What are the Top Startups in Africa?

The sudden emergence and swift, sometimes scattershot development of cryptocurrencies has posed a serious challenge to governments worldwide. The inability to control the flow of money, tax avoidance and the facilitation of illicit activities have urged authorities to address cryptocurrencies as a top priority. The action taken by governments has varied greatly. While some states seek to regulate every aspect of this new reality (think of how advanced the Swiss city of Zug or Singapore are), others simply impose strict bans. A surprisingly large number have opted just to stand aside and watch. In fact, they are the majority. Due to the unprecedented nature of cryptocurrencies, some countries have taken complete u-turns as they have found out their strategies weren’t working as well as originally hoped for. Below you will find some curious cases of states that have been attempting to address the cryptocurrency boom. Case #1: India’s Pseudo Ban In November 2017, the executive director of the Reserve Bank of India stated that digital currencies would not be allowed “to be legally used across the country”. Later on, India’s finance minister, in his budget speech, promised a crackdown on “illegitimate activities involving crypto”. The country’s presumably anti-crypto position gained much media attention, with BTC’s price falling by $800. A change.org petition in favor of “reversing the crypto ban” gained widespread support. However, this turned out to be media speculation which did not reflect the real government’s stance and plans. The imposed bans regarded the financial institutions controlled by RBI, not single traders or owners. They also referred to a crackdown on crypto activities, which was taken out of context. illicit In reality, Indian officials have expressed interest in taking advantage of blockchain technology, introducing new laws and launching its own currency. Case #2: Russia’s Melting Ice In the beginning, cryptocurrencies in Russia were perceived rather negatively and associated with criminal activities. The first attempt to tackle the issue took place in 2014 when the Ministry of Finance suggested introducing fines for crypto operations and up to 2 years of community service for issuing and circulating virtual currencies. However, as the number of cryptocurrency owners has skyrocketed, there has been no other option but to soften the stance. The hype was too huge to ignore: at some point, ‘Bitcoin’ became the second most searched word. Since then, cryptocurrencies have been officially recognized as “other property” and accepted for trading, provided that certain rules are respected (e.g. initial investment of no more than ~750 USD for private citizens). In addition, mining was listed as a taxable entrepreneurial activity, and smart contracts received the same status as legal agreements. Case #3: UAE’s Crypto Oasis The beginning of 2017 marked the prohibition of cryptocurrency transactions by the Central Bank of the UAE. The official declaration that “all virtual currencies [and transactions thereof] are prohibited” was widely interpreted as the government’s hard stance against crypto. Coupled with further warnings from officials, everything signaled a very harsh crypto climate, a pattern not uncommon in the Middle East. However, all these signs turned out to be a dust storm hiding an oasis for crypto believers. In parallel with media speculation came the legal recognition of ICOs and virtual currencies (as securities and commodities, respectively), the adoption of the national blockchain strategy and the conclusion of a number of big deals, including between the blockchain business registry and IBM. Case #4: Venezuela’s Rebranded Currency Facing financial turmoil and severe depreciation of the national currency, Venezuela emerged in the crypto world as the most desired mining destination. With utility bills costing “as much as a cup of coffee” and mining one BTC costing just $530, cryptocurrencies soon gained more credibility than the national currency. To save the Bolivar, Venezuela’s government banned the import of mining equipment and launched a nationwide sequestration campaign. Despite the outward hostile signs, the government of Venezuela has actually become one of the most advanced crypto-friendly states. Not only has it introduced an ICO called Petro, which is pegged to the price of oil, but it has also been pushing — with lots of enthusiasm — for its use pretty much everywhere, including for salary payment, pensions, goods, services, passport fees… Petro was even discussed at OPEC as a new unit for oil trading. Case #5: Zimbabwe’s Audacious Exchange In May 2018, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe imposed a ban on Zimbabwean financial institutions dealing with cryptocurrency transactions and exchanges. It also shut down any associated bank accounts. This is believed to be in response to rising global concerns about AML/terrorist funding, and