Captain Marvel was teased during the mid-credits scene in Avengers: Infinity War, and fans immediately knew she was going to be a big deal. Not just any character was going to get teased at the end of Marvel’s biggest (at the time) movie ever.
So, people were understandably intrigued by the character. And although she’s had her own movie and has appeared in other Marvel projects here and there, people still might not know a ton about her. To help out with that, here are all of your Captain Marvel questions answered.
What you first need to know is that the Carol Danvers version of Captain Marvel is not the original Captain Marvel. The first Captain Marvel was an alien named Mar-Vell. He made his debut in 1967.
According to the LA Times, Carol Danvers wouldn’t arrive on the scene until a year later in 1968.
But The Washington Post states that it wouldn’t be until 2012 that Carol Danvers became Captain Marvel.
Roy Thomas and Gene Colan are the two men credited for creating Carol Danvers.
However, Stan Lee and Gene Colan are the two men who created Captain Marvel.
In the MCU, Captain Marvel is played by actress Brie Larson.
The Captain Marvel film takes place in the 90s. Chronologically, this film takes place before the majority of the other MCU films.
In the MCU, Captain Marvel is Carol Danvers. However, in the comics, tons of people have taken up the mantle. As stated earlier, Mar-Vell was the first one, but another notable character to become Captain Marvel was Monica Rambeau.
Rambeau is also in the MCU and will join forces with Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel in the film The Marvels.
The MCU version of Captain Marvel got her powers after destroying a special engine that was being powered up by the Tesseract. She gets caught in the explosion and develops superpowers.
How she got her powers in the comics is similar. After being caught in an explosion, Carol’s DNA merged with Mar-Vell’s which gives her powers.
Both in the comics and the MCU, Carol is very strong. Marvel.com gives her comic book version a 6 in durability and a 5 in strength. For reference, Captain America is given a three in both categories, Spider-Man is given a 3 and a 4, and the Hulk is given a perfect score of 7 in both.
Although we don’t know exactly how strong she is in the films, she looks to be one of the strongest Avengers yet. She is easily seen taking out one of Thanos’ warships, and she even goes toe-to-toe with Thanos while he’s wearing the full Infinity Gauntlet.
Captain Marvel is one of Marvel’s most prominent women characters, and even though she’s been around since the 60s, her story is far from over.
