The world of the metaverse redefines the way entertainment works and creates a unique, fun experience for people online. The metaverse in the entertainment industry is expected to increase up to $28.92 billion in 2026, according to a Technavio report. There is an increase in the use of advanced gaming technology as well as changing entertainment choices that will accelerate market growth over the years. KPMG research predicts online gaming will reach 510 million people in 2022, a substantial increase from 360 million in 2020.

Metavertainment: The World of The Metaverse and Entertainment

The metaverse is one of the most discussed topics in the tech world for a good reason: individuals and organizations know that there is a goldmine of opportunities in the world of the metaverse. These opportunities explored have evolved from gaming to finance and even entertainment. The world of the metaverse redefines the way entertainment works and creates a unique, fun experience for people online.

"Metavertainment" is a fun word I coined to mean a combination of the metaverse and entertainment. In today's article, we will be exploring the concept of metavertainment, how it influences gaming, fun themes, and the future of the world of the metaverse and entertainment. The metaverse itself provides entertainment for its users: there is a different reality that allows you to travel from one location to another without additional cost. You can visit theme parks, tourist locations and play games all while having fun.

There are 3D movie theaters, music concerts, and sports events on the metaverse available for users in different locations. Artists like BTS, and Imagine Dragons, among others, have begun to create virtual concerts for their beloved fans: and many more will adopt the metaverse for the creation of fun content. Imagine all these possibilities on the metaverse: immersive virtual experiences, reduced costs, and multiple options, on the internet. 

How The Metaverse and Entertainment Influences Gaming

The metaverse in the entertainment industry is expected to increase up to $28.92 billion in 2026, according to a Technavio report. There is an increase in the use of advanced gaming technology as well as changing entertainment choices that will accelerate market growth over the years. In addition, according to KPMG research, online gaming will reach 510 million people in 2022. This is a substantial increase from 360 million in 2020. This means that more people will enjoy fun games online: there will be rapid growth in the entertainment industry and increased traction in the world of gaming. In addition, there will be more effective integration of gaming services into the services offered by major entertainment brands and increased investment to create more immersive gaming and entertainment experiences for gamers.

Hollywood and the gaming industry have a unique relationship: both influence each other's content and share a collective audience. As the metaverse grows, there are more collaborations geared toward a future of metaverse entertainment.

In these collaborations, there is room for co-creation and audiences can interact with content in new innovative ways. In February of 2022, Tik-Tok was used for marketing campaigns for major motion pictures like "Spider Man: No Way Home," and it showed great promise in the future of feature film marketing.

Earlier in January 2022, Sony Pictures TV announced plans for a movie made using the Playstation game-builder, "Dreams." The movie animation, "A Winter's Journey" was said to include live actors, computer generated and hand-painted characters. It would be the first feature film to use Dreams technology. In the same January of 2022, Netflix announced its plans to build its own gaming unit from scratch. This establishes the fact that more organizations in the entertainment and gaming industries are realizing the wonders that could result from a mutual connection.

Fun Concepts In Metavertainment 

There are many fun concepts in metavertainment that I find very interesting: you can find them listed below.

Video games: Video games provide an engaging environment for playing and interacting with other gamers. Video games like Second Life, Minecraft, and Roblox represent the first wave in Metaverse development.

In video games, players can use virtual materials to build items that their avatars use, buy property and in some cases, convert game assets to cryptocurrency tokens or fiat. Some video games have incorporated entertainment into the gaming process: Fortnite has evolved beyond a typical Hunger Game style game, you can hang out with friends or watch a movie. The game has hosted concerts with musicians like Travis Scott and Ariana Grande. In a game like Beat Saber, you can compete in games where your body moves to the rhythm of Lady Gaga and Billie Ellish. There are many other games tailored for music and movie lovers to play for fun.

Virtual concerts: Imagine the possibility of watching your favorite music artist perform from the comfort of your couch with your VR/AR device or a computer. The best part of it all is that you get an immersive experience on the metaverse and all participants in the concert will be represented by their avatars. The Sandbox, a popular virtual gaming platform that allows its users to build their own world, hosts music concerts.

Rapper Snoop Dogg released an exclusive metaverse video over his song "House I Built" from the album B.O.D.R on the Sandbox in April 2022. The Sandbox also entered a partnership with Warner Music Group (WMG) in January 2022 to create the first music-themed world in the platform's metaverse for music lovers.

Theme parks: Theme parks are fun places to visit and the Metaverse is giving users the opportunity to visit these parks online. AstroWorld, an American theme parkas demolished in 2005 was announced to be returning as a virtual theme park in the metaverse in the third quarter of 2022.

The theme park's map and the official website were launched in the first quarter of this year while exchange listings and AstroWorld Beta unveilings were held in the second quarter. According to a press release, AstroWorld will be the first amusement park built on the blockchain and will be similar to a real amusement park. Visitors will be granted access by purchasing tickets with an AstroWorld token or AstroWorld NFT. In addition, Walt Disney patented a virtual world simulator that would help theme park visitors engage with Disney characters virtually in December 2021.

Metaverse cinema: Movies are fun to watch: the whole movie watching experience gets better with the Metaverse. Innovative directors and producers are using augmented reality and virtual reality to create better movie watching experiences. Directors can even film 360 degree footage to make you feel like you are in the movie: people can be transported to virtual cinemas in different virtual locations all over the world and made to experience what it is like to be there in person. In addition, a lot of the technology developed in video games will be used in making movies. In the near future, directors will be able to make movies where content is generated with AI and you will interact with characters and settings based on your own choices. This will give you a fun, personalized movie watching experience and you will also have the opportunity to enjoy behind-the-scenes footage.

E-Sports: There is a projection that in 2023, there will be over 46 million people watching ESports events. Currently, most of these events are streamed online on streaming platforms like YouTube and Twitch. These platforms do not provide the experience of being there live to watch your favorite players. The Metaverse provides you the opportunity to be in a virtual audience, at a virtual venue as a member of the audience. You get to feel the vibes of the crowd and interact with other gamers in the same virtual space. You can attend different ESports tournaments, have fun, build gaming communities and showcase your gaming skills on the metaverse.

The Future of The World of the Metaverse and Entertainment

In the years to come, it is a sure fact that the dual worlds of the Metaverse and entertainment will expand beyond human imagination both individually and in cohesion with each other. In July of 2022, Meta Hollywood announced that it would build a first of its kind virtual Hollywood themed backlot movie studio in the metaverse as a collaboration with the Sandbox and the Planet Hollywood group.

Visitors to Meta Hollywood's LAND in The Sandbox will be able to tour themed sets such as those for action and horror, as well as see red carpet premiere events besides a museum. Several corporate giants are either getting involved with the Metaverse or making plans to jump on the train: from Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Nike, Coca-Cola, Hyundai, among others. 


The Metaverse provides media and entertainment experiences with a converged world of interoperable spaces where users can choose from multiple entertainment venues, events, and services based on individual preferences. The users can interact with each other and engage with unfamiliar, yet acutely familiar surroundings.

The costs of travel for physical events is reduced and visitors can be invited all over the world. Sports betting is also a profitable application of the metaverse for media and entertainment. Virtual reality allows you to observe the game and make better betting decisions.

Leading artists like Imagine Dragons, Travis Scott, BTS, Muse, Post Malone and several others have held virtual reality concerts. Metavertainment will provide venues where multiple musical artists can perform. The Metaverse will create better user options for a more personalized experience. The best part of the Metaverse is that it fulfills the human desire to connect with a community, interact and share experiences: this feature will take the entertainment world by storm.
