Are you bold enough to say what you need to say in a meeting or do you feel knots in your stomach and refuse to speak up? You may find it hard to share your voice in a meeting because of these limiting beliefs: What if they think my idea is stupid? I don’t have anything valuable to say. It’s only half-baked. Others have better ideas. It’s better to keep quiet than sound foolish. Being able to speak up on the spot is a very valuable skill. Sharing your perspective or contributing to the discussion even in small ways not only projects confidence, it also builds credibility. But how do you find the courage to do so when your heart starts racing at the thought of uttering even a few words? How can you say something that can potentially make you appear silly, feel embarrassed or look incompetent? Human beings are programmed to suppress negative emotions as a means of self-protection. This makes you naturally avoid anything that may feel unsafe. Speaking up in a meeting is not a real threat, but your brain incapable of distinguishing between a real and perceived threat treats it like one. Desire to avoid the negative emotion makes you stay silent as opposed to voicing your opinion. Giving power to circling negative thoughts in your mind refrains you from contributing and sharing your valuable ideas and opinions. Staying silent inhibits you from making meaningful contributions to your team and organization. Vulnerability is not weakness, and the uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure we face every day are not optional. Our only choice is a question of engagement. Our willingness to own and engage with our vulnerability determines the depth of our courage and the clarity of our purpose; the level to which we protect ourselves from being vulnerable is a measure of our fear and disconnection - Brené Brown Embrace vulnerability. Put your guard down. Staying silent makes you invisible while speaking up is powerful as it gives you a voice. Sharing your thoughts enables others to connect, communicate and collaborate with you. It builds confidence. Try these 4 practices to speak up in meetings: Accept your fears The biggest hurdle to speaking up in meetings is fear—fear of being judged, fear of being considered stupid, incompetent, unworthy, or silly. You may be fearful because you’re new to the organization, less experienced or may think your ideas are so small that they can never influence the decision. Fear can also show up when you’re part of an important discussion where there’s more at stake and you don’t feel confident about your ideas, knowledge or competence. Whatever the reason, you can’t wait for the fear to disappear before sharing things on your mind. Genuine confidence doesn’t come from lack of fear. It’s built by changing your relationship with fear or as Russ Harris puts it - “The actions of confidence come first; the feelings of confidence come later.” Instead of waiting for confidence to speak, speak to build confidence. When you act like the person you wish to become, your mind tunes to this new reality. Speaking up in meetings which earlier appeared daunting will soon become second nature—it will turn into a habit. Whenever your mind advises you that it’s not wise to speak, don’t trust it. Question your thoughts. Connect with your emotions. Are you sensing fear? Acknowledge you’re feeling fearful. Let your fear sit by your side while you pick up the courage to utter the first few words. Invert your thinking One of the reasons we don’t speak up in meetings is our tendency to assume the worst. We imagine the worst case scenarios and play them in our mind on repeat. Negativity bias—our tendency to attend to, learn from, and use negative information far more than positive information—makes us internalize these unhelpful thoughts without questioning them. A great way to switch our mind from defaulting to negativity requires reversing our thinking. Inversion is one of the most powerful, yet simple mental models to reframe negativity into positivity. When trying to speak up in meetings, our natural mode of thinking looks for answers to: How can I avoid looking stupid? What if no one likes my idea? Why would anyone care about my opinion? Isn’t it safer to stay silent than say things that don’t make sense? By inverting our thinking, we can instead ask ourselves: I won’t know what others think unless I say it. What can I learn from sharing my views with others? It’s ok for others to disagree or not like my idea. How can I use this information to improve the way I think or make decisions? Others can only value my opinion when I speak my mind and share my honest opinions. How can I slowly add value to these discussions? I may not have the complete information or the best idea, but even if there’s a small chance it can be useful to my team, I am responsible to share it and not hold myself back. How can my idea help my team? This form of reverse questioning can help us break our default thinking pattern and shift from spiraling downwards in negativity to lifting upwards with positivity. Inversion is a powerful tool to improve your thinking because it helps you identify and remove obstacles to success. — Shane Parrish Start with something small A big obstacle to speaking in meetings is our desire to make the best arguments, present the best ideas or say extraordinary things. But coming up with great things to say is not always easy and they aren’t the only way to