Shilika: Reminiscing about your blockchain journey, how did working on something exciting as Islander? Viet: Having spent almost half a decade as a community builder, I was first inspired by Blockchain technology a few years ago. I was then already working very hard to build our Spiderum to be the Medium of Vietnam as it is today. Moving forward, I jumped into the Crypto World and have been a retail investor and entrepreneur in this world since then. As I mentioned briefly earlier, while working on Spiderum, I could really understand the pain point of a community builder. Though Spiderum is one of the biggest online publishing platforms in Vietnam, when launching a product, I still find it quite hard to leverage the full potential of community engagement to achieve our goals. It was important for us (Myself and My Co-Founder Nga Levi) to reassess our subsequent steps to solve this puzzle. It was during this time, I started actively participating in the Blockchain space and saw the huge potentiality of this technology that would help us overcome the challenges Spiderum was facing. As the dots connected, I envisioned an Island-Verse where every player, from crypto projects, and influencers to individuals, can connect, exchange values, and gain benefits in a gamified economy would be an amazing future. Users can reclaim land, own and trade NFTs, build communities, and earn crypto rewards by playing and contributing to the development of the Island-Verse. Shilika: Despite there being abundant projects in the crypto space at the moment, what are some of the key aspects that stand out in Islander? Viet: I believe Islander offers a solution to old-fashioned marketing techniques. Traditionally, crypto projects attract their supporters through digital marketing activities such as SEO, SEM, and advertising. This whole process of getting users on board, getting them to understand the project, waiting for their feedback, and letting them take the first action is often long and cumbersome. Islander found a way to make it easier for all parties involved with the use of gamification. In Islander’s words, the crypto world can be seen as thousands and thousands of separated islands, with each island representing a standalone crypto project and the project owners taking on the role of “Island Lords”. Whether a crypto project is successful or not depends on how many supporters it can get and how frequently its product and token are used. In Islander, we call these crypto adopters “Residents”. Sometimes the residents will find their own way to get to the island, sometimes they will need a boat. And the Boat owner here represents an influencer in the real world. With Islander’s toolkit,  crypto projects, influencers, and content creators will be able to communicate their marketing efforts in a fun and interactive way. Monetization will be robust and immediate. Users will benefit greatly just by participating in different activities aka “quests”. In short, we utilize the innovative learn-to-earn & NFT-powered affiliate model to empower a new economy and build an Island-verse for web 3.0 content & marketing. Shilika: With different metaverses incepting in this booming space, what is the biggest difference between the Play-to-Earn model used by many other platforms and the Learn-to-Earn model developed by Islander? Viet: The biggest difference between Play-to-Earn and Learn-to-Earn is, that the former focuses on entertainment and some financial benefits as by-products, while the latter emphasizes knowledge transfer with financial benefits. However, Islander’s approach to knowledge transfer is not through textbooks and exams but gamification. For example, on Islander, Crypto Projects can create quests (a prominent element we take from video games) with unique narrations and rewards to engage with their supporters. We also have ranking and leaderboards to promote the most active projects, influencers and content creators on our platform. Shilika: What can the users expect from Islander in the near future? Viet: We will focus on solving the gas fees problem, launching NFTs and their use cases on Islander. After that, multichain will be definitely what you can expect from Islander. In terms of measurement, we choose Total Distributed Value as one of our most important indicators. With that in mind, more potential projects with high-budget deals will be our approach to both support projects and investors/communities. Dexalot receives $7 million to build trading infrastructure Dexalot has received $7 million in funding to build the Avalanche network. The funding round was led by Avalanche’s Blizzard Fund with involvement from various Avalanche ecosystem actors and decentralized finance investors. The protocol aims to create a decentralized order book exchange based on Avalanche that allows users to trade any asset with cheap costs, no slippage, and quick price discovery. Avalanche