AdRunner, a metaverse advertising platform has minted 10,000 NFT's as part of their plans to create a decentralized, user owned, digital advertising ecosystem. The advertising platform is building out a metaverse where advertisers can broadcast themselves through user operated billboard spaces. The 10,000 NFT's that were minted will be sold to it's community, giving them governance over how the AdRunner metaverse is run. What Is AdRunner? is an Ethereum based, advertising platform that aims to decentralize digital market via the Metaverse. AdRunner The platform is using Web3 technology and decentralized applications on Ethereum to create the infrastructure that will allow advertisers to market themselves throughout the Metaverse. This new, decentralized advertising ecosystem will include digitally controlled, electronic billboards, regular billboards, posters and remote controlled "AdBoxes". This will provide an opportunity for meta real estate owners to lease their digital spaces, landscapes and 3D projected worlds through the AdRunner platform. As part of this approach, AdRunner have minted 10,000 NFT's that will go on sale later in 2022. These NFT's will grant voting rights to holders and allow them to earn passive income from the advertising fees generated in the metaverse. Advertisers will pay for advertising space using AdRunners native token $ADR, which will distributed to NFT owners on the platform. AdRunner's goal is to create the largest advertising platform within the metaverse, whilst empowering it's users to generate an income through the leasing of their digital properties. The Digital Advertising Market Is Growing Digital advertising is an industry worth around $350 billion and it's to over $786 billion by 2026. expected to grow Whilst these numbers might make it look like there's a lot of opportunities for advertising companies in the market, the reality is actually quite bleak. How The Metaverse Advertising Platform Works Digital real estate owners are able run advertisements through virtual billboards, paid for using AdRunner's native $ADR cryptocurrency. The whole process works as part of their AdBox framework which allows advertisers to broadcast themselves throughout the metaverse. Here's how the process works: Companies wishing to advertise in the metaverse place their ads through the platform in exchange for ADR Tokens. Meta-estate-owners offer their surfaces for AdBoxplacement in exchange for ADR Tokens. AdRunner NFT holders receive ADR Tokens in exchange for staking their NFTs. As part of the community building process, AdRunner is also creating a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). The DAO will be owned by the community and all decisions, including which advertisers to use work with, will be decided by its NFT holders. NFT Holders Earn Passive Income Via Staking Revenue generated by advertisers on the meta-advertising platform will be distributed to the community in the form of AdRunner's $ADR token. Members will be able to access this revenue by staking their AdRunner NFT's. 45% of all ADR earnings will be reserved for meta-estate owners and building the meta-advertising platform. The remaining 55% will be distributed to NFT holders and the community will be able to decide on the ratio once the DAO tools are integrated. The ADR Token, NFT's and Digital Real Estate As the platform continues to grow and advertisers acquire ADR tokens (needed to pay for advertising), this will increase the demand for ADR. This could increase the value of the ADR token and AdRunner NFT's (which receive ADR tokens when staked). During the early stages of the project, AdRunner will acquire land plots in their metaverse to showcase their AdBoxes. This will allow users to benefit from the appreciation of digital real estate prices as the platform grows. NFT Holders Can Generate Additional NFT's Via Breeding There will only ever be two generations of AdRunner NFT's, the original NFT's and the Gen Z versions. When an NFT holder stakes two AdRunner NFT's, they will breed a new AdRunner Gen Z NFT. Whilst there are 10,000 AdRunner NFT's, there will only be 5,000 AdRunner Gen Z NFT's. NFT Holders Can Share Their Ideas Through AdBoxes NFT holders will get access to non-commercial screen time on random AdBoxes throughout the metaverse. This feature allows holders to spread their ideas and let other users know what they stand for. #FoundersConnect: Interview with Onyeka Akumah, CEO Farmcrowdy & Co-founder CrowdyVest, PlentyWaka

