Temporally Equidistant Prebunking

Having a smart contract audit is a lot like washing your hands– do it only once, and be prepared for the consequences. As the conversation around crypto security gets heated in response to a devastating year of losses to cybercrime – notes that “2022 is set to be the most expensive year for web3 on record”– it is vital to review some security best practices. Chief among them is the importance of thorough, and smart contract audits. CertiK’s recent report regular All too often, new blockchain projects treat their security checks as something to get out of the way before their launch, never to be thought of again. This haphazard attitude is seen clearest in projects that have only had a single smart contract audit. Projects that do this seem to think that audits are more for marketing purposes than actual security. While it is true that investors and users alike should steer clear of projects that haven’t had any kind of smart contract audit, they should also make sure that the projects they invest in are taking an active, end-to-end approach to their security. You may be wondering ‘why should a project need regular audits at all? Shouldn’t one cover the project in its entirety?’. This is a common (and expensive) misconception. While any good smart contract audit provide a comprehensive evaluation of a project’s underlying code, it cannot evaluate any changes or updates that occur after the audit has occurred, especially any time that a change is made to the underlying code. should Of course, any tech project that never updates will soon become redundant, and this is especially true in the fast-moving world of web3. Any good tech investor or user knows to avoid a project that refuses to update and develop, yet they regularly put their money in projects that never (or rarely) update their security. To return to the cleanliness metaphor, this is like shaking hands with someone after they say they haven’t washed their hands in a year. Take the as an example, which saw an attacker drain close to $16 million USD in funds. While Deus did have their smart contracts audited, an attacker was able to target a new unaudited smart contract with a sophisticated flashloan attack. Throughout the attack, the hacker was able to change the price of Deus' DEI tokens and reap the benefits of this predictable price action. They did so by manipulating a lending pool that was used by the oracle - a node of code that interprets data - that dictated the price of the token. Deus Finance exploit Now, any smart contract worth its coin would warn you of the dangers of using an oracle that determines a price by using a trading pair as these can be easily manipulated. However, since the vulnerable smart contract was outside the scope of the initial audit, auditors were not given a chance to highlight the problem. Deus should serve as a clear warning to projects that they must treat smart contract audits as an ongoing feature in their security framework and have them audited every time a significant change is made to the project. Yet, not all audits are equal. Time and again we see well-planned projects suffer from the flaws of bad auditing. Take the recent as an example. The FEG (Feed Every Gorilla) hyper-deflationary governance meme token was recently hit by two flash loan attacks which collectively drained $3.2 million USD in funds from the protocol over the course of two days. FEG exploits In each attack, the hacker (or hackers) targeted the same vulnerability in FEG’s smart contract. CertiK’s analysis of the exploit discovered that this was due to a flaw in the token’s , which directly takes user input “path” as a trusted party without any sanitation. In simple terms, this flaw allowed the hacker to repeatedly call functions that allowed them to gain unlimited allowances and drain the contract of its assets. [[Swap-To-Swap function](https://docs.fegtoken.com/fegex/smartswap#:~:text=Swap%2DTo%2DSwap%20(S2S,found%20in%20the%20next%20section) Perhaps most frustratingly for FEG, is the fact that this flaw should have been detected by a smart contract audit. Even though FEG did have their smart contracts audited, the auditors should have noticed that FEG’s untrusted “path” parameter passed to the protocol and approved for spending assets of the contract. Any good audit would then flag this as a major severity and advise the project to act and edit accordingly. There is a lesson to be learned here for the crypto-security industry– that, as hackers continue to find new and ingenious ways to exploit projects, it is no longer enough for auditors to just update their checks in response to new attacks. Instead, they must constantly be updating their technology so that when a new attack happens they are prepared for it. Both of these exploits highlight not only the need for rigorous and regular smart contract audits but also the need for a proactive, consistent, end-to-end approach to web3 security.  This amounts to a shift towards viewing security as something to be built and maintained rather than just a label to be bought and sold. This applies to the teams who need to be updating their project’s security in tandem with their technology, and also to auditing companies who need to be anticipating attacks, rather than just responding to them.