ecosystem contributors comprised of Colony, AVentures, Avalaunch, Avascan, Benqi, and Blizzard. Further, Maven Capital, GSR, Muhabbit Capital, Republic Capital, Woodstock Capital, and IPC are among the new investors. CEO of Dexalot, Nihat Gurman, said: Dexalot wants to create a truly transparent, community-owned crypto exchange where users can trade assets at the capital efficiency of central exchanges with the same or better user experience. The protocol is an EVM-compatible Central Limit Order Book (CLOB) exchange that runs on the Avalanche C-Chain. It tries to fill in the gaps in Avalanche DEXs, which are currently exclusively AMM-based. Which of the two Decentralized Exchange is Better: Order Book or AMM? As the name implies, an order book records all buy/sell orders for a specific cryptocurrency. A bid is a name for a buy order, whereas an ask is a name for a sell order. The order book keeps track of how many tokens are being solicited or bid at a given price point. The order book organizes the traders’ orders under the price associated with them when they place them. Thus, any DEX dealer may trade the asset as long as supply and demand exist. Depending on the order book, a CEX has generated automatically when a Binance clone script is used to create an exchange. The order book is replaced by a liquidity pool in an AMM or Automated Market Maker-based DEX. The liquidity pool is essentially pre-funded by participants known as liquidity providers or LPs. Each AMM-based DEX has a different manner of rewarding LPs. The LPs essentially take on the role of market makers. Uniswap pioneered the idea of AMM, in which the current liquidity of the trading pair is properly considered using an algorithm. This makes it possible to supply traders with a real-time quote. Daily Coding Problem Hello everyone and welcome back with another problem to solve! Today we’ll be dealing with paths, calculating the greatest path in a triangle of numbers starting from the top to the bottom! Today’s problem comes from the archives of : a super cool website to look at if you are in the mood for some head scratching! There are more than 800 math and coding problems to solve and a vast archive of discussions about them. It is the perfect tool to train your math skills and learn something new. Go check it out and try to solve your challenges too! ProjectEuler.net Let’s jump to the action! The problem By starting at the top of the triangle below and moving to adjacent numbers on the row below, the maximum total from top to bottom is 23. That is,3+7+4+9=23. Find the maximum total from top to bottom of the triangle below: As there are only 16384 routes, it is possible to solve this problem by trying every route. However, , is the same challenge with a triangle containing one hundred rows; it cannot be solved by brute force, and requires a clever method! ;o) NOTE: Problem 67 So, to recap a bit: we are given a triangle with numbers. Each number is connected to the two directly below it, . What we need to do is go from top to bottom and find the maximum possible path value. The sum of its values will be our answer. Also, as the problem states, since the routes are limited, we could try the solution out from calculating every possible route. As we’ll see just in a moment, , so we should scrap our heads a bit and find a better solution. forming a path directly to solve it by brute-forcing that would not be an efficient solution Ready then? Let’s solve it! Brute forcing the solution Since the problem advises that the brute force solution is not an efficient one, let’s take a moment to understand why is by looking at some smaller triangles. To know which path is the most valuable one, we first need to . It would be nice to know how many of them there are in the first place. walk over all the possible paths So, let’s try to count them: When there is one row (just one element) we have only one possible path. With two rows there are two possible paths we can take, with three rows there are 4 paths, and so on. Hopefully, you can see what’s happening here: : so for instance, with 4 rows we have 2³ = 8. In the problem’s example, the triangles have 15 rows so we count 2¹⁴ possible paths, which are 16384 possible routes, just as the problem states. the number of paths grows like 2ⁿ⁻¹ Given this, to calculate the maximum path by brute force, we would need to calculate the value of all the 16384 routes and then compare them. Besides the hassle of calculating all those possible paths, for the next similar problem mentioned by the text, which has 100 lines, we are going to have 2⁹⁹ possible paths, meaning roughly a total of 63.382.530.010.000.000.000.000.000.000 possible routes: inconvenient to say the least. Finally, , which is one of the worst results we could hope for. brute forcing the solution would force us with an algorithm with a time complexity of O(2ⁿ) We need a better method. The better method