As Chief Technologist for Avant Research Group in Buffalo, New York, and formerly as a professor at the University of Buffalo, Arun Vishnawath has spent his professional and academic career studying  the “people problem” of cybersecurity. His current research focuses on improving individual, organizational, and national resilience to cyber attacks by focusing on the weakest links in cybersecurity — Internet users. He has written and published over two-dozen articles on technology users and cyber security issues and his research has been presented to principals at national security and law enforcement agencies around the world. His research has also been featured on CNN, USA Today, Bloomberg Business Week, Consumer Reports and hundreds of other national and international news outlets. In a recent interview, I had the chance to sit down with to discuss recent trends that impact cybersecurity, where some of the vulnerabilities are, and how businesses can take proactive steps to mitigate these risks. Dr. Vishwanath How has the shift to remote working and remote learning impacted cybersecurity? It has made us more vulnerable for a whole lot of reasons. There are several challenges for a remote workforce, including the availability and reliability of high-speed internet; remote work on legacy software and systems; data protection regulations and compliance; and cybersecurity risks. I discussed many of these challenges and possible solutions in a recent article for . IPSwitch How has the movement to cloud-based storage and computing services affect cybersecurity? I talked about this at the in the Regan building. Cloud computing, at least as it is presently implemented, increases the surface area of vulnerability. Among the reasons for it: we are sharing more links that routinize the sharing of links; the current storage services have very poorly designed interfaces, making it easy to mimic (as in spoof) them and hard to detect issues in them; we depend on browsers for access, and browser are notoriously easy to infect and attack because they are also used to do many–arguably most–online activity; and finally, more files and information are stored in the external cloud service’s or platform’s servers, so we have to depend on some unknown entity for our data’s protection and integrity. Digital Government Institute’s (DGI) conference When using the cloud, files can be hacked even if our devices are secure, if your browser is hacked, or worse yet, the service providing the cloud storage platform is hacked. I have written about this in a number of different forums, most recently on an article in , where I have also presented a number of solutions. Medium How will AI impact the IT security space in the future? I have been interested in the impact of AI on information technology for a long time. The disruptive potential of new technology on employment is a subject I wrote about at length in articles for CNN in and . Andrew Yang borrowed many of my ideas during his candidacy for the Democratic Presidential nomination in an editorial he wrote for the New York Times, recognizing the potential impact of AI on America’s workforce. January February 2018 What is the biggest mistake you see businesses make that can make them vulnerable to information security risks? I think it is thinking they understand their users. Consequently, policies are created, practices put into place, and technologies implemented that take little account of what users want, how they think, and what they do. It needs to be People first, then Policy, then Technology. In the past, it used to be policy that dictated what people did; today, it is increasingly technology that dictates. Some of this is implicit–for example, everyone has to use PowerPoint and create slide decks and bullet points. From the Pentagon to academia, too often, the move is to create compelling presentations that have many talking points, with technology driving towards even less content and just quick takeaways (as in Tweets and short lightning talks). Such moves are attempts to accommodate short attention spans and rise above all the other noise, but it replaced content and nuance with images that appeal to the audience’s emotion and short talking points. New technologies such as AI is further exacerbating this move towards using technology not just for presenting ideas but for coming up with decisions about them. Much of this appears to be objective or efficient at first glance, but in reality, these technology-driven decisions often obscure, even make it easier to argue away bias and poor decision making by blaming the technology for it. We have already seen this in the use of AI for legal/judicial decision-making and job or hiring decisions where such AI-based algorithmic decision-making appears to either replicate human bias or, in some cases, heighten it. Technology is never going to be a panacea against biases in human decision-making processes, nor will it ever replace humans. Nor do we want it to — because what humans can do, as in think outside the box, technology can only be programmed to do that after a human thinks about it or actually does it. Take the 2009 incident where "Sully" Sullenberger landed the US Airways airplane in the Hudson river saving 155 lives. No AI program in 2009 would have done this before this incident; no program would likely even do it now because this one incident data point