Objective 3: Extend U.S. space situational awareness capabilities into Cislunar space SSA is essential to safe and successful spacecraft operations in all orbits, including in Cislunar space. SSA data, for example, help satellite operators avoid collisions with other satellites or debris, support rendezvous and proximity operations, and enable the identification of anomalous, irresponsible, or potentially dangerous spacecraft operations and space weather phenomena of significance. The United States will support R&D to advance technology useful for Cislunar SSA, including improved monitoring methods and better understanding of Cislunar orbit families and spacecraft dynamics. In pursuing this work, the United States will leverage work undertaken across the Federal government, the private sector, and relevant standards developing organizations. The United States should pursue cooperation with all entities operating in Cislunar space to identify and track emerging requirements, and make recommendations for SSA and transparency improvements. Evaluate SSA needs, priorities, and existing gaps for extending current SSA capabilities into Cislunar space. The United States should advance Cislunar SSA by initially identifying an architecture that optimizes terrestrial, Lunar-based, and space-based sensors, then leveraging existing ground-based sensors and developing new ground-based sensors as needed. Existing sensors should be investigated to determine if upgrades and/or modification to sensor software and hardware can improve detection of objects in Cislunar space. The U.S. government will support demonstrations of new, cost-effective terrestrial sensing capabilities optimized for Cislunar space, as well as continue developing and testing cost-effective space-based sensors for Cislunar SSA. These in-space tests should leverage orbits available in Cislunar space that can potentially enhance SSA capabilities. U.S. government organizations will leverage partnerships with the private sector to reduce the cost of Cislunar SSA capabilities. Develop or improve current ground-based sensors, and demonstrate cost-effective space-based and Lunar surface sensors, as needed. Consistent with national policy, including Space Policy Directive-3, the U.S. government will continue to share SSA information and provide basic spaceflight safety services to all space operators. A civilian open data platform will be used to leverage Cislunar SSA data and services provided from a variety of government, commercial, academic, and international sources. The rising journalist was incredulous. But he went about enquiring. In the end he thought it good enough to go upon. He found in several quarters a vague but sufficient rumour of a something; for the maid’s young man was a conversationalist when he had anything to say. [72] Finally the rising journalist went and sounded the people on the two chief Folkestone papers and found the thing had just got to them. They were inclined to pretend they hadn’t heard of it, after the fashion of local papers when confronted by the abnormal, but the atmosphere of enterprise that surrounded the rising journalist woke them up. He perceived he had done so and that he had no time to lose. So while they engaged in inventing representatives to enquire, he went off and telephoned to the Daily Gunfire and the New Paper. When they answered he was positive and earnest. He staked his reputation—the reputation of a rising journalist! [73] “I swear there’s something up,” he said. “Get in first—that’s all.” He had some reputation, I say—and he had staked it. The Daily Gunfire was sceptical but precise, and the New Paper sprang a headline “A Mermaid at last!” You might well have thought the thing was out after that, but it wasn’t. There are things one doesn’t believe even if they are printed in a halfpenny paper. To find the reporters hammering at their doors, so to speak, and fended off only for a time by a proposal that they should call again; to see their incredible secret glaringly in print, did indeed for a moment seem a hopeless exposure to both the Buntings and the Sea Lady. Already they could see the story spreading, could imagine the imminent rush of intimate enquiries, the tripod strides of a multitude of cameras, the crowds watching the windows, the horrors of a great publicity. All the Buntings and Mabel were aghast, simply aghast. Adeline was not so much aghast as excessively annoyed at this imminent and, so far as she was concerned, absolutely irrelevant publicity. “They will never dare—” she said, and “Consider how it affects Harry!” and at the earliest opportunity she retired to her own room. The others, with a certain disregard of her offence, sat around the Sea Lady’s couch—she had scarcely touched her breakfast—and canvassed the coming terror. [74] “They will put our photographs in the papers,” said the elder Miss Bunting. “Well, they won’t put mine in,” said her sister. “It’s horrid. I shall go right off now and have it taken again.” “They’ll interview the Ded!” “No, no,” said Mr. Bunting terrified. “Your mother——” [75] “It’s your place, my dear,” said Mrs. Bunting. “But the Ded—” said Fred. “I couldn’t,” said Mr. Bunting. “Well, some one’ll have to tell ’em anyhow,” said Mrs. Bunting. “You know, they will——” “But it isn’t at all what I wanted,” wailed the Sea Lady, with the Daily Gunfire in her hand. “Can’t it be stopped?” “You don’t know our journalists,” said Fred. The tact of my cousin Melville saved the situation. He had dabbled in journalism and talked with literary fellows like myself. And literary fellows like myself are apt at times to be very free and outspoken about the press. He heard of the Buntings’ shrinking terror of publicity as soon as he arrived, a perfect clamour—an almost exultant clamour indeed, of shrinking terror, and he caught the Sea Lady’s eye and took his line there and then. [76] “It’s not an occasion for sticking at trifles, Mrs. Bunting,” he said. “But I think we can save the situation all the same. You’re too hopeless. We must put our foot down at once; that’s all. Let see these reporter fellows and write to the London dailies. I think I can take a line that will settle them.” me “Eh?” said Fred. “I can take a line that will stop it, trust me.” “What, altogether?” “Altogether.” “How?” said Fred and Mrs. Bunting. “You’re not going to bribe them!” “Bribe!” said Mr. Bunting. “We’re not in France. You can’t bribe a British paper.” (A sort of subdued cheer went around from the assembled Buntings.) [77] “You leave it to me,” said Melville, in his element. And with earnestly expressed but not very confident wishes for his success, they did. He managed the thing admirably. “What’s this about a mermaid?” he demanded of the local journalists when they returned. They travelled together for company, being, so to speak, emergency journalists, compositors in their milder moments, and unaccustomed to these higher aspects of journalism. “What’s this about a mermaid?” repeated my cousin, while they waived precedence dumbly one to another. “I believe some one’s been letting you in,” said my cousin Melville. “Just imagine!—a mermaid!” “That’s what we thought,” said the younger of the two emergency journalists. “We knew it was some sort of hoax, you know. Only the New Paper giving it a headline——” [78] “I’m amazed even Banghurst—” said my cousin Melville. “It’s in the Daily Gunfire as well,” said the older of the two emergency journalists. “What’s one more or less of these ha’penny fever rags?” cried my cousin with a ringing scorn. “Surely you’re not going to take your Folkestone news from mere London papers.” “But how did the story come about?” began the older emergency journalist. “That’s not my affair.” The younger emergency journalist had an inspiration. He produced a note book from his breast pocket. “Perhaps, sir, you wouldn’t mind suggesting to us something we might say——” My cousin Melville complied. [79] II The rising young journalist who had first got wind of the business—who must not for a moment be confused with the two emergency journalists heretofore described—came to Banghurst next night in a state of strange exultation. “I’ve been through with it and I’ve seen her,” he panted. “I waited about outside and saw her taken into the carriage. I’ve talked to one of the maids—I got into the house under pretence of being a telephone man to see their telephone—I spotted the wire—and it’s a fact. A positive fact—she’s a mermaid with a tail—a proper mermaid’s tail. I’ve got here——” He displayed sheets. “Whaddyer talking about?” said Banghurst from his littered desk, eyeing the sheets with apprehensive animosity. [80] “The mermaid—there really a mermaid. At Folkestone.” is Banghurst turned away from him and pawed at his pen tray. “Whad if there is!” he said after a pause. “But it’s proved. That note you printed——” “That note I printed was a mistake if there’s anything of that sort going, young man.” Banghurst remained an obstinate expansion of back. “How?” “We don’t deal in mermaids here.” “But you’re not going to let it drop?” “I am.” “But there she is!” “Let her be.” He turned on the rising young journalist, and his massive face was unusually massive and his voice fine and full and fruity. “Do you think we’re going to make our public believe anything simply because it’s true? They know perfectly well what they are going to believe and what they aren’t going to believe, and they aren’t going to believe anything about mermaids—you bet your hat. I don’t care if the whole damned beach was littered with mermaids—not the whole damned beach! We’ve got our reputation to keep up. See?… Look here!