As we saw, the main problem in brute-forcing the solution is that there are so too many steps that our algorithm should do to calculate them all. . Since the number of routes depends on the number of elements in the triangle, we have no control over that variable. way too many possible routes, A better solution should involve either fewer routes or fewer steps to calculate them So, s needed for the algorithm to complete. What if we could calculate the maximum path possible of every given triangle … with just one step? our only chance is to reduce the number of step Let’s take a triangle and reason about it. This is the triangle from the sample given by the problem, for which we already know that the maximum path is 23 (the one in red), or 3 + 7 +4 + 9. This is our first hint: This means that we could track the growing value of each path while we go down the triangle and choose the maximum at the end. We can do this by . we don’t need intermediate values, we just want the sum of them. updating intermediate numbers with their actual path value As you can see we can apply this process row by row, updating all the values until, in the last row, we obtain the exact solution: 23. This is why I called it the avalanche algorithm: ! it’s like a snowball rolling down the mountain, which takes the route with the most snow on it and collects it to grow and grow again We have a problem though: for certain values inside the triangle we obtain multiple values. Take the middle 4, for example, the one in the third line of the first graph. If we come to the 4 from the 10 we are going to get 14 as a result, but if we come from the 7 we are going to obtain 11. If we think about it though, 10 and 7 in the second row are already “path values” updated from the previous row, since we’ve done 3+7=10 and 3+4=7 to get them. This means that the path coming from the 10 has already a higher value than the one coming from the 7 and, since we jump on the 4 only from those two values and from 4 we can only go to 5 and 9, we can conclude that the 10 path has an higher value than the 7 one, at least up to that point, and then we will always choose the route coming from the 10. It’s much clearer if you look it like this: Since we are coming only from 10 and 5, no matter if we are going to 5 or 9, we will always choose the path that already has a value of 10 because it’s higher than the one with a value of 7. This is our second hint: We could also store it, as we’ll do if we want to take the inverse road and print out the final path. besides adding the “path value” row by row and number by number, for each number we can choose the highest previous path value and move on. Each element in the triangle will have two values then: its real value and an “updated value” to keep track of the path value up to that point. OK: we have everything we need to start coding then. Let’s jump to the code! The code As with every good coder out there, I learned during the years to innately hate . Given this though, I feel like that for this project a solid OOP language was needed, to wrap everything up in a clear form. Go, even if is by far my first choice on almost every project, was not that suitable for this kind of task: its lack of a proper class object would have been a pain to deal with. Python is similar, since it has classes but it becomes messy to work with them after a while, in my opinion at least. , which is sold as Java 2.0: much less boilerplate but the same code potential for its interoperability with Java code. In that block, we loop over the two parents (the loop there it’s a bit useless since there always are two parents, but it’s useful to show the idea behind it) and we update the with the found. Rarely (if ever) used in crypto, it is time to apply this timeless method of evaluation to the digital asset space. Today, ( ) the ultra-scalable, interoperable, EVM-compatible, layer zero blockchain network will get a SWOT. Avalanche AVAX , 💪Strengths (Internal) (Helpful) Subnet System Interoperability was, is, and will be a fundamentally important aspect of technological innovation. Avalanche utilizes an interchain architecture using subnets. Subnets are individual blockchains launched for their own purposes, by their own communities. The ability to deploy chain on-demand is attractive to new entrants to the marketplace with its modularity and flexibility around dictating the operational specification (finality, transaction throughput, consensus model, etc.). By abstracting away the immense infrastructural necessitations for building blockchains from scratch, Avalanche becomes capable of attracting enormous amounts of economic value. When adding customization to the interoperability and tieing it together with security and scalability, Avalanche seems like a perfect solution for many startups. Triple-Stack Architecture Avalanche is actually a single system that is composed of three different