Without understanding what you are getting into don’t risk your hard earned money. Get to know the pros and cons of investing in cryptocurrencies. Only after your understanding the risks and rewards fully you should consider looking at dos and don’t of investing. Once you know the dos and don’ts then finally start investing. Research, Research and Research If you are planning to invest in cryptocurrencies make sure to spend at-least 24 hours of effective reading time understanding what is blockchain, what are cryptocurrencies, security measures you should take before investing in cryptocurrencies and so on. Please remember that no research is enough and you need to keep updating yourself constantly. What could have been true a couple of months ago might be completely wrong now. Technology, Finance, Investment strategies, Regulation and every other thing about cryptos is changing at such a fast pace that you need to update yourself on a daily basis. In crypto lingo it is called DYOR : Do Your Own Research Get your hands Dirty A lot of people suggest to spend a lot of time understanding blockchain, cryptocurrencies and trading. I would suggest an alternate approach where you play around with a small amount so that you get your hands dirty and learn to play with real money and real exchanges. My suggestion is to play around with a small amount that you consider meagre. Create accounts, buy bitcoin, buy altcoins, do some trading, participate in a good ICO and so on. You can do all these with a small amount and once you are comfortable then you can bring in the big money. Know what FUD &FOMO means; Make sure not to be influenced by either of them These will be the two words that you will hear most frequently in the crypto markets. You resolve not to be influenced by either of these is what will give you peace of mind. FOMO : Fear of Missing Out. There were hordes of people who joined cryptocurrencies between November 2017 and and Jan 2018. Most of this crowd driven by FOMO. It was such a bull market that none of the new entrants had enough time to know the market before investing. It was one crazy bull run where some people doubled and tripled their money in less than a weeks time. Hearing such stories people didn’t want to miss out the opportunity. Today many of them will be wrecked as Bitcoin is at $6787 as of writing this article. Compared to the BTC all time high of $20089 this is 66% correction which most of them were not ready for. If they had done enough research either they would not have entered at such high levels or if they had decided to enter at such high levels they would have been prepared for the lows. But this doesn’t seem to be the case as many people are selling at losses and exiting the cryptocurrencies FUD : Fear, Uncertainty and Disinformation. This is one of the banes of social media and internet in general. Most of the time you will keep coming across fake news, manipulated images, tweets from fake accounts and likes. It is very difficult to identify the good ones unless you have subscribed to them. I would suggest against joining telegram groups initially as there will be a lot of chatter and can get irritating at times. I would suggest sticking to two facebook groups until you get a sense of things and you are ready for opening the gates for data flood. As of today CoinmarketCap lists 1514 currencies on its site. It is difficult to keep track of these assets which will be distributed across different exchanges without a proper tool. For a while, I relied on the free version of Perplexity, but recently, I upgraded to Perplexity Pro. Meanwhile, as a longtime user of ChatGPT, I’ve also been exploring its new ChatGPT Search feature. In this article, I’ll share my experiences with both tools, compare their strengths and weaknesses, and help you decide which one might be the better fit for your needs. Perplexity I’d heard about Perplexity.ai many times, promised myself I’d try it, and eventually did, but it didn’t quite click. It’s hard to fully appreciate a tool until you use it regularly. I forgot about it until I got a test assignment for a job interview in a new field, requiring tons of research. Honestly, I’m not great at googling. But since I frequently use ChatGPT and have gotten pretty good at writing prompts, I thought of giving Perplexity another shot. This was before the release of ChatGPT Search, and at that point, I’d already maxed out what ChatGPT could offer. Perplexity turned out to be a lifesaver. It made long, tedious searches much quicker and was my first truly game-changing experience with AI search. At the time, I used the free version. Compared to browser searches, here’s what I found more convenient in AI search: Fewer distractions from ads: Most browsers put ads at the top, so you have to scroll past them just to get to the first actual search result. Even without the ads, the top links are often not very relevant, and there are still too many to sift through. This makes it easy to lose motivation to click beyond the first couple of pages. As I mentioned, I’ve been a long-time user of ChatGPT for several years, so I seamlessly integrated the search feature into my routine. Since free Perplexity uses GPT-3.5, all its features like AI search with no ads, no endless scrolling, and results organized into threads with helpful tips are available here as well. My favorite feature here is its accessibility, offering text-to-speech, and the ability to create queries via audio, and audio dialogs. Choose your fighter Search Quality Perplexity excels at finding information, while ChatGPT Search is better at explaining it. From a user perspective, I wouldn’t say I’ve encountered any critical issues with not finding something. It’s just a matter of different approaches. Perplexity provides more an overview of sources, whereas ChatGPT tends to give more explanation than summary. Generated Answers Without Sources Both tools provide sources for their answers, but sometimes the information might be generated without a reliable link. Even when a link is provided, the relevant information might not actually be there. It’s always better to double-check and read the sources yourself. Based on my experience, ChatGPT is more prone to generating unsupported content than Perplexity, but I’ve encountered this issue in both tools. Search Speed I didn’t notice a significant difference between the two in terms of speed. However, both are slower than a standard browser search. Chrome extensions Both tools offer Chrome extensions, and I tested both. The ChatGPT extension lets you use ChatGPT as your primary search engine, replacing, for example, Google. When you enter something in the search bar, it redirects you to ChatGPT, where your query is processed. Honestly, I wasn’t a fan. It’s slower than Google, and you can feel it. I still prefer a traditional search bar for quick lookups. Perplexity’s Chrome extension works differently. Instead of replacing your search engine, it opens a small window over the current page, allowing you to googling and query Perplexity simultaneously. I really loved this one, because it’s more useful for me. The drawback is that you can only enter one query at a time, and if you want