contribute. Sometimes even a simple observation, an honest opinion or your curiosity to understand more can give way to a powerful conversation and enable better decision making. I won’t recommend jumping straight to big, bold arguments and conclusions unless you have shown the courage to share less conflicting opinions first. This is because going big can sometimes backfire. Others can’t trust your judgment when you hardly speak. However, when you start small, you not only reduce the risk of getting a backlash, but seeing others appreciate your opinion gives you the confidence to voice your opinion and not hold yourself back. We are A-to-Z thinkers, fretting about A, obsessing over Z, yet forgetting all about B through Y - Ryan Holiday Starting small enables you to take those steps from B to Y instead of one giant leap from A to Z. To start small, look for small opportunities in the meeting when you can speak. Can you ask them to share more data on their conclusion? Can you state your observations? Can you show your support? Can you appreciate their insights? Can you seek clarifications? Can you reframe the problem? Can you make a small suggestion? Remember though, don’t try to put others down, act mean or belittle them in any way. Your voice should be seen as lifting others up, not putting them down. Even if you disagree with their view or their decision, do so respectfully—state your rationale, politely share your disagreement and ask for their opinion. Only when others see you making meaningful contributions to their discussion, will they seek your opinion next time around. Frame it as a question You have embraced your fears, you have reframed it as an opportunity to learn and you’ve decided to start small. But you may still find yourself unable to speak in a group setting. That’s because you may still be missing one crucial element—being direct or asserting your opinion requires experience and practice. Your mind is stormed with what-ifs which prevent you from using the right opportunity—What if others think you’re arrogant? What if they feel offended? These what-ifs can take up so much of your mental bandwidth that there’s hardly any left to speak. Being straightforward has its advantages, but when it doesn’t work, you don’t need to give up. You can escape this mental barrier by asking a question instead because it’s easier to frame a question than assert your opinion. For example: Instead of: This will never succeed. Say: In which ways can this fail? Instead of: I suggest we do “…”* Say: I have an idea on how we can approach it. Would you like to hear it? Instead of: This is incomplete data. We can’t rely on it. Say: What additional data can help us make a better decision? Instead of: I don’t agree with you. Say: Can I share a different opinion on it? A question puts you in a positive light—curious, thoughtful and attentive. It doesn’t need much preparation and is definitely less risky. Reframing what you need to say in the form of a question also makes others more receptive. They can disregard a statement, but a question can’t be easily ignored or avoided. Sometimes the best advice you can offer are questions. Questions make way for clarity. — Chinonye J. Note: a SWOT analysis is an evaluation of the fundamental, operational, technical, social, economic, and even to some degree administrative elements of a project. This is not a model to be used for trading purposes. (NFA, DYOR) Composed of four elements, Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats, a SWOT analysis framework provides excellent insight for establishing a high-level understanding of the state of a project's well-being through the lens of a birds-eye view. It can help formulate decisions around which areas require more attention, set performance goals, and organize a foundational understanding of where a project is headed. Rarely (if ever) used in crypto, it is time to apply this timeless method of evaluation to the digital asset space. Today, ), the industry’s leading layer-two optimistic rollup, will get a SWOT. Arbitrum (ARB 💪 Strengths (Internal) (Helpful) 1. DAO Governance Structure Arbitrum heavily emphasizes decentralization. Everywhere, from the website to the docs, to the blogs, and even the AMAs, the word decentralization is lavishly applied. The industry is already well aware that Rollups as a solution, by their inherent architecture, are more centralized; nevertheless, Arbitrum has put a lot of effort towards realizing its progressive decentralization approach by distributing a noteworthy degree of influence over the network to the DAO. Arbitrum DAO controls both public chains, Arbitrum One and Nova. 2. Community Orientation Community in Crypto is the defacto ultimate asset and metric for gauging the viability/sustainability of a project. At the core of Arbitrum's success is the extremely loyal community that has sprung up. More than just the quantitative factors, such as passing the million social media followers count, is the quality of that community. Scooping up a lot of members who were displaced during the last bear market cycle, Arbitrum has recruited people who are well-versed and capable of navigating/interacting with Web3. These people, for the most part, have become devout believers in the project by becoming stakeholders via the Airdrop. Subjected to wealth effects, most members have shown a reluctance to dump their positions and instead coordinate to help bolster the ecosystem (users of the ARB airdrop would rather help a Dapp increase its TVL or invest in some early-stage projects building on Arbitrum). 