Campaigns and news outlets experimenting a bit with VR

This is not the first time virtual reality is used for a political event during this election season: in September last year, CNN streamed a Democratic debate in 360 for Samsung Gear VR headset users

Thanks to Youtube and Facebook, this year, both conventions brought virtual reality to the political stage: from the DemConvention live streaming the entire event in 360, to the GOP Convention broadcasting speeches and behind the scenes.

Many news organizations used VR to report from Cleveland and Philadelphia.

The Associated Press digital team posted outtakes and background videos form the sites of the conventions.

NBC, CNN, and PBS — and many others — did the same with highlights and speeches broadcasted in 360.