to continue the conversation, it redirects you to a separate Perplexity tab. Unique Features Since both tools use GPT models, they share many great features. Perplexity Pro stands out with its use of multiple models and built-in illustrations. On the other hand, I really appreciate ChatGPT’s accessibility and seamless integration into its apps, which I use for more than just search. Bonus: Hangman game test I saw a funny tweet claiming ChatGPT can’t play Hangman. Turns out, neither can Perplexity Pro, even with all its models. Final Take: Which Works Best for What To start with, I’m a fan of AI search. Usually, it takes longer than quick googling, so here’s how I see it: if I need a super quick answer from the first link, I’ll use a standard browser search. But if I need to find more information or conduct deeper research, AI search is the way to go. It’s the best method to uncover valuable insights more efficiently. As for ChatGPT Search and Perplexity, in my experience, they solve different problems. ChatGPT Search perfectly extends ChatGPT’s capabilities, given that ChatGPT’s knowledge base only goes up to the year 2021. It’s perfect for studying and gaining insights using up-to-date web information. Perplexity, on the other hand, is better for finding something more thoroughly. I still prefer a traditional search bar for quick lookups. Perplexity’s Chrome extension works differently. I really loved this one, because it’s more useful for me. The drawback is that you can only enter one query at a time, and if you want to continue the conversation, it redirects you to a separate Perplexity tab. Usually, it takes longer than quick googling, so here’s how I see it: if I need a super quick answer from the first link, I’ll use a standard browser search. But if I need to find more information or conduct deeper research, AI search is the way to go. It’s the best method to uncover valuable insights more efficiently. As for ChatGPT Search and Perplexity, in my experience, they solve different problems. ChatGPT Search perfectly extends ChatGPT’s capabilities, given that ChatGPT’s knowledge base only goes up to the year 2021. It’s perfect for studying and gaining insights using up-to-date web information. Perplexity, on the other hand, is better for finding something more thoroughly. It takes more from browser search, like incognito pages, and its approach to work with your prompts. It is about searching for information first and explaining second, in contrast to ChatGPT Search. I used to prefer using LinkedIn over other social media platforms like Instagram due to the rich and high-quality professional content and limited spam. I used to post a lot of content as well, especially during the pandemic but I stopped posting as content overload increased over time. I used LinkedIn as a way to improve my writing as well as to learn from other professionals on a completely new perspective on topics that I write on. The content overload has negatively impacted my user experience. Few examples of the recent content and feature clutter problem I've observed on LinkedIn: New AI tools and features have been coming out every day which is exciting to me as a tech enthusiast but the number of people who post the same type of content repeatedly on LinkedIn defeats the purpose for someone like me who wants to gain valuable insights and relevant updates.Contribute Expertise is a really great feature on LinkedIn in my opinion to learn things and experiment in my day-to-day work but the number of plagiarized answers has put me in a position to not use the feature at all. The positive intent of the feature has been overshadowed by the content practices that stray from LinkedIn's mission.I am still trying to understand the need for games/puzzles on LinkedIn. It reminds me of good old Farmville days on Facebook although I don't see the relevance on LinkedIn. Let's take a step back and look at the mission and vision of LinkedIn before diving deep into the pain points and potential solutions. Combining the above tools can help LinkedIn generate a cohesive user experience aimed at reducing content clutter and more user-centric experience. Customizable Notification Controls: The current notification center is too extensive and hard to use. Analyzing user behavior to suggest relevant notification preferences can help improve the user experience. Personalized Feed Filters: Advanced filter options allow users to adjust their feeds based on relevant topics, industries, and connection levels, all powered by AI for a more dynamic feed. Tags do help alleviate this issue to a certain extent but it's not foolproof. LinkedIn Games: Since LinkedIn hasn't really been a platform that I really want to play games on, I think it can tune the current games feature in order to align with its mission. They can gamify so that users can learn or update their skills in various topics. Taking the Duolingo approach for learning product management skills, software development skills, marketing, etc. would be really nice to explore. Similar to the LinkedIn top Voice badge, gamification can add more badges would really encourage users to create more genuine content or learn new skills that could benefit a lot of users. I personally have a lot of ideas that I would love to see on the topic. One of my side projects has been on similar lines which I could speak for pages in a different blog post. AI for Content Quality Scoring is another feature that I highly value. Similar to how ChatGPT content can be upvoted or downvoted, LinkedIn could add this feature for users other than the author of the post to upvote or downvote and this data doesn't need to be shared with the author. But LinkedIn could use it to recommend or bring this content up the order. This doesn't mean this has to be the only way to determine the content quality but can be used as an additional parameter that can be considered for their algorithmic challenges. In summary, there are still a lot more ideas that I could think of like optimizing or changing the Contribute Expertise feature and Article Feature. Job-related features are a different beast altogether to tackle, but overall, I feel LinkedIn has done a pretty good job so far, and I hope they continue improving the overload problem on both the content and feature set by leveraging AI. You Need to Be in IT or Know Programming to Use AI The idea that AI is solely for IT professionals or those who can code is a relic of the past. Today, tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, and other AI platforms have simplified user interfaces and accessible functionalities that cater to everyone, from writers and marketers to students and retirees. These platforms enable users to benefit from AI with just a few clicks, dragging and dropping content or engaging in natural language conversations. ICYMI: You can actually use AI to write code even if you’re not a programmer. Platforms like ChatGPT can generate snippets of code in Python, JavaScript, or even obscure languages like COBOL—all based on simple prompts. This means non-technical users can dabble in coding projects, troubleshoot errors, or automate mundane tasks without ever opening a coding textbook.