3. First Mover Advantage Arbitrum was the first layer two/rollup to launch on mainnet back in August of 2021. Being the first on the scene allowed Arbitrum to build the strongest foundation of members, tooling, and influence over the narrative within the scaling sector. As the industry continues to grow, new incoming projects will look to Arbitrum for inspiration and technological solutions, cementing the presence of Arbitrum indefinitely. 4. Sequencer Decentralization The most sensitive architectural element of rollups that has riled crypto-puritans (decentralization maxis) is the role of sequencers. Sequencers are network nodes that, as the name might imply, organize transactions and control the flow of activity. This kind of power in an economic setting can be worrisome for reasons of MEV; if a single entity is building the chain, they can theoretically dictate what goes when and how. Acutely aware of this, Arbitrum has been careful with its Sequencer design, implementing FCFS (first-come-first-serve) ordering mechanisms for transactions ahead of time. Moving forward, the project plans of further de-risking the ecosystems by decentralizing the sequencer role. 5. Stylus Upgrade Upgrading its Nitro stack by adding Web Assembly into the mix. One of the fundamental bottlenecks that has long faced the Web3 industry is developer adoption. Of the ~28 million developers globally, crypto's monthly actives are floating around ~20 thousand, or less than 0.1% of mindshare. A prominent point of friction is the need to learn new languages. Abritum believes that in order to onboard the next 1,000,000 developers, we must reduce the learning curve by allowing for the creation of contracts in any language while not breaking EVM compatibility. By synthesizing the EVM with a WASM-based VM, devs can sidestep having to learn Solidity and just be able to deploy code in Rust, C, and C++. Deploying through the WAVM also offers an order of magnitude of improvement in execution/operational efficiency, allowing for more radical use cases (such as bringing in AI models). 6. BOLD Protocol Further contributing to its mission of decentralization, Arbitrum is implementing a new validator dispute system to optimize for permissionless validation. Based on an "all-vs-all' model, BOLD (Bounded Liquidity Delay) will empower any network participant with the right to challenge the correctness of the chain. Ultimately, the objectives of BOLD are to mitigate delay attacks (where malicious entities have the ability to indefinitely postpone resolution by re-triggering the settlement before it completes) and improve safety and liveness. The sheer capability to implement a system like this emphasizes Arbitrum's qualitative security measurements and sets them apart from other L2s that do not support fraud proofs (yet*). 7. Timeboost Integration MEV is the notorious art of on-chain extortion, but only for the end users. Thus far, Arbitrum has done a decent job at combating MEV through its FCFS model and lack of mempool. However, MEV has proven to be an important element to address for the profitability of a network. Removing MEV entirely means removing the associated revenue that it could generate. With the implementation of Timeboost, Arbitrum hopes to extrapolate benign MEV (arbitrage and back-ordering) by introducing fast, sealed-bid, priority gas auctions. Similar to what Ethereum currently does, priority gas auctions allow for users to submit extra fees to ensure their transactions are included faster. Sealed Bid means that nobody will actually know any sensitive information about the transactions (existing in a privacy-preserving mempool). So long as this truly does not allow for evil MEV (sandwiching or front-running), then this would be a net benefit to the network operators that can now capture any loose value flowing through the network. 😞 Weaknesses (Internal) (Harmful) 1. High FDV During Bull Runs, project valuations can reach irrational, psychotic levels. The younger a project, the more economic sense it makes for it to have modest valuations. Launching >11.6 Billion ARB tokens (~11.6% supply) via airdrop, with a unit price of ~$1.20, Arbitrum came to market with a Fully Diluted Valuation of over $12,000,000,000 right out of the gate. Two and a half years into circulation have passed, and the token remains floating around the same place. Going into the next cycle, the already massive capitalization can potentially suppress the upside action. 2. Low Circulating Supply Deterrant for potential investors that understand the inevitable financial physics that accompanies increases in circulating supply. The lower the circulating supply, the more impactful the near-medium term sell pressure, and the more dilution that is to be expected for existing holders. With over two and half years of history and still a meager ~12.5% supply in circulation, ARB token holders will be deprived of potential gains. 