underlying blockchains. The project initially set out to solve the single biggest technological problem in the industry called the "Blockchain Trilemma". To do this, they developed an architecture that splits the computational logic into three distinct components with each form of logic getting its own dedicated blockchain; X-chain, C-chain, and P-chain. The X Chain stands for exchange chain and is explicitly designed to handle trade-related functionality. C-Chain stands for contract chain and is designed to deal with decentralized applications. P-chain is the platform chain that deals with the coordination and management of nodes and subnets. Growth in crypto-stablecoin (Btc.b) Bitcoin being the reserve asset of the industry, nearly all advanced protocols are always building up their treasuries or actively pursuing the injection of BTC into its on-chain ecosystem via wrapped assets. Avalanche is among the few leading projects that have been able to attract Bitcoin into its ecology via the BTC.B protocol (Bridged Bitcoin). Despite the presence of tumultuous macro market conditions, the amount of BTC.B reserves has actually been growing. Interest of this type shows strong levels of confidence in the security of the technology. Business Development is Excellent The core team of Avalanche is not just technically gifted, they are keenly aware of foundational socio-economic principles underlying successful implementation and express this through their devotion to Business Development. Avalanche Consensus Another technical element that makes Avalanche stand out is its own distributed consensus mechanism called Snowman. The genius of its design is found in how neatly it extrapolated the most desirable properties for distributed systems by combining the highly secure, decentralized, leaderless Nakamoto consensus with a novel stake-based DAG (directed acyclic graph) consensus transaction model. Most notable about its consensus model's security is the claim that it is resilient against the strongest network attack that even Bitcoin cannot protect against, the 51% attack. Considering such lofty security guarantees are coupled with its throughput of 6,500 tps and sub-second blocktime, the technology is almost too good to be true… But it works! Thorough Documentation So many projects, especially from the newer generations, lack providing the intellectual infrastructure of well-made documentation. Few projects go the extra mile to cement their thought leadership in this domain; Avalanche is the absolute hallmark of excellence when it comes to this. They have a breadth of organized, orderly, easily accessible, documentation (in the form of blogs, whitepapers, developer guides, and other resources) that succinctly describes every individual element of their thinking. When comparing documentation repositories of the top 100 projects on CoinMarketCap, AVAX easily belongs in the top 5. 😞 Weaknesses (Internal) (Harmful) Loose AVAX Tokenomics Despite the brilliant architecture, Avalanche's ecosystem is not hard tied to the token. Being able to capture the delta of value from different networks for their individual and cross-chain needs seems like an obvious win. However, the current tokenomic design does not require subnets to pay for their activities in AVAX; they actually allow subnets to specify which token they want to use (and many opt for their own). Low Circulating AVAX Supply Being a tier-one project, it is interesting to find two shortcomings that are related to the token of the project. One thing about AVAX that stands out is its low circulating supply. Marked at ~48% as of this writing, the circulating supply of AVAX is the lowest among the top 40. This could be due to imperfections in the accounting methodologies, but in any case, having a sub-50% circulating supply (especially for a project that is ~3 years old) does result in potentially undesirable price suppression and excessive volatility. 🧐 Opportunities (External) (Helpful) Major Protocol Integrations Many of the industries leading projects including, UniSwap, OpenSea, LayerZero, Balancer, Tokeny, UnoFarm, and The Graph, among others, have expressed support for the Avalanche ecosystem. Considering that AVAX is already home to a few tier-one protocols (AAVE and TraderJoe) the influx of interest from other prominent protocols will lead to a positive feedback loop for on-chain TVL with interchain, interasset composability. Attracting a new generation of GameFI Defi Kingdoms is considered to be one of (if not the) most successful blockchain-based games thus far. Their experimentations have led to results so positive that some of the most powerful gaming entities becoming attracted to launching their own subnets for their gaming communities. Team SoloMid (TSM), one of the gaming industry's more recognizable esports organizations will be launching their Blitz Subnet and using AVAX as their gas token. GREE, a Japanese gaming and media conglomerate has joined the ecosystem. LOCO, an Indian Streaming platform has signed on and also agreed to deploy its own dedicated subnet. In addition to all of the incoming participants, Avalanche has been putting in substantial efforts in hosting metaverse gaming events by attending/sponsoring gaming expos. Partnerships with Dominant Web 2 Giants Amazon Web Services (AWS) partnership program to promote the adoption of blockchain technology and one-click AVAX node deployment. Relationships with Web 2 technology companies of this caliber hint at broader adoption and potential for building new partnerships with greater ease moving forward. 