Have you ever thought "this meeting could have been an email"? My first job involved spending at least 5 hours of the day in meetings. Although the average time an individual can fully concentrate in a meeting is , the ‘urgent’ priorities my former boss set in the rapidly dwindling workday gave me an invaluable insight into the misuse of time. Douglas Hofstadter, the noted polymath, came up with a law describing the problem of overestimating what we can do with limited hours: 13 minutes “It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter’s Law.” This is commonly known as the planning fallacy and is a cognitive bias that seems especially pertinent in the working world. Now if ever something proved this point, it was me looking up whether I was related to Douglas Hofstadter for a full 7 minutes while writing this article (in short, probably yes, but it’s too far back to be hopeful about my future children getting a Nobel prize). However, my situation is far from unique, it seems no matter the industry people are terrible at estimating time with 85% of projects not running on time or budget. So knowing that we’re all susceptible to miscalculation and misuse of time, how do we use the tools available to make our time work for us? 1. Distinguish between Traction and Distraction Nir Eyal in his brilliant book “Indistractable” shows a fundamental distinction between time used as “traction” and “distraction”. Where time used in traction is propelling you towards something you want to achieve, distraction is moving you away from it. He recommends abandoning the distracting to-do list and instead, building your own weekly . timeboxed schedule His reasoning for this is that do you know anyone who’s ever finished the tasks on their to-do list? By adding ‘urgent’ tasks to a list rather than focusing on what’s important you can perpetuate a negative self-image. Especially if the tasks you dislike are perpetually put off to tomorrow. Time spent where you feel like you have a never-ending list of priorities is time wasted. This neatly brings me to my next point. 2. Schedule your day or have someone else do it for you As David Ogilvy said, “Give me the freedom of a tight brief!”. Knowing what you need to do and when is liberating. In “A Beautiful Constraint”, Adam Barden reports that children in an unfenced playground are more likely to play in the middle together whereas those in a fenced playground make full use of the space. I would not know as I was most likely in the library. Taking this concept to a higher level are the authors of the aptly named “Make Time”. Two former Google designers share their strategy on how to use to push back against the temptation to engage in futile “busyness” and a never-ending stream of content, what they deem “the busy bandwagon” and “infinity pools” of content refreshing apps. They recommend reflecting daily on what energizes and motivates you and when you feel your time was wasted. a simple method 3. Schedule a highlight An integral part of their method is rejecting society’s desire to pull us in a hundred different directions preventing meaningful progress in one. Instead, they suggest laser- focusing on a single highlight and making sure to protect time around it. Agile methodology similarly recommends short meetings with equal time allocated to speakers to focus so the entire team has clarity of focus. If you’re about what you want instead of reactive to other peoples’ desires, you don’t look back and think where did the day go? proactive This is complemented by creating an environment that allows us to design our time for pleasure, purpose, and if you’re really lucky both. Paul Dolan calls this the pleasure-purpose principle which he lays out in “Happiness by Design”. He explains that there are both pleasurable and purposeful activities in peoples’ lives and a balance of both is needed for long-term life satisfaction. Nobody says having teenage children is pleasurable, but people do find purpose in it. By evaluating what matters, we can structure our time around what is important to us and hopefully spend less of it checking email, something we spend doing. a third of our working day 4. Outsourcing willpower Speaking of checking email, it’s sometimes easier than writing and I find myself surprisingly absorbed by webinar invitations. Just as Superman has kryptonite, we all know our capacity to seek distraction can be enhanced by certain factors, particularly boredom and technology. Cal Newport suggests that when using technology we work backward and “transform these innovations from a source of distraction into tools to support a life well lived.” Technology has the potential to enhance our lives, but sometimes we forget that it serves us, not us it. Since there’s no getting around that many apps and features are deliberately designed to take as much of our time as possible, we should put safeguards in. By preventing ourselves from accessing technology at certain moments through free apps such as and , we can choose to end technology’s distraction at inappropriate moments. After all, will anyone on their death bed say I wish I was on Twitter more often? Self-Control Forest 5. Multitasking is a myth However, unlike technology’s mixed blessings, if there is one thing that is an absolute time suck it is the delusion that you can or should multi-task. It takes on average 23 minutes 15 seconds to regain focus after being distracted and people switch tasks every 10.5 minutes. Even better, when the author of this study was interviewed by Fast Company she admitted to . checking email while being interviewed This begs the question, "if we’re constantly task-switching what is happening to our capacity for deep thought?" I wonder if Einstein had been forced to have an email account would his long walks have been so fruitful? 