3. Security Council Arbitrum deserves immense credit for the elegance and sophistication of the solution that it has built. From the technology to the brand to the community, everything is top-tier. However, one sensitive point that should be highlighted is that the Arbitrum ecosystem is still ultimately subject to a ruling class of operators in the form of the Security Council. Regardless of the systematization of DAO governance and the fancy language used to describe the granularities of control, everything ultimately rests in the hands of the Security Council. The council's authority can circumvent any community/DAO decision and deny upgrades. While this kind of behavior is unlikely, as it is in their best interest to be an emergency-only backup, it still remains a prevalent risk vector. 🧐 Opportunities (External) (Helpful) 1. Layer 3 Orbit Solutions Stack Reminiscent of Subnets in Avalanche, Parachains in PolkaDot, or hubs in Cosmis, Arbitrum Orbit allows projects to leverage Arbitrum's functionality and primitives to launch their own custom networks. These networks are considered to be "Layer 3" in the sense that they reference Arbitrum as their "Base Chain." These Networks are independent of any Arbitrum DAO influence and can be configured to operate with their own ERC-20 as the native gas token. While the direct value feedback to $ARB itself is unclear, the costs of setting up and posting data back to Arbitrum is a baseline benefit. 2. Coming-To-Market via Airdrop Operational on mainnet for roughly ~2 very bearish years before the launch of its token, Arbitrum spent time building infrastructure, relationships, and community at a time when the entire market seemed bleak. Ultimately, launching its $ARB token into painful lows in crypto markets in March of 2023, Arbitrum became one of the few positive events that built up a hub of people buzzing about the future of crypto again. By opting for such a path, Arbitrum has become a foundational marker in the timeline of crypto history, a marker that likely cannot/ will not be removed. 3. TVL Leader Floating around ~8 Billion USD, Arbitrum has by far the most total value locked in its network of all other L2s. In second place is Optimism, which has half (~4 Billion in TVL). TVL is a reflexive metric, meaning that as TVL grows, it becomes more attractive for future TVL to join in. Having the highest TVL inadvertently also means that other networks find you much more desirable for integrating with in order to tap into your liquidity reserves. Moreover, at a time when TVL across the industry was collapsing, Arbtitrum seemed immune, attracting ~6 billion USD, growing over >175%. 3. Support from Ethereum Ecosystem Hosting over 521 applications (and growing), Arbitrum has attracted all of the major Ethereum Dapps, Uniswap, Sushiswap, Aave, 1inch, Gelato, and so on. As time moves on, Arbitrum will be able to benefit by providing for applications built natively on top of it, as well as, enjoy the benefits of applications built on Eth in the future. 😳 Threats (External) (Harmful) 1. Optimistic Transaction Model Rollups come in two general flavors, Optimistic or ZK (also sometimes called validiums). Being at such an early stage in rollups, it is nearly impossible to predict which model would ultimately prove best, which one will be the most widely adopted, or which would provide the ideal techno-economic environment. While it is likely that there will be room for both (and even potentially new, yet-to-be-discovered) options, it is likewise possible that some critical issues arise with the Optimistic model, such as a subtle way to squeeze invalid activity under the radar or causing indefinite network halts through engaging in "challenge periods," which in turn could render the entire architecture of Arbtrium sub-optimal. To be fair here, this threat universally applies to every project that is leveraging an optimistic transaction scheme. Takeaway: Arbitrum is a triple-A grade project. The leading Ethereum L2 Rollup by every measure. Many of the points about Arbtirum have dual implications, such as the presence of the Security Council, which can have arguments on both its positive and negative implications. However, the space is still so young, lacking any long-term data to prove the merits of any independent design, that the accuracy of any assumption is hard to ascertain. From every angle, economic, social, and technological, Arbitrum checks the boxes. High levels of adoption and growing, new native ARB applications, such as GMX and Gains Network gaining traction, Google Cloud joining on as a validator in the DAC (Data Availability Committee), positive network wealth effects, active fraud proofs, the list of positives are substantial. Conclusion: With any new innovation comes a degree of tradeoffs. Scaling has been discussed for nearly as long as blockchain has existed. Layer 2s have been discussed for a few years, but rollups as a technology have only now begun to seep into the foundation of the crypto industry. Arbtrium is a valid solution that holds the promise of solving one of crypto's greatest bottlenecks. If there had to be a comparative drawn between Web2 conglomerates and Web3, then Arbitrum feels like the equivalent of a Microsoft. Centralization continues to be at the core thesis of crypto and Web3. The promise of a sovereign digital economic system that radically shifts risk models away from governments and empowers users with full control over their money (and data), drives innovation and imbues the fighting spirit into this nascent industry. Without a doubt, it is important and must remain the core tenet, but the very definition of decentralization remains opaque. Arbitrum is doing an incredible job at balancing just enough efforts and conversation about decentralization as they are at understanding