against millions of other flights would likely be seen as an error by AI algorithms and discarded. Thus, we need people because of how they can think, and we, therefore, must prioritize them. The prioritization of people must be first, followed by policy, and then technology. We need to think of people in the organization as a source of potential innovation and efficiency, and use computing technology to achieve it. What recommendations do you have for businesses to help protect against cybersecurity-related risks? There are many, but among the most pivotal is to develop policies that are aligned with their assets — their users. Begin by assessing the cyber risk among your users. This is more than just blindly training using phishing simulations or implementing technological security measures. Understand who is at risk, how, and why. Then go about developing programs, policies, practices, and perimeters around them. This is the only way to achieve cyber resilience. I think every organization must endeavor to assess user risk and then build defense based on the data. This is the evidence-based and need-based approach that medical science follows—and organizations today must do likewise. I have written and presented the methods for doing this at Blackhat in 2016 and again in . 2017 Your academic work at the University of Buffalo brought you international recognition as a technologist and futurist.  Why did you decide to leave and what are you doing now? I still live and work in Buffalo and love the city!  I was a tenured professor at the University at Buffalo (also called State University of New York at Buffalo) for close to two decades. I was beginning to advise Silicon Valley security companies such as . and government agencies and had started a security consultancy. Iconix Inc Around 2016, I was invited to be a Faculty Associate at Harvard University and this exposure made me reconsider how I could make a difference in the world of cybersecurity by influencing policy makers and security professionals. This progression led to my interest in serving as a technologist in the public interest and focusing on solving pressing problems in cybersecurity, rather than just identifying problems — which further enhanced the quality, value, and relevancy of my work. It also made me recognize the limitations of today’s academic research process. Academia has become highly reactive. Things in the real world are moving faster than today’s academic research cycles can support. An average research project in the social sciences takes anywhere from six months to a year to complete, between getting institutional and human subject approvals and actually getting the support, time, and help to do the study. Then comes the publication process, which in top journals can be anywhere from a few months to years. This is why many academics pick topics that appear old or at least are irrelevant by the time they are done. Adding to this, academics are still writing for other academics and most publications are behind paywalls that most readers cannot access. For such reasons, much of the core research that used to be done in universities are now done at Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. Being inside academia almost cuts you off from cutting-edge research. Furthermore, with little real-world insight, especially in cybersecurity, it is hard to sit in an office and say this is why security patches aren’t applied by people working in national security. To answer that or even be aware of it, you need real-world experience working, talking, and being there. Heute sprechen wir über Bitcoin UTXOs und welche Informationen wir daraus ziehen können. In diesem Zusammenhang gehen wir kurz auf das Bitcoin Halving und das Stock to Flow Verhältnis ein. Unter UTXO versteht man im Bitcoin Universum “Unspent Transaction Output”. Die Summe aller UTXO einer Bitcoin Adresse repräsentieren das jeweilige Guthaben. Das sogenannte UTXO-Set repräsentiert hingegen die Summe aller UTXOs. In diesem Set finden wir also den Status Quo über die aktuelle Anzahl an BTC im Netzwerk. Durch die Bitcoin UTXOs können wir also nicht nur sagen auf welcher Adresse sich wie viel Guthaben versteckt, sondern genau sagen, wie viele BTC für welchen Zeitraum nicht mehr bewegt wurden. Das hilft uns das Anlageverhalten der Investoren besser zu analysieren. Wie viele Bitcoins wurden mehr als ein Jahr nicht mehr bewegt? Um diese Frage zu beantworten, müssen wir den Bitcoin UTXO Age Distribution Chart zur Hilfe nehmen. In diesem Chart lassen sich alle UTXOs und deren jeweiliges Alter ablesen. Dadurch könne wir genau sagen wie viele Bitcoin für wie lange nicht mehr bewegt wurden. Für unser Beispiel wollen wir die Frage beantworten, wie viele Bitcoins länger als ein Jahr nicht mehr bewegt wurden. Hierzu gehen wir zurück auf den Interaktiven Chart (Link findest du unter dem Chart) und fahren mit der Maus nach rechts außen, um das aktuelle Alter und