6. Find different perspectives to gain perspective Now we can all easily see that our phone distracts us, but let me focus on something which is an equivalent but the more abstract enemy of our time and deep thought — groupthink. The poor solutions created by homogenous groups produce worse outcomes and ultimately cost us time that could be better spent. The king of behavioural economics himself, Daniel Kahneman, fell victim to this . The group of academics he worked with believed that developing a curriculum would take around 2 years, whereas the dean who had also estimated that the project would take 2 years when asked by Kahneman said that similar projects took 7 years. when designing a curriculum The project took 8 years and led Kahneman to coin the terms “inside view” and “outside view”. When people are in roughly the same job and following the same methods it is easy to form a homogenous viewpoint, the “inside view”. Whereas outsiders often have a clearer perspective on the issue and different experiences. Kahneman advocated a process developed by Gary Klein called a “pre-mortem” where a group is asked to imagine what their reasons for failure might be if there were a plan to address the fails in a year's time. Before a plan is agreed on, you would see potential pitfalls people may be hesitant to voice. 7. Sunrise to sunset — be aware of your body clock I sincerely believe that in many respects, the most tyrannical invention was the electric lightbulb. They were integral to the industrial revolution as they allowed workers to work longer hours, often in dark unsanitary places. This subsequent exploitation of labour inspired Das Kapital and left factory workers in Liverpool with an . average age of death of 15 John Maynard Keynes anticipated that at this point in the 21st century that work would be automated and the majority of the week would be devoted to leisure. Yet, for most countries in the world, we’re facing the same issues as Marx and Engels. Nonetheless, if anyone knows a job that fits Keynes description, please send it to me. Still, we still celebrate time at work at a cost to both business and the individual. If we’re present but not engaged how can people think deeply about problems or make time for friends and families? By saying that the system is not wrong, but the individual is, society is making people unhappy and wasting everyone’s time. 8. Happiness and making a list of 3 things you’re grateful for every day There are three criteria I look for when I see someone mention positive psychology as part of their job description: Do they specialize in generic meaningless slogans? Are they selling me a “Happiness Journal” for five times the price of a notebook? Do they want to suggest a pseudo-medical treatment with no academic basis? If any of the above answers are a yes these charlatans can shove their jade eggs where they don’t belong. Having said that, there are good people earnestly striving to create a better society. One of these is Martin Seligman, the father of Positive Psychology, who offers pertinent advice on how to face life’s inevitable challenges. He calls it the three blessings exercise and has been doing it himself for over 15 years as well as working with the US Army and school system. It’s simple and free. He suggests thinking of three things every day that you’re grateful for and making note of them. He calls the process addictive, and it seems one of the rare addictions that is good for you. Laurie Santos similarly has created Yale’s most popular course by putting into practice ways to improve our own well-being. A key highlight of her teachings is the “G.I. Joe” fallacy where she explains we mistake the fact that we know something is good for us for our ability to implement it. Like Seligman, she recommends to students to forming positive habits by picking something they’d like to implement and sticking to it for four weeks. I am currently staring at my unused Yoga mat thinking this is good advice. By being aware of our mind’s own traps we can prioritize how we want to spend our time and not be on autopilot with bad habits. 9. Don’t break the chain Someone who similarly made their living by noticing the quirks of human behaviour is Jerry Seinfeld. He credits his success to a system he calls “Don’t break the chain”. Every January, , and for every day he writes new material, he had the exquisite pleasure that can only come from drawing a big red “X” over that day on the calendar. By building momentum, it becomes harder to break a habit. he hangs a large calendar on his wall However, Jerry Seinfeld was not writing material for the sake of it. He wanted to be a good comedian - a key part of his identity and something that could only come from a variety of jokes. James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, wrote a great book about habit formation which seems to make an appearance at book clubs around the world in January. Clear explains that the key to building better lasting habits is focusing on . There are two steps. your identity first Decide the type of person you want to be. Prove it to yourself with small wins. By focusing not on outcomes but on our identity, we can take pride in progress not fixate on perfection. Clear makes vivid that by focusing on “small wins” exponential growth occurs so that if you improve at one thing 1% every day you’re 37 times better that year. Imagine how much free time we’d have if we improved our time management by a factor of 37 in one year. 10. Individuals are idiosyncratic; what works for you may not work for someone else To conclude, there are myriad intrusions on our time, but by being aware of our own biases and fallacies we may catch ourselves before getting distracted from what’s important. That being said, Laurie Santos is right in that knowing what we should do and implementing our intentions are two very different things. I appreciate trying to create a standard vision of time management techniques without recognizing the variation in individual schedules and offices can only ever be part of the equation. There is no one size fits all solution for people with different financial pressures, work demands, parental demands, and interests. Nevertheless, there are many elements of the studies I’ve come across that hold value whether you’re in London or Lagos. For lack of a better word, it’s time we recognized the value of the hours in our day and guarded them the way we would our finances, our home, and our health. Hacking Time — Is There a Way to Gain More for What You Want?

