Do you use AI? AI is everywhere, from customer support bots to digital assistants like Alexa and Siri. AI is a part of our daily lives.

So how could it remain away from content writing? AI writing apps have been around for some time now. But it's ChatGPT that has taken the content writing world by storm.

So much so that using ChatGPT has become the latest job skill to have after coding. Research states that 9 out of 10 businesses hiring in recent times look for candidates with ChatGPT experience.

It has made quite a mark in the industry.

But what is ChatGPT, and why is it important for writers? It's time to find out the answers to these questions and more.

What Is ChatGPT?

Conversation Generated Predictive Text, that's the full form of ChatGPT. It's a natural language processing model that basically comes up with text depending on the context of a conversation.

To put it in simple words, it's an AI-powered tool that writes for you when you give it a prompt.

And the software is designed in a way with algorithms and machine learning so that the text it comes up with is relevant to the context.

Now, this kind of AI-backed writing software was available even before ChatGPT came into the picture. But what made OpenAI's ChatGPT so popular is its free tag. Yep, ChatGPT is free for everyone.

Just create an account on the OpenAI website, and log in to start using it.

Hence, more and more people who were not able to pay up for Jasper Ai or WriteSonic began working on ChatGPT.

Why Did ChatGPT Become So Important For Writers?

Having an AI-powered tool at your disposal is a blessing for any writer. It helps in more ways than one. And anyone who has used ChatGPT can tell you that.

Because not just content writers but also people with other job profiles are using this tool. From SEO specialists to social media marketers, everyone is utilizing ChatGPT for their work.

Studies show that about 70% of professionals use ChatGPT for work without their managers or supervisors even knowing about it.

So why is this tool so popular and important for writers? Well, because it has too many positive points, let's look into those-

  1. First of all, it's free, without any word limit.
  2. The next would be that ChatGPT is an AI with access to a lot of information. It does something called web-scraping, i.e., it literally scrapes the web for relevant information, and then provides you with content accordingly. For example, suppose you want ChatGPT to write a blog on ‘Productivity tips for content writers’ The AI will just need a prompt, and then it will pull up all the relevant information by itself from the web about tips and tricks for content writers to increase their productivity.
  3. It saves time. Type in the prompt properly, and it will write the content for you in no time.
  4. You can use it as many times as you want to regenerate your content if it isn't up to your satisfaction.
  5. You may be a blog writer or just a student who needs help with their assignments; ChatGPT is the go-to tool for everyone. You can get ChatGPT to generate any form of written content.
  6. Plus, it comes up with topics for you to write about. It does a brainstorming session on its own. Saving you the worry of coming up with topics to write about.
  7. Not just topics, ChatGPT has the ability to do keyword research and provide you with a list of relevant keywords for your topics. Give ChatGPT an instruction to present you with keywords for your piece like 'Why Coding is the Future?', and it will scavenge the web for you to come up with a list of keywords like - Web development, Coding education, etc.
  8. Proofreading and editing are again something that is made easier with ChatGPT. It will show you the mistakes and typos in your content so you can go back and edit them. As a result, you won't even need another app or person to help you with proofreading.
  9. On ChatGPT, you can also edit your commands in between the writing process. You can just click on a particular command and add more details to it or delete that command.

And all these benefits are very important for writers. For a writer who needs to type away 6-8 hours a day, these benefits are godsent.

And as said before, ChatGPT isn't something that is only used by content writers.

Businesses nowadays encourage their employees to make use of AI tools like ChatGPT so that they can get their work done faster and more efficiently. You can work in any field and still use ChatGPT for work.

You might be a business analyst who needs to write reports about a certain product or service. ChatGPT can take care of that for you within no time.

You just need to add the facts and info, and ChatGPT would spin a report around it.

How ChatGPT Can Help Writers Get A Job

Just like coding and other technical skills, having knowledge about ChatGPT is considered a job skill nowadays.

Why? Because for businesses, saving time, resources, and getting things done efficiently are what matters the most. And that's what ChatGPT does - it increases efficiency, speed, and reduces errors.

And any employer would want to hire someone who knows how to use ChatGPT properly. It will help the company increase its work output and reduce mistakes.

Again, studies say that about 91% of businesses nowadays look forward to getting employees who have used ChatGPT before.

So if you are someone who has worked with the tool, your chances of getting hired are much higher compared to someone who hasn't.

Which Industries Are Hiring for ChatGPT Experience

Well, as mentioned before, almost all kinds of businesses nowadays value ChatGPT experience over any other skill.

Whether sales, marketing, legal, healthcare, or news, all industries are looking for people who can use ChatGPT to get the job done.