Anzahl der UTXOs zu sehen. Insgesamt wurden ca. 63% aller in Umlauf befindlichen Bitcoins mehr als ein Jahr nicht mehr bewegt. Das sind bei einer umlaufenden Menge von ca. 18.38 Millionen BTC umgerechnet ca. 11,5 Millionen BTC. Es wurden also knapp 2/3 aller Bitcoins länger als ein Jahr nicht mehr transferiert. Am 11.05.2020 wurde die BTC Geschichte um einen weiteren fundamentalen Einschnitt erweitert. Viele Bitcoiner haben diesem Tag schon seit mehreren Monaten und Jahren entgegengefiebert. Doch warum ist dieses regelmäßige Event so wichtig für das Bitcoin Ökosystem? Hierzu müssen wir erstmal verstehen wie überhaupt neue Bitcoins entstehen. Insgesamt kann es nicht mehr als 21 Millionen BTC geben — soweit, sogut. Aktuell befinden sich ca. 18,38 Millionen BTC bereits in Umlauf. Bedeutet also, dass noch weitere 2,62 Millionen BTC über die nächsten Jahr entstehen werden. Um genauer zu sein, wird die maximale Anzahl voraussichtlich im Jahr 2140 erreicht. Neue Bitcoins entstehen durch neue Blöcke. Miner investieren ihre Computerleistung, um auf die Suche nach neuen Blöcken zu gehen. Sobald ein valider Block gefunden wurde, bekommt der Miner eine Belohnung (Block Reward) in Form von BTC. Diese Belohnung wird mit jedem Halving halbiert. Vor dem letzten Halving sind ca. 1.800 neue BTC jeden Tag neu entstanden. Aktuell nur noch ca. 900 BTC pro Tag. In 4 Jahren reduziert sich diese Anzahl weiter auf 450 BTC usw. Das Halving reduziert also regelmäßig das Angebot an neuen Bitcoins. Dadurch wird Bitcoin noch knapper und seltener. BTC wird sozusagen mit jedem Halving “härter”. An dieser Stelle haben wir eine perfekte Überleitung zum Stock to Flow Verhältnis, womit die Härte eines Gutes bestimmt werden kann. Was ist das Stock to Flow Verhältnis? Das bestimmt die Härte eines Gutes. Je härter das Gut, desto besser eignet es sich als Wertaufbewahrungsmittel. Es wird schon seit vielen Jahren bei Edelmetallen angewandt, um die verschiedenen Härtegrade zu bestimmen und miteinander zu vergleichen. Stock to Flow Verhältnis Das Stock to Flow wird bestimmt indem die umlaufende Menge ( ) durch die jährliche Produktionsrate ( ) geteilt wird. Je höher der Quotient, desto härter ist das zugrundeliegende Gut. stock flow Das Stock to Flow Verhältnis von Bitcoin können wir demnach wie folgt bestimmen: Umlaufende Menge: ca. 18.360.000 BTC Jährliche Produktionsrate : 900 BTC * 365 Tage= 328.500 BTC Bitcoin Stock to Flow Verhältnis = 18.360.000 / 328.500 = 55,89 Zum Vergleich liegt das Stock to Flow Verhältnis von Silber bei ca. 25 und das von Gold bei ca. 62. Bitcoin ist also mehr als doppelt so hart wie Silber und fast so hart wie Gold. Beim nächsten Halving wird sich dieses Verhältnis mehr als verdoppelt und Gold eindeutig hinter sich lassen. Ab diesem Zeitpunkt wird Bitcoin das härteste Gut in der Menschheitsgeschichte. Die Vergangenheit hat gezeigt, dass der Mensch immer das härteste Gut wählt, um seine Werte aufzubewahren. Warum Bitcoin aktuell aus fundamentaler Sicht extrem bullish ist

Fintech startups have become undeniably attractive in the last few years, receiving a lot of attention from media outlets and VCs. I spoke with Immad Akhund, co-founder and CEO of , to understand the vision for his new company that aims to define the future of banking for startups. Mercury - What is Mercury? - Mercury is building a bank for tech companies. We offer business checking accounts, savings accounts, and a debit card. All features are available online, and we also support foreign founders. We are trying to build tools to help you run your business, so we have an API and are adding other analytical tools. - What made you start a bank? What experiences led you to that decision? - I've been running companies for thirteen years, and this is my first fintech startup. As an entrepreneur, I felt the pain of dealing with incumbent banks. I was very frustrated with the lack of basics like transparency in customer service, and also felt like they didn't launch any new tools to progress. Those are the main inspirations. I wanted to fix something for myself. I like entrepreneurs a lot, and I was excited about making something that would be helpful to others like myself. - Mercury has a good focus on startups. What makes Mercury startup-friendly? - In the traditional bank space, there's a tendency to skip out on a lot of features, so many banks give you a debit card, but they don't give you the wires and check deposits. We are working with startups, and many of our customers have raised more than 10 million dollars. These are serious companies, and they expect all of these features, so part one for Mercury is having completeness of features that founders want. Another part is how we think about fraud and compliance. If someone receives $5M in funding from a VC, that is very expected, whereas in the regular non-startup contract, receiving $5M will be reviewed with suspicion. When someone signs up, we look at the website to see if this is a