That’s a good observation. While true, I don’t think it’s material for several reasons:

* Yes, the judge’s son works at Microsoft. It’s not public what he does there but based on some quick research, I think the person is not working at a senior enough capacity that they would have enough monetary upside (or downside) from this whole ruling.
* FTC could’ve appealed to have the judge removed which they did not; this likely means they did not see a major conflict of interest.
* There (unfortunately) is no law today stopping judges and elected representatives to not trade in individual stocks; this is pretty egregious and there is maybe bipartisan consensus building on fixing this, but it is what it is today.

Hypothetically, let’s say that what you are point out is real concern. That does not explain their other losses (like Meta/Within) and cases that have gone nowhere (like Amazon/Roomba).
