Unfortunately, the stats (all of them are lies) say that 80% of the workforce hate their job or work. Which also means 20% love working!
There’s something wrong in the picture below. The interchange of job and work. If your job didn’t feel like work, then it wouldn’t be work! So what is the ultimate productivity secret?
Plain and simple. If you’re happy, not just in work, but as a person. The rest of your life seems like a breeze. And you get a tonne of shit done!
Now here’s the problem, some people are hardwired. Hardwired not to be happy. I wouldn’t call them depressed, just people who don’t realize what they have, don’t even appreciate the journey they’re on.
One day I met up with an older German venture capitalist, a Dr. Schmidt (made up name, but the person is real). As far as venture capitalists go, this guy was pretty jovial. I asked the gentleman, “Sir, with all due respect… you seem to be very happy. What is the secret?”
“Jose, I don’t have a boss.”
Which got me thinking, perhaps the saying that you leave your organization not because of your job, but because of your boss was true. But you have to read in between the lines. Watch the video, and we’ll talk…
One is a destination, one is current state… know the difference.
Now here’s the problem, we’re accustomed to comfortable, to certain, to everything that’s wrong. And we know it’s wrong, because it’s not right… we’re not happy. We’re not successful, we have the symbols of success, but we’re not successful.
And every time I ask friends who say they’re not happy with the job, what they’re doing about it. It draws a blank.
There comes a time when you ought to start doing what you want. Take a job that you love. You will jump out of bed in the morning. I think you are out of your mind if you keep taking jobs that you don’t like because you think it will look good on your resume.
