The proposed UK Online Safety Bill has once again fueled the decades-old encryption debate. The bill includes provisions that could require messaging app companies to implement content moderation policies that would only be possible to comply with by compromising end-to-end encryption. This does not sit right with the messaging app companies that employ encryption to provide user privacy. Governments across the globe have long been at odds with the tech giants when it comes to encryption, hoping they could find a middle ground.
