Sometimes it can be easy to feel like the challenges our world faces are insurmountable… that the violence, injustice, poverty, disease and the everyday struggle of most of the world will never be overcome.
Even if you’re blessed to live in the western world where we enjoy so many of life’s comforts (by and large), it’s safe to say that just about every one of us will experience tough times, tragedy and “dark nights of the soul” at some point during our lifetimes. A personal set-back or tragedy, even if not on the scale of global terrorism, can feel even more life-altering and morph into a black hole of negative thinking that quickly engulfs your motivation, energy and ability to be the person you want to be.
Because life can be so brutal and randomly cruel, it’s so incredibly important that the heart-centered, loving people of the world use every opportunity to shine their lights and dispel the darkness. Every one of us has the power to stand as beacons of hope and goodness so that others can be uplifted by our presence, words and work in the world. What you do and how you live makes a difference not just on a personal level, but on a global one, too.
So, when you find yourself feeling knocked down and your faith in yourself and life has taken a hit, how can you get back up and move forward again?
You simply choose to. You consciously make the decision to respond instead of react and not give up your power to the circumstances around you.
You can be in turmoil without becoming lost to it.
That being said, my life has not been immune to loss and hardship and I appreciate the devastating power tragedy can wield in an attempt to wreck one’s will and life. My heart goes out to the individuals and families impacted by the recent violence, as well as those struggling to make it every day.
I’ve assembled some of my most beloved quotes that have served to uplift and empower me when times have gotten tough, plus I’ve added a few of my own empowering words. I hope you can draw inspiration from them and that they speak to your heart as much as they do mine.
As always, I’d love to hear from you.