—you don’t learn journalism as I hoped you’d do. It was you what brought in all that stuff about a discovery in chemistry——” [81] “It’s true.” “Ugh!” “I had it from a Fellow of the Royal Society——” “Stuff that the public won’t believe aren’t facts.” “I don’t care if you had it from—anybody. Stuff that the public won’t believe aren’t facts. Being true only makes ’em worse. They buy our paper to swallow it and it’s got to go down easy. When I printed you that note and headline I thought you was up to a lark. I thought you was on to a mixed bathing scandal or something of that sort—with juice in it. The sort of thing that understand. You know when you went down to Folkestone you were going to describe what Salisbury and all the rest of them wear upon the Leas. And start a discussion on the acclimatisation of the café. And all that. And then you get on to this (unprintable epithet) nonsense!” [82] all “But Lord Salisbury—he doesn’t go to Folkestone.” Banghurst shrugged his shoulders over a hopeless case. “What the deuce,” he said, addressing his inkpot in plaintive tones, “does matter?” that The young man reflected. He addressed Banghurst’s back after a pause. His voice had flattened a little. “I might go over this and do it up as a lark perhaps. Make it a comic dialogue sketch with a man who really believed in it—or something like that. It’s a beastly lot of copy to get slumped, you know.” [83] “Nohow,” said Banghurst. “Not in any shape. No! Why! They’d think it clever. They’d think you was making game of them. They hate things they think are clever!” The young man made as if to reply, but Banghurst’s back expressed quite clearly that the interview was at an end. “Nohow,” repeated Banghurst just when it seemed he had finished altogether. “I may take it to the Gunfire then?” Banghurst suggested an alternative. “Very well,” said the young man, heated, “the Gunfire it is.” But in that he was reckoning without the editor of the Gunfire. [84] III It must have been quite soon after that, that I myself heard the first mention of the mermaid, little recking that at last it would fall to me to write her history. I was on one of my rare visits to London, and Micklethwaite was giving me lunch at the Penwiper Club, certainly one of the best dozen literary clubs in London. I noted the rising young journalist at a table near the door, lunching alone. All about him tables were vacant, though the other parts of the room were crowded. He sat with his face towards the door, and he kept looking up whenever any one came in, as if he expected some one who never came. Once distinctly I saw him beckon to a man, but the man did not respond. “Look here, Micklethwaite,” I said, “why is everybody avoiding that man over there? I noticed just now in the smoking-room that he seemed to be trying to get into conversation with some one and that a kind of taboo——” [85] Micklethwaite stared over his fork. “Ra-ther,” he said. “But what’s he done?” “He’s a fool,” said Micklethwaite with his mouth full, evidently annoyed. “Ugh,” he said as soon as he was free to do so. I waited a little while. “What’s he done?” I ventured. Micklethwaite did not answer for a moment and crammed things into his mouth vindictively, bread and all sorts of things. Then leaning towards me in a confidential manner he made indignant noises which I could not clearly distinguish as words. “Oh!” I said, when he had done. “Yes,” said Micklethwaite. He swallowed and then poured himself wine—splashing the tablecloth. [86] “He had for an hour very nearly the other day.” me “Yes?” I said. “Silly fool,” said Micklethwaite. I was afraid it was all over, but luckily he gave me an opening again after gulping down his wine. “He leads you on to argue,” he said. “That——?” “That he can’t prove it.” “Yes?” “And then he shows you he can. Just showing off how damned ingenious he is.” I was a little confused. “Prove what?” I asked. “Haven’t I been telling you?” said Micklethwaite, growing very red. “About this confounded mermaid of his at Folkestone.” [87] “He says there is one?” “Yes, he does,” said Micklethwaite, going purple and staring at me very hard. He seemed to ask mutely whether I of all people proposed to turn on him and back up this infamous scoundrel. I thought for a moment he would have apoplexy, but happily he remembered his duty as my host. So he turned very suddenly on a meditative waiter for not removing our plates. “Had any golf lately?” I said to Micklethwaite, when the plates and the remains of the waiter had gone away. Golf always does Micklethwaite good except when he is actually playing. Then, I am told— If I were Mrs. Bunting I should break off and raise my eyebrows and both hands at this point, to indicate how golf acts on Micklethwaite when he is playing. I turned my mind to feigning an interest in golf—a game that in truth I despise and hate as I despise and hate nothing else in this world. Imagine a great fat creature like Micklethwaite, a creature who ought to wear a turban and a long black robe to hide his grossness, whacking a little white ball for miles and miles with a perfect surgery of instruments, whacking it either with a babyish solemnity or a childish rage as luck may have decided, whacking away while his country goes to the devil, and incidentally training an innocent-eyed little boy to swear and be a tip-hunting loafer. That’s golf! However, I controlled my all too facile sneer and talked of golf and the relative merits of golf links as I might talk to a child about buns or distract a puppy with the whisper of “rats,” and when at last I could look at the rising young journalist again our lunch had come to an end. [88] I saw that he was talking with a greater air of freedom than it is usual to display to club waiters, to the man who held his coat. The man looked incredulous but respectful, and was answering shortly but politely. [89] When we went out this little conversation was still going on. The waiter was holding the rising young journalist’s soft felt hat and the rising young journalist was fumbling in his coat pocket with a thick mass of papers. “It’s tremendous. I’ve got most of it here,” he was saying as we went by. “I don’t know if you’d care——” “I get very little time for reading, sir,” the waiter was replying. In the Front of a Galaxy of Witnesses

It’s no secret that Guardians of the Galaxy had an uphill battle on its hands. After Earth’s Mightiest Heroes failed to last year, things weren’t looking so hot for Marvel’s Rag-Tag Space Outlaws. Add to that an underwhelming , and you might as well kiss Square Enix’s partnership with Marvel goodbye. But, after spending a week with Marvel’s loveable band of misfits, I’m happy to report that Marvel’s Avengers is not only one of the best superhero games, but it’s easily the most entertaining game of 2021. recoup their losses E3 reveal Fox On The Run Without going into too much into spoiler details, let’s just say the plot has the titular heroes once again forced to save the universe from a threat that they accidentally unleashed. Much like past Marvel games, Guardians treads a fine line between letting the developers come up with their take on these iconic characters while not diverging too far from their on-screen counterparts. While this interpretation of the Guardians takes a while to get used to, they eventually grow on you. What is surprising is how much growth goes with each hero. Through the game, each of the guardians goes throughout their own character arc. Drax, for example, had his past only briefly explored in the films, but it gets much more development here, and his arc ends on a gut-punching note. Eidos Montreal is well known for its focus on storytelling, as seen in its two Deus Ex titles, but Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t afraid to get deep, especially for a superhero game. Even some of the side characters and antagonists feel incredibly fleshed out. The plot is still relatively light-hearted, filled with the constant back-and-forth batter that the team is known for, but the few moments of hefty drama are handled gracefully and don’t feel out of place. Ain't No Mountain High Enough in Here Compared to the open-worlds and online arenas that we’ve become accustomed to, Guardians of the Galaxy is a refreshingly linear adventure. The only diverting paths lead to extras, such as costumes, data logs, and currency. The latter is used to upgrade Star-Lord with various perks, such as slowdown after dodging and improved shielding. While the straight-forward adventure sprinkles combat sequences throughout, there are a few diversions that help things from getting stale. You’ll have to partake in environmental puzzles that have you using one of the Guardian’s unique abilities, like having Gamora use her acrobatics to help Star-Lord jump up a platform or having Drax use his strength to move something from point A to B. None of these sections are too taxing on the mind, but they’re a nice break from the walking and shooting you’ll partake in. You’ll also have the option to pick from various dialog choices. While some are simple responses to progress the story, some conversations will allow access to different routes and get extra help from other characters in specific sequences later down the line. It’s a nice incentive to spend time choosing specific lines of dialog. But even if you mess up, the story will progress mostly the same, so you don’t have to worry too much. Guardians of the Galaxy is a surprising length adventure, taking around 10-12 hours. Once you pass the credits, a new game plus option opens up, and you have the option to replay chapters. Wham Bam Shoot-A-Lang Combat is where you’ll spend most of your time, with Star-Lord as the only character you’ll control. He only has his trademark blasters, but he can use them in conjunction with his jet-boots to hover around the battlefield. Throughout the game, Star-Lord obtains elemental abilities used to stun and hurt enemies while solving simple puzzles. While you can’t directly