😳 Threats (External) (Harmful) On-Chain Metrics are stale Key data points that leading base layer blockchain projects use to distinguish themselves and establish prominence such as the amount of active verified smart contracts, active developer count, active addresses, and transaction volume are surprisingly laggy and have not had the same rate of change in the positive direction as other networks of similar level. Takeaway: Avalanche is a technological powerhouse. The level of innovation happening at the base layer protocol and the unique angle that the project has taken, positions it to outgrow many of its potential competitors. While the lackluster tokenomics and on-chain metrics may present themselves as unfavorable, once they are addressed, nothing is stopping AVAX from setting industry-breaking records. I rarely regard documentation as a metric for gauging a project's health, (this should just be a given), but in my opinion, Avalanche strikes the perfect balance of informational provision. Conclusion: This SWOT most likely has been skewed by my bias. I do hold some AVAX and believe in the project. Fundamentally, Avalanche might just be the only solution on the market that might be able to solve the blockchain trilemma; if this happens, then the project will be inducted into the technological hall of fame and leave its mark on the industry for eternity. Although Ethereum has firmly established itself as the leading blockchain platform capable of running smart contracts, it isn’t without its defects. It has solved some of its problems, such as enormous energy consumption by switching to a proof-of-stake consensus protocol. However, scaling issues continue to exist. Ethereum has a low transaction throughput (approximately 15 transactions per second), slow transaction finality (around 1 minute), and at times high gas fees when the network is under strain. Avalanche is an independent blockchain platform designed to overcome some of the barriers to scalability mentioned above. In this article, we will explore what Avalanche is and its benefits compared to other blockchain platforms. We will also create an ERC-20 smart contract on Avalanche from scratch using Infura. What Is Avalanche? According to its website, Avalanche is the fastest smart contracts platform in the blockchain industry, as measured by time-to-finality. Unlike Ethereum or Bitcoin, Avalanche consists of several chains, each performing a specific task. The Avalanche network's three most important chains are the C-Chain, the X-Chain, and the P-Chain. The C-Chain is an EVM-compatible blockchain capable of running smart contracts. The X-Chain is responsible for token transactions. And finally, the P-Chain maintains consensus among subnets, arguably the most critical component of Avalanche. Through , Avalanche allows anyone to spin up their own instance of a blockchain within the ecosystem. Additionally, users can customize these blockchains to suit their own needs. These custom blockchains can use different consensus protocols (proof-of-work or proof-of-stake) and offer over 4,500 transactions per second without putting any additional strain on the rest of the network. Each one is a sovereign network that defines its own rules. subnets Subnets are one of the most unique features Avalanche offers. Not only can anyone build their own custom blockchain network as a subnet, each one is completely interoperable with the rest of the Avalanche network. This makes subnets a powerful tool for creating custom solutions, while still being part of a broader network. Benefits of Using Avalanche Through the usage of subnets and novel consensus protocols, Avalanche can provide the following benefits: Since there is no upper cap on the number of subnets that can be created, and subnets operate fairly independently, Avalanche can offer extraordinarily high tps rates. Theoretically Infinite Transactions Per Second Avalanche has the lowest time-to-finality in the industry, with transaction confirmation in under two seconds. Low Transaction Finality Avalanche uses proof-of-stake to secure its network, which makes it extremely energy efficient. It also allows validators without access to high-end GPUs to participate. Energy Efficient Over thousands of validators secure Avalanche. And unlike Ethereum or Bitcoin, a small number of pools do not control the vast majority of the network. Extremely Decentralized Creating an ERC-20 Token with Avalanche As mentioned earlier, the Avalanche C-Chain is entirely EVM-compatible. Securitize Launches Tokenized Fund on Avalanche, Unblocking Broader Access to Alternative Investment