And in the content writing sector, having knowledge of ChatGPT has become a necessity. Most content writers nowadays use it to write or make their content more interesting and relevant.

You can actually use it for coding as well. Yes, just like writing a blog, you can use it to write codes as well. It can write code snippets in different programming languages like Java, Python, C++, etc.

And it's very helpful for people who don't know much about coding but need to write pieces of code from time to time.

For example, you have a blog that you want to add a subscription form for. Usually, even for such simplest tasks non-coders like me would need help from a coder or friend.

But with ChatGPT, you can just enter the basic commands in a programming language, and it will generate the code for you in no time.

Suppose you give the command in Python with syntax and parameters, ChatGPT will generate the code snippet for you in Python.

For coders also, ChatGPT is a useful app. You can just put an end to typing long codes with a command in ChatGPT.

Disadvantages Of ChatGPT

ChatGPT may make the writing faster and easier, but it is still not perfect. The writing generated by this software will always require some editing from the writer.

  • It is not 100% accurate and may contain some errors and typos in it.
  • Plus the statistical data that the AI collects may not be up to date. So you need to double-check the accuracy of the data provided by ChatGPT before using it.
  • Also, ChatGPT has a habit of writing generic content. It doesn't provide many facts or info, and neither does it break down complex concepts into simpler terms for better understanding. So you may have to put in more effort from your side to make the content interesting and engaging.

Very few, but ChatGPT does have some flaws. That' even if companies or organizations use it, they would still have a human to supervise its results.

Ways Writers Can Use ChatGPT

Using ChatGPT is no rocket science; it's very easy. There's a typing space at the bottom for your command.

You can just type in the instructions like, "Write a copy for job post " along with all the other specifications like tone, word count, etc.

Then you just hit enter, and ChatGPT will start working on it for you immediately.

But you can do more than that with ChatGPT. Let me tell you about some ways in which you can use ChatGPT other than just for writing.

  1. Search for picture ideas - ChatGPT can’t generate pictures, it can only generate writings. But you can find picture ideas through ChaGPT. For example, suppose you have written a blog around justice and law. And you want to add a picture that represents ‘justice’. Here's where you can use ChatGPT for ideas. Just type in the command "Give me a picture idea for justice", and you'll get some ideas about the kind of pictures that can go with your blog. You might get the picture of a gavel, a courthouse, or a hand holding justice scales.
  2. Generate Title - If you’re done with the blog but still lacking an attention-grabbing title, then you can take the help of ChatGPT for that. Just copy-paste your article, and instruct the software to come up with an appropriate title; it will just do that.
  3. Target Your Audience Only - Using ChatGPT, you cans\ specifically target your chosen audience. For example, if you want your content to be written for medical professionals, you can specify that to ChatGPT, and it will generate content according to their specific needs.
  4. Ask For Search Engine Optimization Ideas - ChatGPT can actually suggest SEO ways for your blog. If you paste your article on the chat section and ask ChatGPT for SEO ideas, it will come up with some useful tips like using some of the phrases that are trending, words to optimize headings, and other ideas that you can use to make your blog more SEO friendly.

Will ChatGPT Replace Content Writers?

A survey carried out by Times Now states about 48% of companies using ChatGPT say that the software has already replaced workers.

From this research, it more or less means that ChatGPT is taking over the content writing industry.

But this isn't the whole truth. Yes, ChatGPT might be changing the dynamics of content writing and making it easier for writers to get their work done. But it can never replace the writers.

Why? Well, because if the writers are gone who will be there to make sense of ChatGPT's output and curate it?

You see, ChatGPT is software that follows instructions, and at the end of the day, it's another machine that can't think on its own. No matter how humane it might sound, it still needs humans to interpret its output.

Sure, it can generate content for you, but it can't decide on its own.

  • What kind of content should be written?
  • What kind of tone should be used?
  • How to make the content more interesting?
  • What will be the length?
  • What kind of wording will sound better?

Only a human can decide the answer to these kinds of questions. You need writers to give direction and meaning to the content.

Plus, decide which parts of the content generated by ChatGPT should be used and which ones should be discarded.

ChatGPT Is the Future

ChatGPT, an AI software, is definitely the future of content writing and is becoming a job requirement for many businesses.

Nowadays, if you know how to work on ChatGPT properly, then you will have an upper hand in the job market.

Because like coding, AI is also in-demand now, and businesses need workers who can use it to get things done efficiently.

ChatGPT is easy to use and can generate content quickly and accurately. Plus, it gives you the freedom to decide how the content should be.

It's great software, and if you're a writer, then it's better to know how to use it for your own benefit. You don't need to do a course or anything to use ChatGPT. Just keep experimenting with it, and you'll get a hang of it.