control the other members, each has a variety of special moves that they can use. Gamora can hack up her enemies, Drax can use his stamina to stagger his foes, Rocket can use a variety of grenades to attack or set up enemies for a blow, and Groot can use his branches to fight or trap his foes. This diversity makes combat a blast to play, with the game constantly encouraging you to mix things up, thanks to the wide-arrange of enemy types. Some are weak to Star-Lord’s elemental ammo, while others need to be staggered to deal damage. It forces you to strategically use each character’s abilities, especially since they run on a cooldown meter. It all makes for exciting enemy encounters that never get dull, even if the game is on the easy side. Death is rare since enemies spill out health cubes, but the feedback and insane carnage on display make for an exhilarating trip. After completing fights, each character can learn new moves through EXP, adding much-needed variety to each character’s move set. The last bit of gameplay comprises small sections where you pilot the Milano for brief bits of space combat. While they offer simple entertaining throw-backs to Star Fox, they sadly suffer from stiff controls. But, even with its minor shortcomings, Guardians still provides one heck of a good time through its journey. Come a Little Bit Closer Graphically, Guardians of the Galaxy looks good on PS5. The environments are varied, with no two planets or space stations you visit looking the same. Each world you arrive at constantly gives you the impression of a living, breathing location, thanks to strong art direction and excellent enemy design. From the start, you’ll have the option of going quality mode or performance mode. Quality sticks to 4K at 30 FPS and never drops. Meanwhile, performance is only at 1080p, and there are some noticeable frame drops below 60 FPS, though it’s not unplayable. Hopefully, a patch will be released to fix some of these issues. The music is filled with great licensed 80’s tracks, like Kickstart my Heart, The Final Countdown, We’re Not Gonna Take It, and even Never Gonna Give You Up. It all rocks and never feels out of place. Even the game’s main soundtrack is pretty good, fitting every major sequence with well-done orchestrated pieces. Hooked on A Feeling Is Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy going to win game of the year? Not really, but it’s a damn good time whether you’re a fan of the movies, the comics, or good single-player games. Eidos and Square Enix have successfully course-corrected themselves after last-years divisive Avengers game. Guardians of the Galaxy is a focused, length, and (most importantly) entertaining Super Hero romp that will make you giddy with joy to your second playthrough. So, do yourself a favor and come and get your love on with this interactive version of Marvel’s Space Outlaws.

I am Alex Blagirev and I am currently the Deputy CEO of Sensorium Corporation. I am also a Co-founder and acting COO of Wakatta. My job is about connecting strategic visions with actionable technologies to generate positive changes. In the context of Sensorium, this means leveraging some of the world’s top technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Blockchain to revolutionize entertainment and social interactions as we know them today. This is something I truly enjoy as it’s aligned with my passions for entertainment, finance, and breakthrough technologies. Before life at Sensorium, I held C-level positions at top-tier international corporations such as Alfa-Bank, Societe Generale, and PwC. I was responsible for seeing through disruptive projects like the world's first interbank blockchain transaction on MasterChain (Ethereum Fork) and P2P transaction based on ID photos. Please sum up what the metaverse is in 1 to two paragraphs. A metaverse is a boundless virtual space where experiences that don't yet exist can be created and lived fully. In this immersive 3D space people are able to have a constant feeling of presence, social connection, and engagement in activities that reflect their true personalities. There’s no switching on or off in a metaverse, so it becomes a permanent world that is perpetually evolving based on the actions of its users. It's important to note that metaverses are not meant to be simulations of the real-world, but rather an expansion of the possibilities beyond the physical boundaries we are faced with every day. Moreover, metaverses are a massive step forward for humanity in equalizing opportunities and accessibility to a whole new world of experiences. Are you currently, directly or indirectly, working on building a metaverse? We're actively working on developing Sensorium Galaxy - a comprehensive metaverse with multiple worlds within it. Each will be dedicated to a specific type of experience like music concerts and dancing or meditation and mindfulness. In your opinion, is the metaverse inevitable, or is it just another passing trending tech topic that'll lose hype? It might seem easy to dismiss the metaverse as just another tech buzzword. I think that's, in part, because most people still don't quite comprehend what a metaverse is and how it will benefit them. But on the other hand, the majority of us already live in a very primordial version of a metaverse. We spend our days glued to our phones or computers, uploading our personal lives onto the internet where we are all too happy to share banal everyday happenings. There's also the aspect of many services and infrastructure moving online because of the pandemic, be that getting your new ID card, attending a music concert or even taking up a job that is fully remote. A metaverse is just an evolution of that, likely in a new dimension that we call Web 3 It brings people together in one single, shared, decentralized virtual space that they can explore freely regardless of who they are, whatever impairments they might have or where they're physically located. No doubt that once fully developed, metaverses will be an extraordinary platform. Why is the metaverse such a revolutionary concept? The metaverse is sort of an iteration of the internet, but it's taking it to the next level. As an ever-expanding virtual space, a metaverse is a blank slate for all sorts of outlets. Ultimately, when you bring together technologies like VR, AR and AI, you’re creating a space where people will be able to live in 24/7, in perfect comfort and harmony. What can people build in the metaverse that we can't build on the Internet, or in virtual reality today? What limitations of our current technology does the metaverse free us from? It's not about what we can or can't build online today. I think we can all agree that it's possible to find pretty much anything online. But the current digital world comes with limitations of their own, namely that people have the feeling that they've become just another product or a digital commodity. We've lost a sense of sharing and fostering collective creativity. There has been a breakdown of the online system. A metaverse on the other hand is a constant collaborative experience over which users have direct control at all times. That's a liberating experience. If you add to that a tool like VR, for example, you're entering a dimension of immersiveness and hyper sensorial experiences that the internet as it is now can't offer. How are the metaverse and blockchain related? Can we build a metaverse without blockchain technology? We are currently living in what we call Web 2 — a paradigm dominated by centralized platforms, monopolies and highly regulated fiat financial systems. The metaverse will likely reach its fullness in Web 3 — a separate Web paradigm increasingly decentralized and based on user-centricity and the sovereignty of their data and wealth. To that end, blockchain technology is paramount to run Web 3 and therefore the metaverses that evolve there. Sensorium Galaxy, the metaverse my company is developing, makes a great example of this seamless union between blockchain and the metaverse. The technology is deployed to give users full control over their funds in this virtual environment, while empowering their creativity through the minting and exchange of non-fungible tokens. Blockchain also plays an essential role in creating transparency when it comes to digital IDs and structures such as Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, where everyone can vote and influence certain processes. How quickly do you think the metaverse will be developed? How much can we expect metaverse tech to grow in the next 5 to 10 years? The next decade will be crucial. We’ve been through many false starts in the past, but I do believe that 2021 is the tipping point. The metaverse is gaining momentum faster than ever before to the point where Facebook is switching a big chunk of its business model from being a social platform to becoming a metaverse. On par with this, we’re seeing supporting technology like VR also making great leaps forward. As soon as people are convinced, or at least intrigued, by the digital offerings of the metaverse and are able to easily access a VR headset, I think the metaverse will accelerate. What is your hope for the metaverse? Do you have any worries or does the concept pose any threats? As with any other new form of technology, there are two sides of the coin: one with the things we can anticipate and the other with unforeseen twists and turns. Beyond what we can actively have a role in shaping, like weeding out hate speech with filters or using AI to ensure that users aren't being violent to each other, there are outcomes we just can't predict. But I wouldn't say that metaverses will pose a threat to society in the same way that social networks aren't harmful per se, no matter how controversial they've become. It's