We Need to Talk About www

TLDRvia the TL;DR App

Note: this is kind-of complainey

Why? Just why?

I know that it doesn’t make much of a difference — www means that this is the main page — but there just isn’t any reason to use it.

And besides, it looks unprofessional and makes your website look like a child dressing up to look like an adult so he can see an R rated movie.

Because that’s essentially what it is — something young and immature dressed up as something old and mature. The actual website looks amazing, way better than the rudimentary 1990s web pages that some of you remember (I wasn’t born yet.) the services are sophisticated; There’s a fully functional and secure SSL certificate; there’s even all of those newfangled “meta” tags in the <head> of the HTML documents.

But the URL contains www — which is totally off-putting to me.

It’s just… I don’t know… I’m making the biggest deal out of something almost insignificant. But to me, a website with “www” before their domain is just dumb. We’re over the obsession with the fact that the internet is indeed a thing that exists, we don’t need to be reminded of it every time we visit a website. And besides, we already know we’re on the world wide web, we’re not idiots.

Not having www also just makes me remember websites 10 times better. I don’t wanna memorize www.google.com, I can just memorize google.com, it’s much cleaner. It also makes your brand stand out, especialy if you have one of thoose fancy domains like “.deals” or “.beauty”.