the establishment of the first crypto ATM by Golix, a local cryptocurrency exchange. The ban was not taken without a fight. Golix sued the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, stating that only the Parliament would have the authority to impose a financial ban, and… won the case. de facto Why is the Stance Changing? Shifting between pro- and anti-crypto positions can be explained by the very nature of the phenomenon. On the one hand, cryptocurrencies have great potential to revolutionize the global financial market and make it a place of equal opportunity. With cryptocurrencies, anyone can afford to open a wallet, mine some initial tokens, become an investor and move funds internationally, including places that current financial institutions fail to reach. On the other hand, governments fear losing control. Cryptocurrencies affect not only their ability to oversee money flows and intervene in case of need but also to ensure state security. The anonymity and fast, borderless nature of blockchain transactions have up until now made it almost impossible to track or collect evidence of illicit activities. How Can Governments Become More Open to Cryptocurrencies? With security and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) being the primary concern, there are at least three things that governments can do, which will allow them to soften their position on cryptocurrencies. In this regard, new technologies and especially automated blockchain analytics can play a crucial role. Firstly, it is important to be able to . Given the sheer speed and scale of crypto transactions, this should be done by applying smart AI algorithms, capable of analyzing historical data and presenting crucial findings, such as the origin of a particular currency and the expenditure associated with it. Introduction You will laugh, but in the backward, dictatorial Venezuela, which is in deep economic crisis, today the main contours of the world economy of the 21st century are being formed. It is, of course, an experiment to pull the country out of a deep depression with the help of cryptocurrency. Despite the resistance of its parliament and external opponents, the El Petro project continues, and, according to official data, it is quite successful as billions of dollars have been raised during the presale, and the official ICO has recently started, and applications for participation were submitted by investors from 127 countries. Of course, it is hard to believe in such figures, so it is more important to pay attention to another fact. At the end of December 2017, the Venezuelan government created the online register , in which all citizens of the country who want to engage in mining are required to register. Within a month, 90,000 people were added to the register. Observatorio Blockchain In other words, the cryptocurrency project allowed to create 90 thousand official jobs without any budgetary expenses. According to the superintendent of Venezuelan Cryptocurrency Carlos Vargas, the monthly amount of mining in the country is about $80 — 100 million. Leading developer of one of the most popular cryptocurrencies, Monero, Riccardo Spagni last week said that the coin’s own protocol will change every six months to make the cryptocurrency less interesting for ASIC miners. The reason for the announcement was the development by Bitmain of a new super powerful (220 kH/s) Antminer X3 miner based on an ASIC chip designed specifically for calculations based on the CryptoNight algorithm. It is the high performance of the new device that caused the developers of Monero to take retaliatory measures. “Any newly developed ASIC will receive a significant portion of the network hash and make it centralized,” the team members behind the cryptocurrency explain. “Because they are created to perform certain tasks, they usually have a performance advantage over general purpose hardware, such as CPUs, GPUs, and even FPGAs.” Now Bitmain is preparing to enter the market with a super powerful ASIC for mining Ether, and it will be interesting to see how Vitalik Buterin’s team reacts to this. All these advantages of state cryptocurrency do not mean that the Venezuelan experiment with El Petro will certainly succeed. Rather, on the contrary like any new experience, it may well be unsuccessful. Later, based on the mistakes and successful finds of Venezuela, it will be possible to implement truly effective state-owned cryptocurrency projects. And, judging by everything, this experience will be in demand first of all in highly developed countries. Today, no one doubts that a new technological revolution, based on the use of modern robotics and artificial intelligence, will leave a huge number of people out of work. So far, the only solution to this problem is seen in the introduction of universal basic income (UBI) and guaranteed lifetime benefits, regardless of whether a person works or leads an idle lifestyle. Experiments with universal income are now conducted