Too Long; Didn't Read

The X-Men have always been a popular superhero group. The one and only Wolverine gained more fame than the others. This led to the character getting his own film trilogy. The Wolverine trilogy does a great job of diving into the Wolverine’s life. Here are the Wolverine movies in order to understand the character's origin story and relationship with his brother Sabretooth. Logan, the third film in the series, is correctly considered the best out of the entire Wolverine trilogy. After living for almost two centuries, Logan is not in good shape as he can't heal as well as he used to heal.

The X-Men have always been a popular superhero group. They were popular with comic readers; then their popularity jumped even higher with their 90’s cartoon show. But the group hadn’t even begun to peak yet; their live-action movies would soon take them to a whole other level.

However, there was one X-Men, in particular, that would gain more fame than the others; that would be the one and only Wolverine. This isn’t that surprising, he was the star of the majority of the X-Men movies. And it was this stardom that led to the character getting his own film trilogy.

If you only casually know of the character and want to know more about him, the film trilogy does a great job of diving into the Wolverine’s life. So, here are the Wolverine movies in order.

All of the Wolverine Movies in Order

  1. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
  2. The Wolverine
  3. Logan

1. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

The title of this movie is very self-explanatory. It’s the origin story of Logan, and it shows how he becomes the Wolverine. Now, the problem with telling the origin story of this character is that he’s lived for a really long time.

So, condensing it into 2 hours leaves a lot of potential material out. However, the film does its best.

Most of the film explores the tumultuous relationship between Wolverine and his brother Sabretooth. Together since they were kids, their relationship becomes strained throughout the decades.

Having to live with your sibling for over a century will ruin any relationship, regardless of how close you guys are.

Another big aspect of the film is Wolverine’s career in the military. It does make sense that someone who can never die joins the military, but this alters the character’s life forever and leads to tragedy.

This movie gets a lot of criticism, and a lot of it is rightly deserved. However, it does have some shining moments. Plus, the movie’s opening credits scene is so great that it automatically makes X-Men Origins: Wolverine a must-see.

2. The Wolverine (2013)

So Logan, the third film in the series, is correctly considered the best out of the entire Wolverine trilogy. However, this sometimes overshadows The Wolverine which is also a good movie.

You don’t have to watch any of the X-Men movies to understand the Wolverine Origins movie, but it is somewhat required to watch the first three X-Men movies to understand parts of The Wolverine.

But if you don’t have time for that, let me give you a rundown. Logan needs a break from everything right now, but he especially needs a break from the X-Men. Luckily, he gets an invitation to go to Japan from a man he once saved.

Well, it’s not so lucky because he finds himself in the middle of this conflict that tests the limits of the superhero.

3. Logan (2017)

Logan marks the end of the character’s film trilogy. After living for almost two centuries, Logan is not in good shape. He can’t heal as well as he used to, his claws can’t come out like they used to, and he’s getting older.

Logan and Professor X just want to live the rest of their lives in peace far away from the public. But Logan, as usual, gets roped into another dangerous situation. A mysterious young girl needs help, and things get even messier when she appears to have ties to Logan’s past.

Although Logan is the last film in the trilogy, it was just recently announced that the character would be returning to the big screen in Deadpool 3.

The Wolverine movies may be done, but the character still lives on.