that not everything must be decentralized. The very ability for a project like Arbtirum to exist is decentralization in action. If somebody does not like it, they are free to go build their own competing network. We have seen that the factors of modesty are numerous. To attempt to explain modesty by dismissing it as merely an example of psychic paralysis, of Stauung, is to elude the problem by the statement of what is little more than a truism. Modesty is a complexus of emotions with their concomitant ideas which we must unravel to comprehend. We have found among the factors of modesty: (1) the primitive animal gesture of sexual refusal on the part of the female when she is not at that moment of her generative life at which she desires the male's advances; (2) the fear of arousing disgust, a fear primarily due to the close proximity of the sexual centre to the points of exit of those excretions which are useless and unpleasant, even in many cases to animals; (3) the fear of the magic influence of sexual phenomena, and the ceremonial and ritual practices primarily based on this fear, and ultimately passing into simple rules of decorum which are signs and guardians of modesty; (4) the development of ornament and clothing, concomitantly fostering alike the modesty which represses male sexual desire and the coquetry which seeks to allure it; (5) the conception of women as property, imparting a new and powerful sanction to an emotion already based on more natural and primitive facts. It must always be remembered that these factors do not usually occur separately. Very often they are all of them implied in a single impulse of modesty. We unravel the cord in order to investigate its construction, but in real life the strands are more or less indistinguishably twisted together. It may still be asked finally whether, on the whole, modesty really becomes a more prominent emotion as civilization advances. I do not think this position can be maintained. It is a great mistake, as we have seen, to suppose that in becoming extended modesty also becomes intensified. On the contrary, this very extension is a sign of weakness. Among savages, modesty is far more radical and invincible than among the civilized. Of the Araucanian women of Chile, Treutler has remarked that they are distinctly more modest than the Christian white population, and such observations might be indefinitely extended. It is, as we have already noted, in a new and crude civilization, eager to mark its separation from a barbarism it has yet scarcely escaped, that we find an extravagant and fantastic anxiety to extend the limits of modesty in life, and art, and literature. In older and more mature civilizations—in classical antiquity, in old Japan, in France—modesty, while still a very real influence, becomes a much less predominant and all-pervading influence. In life it becomes subservient to human use, in art to beauty, in literature to expression. Among ourselves we may note that modesty is a much more invincible motive among the lower social classes than among the more cultivated classes. This is so even when we should expect the influence of occupation to induce familiarity. Thus I have been told of a ballet-girl who thinks it immodest to bathe in the fashion customary at the seaside, and cannot make up her mind to do so, but she appears on the stage every night in tights as a matter of course; while Fanny Kemble, in her Reminiscences, tells of an actress, accustomed to appear in tights, who died a martyr to modesty rather than allow a surgeon to see her inflamed knee. Modesty is, indeed, a part of self-respect, but in the fully-developed human being self-respect itself holds in check any excessive modesty. [72] We must remember, moreover, that there are more definite grounds for the subordination of modesty with the development of civilization. We have seen that the factors of modesty are many, and that most of them are based on emotions which make little urgent appeal save to races in a savage or barbarous condition. Thus, disgust, as Richet has truly pointed out, necessarily decreases as knowledge increases. As we analyze and understand our experiences better, so they cause us less disgust. A rotten egg is disgusting, but the chemist feels no disgust toward sulphuretted hydrogen; while a solution of propylamin does not produce the disgusting impression of that human physical uncleanliness of which it is an odorous constituent. As disgust becomes analyzed, and as self-respect tends to increased physical purity, so the factor of disgust in modesty is minimized. The factor of ceremonial uncleanness, again, which plays so urgent a part in modesty at certain stages of culture, is to-day without influence except in so far as it survives in etiquette. In the same way the social-economic factor of modesty, based on the conception of women as property, belongs to a stage of human development which is wholly alien to an advanced civilization. Even the most fundamental impulse of all, the gesture of sexual refusal, is normally only imperative among animals and savages. Thus civilization tends to subordinate, if not to minimize, modesty, to render it a grace of life rather than a fundamental social law of life. But an essential grace of life it still remains, and whatever delicate variations it may assume we can scarcely conceive of its disappearance. [73] In the art of love, however, it is more than a grace; it must always