in several developed countries. In the United States, all Alaska residents receive payments each year from a special fund that invests funds derived from the production of oil and other raw materials in the state. In Dutch Utrecht from January 2016, several dozen people receive a universal basic income of 900 euros per person (1,300 euros for a married couple). In Finland, since early 2017, there is a pilot program for basic income payments, which involves 2,000 people aged 25 to 58 years, randomly selected from among the unemployed. As part of the experiment, participants receive from the state 560 euros per month. This amount is equal to the amount of the unemployment benefit, but the participants in the experiment are not required to look for work, and in the case of employment, they continue to receive UBI. The attitude toward universal income is still ambiguous. In Finland, the severe criticism of the experiment came from trade unions, which position themselves as the main defenders of workers, because with the introduction of UBI, they will simply become redundant. Employers do not like the experiment either because employees have more opportunities to bargain for the most favorable working conditions. The main reason for resisting the introduction of UBI, however, is that universal income is now paid at the expense of the budget, that is, from the taxpayers’ funds. For people who have jobs and want to work, this causes natural resistance as they begin to question why they should pay higher taxes so that some idler lives for their own pleasure. That is why at the referendum on the introduction of universal income held in Switzerland last year, the vast majority of citizens voted against it. If citizens do not just receive money from the budget (no matter whether this payment is called universal income or unemployment benefits), they can create money themselves in the form of cryptocurrency mining and solve a whole range of economic, social, and psychological issues related to unemployment. It seems that these prospects are realized most clearly in Japan, where Bitcoin is recognized as legal tender and is accepted in thousands of stores throughout the country. Who Is Satoshi? Possible economic and social transformations associated with the widespread use of cryptocurrency are not to everyone’s liking. Today, the rejection of change is expressed in talks about the possibility of use of “cryptos” by criminal circles for money laundering and by “wrong” political regimes to bypass international sanctions. The problem, however, is much broader than the creation of national cryptocurrencies and the decentralization of the issuance of money, as even digital ones destroy vertical monetary systems, at the top of which are central banks. Including the “world central bank,” the World Bank (WB) with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Officially, the purpose of these organizations is financial assistance to developing countries, but this assistance is due to a number of points provided for by the so-called “Washington Consensus.” This is a list of ten requirements, including a minimum budget deficit, liberalization of financial markets, a free exchange rate of the national currency, no restrictions on foreign direct investment, protection of the rights of foreign investors, and the general deregulation of the economy. In short, national governments are required to transfer the management of the country’s economy to foreign investors. Since the distribution of cryptocurrency promises to leave the WB and the IMF out of work (why get into bondage with foreign investors if it is possible to solve economic problems by issuing a national digital coin), it is no wonder that liberal American economists are the main critics of digital money today. Sensei told Angelica that it is a lesson of courage, faith, and overcoming what seems impossible. He said that familiar Bible story reminds us of the courage in men's hearts when their faith is placed entirely in God. Goliath taunts David, but David's faith becomes evident when he does not cower under the threats but instead warns Goliath with the hand of God. The armor he rejected represents the strength of man, while David chose the armor of God. That seemed to placate Angelica's curiosity, and Analytica extolled the Sensei, who soon fell back into somnolent stasis. This story was generated as a that may be seen on my Comics page. What do you do and why do you do it? (tell us your story) Recently I have been developing computer games. I am designing the architecture for servers and databases. I design how the server will communicate with the client. I try to make the user experience as pleasant as possible, without lags and other server problems. I also actively share my knowledge in articles and interviews. I also actively share my knowledge in articles, interviews, teach Java courses on Udemy and other platforms. 