these questions are similar, so I thought, why don’t I put them on my blog. I want to become a programmer, and I have a few questions… Disclaimer: everything below is nothing more than my opinion, based on my own experience and may diverge from common sense. Should I do it or not? My deep belief is that you should love (or at least like) what you do, no matter what it is. The best way to figure out if you like programming or not is to give it a shot. Try learning something simple and see if it amuses you. It is a good sign if you get excited when you type in a few lines of code and a computer (a piece of rock, metal, and plastic) starts doing what you told it to do. Small things such as beeping, blinking or printing “ ” should be perceived as a little wonder. See if after learning the basics, you naturally want to learn more. Or, if you are already going through a training program, see if you spend extra time learning more material or trying out more things on your own, without any incentive.Programmer’s job is unrewarding and dull most of the time, is real. Natural curiosity in the subject allows you to work on problems longer, without asking yourself why you are doing that. Working on problems longer allows you solve them, get the reward and be happy.So, if you tried programming and could not find any passion — better do not do it at all, it will be hard to progress, and you will have very little satisfaction from work. Otherwise, I do not see a reason not to become a techie. Hello World! professional burnout Do I need a Computer Science degree? It is a controversial question. Generally speaking, all you need is the right mindset and some skills, both you can acquire by yourself. However, if I had an option of getting a proper education or going straight to work, I would choose an education. It is true that you will not get much of a hands-on experience and will not be able to put a bunch of fancy technologies on your resume after 4–5 years of college. However, having to solve mathematical and algorithmic puzzles for a continuous period, drastically affects the way you think and forms that “techy mindset” in your brain. Knowing the basics and being able to explain anything, that computer does, in the tiniest details expands your horizons and will keep helping you every day throughout your career. Also, do not underestimate the power of the network, you acquire in college. Often it is the most powerful network people have in their lives. Many current students are good at telling you how useless is their education but most will change their opinion in a few years after starting a professional career. I am one of them.So, no, you do not need a CS degree to become a programmer and find your first job. But if you have an opportunity to get one — just go and get it, it will not be a waste of time. What about online courses, coding boot camps, crash courses, etc.? It depends. The demand for an IT education is high, and there is no shortage of supply. A lot of these things are very young and created with a single goal of making their owner rich. So, the quality of education there may suffer. Do not expect to find there any information that is not available online for free. Also, do not expect to acquire an in-depth fundamental knowledge — three months can not fit what barely fits in four years. A few things that I would expect are: Get acquainted with the IT and find an “entry point” when you are completely new to it and have no idea where to start. Get some guidance on what to read and what to do. Surround yourself with people who have the same problem (getting into IT). Get some introductions to help you land your first job (do not expect too much). Use it as a forcing function until you figure out whether you like IT or not and be ready for self-education. In general, self-education is the most powerful thing in IT, so expect to get 90% of knowledge by yourself, by reading the internet, books, and working on projects. Short time programs can be helpful, but be careful. Do your research before investing time and money, try to find alumni on LinkedIn and ask their honest opinion. What should I do for my self-education? There are so many things you can do by yourself, so let me share some suggestions. Read the books. If you have time for thick books, try reading some classics like , or or (even if you are not going to do C++). Good books are usually well structured and give a comprehensive knowledge of the subject. Try to avoid books about specific technologies and libraries. They typically do not focus on fundamental principles, get outdated quickly and often just re-phrase the documentation. Introduction to Algorithms Computer Networks By Andrew S. Tanenbaum The C++ Programming Language Try coding contests like , or . If you do it long enough, you will improve your algorithmic thinking, ability to write a bug-free code fast and get a ton of debugging experience. The competitive component will keep you motivated and add a drop of adrenaline if you participate in big, worldwide contests. Topcoder Codeforces Kaggle Come up with real-world ideas for practice (they do not have to be big). It is much more fun to work on something that people can use, rather than a templated “ ” or a “ ” assignment from a book. Ideally, plan not just to finish the coding part but also launch the project and attract some users. You will get not only a lot of satisfaction but also a real thing to put on your resume. If you are in college — finish your education, otherwise get into the industry ASAP. That, in most cases, means find an internship. IT world looks much different from inside the company, and you want to see it from there. You want to surround yourself with more experienced people, get mentorship and start working on real-life challenges. All three problems are best solved by joining a real company. What about freelancing? Freelancing is a very special thing, and I do not think it is good for starting, although I myself started from doing some simple HTML work remotely. Freelancing may work financially well if you live in a country with a low cost of living and can work for customers from the U.S. or Europe. However, freelancers are expected to be already experienced and solve problems on their own; no one is going to mentor you. Internships, on the other hand, are made to help beginners to get started in the industry, and companies find prospective employees at the early stage. So, find a job in the office for now and save freelancing for later, when you have a ton of experience, and everyone is willing to pay for it. I want to do an AI but I could only find a QA job. Do not worry, if you like what the company does in general — just join it. Remember, most of the programmer’s work is boring, and only you can make it fun. Every area is full of challenges that you can solve and contribute to the overall success. It is just safer for companies to assign interns to less critical (and often less fancy) projects, as they are typically less reliable. If someone hires interns for core projects, chances are they can not hire anyone more experienced. So, you will not be able to learn much from other people in such a company. Should I learn the backend, frontend or mobile first? Just focus on the principles and be prepared to do anything. As an intern, no one expects you to know any particular library, framework or area. Everyone, however, expects you to pick things up fast. Understanding fundamentals will help you a lot with that.The best approach would be to pick an educational project first. Then figure out what technologies will be required. Then learn them and implement. If you do not have a project in mind, just pick a programming language. I would prefer a low-level language like C or C++ because it gives you much more exposure to how the computer works. What should I put on my resume? Do not put too much, fit it on one page or less. Do not put every technology that you have ever touched, pick one or two that you spent the most time with. The person, doing pre-screening, will only look at your resume for 10–15 seconds, so show him the most important things about you. Do not put words like “ ,” “ ” and “ ,” they just occupy space. In the absence of previous work experience, personal projects will help you a lot, especially LIVE ones. If there is nothing else to brag about, tell them about a few areas where you want to grow and explain why did you pick them. hardworking passionate self-learner What will they ask at the interview? The interview style varies, but most companies use typical algorithmic tasks like sorting, list operations, string operations, numerical puzzles, etc. will give you a good idea about interviews in general.Most of the interviewers try to judge your ability to communicate and act confidently in an unfamiliar situation. It does not matter that much whether you solved the task or not. The most important part is how quickly you understood the question and what is challenging in it. How well you analyzed limits and corner cases, and how well you explained your approach to solving the problem. If you have done all that but still do not have a solution — do not worry, the interviewer will give it to you through hints or directly. Even if you did not solve anything in time but were communicating well, you still have a good chance of being hired. Sometimes you may be asked to finish the task at home and send the solution by email.So, my tip is to practice solving interview tasks but more importantly, practice communicating your thoughts. Try finding a programmer friend and do some practice interviews with him. Try explaining a few algorithms to someone, who knows less than you. This book Where should I look for an internship? Use your network, ask friends who work in IT, personal references work best. Use and (I find better for job seeking). Join chats and forums related to the technologies you use, most of them have job boards. Go to the job fair in your university. The direct path through filling out an application is typically the longest one. Recruiters in good companies have to scan through dozens of resumes every day, and it is hard for them to select good ones blindly. They prefer to rely on personal references or find good candidates through other, more reliable channels. So, keep sending applications, it is free, but always look for a way around. Ideally, make the recruiter come knocking on your door. Winning a prestigious contest or building something that people like is a good way of attracting attention.
