Cryptocurrency is not a substitute for government money, it’s an alternative to the traditional financial system. Like other transformational technologies, cryptocurrency does not improve on the status quo or represent a natural progression. Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBCDs) will probably evolve as steam cars did in the 19th Century. Government leaders need more time to think about how to implement a new financial system from their hands, says Mark Helfman. Anybody with an entire world of innovators working to make it better, he says.