legitimate company, and that helps us do our internal KYC. We are also building a lot of tools for startups. We have an API now. We've also launched a "Tea room," which is our premium tier, and we have a bunch of rewards associated with it. So we are thinking about startups every step of the way. - What's on the roadmap? What are the new features that you are planning to launch? - We launched the first API version last month. You can do a bunch of things – view transactions and balances, make ACH payments, etc. We are going to add new features over time. One of the things we are working on is adding and editing recipients for payments. Another prominent feature is user permissions — there's a lot of fairly fine-grained permissions that we are going to allow. And, obviously, the iOS app. Currently, Mercury is website-only, but a lot of our users are excited about the iOS app, so we are working on that. We have a busy schedule ahead of us. - Mercury works with BBVA Compass and Evolve Bank & Trust to store deposits, how did you go about the process of choosing the banks to partner with? - It's a long process. I met with sixty banks back in 2017 when we were starting out, and it was somewhat restricted because we were looking for banks that had complete features sets. Banks typically don't have all the features that we need. We were also trying to launch as quickly as possible. Things like economics were also important. Most banks only work with huge companies, and Mercury is a startup, so we can't necessarily pay as much money upfront. There are a lot of pieces when it comes to optimizing these bank deals, which we had to learn, but we're happy with the banks we've ended up with. - Can you tell me more about each feature that Mercury offers? Some of them (online check deposits, savings accounts) are pretty exciting. - The online onboarding process is super easy and only takes 10 minutes. You can add multiple team members and have multiple debit cards. You can also add multiple checking accounts if you need to. Savings accounts currently have an annual APY of 1.35%. We've spent a lot of time making it a great experience. There are some obvious things like Quickbooks, Xero, and Plaid integrations, so, hopefully, whatever you use for accounting will work with Mercury. We also let you search for your transactions and make that process as seamless as possible. Then, when it comes to receiving money, you can connect to a third-party bank and pull money from there. Or you can simply take a picture of the check and deposit it. We give our customers a routing number, which they can use whenever they want to send a wire. We also support ACH, which is a slightly slow and cheap payment rail. Domestic wire through Mercury costs $5. International wire transfers are supported by 54 countries right now, and you can send a wire for about $35. - How did you come up with an idea for the Tea room? What are the perks & benefits of being a tea room member? - It was my co-founder's idea. We didn't want to call it "platinum," "executive," or "gold member." We tried to make it a little more friendly. We give everyone the same interest rate, but soon we will provide tea room customers with a higher rate, so that's a significant benefit. We're also planning to send some custom packages with tea and few other bits of swag. It's just a 'thank you' to these customers. Tearoom members get credits and special offers from AWS, Google, Airtable, and a bunch of other companies. As a Tea Room, you get access to these sets of rewards, which are pretty good once you add them all up. Also, we may potentially have slightly higher fraud limits for Tea Room customers because we know them better. - Who was Mercury built for, and who are your actual users based on the data you have? - We built Mercury for seed-stage tech startups, and that's a significant part of our customers. But we are definitely open to everyone, and our clients also include consultancy businesses, eCommerce companies, and Amazon sellers. - What was the most surprising thing you've learned from/about the users? - There are a lot of surprising things. One of them is banking habits in general. People expect their bank to have a lot of different features – check deposits, international wires, an iOS app, etc. All of these things add up if you're trying to do a great job. Another somewhat surprising thing is that I didn't realize how excited people would be about Mercury and how many people we've had signing up. There's a general excitement for what we're building. - For some reason, it's very unusual to see business savings accounts offered by an online bank. Why did you decide to offer this? - One of our aims is to give everyone products that were only accessible to bigger companies. I think there's a tendency in banking to screw up smaller startups. I don't like that. I believe that smaller companies deserve better – better fees and better features. We had the