be fundamental. Modesty is not indeed the last word of love, but it is the necessary foundation for all love's most exquisite audacities, the foundation which alone gives worth and sweetness to what Sénancour calls its "delicious impudence." But to simplify the problem, we have to suppose modesty reduced to its normal functions, disengaged from its superstitions, its variegated customs and prejudices, the true modesty of simple and healthy natures, as far removed from prudery as from immodesty. And what we term the natural, or the true in love, is the singular mingling of two forms of imaginations, wrongly supposed to be incompatible: ideal aspiration and the sense for the realities of life. Thus defined, modesty not only repudiates that cold and dissolving criticism which deprives love of all poetry, and prepares the way for a brutal realism; it also excludes that light and detached imagination which floats above love, the mere idealism of heroic sentiments, which cherishes poetic illusions, and passes, without seeing it, the love that is real and alive. True modesty implies a love not addressed to the heroes of vain romances, but to living people, with their feet on the earth. But on the other hand, modesty is the respect of love; if it is not shocked by its physical necessities, if it accepts physiological and psychological conditions, it also maintains the ideal of those moral proprieties outside of which, for all of us, love cannot be enjoyed. When love is really felt, and not vainly imagined, modesty is the requirement of an ideal of dignity, conceived as the very condition of that love. Separate modesty from love, that is, from love which is not floating in the air, but crystallized around a real person, and its psychological reality, its poignant and tragic character, disappears." How many kids do you know that don’t like cotton candy? Not many, I’m guessing. It’s probably possible to count them on one hand. My kids love the sugary treat. But they didn’t always feel that way. My daughter was three, and my son was two when we first gave them the chance to sample the pink and blue confection. My daughter dove into the sticky bag with both hands. But my son — he wanted nothing to do with it. When my wife offered him a piece of the fluff, he turned up his nose and very stubbornly refused to give it a try. Even with his sister ravenously consuming copious amounts, he wouldn’t. It was a solid “no” from him It took my son several minutes of closely watching the three of us enjoy the cotton candy before he would even take the tiniest sample in his hand. Slowly he put it to his mouth, barely getting a taste. But it was enough. It wasn’t long before cotton candy was all over him and the sugar rush was in full effect. He had discovered that his fears for the strange food were completely unjustified. Our fears of having a product guarantee that is too bold are unjustified as well. We fear that if we promise too much, we’ll be taken advantage of. So we play it safe. Our product guarantee becomes generic and forgettable. Are you building an API? If you are, chances are you’ll want it to have: RESTful endpoints security and authentication JSON responses with HTTP status codes Laravel offers all of this out of the box. It also has excellent documentation and an active community offering tips and writing articles like this one. This is why I keep coming back to Laravel time and again. In this article I’m going to walk you through the steps required to build a REST API with Laravel. I’m going to start right at the beginning — creating a Laravel project — and will cover everything needed to build a functioning API. I’ll also cover related issues such as how to structure your endpoints and what form your responses should take. I’m assuming you already have a webserver, PHP and a database up and running. Let’s dive in. Install and configure Laravel Install Composer Composer is a tool for dependency management in PHP. Don’t worry about exactly what that means. The bottom line is that it’s the simplest way to create a Laravel project. There are instructions for installing Composer . You can read the instructions but you don’t really need to. Just punch this address into a browser: here https://getcomposer.org/installer and save the file to the parent directory of which your Laravel project directory will be a child. For example, if you have a directory which will contain your Laravel project directory, you should save in the directory. installer Sites installer Sites Then, on the command line, navigate to the directory and run the installer like this: Sites php installer You’ll now see another file in the directory: . Firstly, it does not require authentication, meaning it is accessible to the whole world. Secondly, any programming logic required to return results must go in the routing file , which is not the best place for it. You can read about middleware . Essentially it is code that runs “in the middle” — between receipt of an incoming request and your own code attached to the route. The API authentication middleware checks that an incoming API request is authenticated, which requires: here CSRF is an acronym for “cross-site request forgery”. It’s an exploit involving data being sent to the server from an unexpected source. Including a CSRF token in all requests coming from a webpage is a way to avoid CSRF attacks. CSRF token: When a user logs in, Laravel sets a session cookie to