Scaling Through Subnets Subnets, or subnetworks, by definition, are networks inside of a network that help a network scale. In the blockchain sense, the concept of subnets is similar in that they’re almost special blockchains that operate within a blockchain ecosystem. Subnets spawned from the issue of blockchain scalability. For example, there are two ways to scale a blockchain without sacrificing decentralization — vertical scaling (fast transaction processing) and horizontal scaling (replicating the number of blockchains you have and processing them in parallel). However, depending on the blockchain, there are limitations to scaling vertically. Therefore, many chains such as Ethereum view horizontal scaling through sharding as a solution. For example, to break up the chain into smaller chains that replicate the entire Ethereum state. As a way to do scaling in its own right, the Avalanche blockchain created subnets, which allow developers to launch their own blockchains, instead of forcing all transactions to take place on a single shared state. This creates more block space and computation to meet demand. Interestingly, and not widely reported on, Avalanche was not the first layer 1 to use subnets. In fact, the Internet Computer was the earliest major blockchain to implement subnets into its architecture. So how are Avalanche’s subnets different from the Internet Computer’s? And who has the ‘best’ subnets for developers to use? An In-Depth Look Into Avalanche Subnets Avalanche is an EVM-compatible blockchain that has three chains in its primary network — the Contract Chain (C-Chain), Platform Chain (P-Chain), and Exchange Chain (X-Chain). The C-Chain is smart contracts, the P-Chain is for coordinating validators, subnets, and the Snowman consensus protocol, and the X-Chain is for trading and transacting digital assets. Because of limited block space and demand for Avalanche, the C-Chain became congested, therefore, the P-Chain’s use of subnets is a solution to the scalability problem. For Avalanche, subnets are a type of Blockchain-as-a-Service function that projects, businesses, and individuals can use to run their blockchain-based applications, whether they be games like DeFi Kingdom or Crabada, or enterprise-specific applications. Subnets have an advantage in that they’re a sovereign network that defines its own rules regarding membership and even tokens and tokenomics. For example, you can spin up an application and create a token, and not be required to use AVAX or USDC. Another benefit is that they allow the network to scale up easily while enabling lower latency, higher TPS, and lower transaction costs — thus, making it an attractive option for developers. However, Avalanche subnets have a few downsides such as interoperability with other subnets, validator costs, back-end centralization, bootstrapping, decentralization, and security. How Does The Internet Computer Employ Subnets? A subnet is a special kind of blockchain within the Internet Computer network that can seamlessly integrate with other blockchains to increase capacity. This is their main purpose i.e., to increase the scalability and capacity of the network (similar to a network effect). For example, the more subnets there are, the more activity the network is seeing. Therefore, when there are more subnets being created, it means the network is strong. There are currently live on the Internet Computer. 35 subnets Subnet Tech-stack Each subnet is a blockchain that consists of some number of decentralized, independently owned, and controlled machines (nodes) that run the software components of the Internet Computer blockchain protocol. However, subnets don’t just magically appear, in fact, the Network Nervous System (the governance mechanism) combines nodes from the independent data centers to create subnets, which are then used to host canister smart contracts. Each subnet runs its own blockchain, and canisters run on-chain in such a way that they can transparently call canisters on other subnets/chains. In summary, the Internet Computer uses subnets to allow the network to scale indefinitely. This is because the problem with traditional blockchains (and individual subnets) is that they’re limited by the computing power of a single node machine because every node has to run everything that happens on the blockchain to participate in the consensus algorithm (think AVAX validators). Therefore, running multiple independent subnets in parallel allows the Internet Computer to break through this single-machine barrier.
