Why the Fuss About Serverless?

Hello, In this article, I will cover creating simple static websites with Hugo, a static website creation tool written in golang, hosting and publishing them on Github. For this, I plan to prepare two different websites and use different third-party web services that will be useful to us while preparing them. First of all, I will talk about the use of Hugo and then I will continue by creating a simple website. Hugo Hugo is a static website generator written in Go. This framework can quickly create a static website with terminal commands, thanks to a freely installed and available CLI tool. It also has different deployment options. In the hosting and deployment section of the site, it is explained how the website can be hosted on different web hosting platforms. But in this article, I will build a website that will be hosted on GitHub and run in the domain . gohugo.io username.github.io To download the framework and for a quick start, you can go to to install it on your system and start right away. If you are using a GNU distribution, the package is probably in your repository. On Ubuntu and Debian repositories Hugo can be installed with; gohugo.io $ sudo apt install hugo On Fedora repositories Hugo can be installed with; $ sudo dnf install hugo In official website, it recommends installation with homebrew for both Linux and Mac. The file hierarchy is as follows. The config. the file is the file that allows us to configure the website. Now, this will open a blank page. Because there is no file in the layout.

But in this article, I will only create web pages using ready-made templates. gohugo.io Creating a Static Portfolio Page Portfolio pages are one of the best examples of static pages. These are the types of pages where the works are done are exhibited and other accounts or communication e-mails are given as links. To create it, I first need to clone it with git by selecting from the portfolio themes listed on the page. I choose the theme named Hugo-shell-theme. One of the reasons why I prefer it is that it has a very simple structure. I will make my first attempt using this theme. $ hugo server -t hugo-theme-shell -w -D and starting the Hugo is currently running on the local server but without any configuration. for this, I copy the content of the config. toml gave on the Github page of the theme and paste it into my config file in the directory. In the following sections, I will talk about a more user-experience-oriented method. e-commerce and product presentation pages In this section, I will try the Hero theme. Hero has a familiar type of company landing page and a clean interface. That's why I chose this theme. I'm creating a new website with Hugo. Then I clone this theme with git into the theme directory. There is a directory named example-site in the theme. This directory contains a pre-configured file and a ready-made website. I copy the contents of this directory to my home directory. Then I open my config file with an editor and delete the themesDir parameter. This way you can create websites to promote products or for a company portfolio. Github Pages There are multiple options for hosting a website built with Hugo. You can see the host and deployment options from the Hosting&Deployment link. We can host our website with services such as Github, GitLab, netlify firebase. In the Github option, you can access the page we created via the domain. In this application, I will work on Github. username.github.io We can publish our portfolio site, one of the websites we have prepared so far, on our GitHub domain. For this, we go to the directory where our portfolio website is located and create our website with the Hugo command in this directory. A public file will be created in the directory and there will be our website using HTML to be published in this directory. If we submit it to our git repo within this directory we can publish our website using Pages there. We go to the Github page and open a repo named . username.github.io We are connecting the public directory created according to the diagram above to our relevant git repo. myHugoSite $ cd public

Different architecture for GitHub If we want to publish our website over a subdomain with the same name as the repo, we can open a new repo and send the files in the public to this repo and publish it. If we examine the diagram below, we can create a website in our local system and keep this site on Github. We can create a submodule link from another git repo in the "themes" directory. We can publish our files to be published with by sending them to a new repo using the subdomain name to be published. Github Pages You can create a submodule with mySite/ $ git submodule add http://github.com/Yukuro/hugo-theme-shell.git themes/hugo-theme-shell mySite/ $ hugo -d ../myPortfolio We can create HTML files in a directory called myPortfolio, which is in the same directory as our Hugo website using the command above. Then we can link this directory to the GitHub repo and publish our website on a subdomain with the same name as the repo. Hugo and Forestry.io is a web service that makes it easy to manage the contents of our website on GitHub using a graphical interface. This service is a CMS tool that works with frameworks such as Hugo, Jekyll. Content entry in personal blogs can be done easily. You can get more detailed information on the page. It has a simple use. We just have to register for the service and then create a new registration with add site in the "My Sites" section and select Hugo as the "static site generator". And then we connect our repo with the service by choosing a git provider. Forestry.io forestry.io Then we can prepare our posts in the blog in the document types we choose. Apart from this, many CMS applications work with Hugo. Cloudcannon, , netlifyCMS can be given as examples. These are the systems we can use to organize our content between host and deployment. strapi.io The loop in the diagram represents the CMS service. With CMS services, operations such as content creation and editing can be done before deployment. By connecting with services such as AWS, Netlify, content editing can be done between the git provider and the deployment service. And at the same time, it provides synchronization with the website maintained in git.