Implementing a Merkle tree in JavaScript Known vulnerability Sparse Merkle Trees Conclusions Hash functions Hash functions take as input any piece of data (a string, an image, etc.) and produce a fixed-length output. An example of a hash function is SHA-256, which takes data of arbitrary size and produces an output that is 256 bits long. Good hash functions have the following properties: . In the image above, [T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6] represent transactions. From them, we generate the leaves of the Merkl tree using a hash function. If the number of transactions is odd, we duplicate the last node. We take 2 consecutive leaves and hash the concatenation of their hashes. This generates their parent. In the image, T1’s and T2’s parent is equal to hash(hash(T1) + hash(T2)). We keep repeating this process with all the transactions at the same “level”. These parents will be siblings that will form a new level in the tree hierarchy. We keep repeating this process until we only have one element left, the root of the tree. You can find my implementation of a Merkle tree. It can verify a Bitcoin block’s Merkle root and generate and verify proofs of inclusion. here Known vulnerability Bitcoin’s Merkle tree duplicates the last node in levels with an odd number of nodes. Also, if Bitcoin finds a block that is not valid, it caches its root to avoid trying to mine it again. This combination makes the tree susceptible to : for an input x, we can find a second input y, different from x, such that h(x) = h(y). second preimage attacks How does this design suffer from this? Let’s go back to our first example, based on the tree represented in the image below: The leaves of the tree come from a block containing these transactions [T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6]. B1 The level right above the leaves is [hash(hash(T1) + hash(T2)), hash(hash(T3) + hash(T4)), hash(hash(T5) + hash(T6))]. Since we have an odd number of nodes, we duplicate the last one. Hence, the next level changes to [..., ..., hash(hash(T5) + hash(T6)), hash(hash(T5) + hash(T6))] This is equal to the level produced by a block with the following transactions [T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, ]. Sparse Merkle Trees A Sparse Merkle Tree (SMT) is a variation of a Merkle Tree, where every leaf node has an index along with its value. All leaves are initialized to an empty (null) value. By design, SMTs have 2^256 leaves. The Merkle tree I described above can verify that a transaction is part of the block by exploring the path from its corresponding leaf to the root of the tree. However, they cannot be used to prove that a transaction does not belong to a block. And in general, to prove that elements do not belong to a dataset. SMTs can do this. SMTs can produce proofs of non-inclusions in an efficient manner. The idea is that we know the index of every element. Thus, you know which leaf contains an element. If an element is not part of the tree, the leaf where the element would be stored will be null. Therefore, to produce a proof of non-inclusion, we produce a proof of inclusion generated from that node initialized to null. Proofs of inclusion work in the same way as Merkle trees’. Updating a leaf an SMT is also efficient because we only need to modify the path that goes from that leaf to the root. Since SMTs have 2^256 leaves, only 256 nodes need modification. You’re just trying to find a way to start making money elsewhere; like online or starting a local . business Unfortunately, with all the resources available to you online, the internet doesn’t seem to be much help at all. You’re , but you don’t want to be too hasty; do something you’ll regret later. yearning to take the leap I can think of something worse than losing your only source of income. Losing your sanity, losing your passion, wasting time where you’re not valued, being miserable… somebody stop me because I can go all day. You need clarity. You have to know for sure if this is something you need to do. I’m going to give you the rundown of specific signs that will tell you when it’s time to quit your job and I’ll even give you some methods you can use to quit. 1. YOU WANT TO DO THINGS YOUR WAY I’ve read words that made my blood run cold. Managers telling employees, “You’re not paid to think.” What! What? What! Even if your supervisor hasn’t said something like that to you, they could be implying it. They want you to stick to one way of doing things, even if your way is faster and easier. They don’t care. The company wants it that way, they’ll have it that way. If this frustrates you and it feels like you’re being placed in a box, it’s time to quit your job. They aren’t allowing you to grow. Even worse, they aren’t giving you the opportunity to develop your skills and discover the abilities that come naturally for you. 2. YOUR DEGREE FEELS LIKE A WASTE OF TIME We went to college, investing years of our time only to end up at a job where we don’t even use it. I won’t jump into the debate about whether the value of having a degree has decreased over the years, but I will say that time spent in college should not equal time wasted in college. If your job isn’t