all about making sure you're building responsible technology from the very start and that you're able to have enough flexibility to identify and tackle problems as they arise. Aside from that, I'd say that it's actually exciting not knowing exactly how things will pan out because planning a metaverse would defeat the very concept of this technology. My hope is that we're building something truly meaningful that will represent a new stage of evolution for humanity. Thanks for your time! Any final words? Guardians of the Galaxy Game: Story Details According to the game’s official , the Guardians haven’t been a team for a long time, they’ve recently just begun. This is similar to the film, where they come together and form a team quickly after they meet each other. website The website states that the team’s decisions snowball out of control, and it turns into a “chain of catastrophic events”. With the game taking place in outer space, there’s no limit to what this could mean. Maybe it could mean planets being destroyed or mean an encounter with the genocidal maniac, Thanos. Peter Quill, Star-Lord Although this game will feature all the members of the team, you will only be able to play as the leader, Star-Lord. Taken from Earth at a young age, Star-Lord still has ties to the planet with the music he listens to and the references he makes. As the leader of the Guardians, Star-Lord tries to reel in his teammates, but can also go along with their ridiculous ideas. Equipped with his rocket boots and his elemental weapons, Star-Lord might not have superpowers, but he doesn’t need to. His mask also allows him to breathe in space, just in case he ever needs to leave his ship. Guardians of the Galaxy Gameplay Even though you only play as Star-Lord, the rest of the Guardians are still available to assist you. In an of the Guardians of the Galaxy game, we get a closer look at the gameplay. The player can call on his teammates for assistance, but it looks like you can’t spam that consistently. in-depth video It seems that there is a cooldown so your fellow guardians can’t help you out all the time. It also appears that the guardians have numerous attacks to assist you, and you can cycle to the one that would help you the most. Throughout the gameplay video, we can also hear the Guardians conversing with each other, teasing and joking with themselves as we’ve grown accustomed to them doing. But it won’t be all fun and games for Star-Lord and his merry band of misfits. He’ll have to make decisions for the group that might not be popular amongst some of the members, and that might put the other Guardians in peril. In the video, we get a peek at one of these decisions. Star-Lord has to decide who to hear out when the rest of the Guardians are talking over each other, and again when he has to choose which member to sell. Although these seem like minor decisions that wouldn’t have changed the story too much, we wonder if we’ll have to make choices that have much more consequences and effects later on in the game. Guardians of the Galaxy in Video Games This isn’t the first time the Guardians have starred in their own video game. Released in 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy: Telltale Series is a narrative game where your decisions will affect the story. Like the new Guardians of the Galaxy game, the Telltale series takes influence from the MCU and puts their new spin on it. The Guardians have also appeared as playable characters in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Square Enix and Marvel The publishing company Square Enix isn’t a stranger to Marvel and its characters. Recently, they released the Marvel’s Avengers game which saw the hero team reunite after a tragedy. The game is still being supported today, with Clint Barton and Kate Bishop being added after the game’s launch. Soon, a Black Panther expansion is arriving in the game with the character becoming playable and Wakanda being added as an area. Guardians of the Galaxy Release Date Fans of Guardians of the Galaxy will be happy to hear that the game will release sooner rather than later. According to the official website, the release date is set for October 26, 2021, and pre-orders are available. The pre-orders will include different costumes for the game, depending on which version of the game you pre-order. The Guardians of the Galaxy game is shaping up to be an exciting game featuring Marvel characters. Guardians of the Galaxy Game: Release Date, Gameplay, Story

Last week, I finally gave in to the temptation to buy Samsung's latest flagship tablet - the Tab S7. This is the first time I've owned a tablet in years, so I've been very excited to start using it! In this Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 review, I'll talk about how I've found the tablet to use, and my thoughts on some of the decisions Samsung has taken. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Release Date The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 was announced on August 5th, 2020 and . As one of the newest tablets on the market, it offers a lot of value for those looking to buy a tablet sometime soon. released on August 22nd, 2020 Design Review The Tab S7 is a masterpiece in terms of design. It's light, versatile, and very aesthetic. You can hold the tablet in either hand, at any angle, and it always feels just right. If you have the keyboard book cover (which I would definitely recommend), you'll be able to quickly jump from an on-the-go tablet to a desktop workstation. Of course, it's no real rival to a Windows PC/Mac, but it sure looks the part. The S Pen - which comes free with the tablet - magnetically attaches to both of the longer edges of the tablet, and to its wireless charging pad on the back panel. That back panel, by the way, has a cover which flips over the pen so it can't be knocked off whilst charging. Genius. Software (Tablet Mode) Samsung's spin on Android 10 on the Galaxy Tab S7 is absolutely fantastic, with great features exactly where you need them. The settings menu is absolutely full of customisation and personalisation options, and the S Pen interacts brilliantly with the tablet. With a simple flick of the pen, you can launch apps, control media,  and take screenshots. You can even set the tablet to jump into Dex mode (more details below) as soon as you connect the keyboard. Multitasking on the Tab S7 is also great - with split-screen apps, pop-up notifications and even window-style apps you can drag around. Some of the more flashy features do feel slightly gimmicky, but most of them are genuinely useful and help me use the tablet effectively every day. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Specs: Hardware Review The Specs on the Tab S7 are very impressive on paper, and even more impressive when you're using it! With 6GB of RAM and the latest Octa-core Snapdragon 865+, you're getting an absolute beast in terms of raw processing power. Add in one of the best graphics units around, the Adreno 650, and you've got a tablet which can run virtually any task (or many) extremely fast. The Tab S7 also comes with a really handy fingerprint scanner on the power button, on the top edge of the tablet. It's seriously quick, accurate and well-placed so it's easily accessibly however you're holding the tablet. Samsung decided to move away from in-display fingerprint scanners and back to physical ones, which is a move I have to say I agree with. My last two phones had physical fingerprint scanners, and my current one has an in-display scanner. There is no competition as to which type is faster, nor more efficient - the physical scanners win both easily. Display/Audio Throughout my review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, I found the display screen nothing short of incredible. With an 11 inch, 2K 120Hz LCD screen, you are getting a crisp and fast display which has so far handled everything I've used brilliantly. YouTube and Netflix both look fantastic, and whilst I'm not a huge gamer, I've noticed that games like Asphalt 9 are seriously impressive on the Tab S7. Battery Life With a massive 8,000mAh battery, this tablet will easily get you through the day without needing another charge. I use mine for several hours a day, often with a bright screen, lots of apps running, and split-screen working. However, I haven't once needed to plug it back in during the day. Shipping with a 15W charger, which I've found to be reasonably fast, you definitely won't struggle with battery on this device. If you do need that extra boost though, the tablet also supports Samsung's 45W charger which will charge it up significantly faster. That's not an investment I've felt the need to make just yet though. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Camera Review The 8MP front-facing selfie camera is excellent - always producing a clear picture for video calls and selfies. The one criticism I'd have though is that it's often a little impractical to get your full face in the shot. If you're in portrait mode, the camera is on the side and halfway down, so just totally in the wrong place. If you're in landscape mode, the camera is in the right place but it has a fairly narrow angle, so often doesn't capture as much as I'd like. Perhaps I'm being pedantic. I've never understood the necessity for a great rear camera on tablets. We practically all have a beast of a camera in our pockets, so why would we want to take photos or videos on a much bigger and heavier tablet? Regardless, the dual rear camera on this tablet is pretty good, with a 13MP main lens and a 5MP ultra-wide lens. It'll take clear and colourful pictures but it's not the best camera you'll find on a mobile device - but as I've said, that's not a big deal for me. Dex Mode Dex mode is one of the biggest selling points for the Tab S7. It's a desktop-like mode with draggable windows, a taskbar and full trackpad/mouse support. You can set Dex to launch automatically when you plug in your keyboard - which is a nice little time-saver. However, Dex does come with its problems. When you're in Dex mode, often certain apps will pop up with an on-screen keyboard every time you need to type - even though your physical keyboard is connected - which is not easy to get rid of constantly. Also, when switching between Dex and tablet mode, sometimes media will stop playing and apps will behave a bit weird. I'd definitely recommend only switching after you've closed & saved anything important. Overall, Dex is a really useful feature which makes using the Tablet with the keyboard really efficient, but it's definitely not competition for any laptop or notebook yet. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Price: Is it worth it? Currently on offer for £549 in the UK (around $527 USD on Amazon US) at most retailers, the pricing for the Tab S7 is really competitive. To get the iPad Pro (with the Apple pencil), you'd have to fork out £888 - a whopping £269 more than you'd pay for Samsung's Tab S7 with the included S Pen. The tablet has certainly been a brilliant addition to my setup - serving as a great note-taker, video-player and all-round awesome mobile computer. It's great for both work and games, with the tools, software and accessories to do everything you could possibly want from a tablet. If you're looking to buy a tablet - and you can put up with the minor bugs with Dex, the Tab S7 is definitely a fantastic choice at a price far better than you'll find for any other high-end tablet. A wider correction is expected if this continues. Bitcoin is currently struggling to move past $4,000, while it is $150 for Ethereum. However, unlike the day before, volumes were much higher yesterday. All of the top 10 cryptocurrencies are flashing red right now, and the total market cap lost about $1 Billion in the last 24 hours. Samsung Launches Galaxy S10 With Crypto Wallet, And SEC Settles Securities Charges Against Gladius…

The regular readers of my previous articles will already be aware of Masternode.live and that I am a big fan of their listing site but I felt my previous mentions didn’t really do the site, or project, justice. So in the interests of giving these guys the due care and attention they, and their service, deserve I felt it appropriate to dedicate a full article to the site and the team behind this excellent project and their plans for the . future OK got it! So what is Masternode.live? Masternode.live is a masternode listing site but unlike any other out there. Plain vanilla listing sites (such as masternodes.online) will list most masternodes you can invest in on the markets. They will provide key information such as price, price action, collateral required, charts showing growth over time and key links to a projects sites. Where Masternode.live differs is they also undertake a level of due diligence on projects who ask to be listed on their platform and display this in an accessible and easy to understand way to allow people to quickly assess the project in question and help inform their investing decisions. Sounds good! What exactly do they check for? Well as they say… great minds think alike! And the criteria Masternode.live check is pretty similar to the criteria I outline in my article — I want to run a Masternode. How do I pick a good one? Specifically, the criteria they assess projects against, which are also detailed on their twitter feed, are: here In the interests of lifting the lid further on this project and the great minds behind it I took some time out to speak directly to the one of the guys from Masternode.live — Glenn. Below I have reproduced our interview which I conducted in the last week. What is your name and long have you been involved in the Cryptocurrency space? My name is Glenn and I have been in Crypto heavily for a few years. How did you get into Cryptocurrencies, Masternodes and why? I looked into Crypto in 2012 was fascinated by the concept, but also skeptical (that BTC was a deep-state initiative to move toward a world monetary system… or something like that). A few years later, I got a better understanding and started a bit of ETH mining. When I heard about Masternodes, loved the concept and the greener input required. Tell us a bit more about Masternode.live, why did you launch the service and why it’s different from the other listing sites out there? Masternode.live was built on the back of a passionate community established with CliffOnCrypto and CryptoCrib.net . We felt we could work closely with that community to provide a platform which echoed, the message we were preaching… you could say we saw our role as guardians to an important space. Who we chose to list, would be the gateway for many investors. We also wanted to improve the interface and make small changes, like not leading with ROI and including icons to guide users to other critical aspects which would enforce that vision. What is your role in the project and what is your background? I am a partner with Cliff in the project. I am working with the team on the client relations and marketing, Cliff is heading up the development and implementing our aggressive dev plans. I studied and worked in Marketing for several years and started my own agency with Cliff, which we built up over 8 years. We had several other software projects and invested in several companies along the way. One of these companies grew substantially and staffed close to 400 staff, of which I took on the CEO role for a few years… Unfortunately, this company was subjected to effects, from a change in centralized governmental policy. As a direct result, it could no longer provide the service. This furthered my personal passion for a decentralized system and transparency which blockchain offered and prompted me to dive — headfirst into this crazy and exciting world of crypto. Where do you think the Masternode market will be in 6 months, 12 months and in 24 months time? The market is its own beast and I would not attempt to tame that wild creature! However, I would be quite happy for a clear reversal pattern and then some steady growth. I think that it is a good thing for sustainability that the market has been so tough and the bear will definitely weed out those looking for a quick buck, which I think is great. It has also provided some time for infrastructure to be developed for sustainable growth. So either way, I am positive. What does the future hold for Masternode.live and what are your future plans to develop the service further? We have big plans for the platform. We have several cool features such as our monitoring platform for IOS, or our API… but I am most excited about expanding the platform to have greater community input and allow greater transparency for investors to evaluate a masternode, through public feedback. We believe we have an educated community and the framework to achieve that. Starting software development may seem too hard and cumbersome task for many. Actually you only need a computer and a heck lot of interest in software development to get started. In this story I will go through all the basic stuff of software development and open some topics that you may not have thought before. While this story will not do the hardest work for you, it will still hopefully kick you just enough to get started. So buckle up your seat belts and let’s go! Abbreviations and definitions For especially junior developers there might be some words and abbreviations in this story you don’t understand. I have collected some of the to this list so in case you find a word you don’t understand you can always come back to this chapter. —Formal language that translates into instructions for the computer to do things Programming language — Files containing text in programming language specific format. Files are where the actual programming is done Source code — Transforming source code to machine readable format such as executables Building/Compiling — Finding out problems in the source code either with a debugger tool or some other debugging method Debugging -Wikipedia Open-source — ”Open-source software (OSS) is computer software with its source code made available with a license in which the copyright holder provides the rights to study, change, and distribute the software to anyone and for any purpose.” — Integrated Development Environment as in text editor with support for compiling, debugging and other software construction related activities IDE — Application Programming Interface. Set of defined methods that can be used to communicate between software components API — Unified Modeling Language. Modeling language that is used to visualize architecture of a system in a standard way UML — Structured Query Language. Used to manage data in relational databases SQL — Central Processing Unit as in processor. Component in your computer which carries out instructions of computer programs CPU — Random-Access Memory. Runtime storage for data and machine code that is being run in the CPU RAM — Required functional and non-functional features of software component provided from/by management, specification, customer or other party Software requirements Choosing your first language As you may already know, there are multiple different programming languages. The hardest part is to select which one you should start with. I would see selecting the first programming language can be sum or individual value of the following: Languages with easy syntax and gentle learning curve can be one value you respect. If the code is easier to write you most probably have to spend less time on finding out documentation or struggling with extra long building times. Examples of easy