2. Tell us more about the things you create / write / manage / build! I have developed several server modules and approaches for unlocking and creating in-game rewards. You can see this in Mushroom Wars 2 and Wild RTS Wars games. I also write actively about patterns and how they can be used in-game servers. I believe that games are changing our world for the better. They allow you to relax and immerse yourself in another world. Let you be who you really want to be. I found myself in game development by accident, although I had dreamed about it all my life I like making games because I can see how people enjoy my game while playing it. 4. What tech are you most excited or passionate about right now and why? Hmm, I genuinely believe in AR and VR. I like that these technologies are trying to completely change your consciousness, transfer your consciousness to another world, or make the world you see a little better. I would really like to work in a company that develops AR. 5. What tech are you most worried about right now and why? A difficult question for me. Probably the most frightening is the uncontrolled development of artificial intelligence, which, as a result, can exterminate us. But I am sure we are still very far from this moment. 6. If we gave you 10 million dollars to invest in something today, what would you invest in and why? Of course, these are computer games and my own studio. I also believe in Elon and would probably invest some of the money in his projects. 7. What are you currently learning? Now I am developing my skills for building highly loaded systems and bringing them to production. I am also actively studying Unity in parallel to write my own game. I grow expert knowledge in backend and system design, help young guys build a career path correctly, and trying to improve my  soft skills. Teaching Java courses and spend a lot of free time on different hackathons and IT events. 8. What’s the best advice you’ve ever given someone? I think it's best to find someone I've given advice to. Perhaps those sympathetic to my phrase "look for a job for the soul, and not for money" can now thank me. I sincerely believe that financial motivation is the weakest motivation, and doing something for money is a road to nowhere. I always try to work and do what I like. 9. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Probably any advice I got was helpful. I can’t say exactly one thing. I always try to listen and think if this will help me. Perhaps the one who gives me advice has more knowledge than me or simply sees the world from the other side. the company when you quit 03:54 oftentimes they'll say that you have to 03:56 exercise these stock options within a 03:58 certain amount of time like saying you 04:00 got three months to use that up and when 04:02 you do exercise those options you're 04:04 going to have to pay tons of taxes on 04:05 this stuff if the company never IPOs and 04:08 it could take ten years before the 04:10 company actually IPOs you've just paid a 04:12 bunch of money on stock and you've taken 04:14 a big risk you don't really know what 04:16 you're getting sometimes this stuff all 04:18 pans out maybe you'll get some money but 04:20 oftentimes it's not necessarily going to 04:22 be life-changing money I'm known 04:24 scenarios where I've joined companies 04:26 actually in other 04:26 people join companies and then the 04:28 startup eventually gets acquired right 04:30 acquisition happens more commonly than 04:33 IPOs and in an acquisition everybody 04:35 gets some payment for their stock it's 04:37 not all that much it's not really 04:39 life-changing money you might be like 50 04:41 K right 60 K something like that 04:43 if you're lucky it could be more if 04:45 you're not lucky it could be less one 04:47 thing that a lot of engineers don't know 04:49 is that even if your engineer number one 04:51 at the company you could already be 04:53 getting less than say 1% of the company 04:55 you would be putting in as much work if 04:57 not more work than the founders and 04:59 still the founders would have like 99% 05:01 of the company you would have one 05:02 percent or even 0.1% by the time your 05:06 employee numbers say ten or twenty your 05:08 ownership would already be point zero 05:10 zero zero one percent or something like 05:11 that 05:12 it would be a minuscule amount and 05:13 that's just a culture of startups 05:15 personally I got so disgusted by all of 05:17 this one time I remember I had the 05:19 business partner a friend and we were 05:21 going to start a company together and 05:23 then he said that yeah we would be 50/50 05:26 partners except he wanted 50.1% and I 05:29 would get 49.9% I just thought why why 05:32 not just 5050 and he was so insistent on 05:35 this point that it smelled fishy to me 05:37 and I backed out of the whole deal and I 05:39 didn't start the business because I 05:41 figured that he could just say well 05:43 let's take a vote should I get kicked 05:44 out of the company after I feel 05:46 everything yeah let's