utilizing your expertise or expanding on the knowledge you racked up in college, then it’s time to move on. 3. OVERWORKED You work hard and you’re great at what you do. What’s the reward? You get an increased workload without an increase in pay. But, isn’t that anywhere you go? It’s true, if you start a business and you impress your clients, you’ll probably have five more clients in your inbox ready to put you to work. The difference is, the more in-demand you are, the more people are willing to pay for you. What you once made from 5 jobs, you can make with only one. Beats working for someone else any day. 4. PASSED YOU UP ON A PROMOTION…. AGAIN How many times are you going to let your job overlook you in favor of someone else? Especially someone who isn’t nearly as good as you are. They have a lack of respect for your unique skill set and it’s degrading to have someone else swoop in and take the spot you’ve worked so hard for. But, that’s the politics of the workplace, and you have no choice but to go along with it and wait your turn. It’s not fun watching someone else move up the ranks while you go unnoticed. 5. YOU’RE STUCK It’s one of the simple joys of life to be the best version of yourself. It’s all about going from average to extraordinary. However, at your job you feel stagnant. Entrepreneurs hate being micro-managed. Having someone looking over your shoulder all the time because they don’t trust you to do what they’re paying you to do. You need freedom. This means ; becoming smarter, wiser, faster. Your job doesn’t give you the room to achieve that, so you feel stuck. growth How can you not? They tell you what to do, you do it. The End. They disregard your input and care more about the bottom line than they do about making things better, both for the employees and the customers. If you’re bored of doing the same thing over and over every single day, and you’re sick of remaining stagnant, scratch that itch and quit your job. 6. REBEL AT HEART All entrepreneurs have one thing in common. They’re rebels. They rebel against authority and push back against the norm. Your 9–5 is not the place to channel your inner rebel. It’s the place to conform and stay in your space. Branching off to become an entrepreneur would give you the release you so desperately need. If you find yourself unable to focus on what you’re doing and it feels like you do more chatting than working, then you aren’t being challenged intellectually at all. Your job has become too easy and too automated. When you quit your job and work for yourself, you’ll find that you use critical problem-solving skills every day. Your schedule becomes unpredictable and spontaneous. The beauty of entrepreneurship is that you are in complete control to make all the decisions. 8. YOU’RE YEARNING TO TRAVEL Traveling is a unique opportunity to explore other cultures, meet different types of people and develop a sense of appreciation for your own story. Seeing how the other side lives will help put your own life into perspective. You’ll find that there are an infinite amount of things that are more important than money. However, you can’t just pack your bags and get on a plane if you have a 9–5. Most entrepreneurs eventually get to a place where they’re making money without having to be physically present. Also, you’ll find ways to contribute to your business from anywhere. Your travels will inspire your business decisions and help you to refine your core values. 9. ALL YOUR FREE TIME IS SPENT ON YOUR HOBBIES What do you do when you’re not working? This is a good place to start when you’re trying to come up with a good business idea. This is also an indication that you’re not happy with your job. You’re trying to find alternative ways to express yourself because you’re frustrated that you don’t have the opportunity to do what you love to do. 10. EVERYBODY GETS ON YOUR NERVES Eye rolling, leg shaking, deep sighing are all signs that the people at your job are working on your very last nerve. Especially your manager, who for the record, doesn’t even work! You watch them sit on their throne dictating orders while they waste their own time and micro-manage your time. I’m 36 years old and hail out of Melbourne, Australia (currently locked-down, and living with a curfew in place, yay freedom!). During the daylight hours, I’m a hardware safety guy for a large power tool company. But under the cover of darkness, I like to get involved in all manner of crypto-related stuff. I’ve done a lot of dumb experimental sh*t over the years. I blew up a laptop trying to mine this peculiar Cryptocurrency called Quarkcoin one time. Another time earned through a combination of saving, trading, and playing roulette and then mostly lost it all. Crypto Fireside Crypto Fireside started off as an experiment with an interview-style Q&A post series (hence the name Fireside). I would talk to folks from the Cryptocurrency and decentralized world about all manner of things, usually, projects they are working on, businesses, start-ups, that kind of origin/founder story thing. I was impressed with a guy called Pat Walls and his StarterStory as well as being influenced in my teenage years by interviews in magazines that I