to learn languages are scripting languages such as or PHP. You should check out to compare syntaxes between different languages and see what makes most sense to you. Easy to learn and write. Python http://www.99-bottles-of-beer.net Languages used by lots of people must have something good in them. If you want to be hip and follow the mainstream this might be valuable aspect for you. According to both and developer surveys, is currently the most used programming language. Most used language. StackOverflow HackerRank Javascript If you want to work as a developer this might be the most important aspect of selecting the first language. As seen in the surveys the most wanted programmers are the ones knowing Javascript frameworks. This of course can change locally a lot and you should try out job search for your local area to see what kind of developers are needed the most. Currently, at least where I live, there is lots of demand for developers with knowledge of any programming language so it doesn’t matter much which language you go with. Most wanted language by employers. This is one of the most interesting aspect to consider when you are looking for programming language. As you may know the most modern languages such as or are not the most performing languages on the market. If you really want to get and know the code bit by bit I suggest you dive into C or even Assembly. Performance. Java PHP If you have a dream working for a tehcnology giant you should learn one of the company specific languages; for Google, for Facebook and for Apple. These languages are used also outside of these companies so even if you don’t land your dream job you still have the experience. By tech giants. Go Hack Swift If you are looking for feature rich language where you can utilize a lot of existing code from the language itself, I would suggest you start with Java. It has A TONS of things built-in and you can get more open-source software to help you build things. Feature rich. Think what do you want to achieve with programming skills? Is it to get job, impress your friends, build a robot, construct your own website or something else? Next I have collected some areas you might be interested and what programming languages are mostly used for these things: Websites and webgames — HTML, Javascript, CSS, Java, PHP Microcontrollers — C++, C, Assembly Desktop programs — .NET, Qt, C++, Java Game development — C#, C++ Mobile game development — C++, Java, Swift, Objective-C This list is not complete but it gives you idea what kind of search words you can use to look for the best language. It’s not actually about the language As you now may have an idea what language you want to start using for your first steps into development I have to let you down and tell it’s not actually the language that you should train. Programming language is, well, a language. It’s a way of expressing yourself just like any natural language. While knowing a programming language makes completing a task possible, it doesn’t necessarily turn your mindset where it needs to be. When thinking about programming there are at least the following aspects: This is actually the most crucial aspect of software development. If you don’t know how to solve a problem without coding, you can’t do that even if you knew all programming languages in the world. Problem solving. If you do software you will be reading a lot. At least 80% of your time will go to reading other people’s code, API documentation, specifications etc. It’s actually very important to know how to read and understand code. Reading. . While you most probably won’t start as an head architect for some big project, it is still necessary that you understand something about software architecture. At least find out about MVC (Model-View-Controller) pattern and learn to read UML charts. This is especially important if you join a new team where the architecture is established and you are the one to turn the pretty images in to functional code. Software architecture . As in Object-Oriented Programming. Most of the modern languages are object oriented languages. Basically once you understand how any of these languages work you are already covering more languages than you know. So learn it well from the beginning if you are not planning to do some low-level programming. OOP Some of us will never use a single database but they are still something very interesting that can add a lot of value for a software engineer. So think about learning basics of SQL just to understand how these things work and how you can use them in the future. Databases. To have basic know-how what is happening in the computer should be required from all software engineers. What is RAM and how it’s used, how does the CPU work, how about multitasking? While you might not need them directly in your projects it is a good basic knowledge for everyone switching bits from zero to one (even when doing web programming). Computer architecture. Most of the skills developers need are not related to programming language at all. Languages are there to give possibility to do things while software developers are there to actually do these things. Never underestimate a developer who lacks skill on the programming language — he/she might know more than you think. Finding your toolbox What programs do I need to start writing? Actually that depends a lot of the programming language you have chosen. Most of the languages, such as C, C++, Go and Java require some compiler to build machine executable code. Some languages such as Python, PHP and other scripting languages don’t need to be compiled before running but still require the framework underneath to produce some output. There are tons of tutorials for all major languages on the internet with information how to setup build environment for different languages on different operating systems. For me it has always been very clear that all development is done on Linux platform. Some might argue with this and use Windows or Mac but it’s all the same — you can do software development on any platform. If you are not familiar with Linux, I highly recommend trying some easy distribution such as Ubuntu for your software development. You can even install it on tool called and run it inside your Windows/Mac. To do this, again, search for tutorials from the internet. VirtualBox Another thing that is important to find is your text editor of choice. There are many, many text editors and IDEs you can choose from and here is a list of the most used ones: — IDE for development on almost any language. Very bloated especially if you install lots of plugins. Eclipse — One of the newest hip editors around. Fast and quite comprehensive editor. Sublime Text — Another bloated IDE for development on multiple languages. NetBeans — “A hackable text editor for the 21st Century”. Very user friendly, fast and beautiful. Atom — One of the most used editors around. Quite basic editor in my honest opinion. Notepad++ — Want to look like a hacker and still be very ? Use Vim. (And also check out ) Vim productive my crash course to Vim — Another productivity boosting editor used by many programmers. Forever debated which is better over Vim by the programmers. Emacs Apart from the listed ones there are huge amount of commercial editors from for example without forgetting everyone’s favorite . I suggest you try at least 2–3 editors out and see what feels right for you. JetBrains Microsoft Visual Studio A must tool every developer should have in their toolbox is version control. Version control is used to track changes to source files by different contributors. It is a must to have if you are working together with other people and it helps a lot also if you are developing alone. Two of the most used version control systems are and . While Git is much more popular these days it might be that you bumb into Subversion sooner or later. I would suggest you learn at least how to use Git and some basics of Subversion. There is awesome online tutorial for Git available so check that out. Git Subversion here Your first program When someone starts learning programming they usually start with writing a program that outputs the famous words: 'Hello world’. There’s actually a website where you can find examples how to do this in 500+ different programming languages at if you are interested. https://helloworldcollection.github.io I suggest you start with simple “Hello world” program just to get something done. Especially if your language selection requires compiling it might take a while to get understanding how to get it built and running. After you have all sorted out and can actually output something from your program you should think of an idea for your first actual program. It can be just simple tool for parsing input text or a small game. Start what interests you the most. Before starting your project I suggest you to create repository for your project for example to . GitHub is an online service where you can host your Git projects, contribute to other projects and collaborate with other developers. The UI is very clever and you can easily find version history and changes you’ve done to your project. If you hesitate publishing your code to public you should still use version control for the project with for example local git repository. GitHub The famous GitHub logo Also you might want to be sure your program works as expected. I suggest you take a look at available test frameworks for the language of your choice such as for C++ or for PHP. With the tests you can proof the functionality and prevent further defects in your code. Testing is really important especially if and when your software grows and abstracts more. Also all modern software companies do automatic testing on top of some testing framework so it’s good for your experience to have knowledge