Suddenly, they’re on the couch eating chips, and you’re left wondering, “Where do I put my stuff? Is this really what I signed up for?” In tech, onboarding is often rushed—a box to check before new hires start coding. But poor onboarding isn’t just frustrating; it’s a silent productivity killer. The Problem For many developers, onboarding is like being thrown into a maze with a half-finished map and hoping they’ll figure it out. You’re handed a laptop, access to a few tools, and maybe a “buddy” to show you around. But without clear guidelines, expectations, or structure, it quickly becomes chaotic—especially in larger organizations. Instead of hitting the ground running, you’re left navigating a minefield of confusion and bottlenecks. One of the biggest myths? That simply assigning a buddy solves everything. Sure, having a go-to person can help, but without clear goals and structure, this approach leaves gaps. Why the Traditional Checklist Isn’t Enough Many companies still treat onboarding as a checklist: grant tool access, set up emails, assign a few tasks, and call it a day. But this “transactional” approach misses the mark. Checklists are great for covering the basics—the “how” of a role—but rarely address the “why.” New developers need more than a tour of tools; they need a clear understanding of the mission, purpose, and impact of their work. Without that, engagement suffers, and new hires quickly feel like just another cog in the machine. My take is that we need to approach onboarding with the same care and thoughtfulness we put into hiring. Rather than rushing through orientation and tool setup, onboarding should gradually integrate new developers through role-specific workflows and clear milestones that help them see both the technical and strategic context of their work. A checklist is where passion goes to die. Onboarding needs to be dynamic, intentional, and empowering, giving developers a clear path to early wins and a strong sense of purpose from day one! Breaking Down Knowledge Silos One of the biggest onboarding headaches is knowledge silos. Developers constantly need info that’s scattered across teams, tools, and documents. Chasing down these details every week isn’t just a productivity drain; it’s frustrating. Imagine flipping the process so it’s not just up to the stakeholder creating the onboarding journey to attach relevant knowledge. Instead, the system could actively surface the right information for new developers at the right time, reducing back-and-forth. This is the direction I envision—starting with building a structured journey, integrating essential apps, attaching relevant knowledge, and automating its delivery. I also think community-generated templates are a great idea—a library that evolves and improves with real-world input. There’s a lot more to explore here, and it’s an exciting road ahead! I asked Killian Dunne, CTO of Telepathic, "How do you think templates could support onboarding efficiency and consistency across teams?" His response: It’s a huge hassle to keep making resources and then going through the same onboarding process every time with technical hires. If you're able to significantly cut down that setup and training time then that’d be huge! Onboarding and Retention: Two Sides of the Same Coin Onboarding and retention are intrinsically linked. A positive onboarding experience makes developers feel valued and supported, which is key to long-term satisfaction and engagement. For years, Netflix built a reputation as a haven for movie makers seeking artistic freedom – the New Hollywood alternative to the way traditional studios created and distributed movies. Netflix’s approach, prioritizing streaming with some limited theatrical runs, attracted auteurs like Martin Scorsese and Alfonso Cuarón, who sought backing for riskier projects. But this model is now facing pushback from filmmakers who see the potential for box office success. The Glass Onion Controversy Netflix’s current model consists of either streaming movies out of the gate or in a few cases exhibiting them in theaters for very limited runs. Of course, once a movie goes exclusively to streaming, filmmakers lose out on box-office revenues they would earn when movies play in theaters. It is only a few days before the US Presidential Elections. Trump and his teammates have promised a more liberal approach towards crypto than Democrats. In this article, I’d like to describe possible upgrades in the US crypto regulation that Donald Trump may make. What exactly did Trump promise to the crypto community? While Kamala Harris only mentioned cryptocurrencies for the first time at the end of her campaign, Trump has been discussing them a lot this year. He held personal events and meetings dedicated to cryptocurrency, including his speech this July at the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville. During the event the Republican candidate promised that he would not allow