take a vote he's 05:48 got 51% ownership oh yeah he wins I mean 05:50 he could just kick me out he can do 05:52 whatever he wants now it's just our 05:53 pretty tricky and I remember there were 05:55 even times in my life when I just sort 05:57 of said to myself I don't like startups 05:59 I don't want to work at them and if I 06:01 were gonna work I would rather work 06:03 either for a large tech company or I 06:05 would found the company on my own and 06:07 those would be the options I would be 06:08 going for now having said that let's 06:11 talk about some of the good things about 06:13 startups because I've worked out a few 06:15 of them and there's some good things 06:16 about them one is the challenges are 06:18 going to be very different between 06:20 start-up and large tech company large 06:22 tech company you often work in a large 06:24 code base a lot of the challenges are 06:25 going to be organizational you're going 06:27 to have to deal with a lot of people 06:28 cross-functional teams and there's going 06:31 to be a ton of code and people blocking 06:32 everything that you're trying to do and 06:34 in a small tech company in a start-up 06:36 you're going to have a lot more freedom 06:38 and anything you want to do 06:39 anything you want to try just not going 06:42 to be a lot of people standing away you 06:43 want to try something you have the 06:45 flexibility to try that and that goes 06:47 for rolls as well so if you don't really 06:49 want to be an engineer let's say you 06:51 want to be more of a product manager or 06:53 designer or prototype or in a large tech 06:56 company it would be an entire shift in 06:58 careers you would have to get the proper 07:00 approvals maybe even do an interview 07:02 just so that you could do some p.m. work 07:03 however in its small startup you're 07:06 gonna have a lot more freedoms to take 07:08 on any role that you want and in this 07:10 sense I would say that there may even be 07:12 better career mobility for example if 07:14 you wanted to get into management it may 07:16 take a lot of effort to get into say 07:18 senior management at Google right that 07:21 would require you proving yourself and 07:22 everything but if you were to go to a 07:24 start-up you could probably get a 07:26 management role quite easily because the 07:28 requirements just aren't as strict you 07:29 can start building up your experience 07:31 and over a number of years you would 07:33 have that experience and then you can 07:34 transfer into large tech company like 07:36 Google and do management there and you 07:38 would already have built up a lot of 07:39 that experience if that were your 07:41 interest and so if there were areas in 07:43 your career that you want to do develop 07:45 more into a startup may be a good path 07:47 for that and that's really what a 07:48 startup is good for I would say it's 07:50 learning so I would recommend this if 07:54 you are a junior engineer or even if 07:56 you're not and you want to get some more 07:58 experience and learn and build your 08:00 skills in a certain technology there may 08:02 be a field that you're interested in 08:03 getting more until you think it's cool 08:05 and you want to do that then the startup 08:07 is a great way to do that the worst 08:09 reason to join the startup is because 08:11 you think as a library ticket and it's 08:13 going to make you rich and you hate the 08:14 work and you're not trying to learn 08:15 anything but you're just doing that 08:17 currently for the money because in that 08:18 scenario I would say I startup there's a 08:21 little chance it's going to work out for 08:22 you if I you curveballs money the other 08:24 thing I might mention here is that I 08:25 don't think money is the proper 08:27 motivation number one if you're a junior 08:29 engineer say either way your pace look I 08:32 know it sounds like a lot for you now 08:34 but it's not going to make a difference 08:35 for you in a few years when you look 08:37 back on that salary range that you're at 08:39 just spend your time trying to learn and 08:41 guide your career in the direction that 08:43 you want it to go to but trying to argue 08:45 and optimize for a few thousand bucks 08:47 here and there it's just not really the 08:49 right time to be doing that because 08:50 you're really splitting pennies at 08:52 point the other great thing about 08:53 startups is they can be a little bit 08:55 more closed now I remember I worked in a 08:57 start-up with one of my professors and 08:59 during the company holiday party it was 09:02 just us with our spouses or girlfriends 09:04 or boyfriends or whatever and there just 09:06 felt more like a family the office was 09:08 like the professor's living room you 09:10 don't really get this sort of dynamic 09:11 when you're in a larger company in which 09:13 it's an open door right people are 09:15 coming and going all the time and 09:17 there's tons of people that you may be 09:18 interacting with you