The rise of NFTs has coincided with the spread of the pandemic and the shutdown of tourism and world travel has forced museums to think outside of the box. The rise has led to a new way of thinking about value, authenticity, and ownership of art. Manhattan's New Museum was one of the first to adopt the technology by announcing a program of events meant to open discussions about the prospect of transitioning to the digital world. New York's Hermitage Museum, the world-first full-time NFT museum, opened doors this year this year to explore the potential of this technology.