the creation of CBDC, the digital dollar - so as not to restrict Americans' financial freedom. Also, Trump promised to create a strategic reserve of Bitcoin, he emphasized that the US Government under him will no longer sell Bitcoin and will hodl it. Moreover, he pointed out the creation of special task force for crypto policy of US - Bitcoin and crypto presidential advisory council. The Republican Party's program also has a paragraph dedicated to crypto - about protecting the rights of Americans to self-dispose of their own assets: “We will defend the right to mine Bitcoin, and ensure every American has the right to self-custody of their Digital Assets, and transact free from Government Surveillance and Control.” And it is still the biggest emphasis from Republicans is that they will not allow the creation of CBDC, the government's digital currency. This point is primarily important for libertarian voters and wealthy Americans. After all, CBDC by its properties implies even greater government control over currency than classic fiat currency. Bitcoin Bill During the Bitcoin Conference, where Trump lavished his promises to Bitcoiners, Republican Senator Cynthia Lumis also spoke. Let's talk more about this senator and its legal initiatives. On the other hand, Democrats may at least modify some provisions of the bill or even advocate its rejection as populist and risky for public finances. However, there are also Democrats who support this bill, such as Democratic Representative Ro Khanna. What really matters for the future of crypto in US? However, Trump's promises to stop CBDC and make Bitcoin reserve are just the tip of the iceberg in regulating cryptocurrencies in the US. What matters to crypto businesses and regular users is the regulation of cryptocurrencies in the country as a whole - rights of crypto users and opportunities for investors, licensing requirements for legal entities, as well as taxation of crypto gains. Many lawmakers believe that the SEC abuses its powers and restrains the development of crypto-business in the United States. Two SEC commissioners (Hester Pierce and Mark Uyeda) also speak a lot about it. The FIT21 law is essential to make the legal landscape on crypto more defined and transparent. Since Cyntia Lummis supported Trump's Bitcoin Reserve initiative and she also worked on the Financial Innovation Act, along with Congressman Patrick McHenry, there is little doubt that this legislation will be supported by the Republicans after the election and Trump, being an elected President, can support final approval of FIT21 in the Senate. What about Stablecoin Act? This law proposed by the same Cynthia Lummis and Kirsten Gillibrand (democrat) create a transparent framework for stablecoin regulation in the US, since now there is no clear regulation. Larger stablecoin issuers will be registered by the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). The law prohibits algorithmic stablecoins and requires 1-to-1 provisioning. It also gives the Fed authority to control it. Small stablecoin issuers will be licenzed on the state level. The future of this law if Trump wins is more difficult to predict - that's why it has not been put to a vote in Congress. In addition, there is no official position on it from Tether, Circle and Coinbase. Nevertheless, given that the law has support of Republicans (Patrick McHenry, Maxine Waters, Cynthia Lummis) and also Democrats (Kirsten Gillibrand) - and its requirements for issuers can be called compromise, it may also be adopted after the presidential election. Unless, of course, the new administration declares a different stance towards stablecoin. From my point of view it is in the interest of the US to make dollar pegged stablecoins available to users worldwide. In this regard, unfortunately, the position of Janet Yellen looks very strange, who stated the danger of investments from issuers of stablecoins to US T-bills. You can see that in the European Union local stablecoin market is developing slow - it has over regulation because of some MiCA requirements - which is too tough for EUR backed stablecoins. I hope that the new US president and lawmakers will make more flexible regulations for stablecoins. Why republicans (and democrats) care about crypto so much? It’s founded by Coinbase ($50 mln), Ripple ($49 mln), Jump Crypto ($15 mln), Andersen Horovitz ($1,75 mln), Payward, Circle, Paradigm and some other donors. By the way, this structure finances not only Republican candidates, but also some Democrats. According to Public Citizen, its task is also to prevent the election of those who have a bad attitude towards cryptocurrencies. This May Donald Trump campaign started to accept donations in crypto and it got about $7,5 mln according to CNBC. According to Washington Post crypto entrepreneur David Bailey has promised to Trump $15 mln of donations before his visit to Nashvielle. Also Donald Trump got donations from Gemini