don't really get to 09:20 know anybody really that well sometimes 09:22 people just get fired to just disappear 09:25 randomly and that just seems to happen 09:27 sometimes 09:28 so overall let me put it this way I 09:30 think that if you can get into a large 09:31 tech company then you might as well try 09:33 and it's good to explore your options 09:35 and see what you can get 09:36 but startups are great too you can learn 09:39 a lot there develop your skills and 09:40 experience there are some good 09:42 connections get to know some people 09:43 there and overall it's probably going to 09:45 be a pretty good time working there 09:46 because it's not like going to a large 09:49 tech company like Google you're gonna 09:50 have a 10 times better experience there 09:53 it's not quite like that it's more like 09:54 it's just bigger it's not like the food 09:56 is 10 times better it's not like the 09:58 computers are 10 times more powerful 10:00 it's still essentially the same stuff 10:02 the same environment that you're working 10:03 in maybe for lunch instead of having a 10:06 single item on the menu you may have 10 10:08 different items on the menu but you 10:09 still just pick one thing to eat when 10:11 you interact with people and self 10:12 interacting with five people you may 10:14 have to interact with 50 people when you 10:17 work on a codebase it would just be a 10:18 larger codebase and the office overall 10:20 may be larger instead of having a single 10:22 building there may be 10 different 10:24 buildings that are interconnected but 10:26 you still end up going to a single 10:27 building your small little desk whenever 10:29 you're going to work in that sense the 10:31 work environment is similar and often in 10:33 many scenarios a startups work 10:35 environment the facilities the bathrooms 10:38 the kitchens that stuff can actually be 10:39 better and higher quality than what you 10:41 may find that large tech companies I 10:43 will say that for a lot of people it 10:44 might make sense at some point once 10:46 you've learned enough once you've 10:47 developed enough experience that you may 10:50 want to prioritize compensation maybe 10:52 make sure that you've got some real 10:53 money on the table that you can lock in 10:55 there maybe tackle some different types 10:57 of technical problems and challenges 10:59 those that have to do with larger code 11:01 bases dealing with many different types 11:03 of people you know that 11:04 interesting challenge in itself and also 11:06 just add some more options to your lunch 11:08 menu those are all things that larger 11:10 tech companies will be David Vs. Goliath: Startups and Big Tech, Which Trumps Which?

Cryptocurrency derivatives space has been abuzz with activity in 2019. In traditional financial markets, the size of derivatives trading is ~4-5x of the size of spot trading. The success of BitMex has made it evident to everyone that the same phenomenon is likely to play out in crypto derivatives. This realization has led several leading spot exchanges e.g. and to launch their own derivatives trading platforms. At the same time, several new projects have joined the fray. A noteworthy new entrant in the space is , which has carved a niche for itself by pioneering altcoin derivatives. Binance Huobi Delta Exchange In this article, we do a comparative analysis of BitMex and Delta Exchange across several parameters to evaluate whether the underdog (Delta Exchange) can level up to the giant (BitMex). Product Innovation BitMex has several innovations to its name, with the most notable among them perpetual swap. However, for the last 2-3 years, we haven’t seen any significant innovation coming out of BitMex. They continued to remain focused on the top handful of coins. In addition to Bitcoin, BitMex has futures on 7 coins. The latest addition to this list was EOS futures which were listed in June 2018, more than a year ago. In contrast, Delta Exchange has made product innovation its USP. Key among them are: Delta Exchange currently list futures and perpetual contracts on . Several of these altcoins, e.g. Tezos, ATOM, Chainlink and RVN are exclusive to Delta. This means that Delta is the only exchange where you could long/ short these altcoins with leverage. Delta has been quite responsive to traders’ demand for perpetuals on particular altcoins. The timely launch of BNB and LEO perpetual contracts helped the exchange win a strong following among altcoin traders. Exclusive altcoin perpetual swaps: bitcoin and 13 leading altcoins All contracts on BitMex are settled in Bitcoin. Single currency settlement enables traders to speculate on multiple coins with only bitcoin. However, this approach also has a significant downside: traders are forced to keep balances in BTC, i.e. stay long BTC, even when they are bearish on it. The USDC settled contracts of Delta Exchange are an elegant solution to this problem. By keeping their balances in USDC and trading USDC margined and settled