TLDR A browser's journey begins with a Uniform Resource Locator, or, as it's more commonly referred to as, a URL. The process is known as the Domain Name System (DNS) Lookups are initially performed through use of a root server. The browser will start by searching its own cache, then the OS cache then the router and ISP cache. After successfully locating the IP address the browser is ready to make a request for data.