opportunity to offer a savings account, and our customers liked it. We will continue to promote this approach. - Mercury is integrated with Plaid. Would you please explain the benefits it gives to your users? - Plaid enables companies that need access to your financial data, like Gusto, TransferWise, Wave, Bench, and American Express, to verify and communicate with your bank account. They've added us as a supported bank, meaning you can now connect your Mercury account to other business tools that use Plaid to link to banks. We are the future of banking, so it's crucial for us to have these integrations. - What is your killer feature? - We are pretty much the only place where you can sign up for a business checking account online as a startup. There are a few SMB challenger banks, but there's no startup-focused bank like us. That's probably a fairly good killer feature for everyone. But I would go for a "killer philosophy" rather than a "killer feature." And our philosophy is to build a great customer-facing online bank. - What are the worst things you've experienced with other banks in the past? - I hate those stupid password rules; those are killing me. You have to use a semicolon, capital letters, etc. That stuff is awful, and I don't think it's good for security. I had one bank where I didn't log in for a couple of months, and next time I logged in, nothing was there. I called them up, and they were like, "Oh, sorry, due to inactivity, we disabled your account." Banks still do crazy things. I could complain about that all day long. - Are you going to stick with your initial concept? Do you have plans to expand your offering? - We are looking to evolve the product, but Mercury is not moving away from the initial concept. We're going after startups and focusing on the product we have now. - Mercury is funded by some of Silicon Valley's sharpest investors. What made them believe in the team and the product? - I think people appreciate that the initial team worked together on other startups before. I also think that in terms of timing, the market was good. Startups have become a much more significant part of the economy, and they've gotten a lot of funding over the last four or five years. Also, startups serving other startups have become a much bigger overall trend. We started in 2017, and I've honed the idea mentally and explained it to people fairly well, I guess those are the elements. - Anyone who has an account with one of the major US banks knows how old-school big-name banks are. Their online banking and mobile apps seem useless in many ways. Most things still can't be done online, and you have to walk into the branch. Why do you think their functionalities are so limited online? - These banks are 100-year-old companies. It is natural for us to do everything online, but for them, it's just hard to think in that context. Another reason is that they don't have an in-house engineering team. There's also this very entrenched view that historically, people are okay going to branches. It was almost a benefit to talk to someone and get things done that way. I think there are a bunch of reasons for it, and there are just risk-averse organizations that haven't got the need for innovation — that's also an aspect. - Do you have a goal to obtain your banking license in the future? - It is not in our short or medium-term plans. Still, we might pursue it in the future, especially if the regulatory environment in the US gets better for fin-tech companies obtaining bank licenses. - I've heard that you've been working on Mercury silently for almost two years after raising the round. It almost feels like the opposite of the whole culture of the Bay Area — launch things fast, fix them later. What was the idea behind your approach? - When you are doing something difficult where there are lots of incumbents, and you need to make a 10x product, it makes sense to work on it for one to two years to deliver the best thing. If you are in a new market that is not served by any product, you can do a quick MVP and launch early. - Many banking startups have a very limited number of features when they launch (probably due to strict regulations), and then they slowly add new features month after month. What was surprising for me is that Mercury seemed like a fully-fledged bank with a lot of great features from day one. How did you accomplish this? - The problem with banking is that even the infrequently used features can be deal-breakers because when you need them, you need them. We wanted customers to have a great experience using Mercury, so we had to provide all of these features. - What's behind the name? - Mercury is the Roman god of financial gain. With the Mercury brand, we want to combine the old with the new. - Starting a bank is not the easiest thing to do. What would be your best advice to those who like working on hard things? - Break it down into achievable smaller steps and figure out how to do those.