contracts, traders are protected against BTC price volatility. Stablecoin settled derivatives: Delta Exchange is in the process of launching new types of derivatives contracts. These include: (a) The exchange plans to simplify the trading options through an innovative UI/ UX that enables a trader to articulate her market view and get suggested options trades to express that view. A preview of this novel way of trading options is already available on Delta Exchange’s Testnet, and (b) These derivative contracts enable people to speculate on and hedge interest rate risks. Crypto lending, both centralised and decentralised, will benefit from  access to interest rate swaps. Options and interest rate derivatives: Options: Interest rate swaps: Liquidity BitMex launched in late 2014 and as a leading incumbent enjoys a significant edge over Delta Exchange when it comes to daily traded volume. However, it is the quality of order book, viz. bid-offer spreads and impact cost that matter more to traders. In this aspect, Delta Exchange scores quite well. Let’s use the bitcoin perpetual contract that’s listed on both the exchange for our comparison. On both the exchanges, bid-offer spread is $0.5 and a position of notional value $100K can be acquired with minimal slippages. This indicates that for most traders, the quality of fills on Delta Exchange will be comparable to those on BitMex. cture Matching Engine & Trading Infrastru BitMex’s Achilles’ heel has been its trading engine not being able to handle order traffic during volatile market conditions. A quick Google search is all that’s need to gauge the severity of BitMex’s system overload problem. Despite having significant resources at its disposal, the company has not been able to resolve this issue. The matching engine of Delta Exchange has been written entirely in-house. The exchange clean track record in 1+ years of existence vouches for the robustness of the trading engine. Moreover, the Delta team has focused heavily on building strong risk management systems, which are critical for supporting leveraged trading of highly volatile alts. Another area where the exchange shines is advanced orders. In addition to supporting all the standard order types (market, limit and stop orders), Delta Exchange offers bracket orders. These let a trader better manage risk by enabling her to place an OCO (one-cancels-the-other) TP/SL at the time of placing an order. Security A major risk vector for all centralized crypto exchange is losing crypto under custody in a hacking attack. Both BitMex and Delta Exchange have good track record in this area. Neither of the two exchanges have suffered any loss of crypto due to hacking in its 5/1 year(s) history. The security protocols of the two exchanges are also quite similar. Cryptocurrencies in custody are stored in multi-sig wallets. Withdrawals are processed only once a day with manual review. Hot wallets that support automatic withdrawals are typically the weakest link in the security of an exchange. Once a day withdrawals with manual review obviate the need for such hot wallets, although at the cost of speed. Conclusion Cryptocurrency derivatives is an attractive segment due to its immense growth potential. Considering the size of the prize, it is natural that several players will enter the space. We have already seen leading spot exchange and new project foray into crypto derivatives, to challenge the hegemony of BitMex. Delta Exchange is one such player. Our four factor analysis shows that despite being new, Delta Exchange has been able to achieve near parity in 2/4 factors and seem to have a slight upper hand in the remaining two factors. However, whether Delta Exchange can challenge BitMex for the top spot will be determined by two things: (a) Delta’s ability to continue to innovate on product and capture larger shares of traders’ hearts, minds and wallets and (b) state of altcoins: for the exchange’s bet on altcoins to pay off, altcoins (both in absolute and relative to bitcoin terms) do well. It will be interesting to see how this David vs. Goliath type of struggle will play out.

Delta Exchange vs. BitMex : David vs. Goliath?

The question on the lips of people I encounter more frequently is how will they benefit from Nexves and what can it do for them? One person completing these tasks might not make much of a dent, but imaging the influence of 10,000 people sharing this at the same time, or even 1 million. Collectively everyone benefits by acting together in mutual self-interest. You influence the growth of your investment and you are paid for it’s success. Simultaneously, you will be rewarded for discovering potential investments or acquisitions. Make a recommendation that leads to investment and you will be rewarded with a large number of tokens. Had you referred Facebook to Nexves under this model, you would now be a Millionaire. Only problem is that if you had discovered facebook at this stage there is nothing you could have done.