read from 90’s and 00’s magazines like FHM, Readers Digest, PC World, Ralph, Australian Men’s Health, Australian Men’s Fitness, Rolling Stone and a bunch of others. I started Crypto Fireside because I noticed most of the Crypto and blockchain-related content out there usually revolved around one of two things: But here is the thing; there are real people behind those . What was your latest Hackernoon Top story about? As I just mentioned at the time I think when I first started republishing content, I had interviewed Christian Winter, a young German entrepreneur, about his music and lighting business and about how he was opening his venture up to Cryptocurrency through Bitcoin Cash. I from memory that one was pretty popular but because I had to remove much of my content from here on HN due to duplicate content issues I can’t say for sure now. I know that I had a couple of pieces that had received in excess of 20k-30k views. Right now, I think it is a post I wrote titled ‘ ’. No, Bitcoin Is Not Going to Fail Do you usually write on similar topics? If not, what do you usually write about? I started my writing career (paid writing) freelancing and writing funny content as a copy and content writer for online businesses and marketers. That was probably 16 or so years ago. I claimed at the time to be one of the only humor-content freelance writers on the web and would be asked to write sales pages for guys that would create creepy dating programs or gag gifts like manly scented candles with scents such as beer and cigarettes or diesel covered overalls. I’m embarrassed to say that I used to find these gigs in places like back in the day! The Warrior Forum Like most things in my life I kind of just aim in the direction that I want to go and figure the rest out as I move forward and so in a sense I kind of stumbled into writing about Cryptocurrency because of a project I fell in love with at the time. They were going to decentralize the entire world wide web and free us from the tech oligopoly. It’s called developed by a Scottish firm called Maidsafe. SafeNetwork One thing led to another, and well, here we are today. The Cryptocurrency and blockchain space feels like the early Internet days right now and so there are a lot of cool and interesting projects and people behind those projects for me to write about. The world needs to hear about these things and so there’s no end in sight for Crypto Fireside right now. In fact, it’s just the beginning. Great! What is your usual writing routine like (if you have one?) Crypto Fireside started off as a Q&A interview-style format, and so my routine had to evolve with that. Normally I would write whenever I felt inspired, I’d just get it out of my head and slowly edit and craft it when I had the time, early mornings or at night would work really well for me in the past. There’s something about those times when everyone is asleep, not just in your own home, but all around you in your city, I can’t explain it, it’s almost like the heaviness of the collective consciousness is removed or something. When I work on a story with another person, interviewing them, I had to come up with a different system and so far what I have been doing seems to work well. I usually spend some time talking or web chatting to the interviewee to get a really good grasp of what it is they do and then I will draft my questions, usually the questions are styled the same way but I do tweak them from time to time. I send the interviewee a shared doc, allow them time to fill it out, they send it back, I’ll review it and get back to them with clarifications or follow-up questions and we go from there. That is kind of the system I have been going with when I interview someone. But I also do loads of other types of content now. Satire, guides, reviews, and general commentary. I also hire writers from time to time to help me out when I don’t have the time. Above all else, the hardest thing is promoting your work but it’s also the most satisfying part of it. In the modern world of writing, you can’t just write and publish something and expect it to take off. It’s not like the good old days where you’d get picked up by a newspaper or magazine and they’d send your story out to their syndicated network and voila’. You gotta work that hustle-muscle and push your stories. The successful modern writer is also a successful marketer nowadays, this is not just my opinion. Over the years of doing this, I have learned and crafted a number of ways to distribute content. SEO of course is one of them, but it goes much further than just SEO. I use most of the social networks and I try to leverage other places like Hacker News, Reddit, Digg, and more. Being a writer in tech can be a challenge. It’s not often our main role, but an addition to another one. What is the biggest challenge you have when it comes to writing? Time! You know it’s funny I write about Cryptocurrency and talk to people about these digital tokens and things that have a perceived value and I think the most valuable ‘token’ on the planet is . It has to be. time I like to refer to this concept as . Time Tokens Time is the great equalizer. Rich, poor, black, white, it doesn’t matter what