identify and authentic the user. The cookie is automatically attached by the browser to outgoing requests. Laravel session cookie: To include a CSRF token in the page, go back in to and add the following anywhere inside the HEAD section: restpi/resources/views/layouts/app.blade.php <meta name="csrf-token" content="{{csrf_token()}}"> is a Laravel function that, you guessed it… generates a CSRF token. This adds complexity and requires programming logic, which should be handled in a Controller rather than in the routing file. Let’s fix this now. Does the company give its financial/growth predictions / predictions for profit and growth? How much trading volume is occurring with the coin at the moment and what did the volume look like in the past? How volatile is the coin? What is the maximum weekly, monthly, annual growth? What is their coin emission rate? Is the coin’s inflation under control? In the case of Ethereum, you can check its Investment tab for answers to some of the questions above. Another thing you will notice is the sidebar, available on all the pages. It gives you access to quick stats about a cryptocurrency’s price, volatility, market cap, percentage of total market and a lot of other useful information. Look over their costs and investment plans A company looking for investments, no matter the industry it’s in, should be as transparent as possible. Would you trust a person coming to you and asking for money saying just “Trust me, it is going to work out and you’ll be a trillionaire in no time?”. Most likely you wouldn’t and shouldn’t. The same goes for cryptocurrencies. Take a look at their website and see if they have a well defined split of their costs and their future investment plans. Do they invest in marketing more than in development? Get out of there as soon and as fast as possible and forget about it. Watch out for “pump and dumps” It is quite common for cryptocurrencies to fall victim to “pump and dumps” due to two very important aspects: the speed at which the orders are being processed the fact that the crypto market is not yet regulated and trades 24/7 What is a “pump and dump”? A “pump and dump” is the movement of a coin’s price, when it gets pushed up rapidly or constantly and then down very fast. These are influenced either by the cryptocurrency’s team or deep pocket investors that want to cash in profits fast and even by organized groups of people. There is proof of groups of up to 17,000 people on Telegram, chasing “pump and dumps” in order to get profits. Here are a few reasons to keep an eye on pump and dumps: To avoid panicking and selling a coin being dumped that has historically performed well. Avoid panicking and buying a coin that is currently being pumped that has historically not performed well. To jump on a pumped coin early and to sell quickly (to make a quick profit). Or jump off a coin being dumped to take profits or cut losses. Researching this will help you answer questions like: Are they trending on social networks? — This is very important for attracting a large volume of transactions (you can use to research social trends and sentiment and compare it to the price of a coin) solume.io Are there any huge negative reviews online about the coin? Are they sharing thoughts on their development often enough? Does the team interact with people on Social Media? What is their total community size? (Facebook + Telegram + Twitter etc.) What is their total GitHub community size? What is the trend in online searches for the coin? (Check to see the trend in searches) Google Trends If you already researched the coins fundamentals and economics and everything looks strong, saw that the technology behind it offers unique features that are also applicable in multiple domains, it’s time to see how many people actually know about it. Without knowing anything about the solution the technology offers, how can that solution be applied to solve problems? That’s where marketing comes in and helps with informing the market about the solution. Branding You should also check the coin’s branding and approach they have on it. Check out and see if there were any re-brandings done, because they aren’t uncommon in the crypto space as coins go through different stages in their development and market adoption. Watch out for frequent re-brandings because these can mean one of two things. Either the coin is changing its strategy or it’s trying to hide something. Frequent re-brandings throughout a cryptocurrency’s life are not a positive point for its future strategic decisions. Another thing you should look out for is the media coverage the coin is getting and the conversations around subjects related to its brand and technology. Seeing Forbes, Wall Street Journal or Bloomberg giving good signals about a coin’s strength, growth and team means that there is mainstream interest for it. Coin market cap or the total value of a cryptocurrency is also a form of social proof. The total value of a coin is the result of investors voting with their wallets for the coin or against it. Social Media Checking the coin’s social stats is another indicator about their abilities to grow a community and reach even more people. A very good number to look out for, besides each social channel and forum in particular, is its total community size. On , you can see this in the Analysis tab for each of the coins. Just go to the Brand awareness/Buzz section and see the total community size.