McAfee Coin, IOB, and CWB: A Bright Future for Venture Capital

Introduction The story began in October 2016. I decided to diversify my investment portfolio with some virtual coins. I checked one of the ICOs which was starting those days. It looked pretty attractive but I needed to buy some other coins in order to buy for them the new one. This scheme looked suspicious for me and I declined. A month later I was checking projects on Upwork. Sometimes there could be something interesting. And I found offer for windows/Linux sysadmin job with “huge perspective”. I run small IT and have several Linux DevOps/System engineers. I decided to try working for “huge perspectives”. business During Skype interview very cute guy whose name was Sean described me that he invented new monetary system(!) which manages data integrity through several independent servers and I must run one of them. The job did not look complex — MySQL database and 100-line script which must answer http requests. All this could be maintained by implementing simple backup & monitoring solutions. Also the system must satisfy strict security requirements. Sean offered payment — 1% of all his new coins divided by 60 months. So every months salary was about 200000 coins. We did not even know the initial price of these coins. But taking into account the quantity of units (2²⁴) and absence of possibility to emit new ones, the small research comes to the market price of at least $0,1 and, in case of luck, even more. Maintaining not complex server for $20k monthly is really good perspective… I decided that God remembered about my desire to invest something in coins and gives me 100 times more — possibility to enter coin project on the earliest possible stage. Actually i was third or fourth participant after Sean. The result was unpredictable: we’ve got line of people who wanted to try the new product. Mostly they were cryptocurrencies investors who thought that we are introducing new product and it is time to buy it at initial low price. The amount of sold coins was not very big. Current ICOs raise millions in minutes. And we took only several dozen thousand. Since it was not ICO but only preICO test we decided thats it is OK. This small success has given us assurance that we are on right way. BUT some of us started to think about our project as about something messianic. We started to think about ourselves as about “new century in virtual currencies era”. We started to tell people about RAIDA in comparison with that it is like jet against propeller aircraft… blockchain Sobering But market waited from us something. If you’ve said “A” say “B”. Where is liquidity? Where is true decentralisation and scalability of operations? Where is clear description of splitting — the variant of emission which comes in form of doubling all coins when the one will evaluate $2. Where are exchanges? We realised that all these questions must be answered in months even weeks. And since May we are watching cryptocurrencies BOOM you all know about. This requires from us high speed of presenting to market all that it wants. We had all answers for market questions but we did not implement them yet. We have plan or RAIDA scaling to 800 and more nodes so it will be in hierarchical structure like DNS, we have plans on issuing cryptotoken and getting to cryptocurrency exchanges. We have solution on making crowdfunding ICO… And we have scientific research which shows the simplicity of our coins circulating mechanisms in comparison with cryptocurrencies… Looks like we have a big gold nugget but can not to divide it for sale. In autumn we will be witnesses of many ICOs. The idea of ICOs probably will be compromised by some unclean projects and there is a question whether to go with our crypto token ICO or to choose some another way of funding. The fever has over. Time to work. We found nugget in the river and now have to raise it over high bank to be able to show to people… No pains no gains Somebody could say: “aah it is so simple to invent new money and to sell it. It is 100% value added thing.” Or even: “you sell air!” I have to say that project of this kind is very hard to execute. There are a lot of details you have to achieve with quality and in time in order to be successful. There is no place for self-delusion at all. You have to work and work and work. And even if you worked hard it is not guaranteed that you will get successful.