side of the train tracks you come from, who you are, where you are from, your background, the amount of money you have in the bank, there are still only 24 hours in one day, 1,440 minutes, and 86,400 seconds. You, me, the baker, the butcher, the teacher, the girl at the gym, or the guy behind the Crypto project you’re most fascinated with. We are all provided by this great thing we call life, with the same amount of time in the day. It levels the playing field. Billionaires can’t buy more of it. Sure they may live a longer duration of time because they can afford the best healthcare and yeah they have more time for leisure because they outsource virtually everything but that’s not what I am talking about. I am talking about the present moment. It ticks along one second at a time for each of us, and if you really think about it, we’re all only ever living in the now, there’s no real past or future that you live in. Only now. And it is this time pressure that creates stress in our lives. We have all sorts of deadlines and usually, we’re juggling umpteen different things from kids, intimate partners, bills, projects around the house, work projects, screaming customers, and now you gotta pull yourself out of that, find the time to sit down and focus for an hour or two. I mean, right now at this very moment that I am writing this my eye keeps going back to the clock, I literally have 5 minutes left before I need to get out of my striped pajamas, put some clothes on and leave for my day job. This is the biggest challenge for most of us in the modern world, not just me. And in going forward I think that those things, be they technologies, habits, or the way we structure our lives, those things that can free up or help us manage our time better, those things will be very valuable in the very near future. I’d urge you, the reader, to think about what it is you are doing with your time. Or better put, what are you doing with your time tokens? If each minute of the day was one token, what did you spend it on? Are you using them to the best of your ability? Or are you squandering them away on social media, getting into arguments, wasting them watching TV, and playing video games? You only get one life to live. Don’t waste time. Don’t throw your time tokens away on rubbish. Spend it wisely. Remember you only get 24 whole tokens per day or 1440 tokenoshis. What is the next thing you hope to achieve in your career? The ultimate goal is to work on Crypto Fireside full-time and to expand and push content that helps people. I’m getting closer and closer each day. I can feel it, it’s right there within grasp. I see it. I feel it. It’s going to happen no matter what. Covid has solidified this even more for me. The fact that governments can decide which business is essential and which is not is absolutely terrifying. Melbourne in particular has been hit hard, not with Covid, but with Draconian measures. I’m not going to get into the arguments for or against it. It’s just the reality. During this crisis, I’ve seen friends and family lose their jobs, livelihoods, and businesses. Everyone is essential and every person’s livelihood is essential. If you are in a position where you can work for yourself and you can do it online, why the hell not!? I’m very lucky to be in that position. I’ve dedicated years of my life to my craft and now the opportunity is knocking and I’m opening the door. I think Crypto Fireside can inspire and motivate the next generation of innovators from the interview content alone and can become a resource for good. But like I say I am open to all possibilities, I’ve always had that entrepreneurial fire in my belly ever since I was a kid and the world is going through some very big changes right now, so who really knows what will happen next? I’m a storyteller at heart and there is a book or documentary in me somewhere in the future. It’s nothing I’m focused on right now but that would be one of the other ultimate goals of my career too. For decades, the problem of Online Gender Based Violence (OGBV) has been making the internet unsafe for many women. A recent study (based on an analysis of 94 court cases) on online gender-based violence in India reveals that Indian courts tend to treat cases of online violence towards women as less severe than physical violence due to the misconception that online space is less real or tangible than the physical world. A total of 98% of cases eventually required modification as they violated the ASCI Code. Also, this year, healthcare emerged as the most violative sector, contributing to 19% of cases, followed by illegal offshore betting (17%), personal care (13%), conventional education (12%), food and beverage (10%), and realty (7%). Baby care emerged as a new contender in the top violators category, with influencer promotions contributing to 81% of baby care cases. Out of the 1,575 advertisements processed in the healthcare sector, 1249 violated the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, 1954, and were reported to the sector regulator. 86% of the healthcare ads appeared on digital platforms. 1311 advertisements for illegal betting were sent to the appropriate authorities for further action.