of at least some of them. googletest Codeception Getting help One of the most crucial things when starting working with software is to find help. Every developer from time to time and just can’t figure out the solution by themselves. The most important source of information are fellow programmers — your colleagues, school friends or even your family members. You should remember there is no stupid questions, only stupid answers. That also applies to questions you ask about software development. hits the wall Also you should not forget all online services there is for programmers such as: — Maybe the first place to look for answers on specific topics. Very active community of developers asking and answering questions. StackOverflow IRC — Good old Internet Relay Chat. Lots of channels for programmers where experts are there to help. Just search for them with your favorite search engine. — Very popular discussion board where you can also find some answers. See for example the and topics. Reddit programming learnprogramming Books — There is tons of literature for software development and hardest thing is to find the best books. I have few recommendations that I will collect in the end of this story. — Also a great place to find information and used especially by younger generation programmers. Especially recorded talks from different conferences (such as ) can give you lot of information about future of software development. Youtube FOSDEM Practice, practice, practice Apart from your just started project you should also practice software development on alternate methods. There are few (yet again online services) that are specialized in this. Just to mention few of them: and . These services allow you to complete programming challenges of different difficulties. Some companies actually use these services for pre-selecting candidates for open positions and that’s why they are also great practice for the future job searching. HackerRank Codility One great method to learn new things is refactoring your own code. Or if you have the guts, someone elses code. Improving performance, optimizing memory usage or simplifying complexity can teach you a lot of new techniques and programming language features. You might want to consider contributing in some open source software in GitHub or invite your friends to work with your own project. Often best way to learn is reading and code someone else has written. understanding Also you might want to participate in some training or go to school to learn software development. That might help you get started but unfortunately it will not do the heavy lifting. Most of teaching only scratches the surface of software development or is focused on totally wrong things considering your future career. From personal experience only the ones who did software on their free-time, and not only in school, actually made it to a profession. Recommended reading Some books you might want to consider reading: — Excellent book for developers of all skills. Starts from the very basics of software development and goes all the way to upper processes. Code Craft — Great detailed descriptions and architecture examples of most used design patterns in software construction. Conclusion No matter what you do, there is no shortcut to learn programming. Practice, ask and create things over and over again — It’s the only way you will get where you want to be. It’s been four days since the release of the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy S8, and the overall response has been fairly positive. With the first-ever Infinity Screen, an all-glass body, and wireless charging, this phone has received pretty high praise since its release on April 21. In fact, many people speculate that the phone has , and for a far cheaper price as well. However, Samsung appears to have been caught red-handed — or red-screened, so to speak — in these last few days with a pretty unique software bug that many new users claim the S8 has. a fighting chance against the IPhone 7 Apparently, you don’t need to put your rose-colored glasses on for this phone, as it already has a red tint to the screen which appears to not be going away anytime soon. For the last few months, I’ve been working on creating a foundation for moving away from an outdated frontend stack (ColdFusion) towards something that will lasts us another 3 to 5 years. In this article I will outline the choices made and how they solve (classical) frontend development problems. It is technical, but it doesn’t assume the reader is up to date with the developments in the frontend world. I. Setting up shop : Probably the first thing anyone venturing into frontend development in 2017 should do, is install NodeJS. NodeJS is a runtime which was originally designed to deliver fast and scalable applications, but more importantly from our perspective, has grown to be the foundation of many tools used in frontend development today. NodeJS JavaScript network : NodeJS comes with a package manager, (short for node package manager), which allows developers to share JavaScript modules/packages in one central registry. That registry is now holding over 400,000 separate packages, ranging from small utility modules like , to frameworks like , to… full-fledged package managers_,_ like . You can simply install a dependency by navigating to your project root and running . npm npm left-pad angular bower npm install package Other than being smart and using other people’s code instead of rolling your own by ing, npm also allows us to manage dependencies by using a JSON file that contains the (versions of) packages you need for your application, removing the need to check-in external dependencies in your repository. npm install (You can also use the newer Yarn client for the npm registry, it’s much faster and predictable). : If you’re on Windows, like I am, Command Prompt doesn’t get you very far. You need something that comes a little more close to what Bash gives you. Windows 10 has the incredible (well, for Windows) , but it’s a little more work to get up and running. Git Bash is a lightweight alternative that gets you there 98% of the time. Git Bash Bash on Ubuntu on Windows : Microsoft’s latest code editor packs a lot of power: the usual stuff like syntax highlighting, code completion, snippets, theming, extensions, but also an integrated terminal, excellent debugging support, and first-class (okay, maybe second-class) support for Git for those who avoid the command line. Added bonus: extensions are written in JavaScript (and executed via NodeJS), so creating/contributing those is a breeze (and I think Microsoft has extension development a delightful experience, so try it out!). Visual Studio Code (Tip: use these keybindings for quicker tab cycling). II. Scaffolding Now that we have a toolbox, we need to have a workplace. We need to set up a build system that allows us to: Develop and build a single page application Develop and build standalone components which can be embedded in both the single page application and any given website Develop, build and publish separate packages with minimal overhead : The first thing we need to do, is separate the packages from the applications we’re going to deploy. is where the packages live, is where we will build applications and components (let’s call them apps for the sake of brevity) from. Folder structure packages apps - apps- packages In apps, we define a file, which contains the dependencies of the apps. We assume these dependencies are roughly the same for all apps, so we’ll share them rather than defining the dependencies for every app. We’ll then create two folders in . package.json apps apps_- entries_-- app-- componentA-- server_- shared_-- utilpackage.json contains the entry points for our separate apps, one folder for each. For instance, we might have an entry point for our single-page application, or for componentA, or for the server-side rendered application shell. Then in , we have code which will be shared across apps, e.g. authentication services. entries shared To link the separated packages together, and use them in our application code, we use Lerna. It’s a great tool which basically creates a symlink in your folder (where your npm-installed dependencies live) to the defined package. This allows us to develop very quickly because we don’t have to build and publish every change — we can directly use the changed packages in our application code. Lerna : node_modules : To build our apps, we use Webpack: a ridiculously powerful bundler for the modern age. It’s a little difficult to set up, but once everything is, here are some things what this incredible piece of machinery does for us: Webpack Seamlessly import and use not only JavaScript modules, but JSON, CSS, images, fonts, basically everything you can think of. Use those imports to build a dependency graph, and a) only serve the code that we’re actually using, leading to smaller bundles and better performance, and b) easily find and delete dead code to keep our code base clean. Enables a development mode which focuses on fast rebuilds and automatically refreshes the page on changes. This allows the developer to quickly see the result of their changes (usually within 1 second), preventing loss of focus, improving productivity. Even more amazing is the experience when developing with React and React Hot Loader: you don’t even have to refresh the page to see code changes. That’s not just CSS that is updated — even JavaScript functions are hot-swapped . An incredible experience for any developer. in place Optimized production builds with an increased build time, but smaller size, and better performance (for instance, some libraries remove debugging features in production builds). Production-targeted bundles ship with source maps, allowing us to “beautify” minified, unreadable code for debugging live bugs. Allows the developer to define “split points”, which split out a part of your application’s code to a separate bundle which is then loaded only when needed (e.g. separate views). This again helps us keeping the initial JavaScript bundle small so the page can boot up faster. Error out when of our bundles exceeds 300KB, , making sure we keep focusing on performance. a recommended maximum for JavaScript files : One of the issues with web development has always been cross-browser compatibility: we can only use (new) JavaScript features that are supported by the browsers we are targeting. It’s hard to remember what works in what browser, feature detection is hard to get right, making most developers err on the side of caution and staying away from language features that are new-ish. That’s where Babel comes in: a tool that transpiles “modern” JavaScript code to a subset that is supported by every browser. Together with the amazing , we can simply supply a list of browsers to support, and Babel will transpile just enough to make sure It Works Everywhere ™. This way we can safely use nice things like arrow functions, object destructuring, spread operators, rest arguments, and more advanced stuff like async/await and generators. Babel [babel-preset-env](http://babeljs.io/docs/plugins/preset-env/) The same thing goes for CSS as for JavaScript: cross-browser compatibility quickly becomes an issue when you’re on the bleeding edge of CSS specifications. That’s why we use PostCSS, a compiler which targets CSS, and allows you to define a set of plugins used to transform the source code. Some of the plugins we use are , which automatically adds vendor prefixes to properties that need it, or , which allows us to use CSS variables (for now, only at compile time), that we use for theming. PostCSS : [autoprefixer](https://github.com/postcss/autoprefixer) [postcss-custom-properties](https://github.com/postcss/postcss-custom-properties) One of the benefits of JavaScript, the fact that it’s incredibly dynamic, can quickly become a downside in larger code bases, increasingly leading to runtime errors. A stricter type system would allow us to catch errors at compile time instead of runtime. Flow is a static type checker, developed by Facebook, which allows you to define types for variable declarations and function arguments. Flow can then warn you if this variable is not used correctly. For instance, if you pass a number to a function that expects a string, Flow will error out. But the great thing of Flow is that it does most of the work for you — it traverses your code (and external dependencies) and determines what type a variable is . Probably the only point where Flow needs a little help is with data coming out of the backend. That’s why we added types to our frontend code which reflect the object model of our platform, allowing us to confidently access and transform data coming out of the backend APIs, and being able to see where our code will break when the object model changes and we update the types. I use a Flow extension for Visual Studio Code, which offers excellent auto-completion and displays errors in the editor. Flow : without having to define it : Lastly, we use ESLint to check our code for patterns we (or others) think are a bad idea. ESLint is completely configurable, and allows you to do anything from enforcing single or double quotes to consistent spacing in function parentheses. I use an ESLint extension for Visual Studio Code as well, which displays errors inline and fixes “fixable” rules on save (for instance, ). Additionally, I have a precommit git hook which runs ESLint on my code every time I try to commit new changes. In fact, a lot of the characters from ’ space opera are intelligent and enterprising business people who are just trying to make a living while dodging laser blasts and empire Star Destroyers. So, if you’ve caught fever and are looking for every possible way to feed your curiosity, then this the blatant tie-in article you’ve been looking for. galaxy iconic George Lucas Star Wars IS We’ll count down the most enterprising entrepreneurs that show up on the silver screen in every chapter of Star Wars. We’ll begin at the lowliest entrepreneur and count our way down to the business leaders of the galaxy. Watto Credit: Wookieepedia If we’re starting at the bottom, then look no further than the winged junk-dealer that appears in The Phantom Menace. Watto is a small-time entrepreneur who hasn’t been able to break out of his local geographical market. He suffers from a common problem for first-time entrepreneurs, wherein he has too many irons in the fire. While his core business is junk-dealing, he also dabbles in pod racing (extremely high risk investment) and human trafficking (sure to get him in trouble with the law). Watto would be better off if he cleaned up his act and focused on his junk-dealing business. Greedo Credit: Wookeepedia Your typical lifestyle entrepreneur. Greedo has no goods and no employees. He works as a consultant whose service is bounty hunting. Because of this, Greedo will always be grinding for his revenues and will never be able to take a holiday. At least, he would have had those problems if he only would have . shot first Owen Lars Credit: Wookeepedia Also known as “Uncle Owen”, Owen is Luke Skywalker’s uncle in the first Star Wars , a new hope. He also happens to be a moisture farmer living on a desert planet. Owen saw a need in the market for water, and was industrious enough to build a solution that allowed him to service that addressable market. Unfortunately, Owen and his wife got caught up in their nephews shenanigans and ended up suffering a grizzly fate at the hands of the Empire. movie Boss Nass Credit: Wookeepedia Nass was the ruler of the Gungan race in The Phantom Menace. He had managed to climb his way up the corporate ladder and establish himself as the “big boss man” of the aquatic people. While he may have had terrible choice in employees ( ), he did know how to negotiate a great deal. By lending his army to help defend Naboo, Nass was able to make an alliance with the humans and expand his territory. Jar Jar Binks Boba Fett Credit: Wookeepedia Boba was, similar to Greedo, a lifestyle entrepreneur. But where Greedo was myopic in his focus on capturing Han Solo, Boba was a more cunning strategist. He clearly had a great business development background, as evidenced by his ability to partner with the largest corporation in the galaxy, The Galactic Empire. By leveraging this partnership, he was able to capture Han and deliver him to Jabba the Hutt. Jabba the Hutt Credit: Wookeepedia Speaking of Jabba, one cannot discuss entrepreneurs in the Star Wars galaxy without mentioning this large slug-like business person. Jabba had diverse holdings. Not only did he make an appearance at the pod races in The Phantom Menace, but he also owns a nightclub, a Sarlacc disposal business, and a gladiatorial arena equipped with his very own rancor. Unfortunately, Jabba did not pay close enough attention to his competitors and was eventually brought down by another entrepreneur, who we’ll discuss later, and his Jedi friend. Jango Fett Credit: Wookeepedia The elder Fett appears so late in this list because of his ability to break out of the service consultant grind and scale his operation. Unlike Boba and Greedo, Jango saw that his business potential was limited to his direct circle of influence. Not happy with this, Jango decided to “scale” himself by allowing the Republic to use him as the genetic source for their clone army. This ensured that Jango would be able to retire and walk away from the day to day grind of being a bounty hunter. Lando Calrissian Credit: Wookeepedia Easily the smoothest negotiator on this list, Lando started out as a gambler and a card player who entered the mining industry and was eventually able to work his way up to becoming the Baron Administrator of Cloud City. When he found himself caught between two opposing forces, Lando was able to negotiate a partnership with the Empire that allowed his company to remain unharmed. Unfortunately, he had to betray his friends in order to seal the deal. Happily, once Cloud City was safe, Lando worked behind the scenes to undo the damage he’d caused by selling Han to Bobba Fett and setting a trap for Luke Skywalker. Han Solo Credit: Wookeepedia How could any list of entrepreneurs in the Star Wars galaxy be complete without including Han Solo. When we first meet Han in A New Hope, he’s a smuggler who has a solid business partnership with one of the most physically imposing creatures in the galaxy, Chewbacca. Utilizing his skills and his speedy ship, the Millennium Falcon, Han is able to wheel and deal his way up the ranks of Jabba’s corporation. The reason that Han is ranked higher than more monetarily successful entrepreneurs is that he is not solely driven by profit. , Warren Buffet, and Bill Gates, Han eventually hangs up his entrepreneurial endeavors to instead become a philanthropist. In this case, he joins the rebellion and provides his ship and services for free in order to help battle the Empire. Similar to Mark Zuckerberg Emperor Palpatine Credit: Wookeepedia While his results and reasons might be distasteful, one cannot watch the emperor’s rise from lowly politician to master of the galaxy and not be impressed with his entrepreneurial abilities. From negotiations, to boardroom politics, to logistics (hello, Death Star), to branding (again… hello, Death Star), to having a macro view of his position and his goals, the Emperor shows off the full set of entrepreneurial skills. If only he hadn’t been so bent on galactic domination, he probably could have taken the Empire public and had one of the most successful interplanetary IPO’s in history.