founders - Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss - $1 million in Bitcoin each. However, Harris and other Democrats are also getting support from some cryptocurrency entrepreneurs - like Chris Larsen (Ripple) and Tim Drapper. Of course the money factor plays a big role, but we can't ignore the other thing - the real mistakes of the outgoing Biden administration (and Gary Gensler) in relation to cryptocurrency regulation. FIT21 law, which got bipartisan support of Congress was never passed. Without normal regulation of cryptocurrencies, the U.S. simply gives its position on the cryptomarket to other countries. Conclusion The need to pass new crypto billsis long overdue and lawmakers realize it, its main opponent - Gary Gensler is likely to resign from his post even if Harris wins the election. Its evolution from childhood curiosity to adult convention and ultimately to creative mastery defines how we perceive and interact with the world around us. These stages — known as the Original Mind, the Conventional Mind, and the Dimensional Mind — shape our capacity for creativity, adaptability, and growth. The journey from an original to a dimensional mind reveals a transformative potential within each of us. By understanding and nurturing these aspects, we unlock the ability to think freely, deeply, and innovatively, blending innocence with insight to reach higher levels of personal mastery. There are various ways to define them, and I will use a simple way to discuss them and how they can mend our lives. First, let us understand what each of them are. The Minds That We Have. The original mind is the mind that we had when we were children, the mind that a child possesses. It is pure, untouched, open to everything, and analyzing, learning every bit that comes inside this mind. It looked at the world more directly, not through the words that it received, not through the ideas that it received, and certainly not through the suggestions it received while executing any task at hand. It was flexible and receptive to the new information. There was no filter installed, and no limitation to its learning. This mind is the most creative one there is. If you give a child a task to do, he will find the most creative way to perform that task. Children are naturally creative. They actively transform everything around them, play with their ideas and circumstances, and surprise us with the novel things they do or are able to do. As time passes by, this quality of our mind inevitably diminishes. We see the world through the screen of words and opinions that are passed on to us. Our prior experiences, which have been added to our inventory, apply the Sieve to the information that goes inside our minds. We now no longer look at things as they are, notice them, or wonder why they exist. Our minds become compact and tighten in their flexibility. We have developed beliefs and assumptions, and we become defensive of them. If they are attacked, we feel hurt and upset. This is the mind that is known as the Conventional Mind. In other words, this mind is possessed by all the adults. There are various contributors to the way new think with this mind, like the pressure of making a living and conforming to the rules and laws of society. We force our minds into ever-tighter compartments, molding our brains to the ways that society wants us to. We lose most of the originality of our minds that was there when we were children. We lose touch with our childhood selves. Finally, there is the Dimensional mind. This mind is able to use Both the Original mind of childhood and the conventional mind of adults to have creative, novel solutions to real-world problems. These solutions the children can not get (mainly), and the conventional mind is not able to even comprehend. Creative persons are the ones who manage to retain a sizeable portion of their childhood spirit with an original mind. The dimensional mind is able to add bread and butter to the novelty of the original mind. It is able to focus on problems and ideas deeply, leading to a higher level of creativity, which was limited in the original mind. What kills our creative force is not age or lack of talent but our spirit and our attitude. We are afraid of new ideas and the efforts that may be required. Our minds become dead because of the lack of challenge and novelty. The conventional mind is passive; it consumes information and reproduces that information in familiar forms. The Dimensional mind is active. It transforms everything it takes in and creates something new and original, thus creating instead of consuming. The Dimensional mind has two requirements: High level of knowledge of the subject
The openers and flexibility to use that knowledge in new and original ways. Once the dimensional mind is opened, we become masters, and change becomes inevitable. Reclaiming the essence of our Original Mind, enhancing it with the Conventional Mind’s learned wisdom, and cultivating the active creativity of the Dimensional Mind empower us to transform our lives and surroundings. At the time, I and others thought their apathy created an opportunity: we get to introduce people to a new world-changing technology! Nope. With the introduction of ETFs, Wall Street took that job. We kept Michael Saylor, they got Larry Fink. VCs have invested billions of dollars into crypto start-ups. They are now the face of crypto, pushing overpriced tokens for projects that have atrocious tokenomics and astronomical valuations. Memecoins suck up investment capital and get the attention on social media. Some altcoins have created new paradigms that stretch the boundaries of what’s possible, but they toil in the shadows. You only hear about them on Telegram, Twitter, and Medium (unless some influencer shills them). “At least you can make money on meme coins,” they say. Which is basically what crypto has become. A way to make money. The faster, the better. You can understand why. Most people don’t worry about inverted yield curves and undercapitalized banks. Nor do they recognize violations of their privacy and human rights. They don’t have any problems with the authorities. In fact, they look for those authorities to fix their problems. Some lose but find niche applications. Some just lose. We grow, prosper, and move on. Not so with crypto. You don’t get rewarded for creating things people use. All that matters is whether your token goes up. As a result, people don’t make useful things. They sell tokens for cash and spend it on other things. As a result, you have millions of people who don’t know anything about cryptocurrency, but they see Wall Street’s talking heads saying it’s good for your portfolio and people like us saying they’ll make money from tokens.   As such, is it any wonder that they flock to NFTs, memecoins, and new “L2s?” Should you need to wonder why prediction markets and decentralized exchanges remain the most popular crypto apps? We have a form of Dutch disease, an economic phenomenon in which so many people make money from one activity that they stop investing in other activities. They simply buy the things they want with the money they get. This is the premise of my first book, Consensusland. The country makes so much money selling crypto, nobody does anything else. They cash out their crypto, buy what they want, and find new cryptos to sell. Stifling, not liberating Sounds nice, doesn’t it? That's great for us early buyers, but no way to build an industry. Imagine what people would’ve said about AI if the most prominent advocates shouted “long the robots, short the humans!” or “buy these 5 robots to make $1 million in 2024?” Some people worked on robots, others worked on computers, and they occasionally collaborated on cross-disciplinary projects while “the mainstream” simply used whatever they came up with. They didn't have any tokens to sell. They had to create useful things before they could make money. Everybody recognized the value in AI and the money they could make. But that was the outcome, not the goal. With cryptocurrency, the profit comes before the work. The problem? By the time the work matters, developers have already made their money. VCs have already recovered their investments and, in some cases, cashed out completely. The teams have already gotten paid. They don't care anymore. The Great Letdown I fully empathize with Bitcoin maximalists. They see a world of opportunity that goes far beyond whatever cash they can make from flipping NFTs and memecoins. I want that world, too — a fairer, more equitable monetary system that’s accessible to everybody and does not let governments destroy the value of your money. How about we talk about human rights and corruption, better financial systems, more privacy, and lower business costs? Cryptocurrency solves many problems. You’d think it should be easy to get people on board, right? To show them how useful it is? Why it matters? Nope. No money in that. Crypto will not matter until you decide to let it matter If you’re HODLing Bitcoin for Lambos or using it to promote yourself, you’re doing the same thing. That’s why people only think about crypto when prices go up. Through our actions, we make it seem like “price go up” is the only thing crypto has to offer. Until that changes, nobody will take us seriously. Nobody will care about the technology, its applications, or any of the wonderful things people are trying to build. We have replaced value creation with raw speculation, but people inherently crave value. They care about things that make their lives better. They'll pump our bags and give you exit liquidity, if you choose to take it. That's probably why you got into crypto in the first place. Eventually, the well will run dry. Speculators will lose enough money that they will stop chasing fast profits. What happens when people realize they can't make money from crypto anymore?
