The interest in AI has spiked dramatically this year, as the global market has a projected increase of twenty times by 2030. Despite this increase in interest, many experts have still been left wondering if AI has what it takes to grow without human intervention.
Artificial intelligence is growing and learning rapidly, quickly becoming a very important part of the worldwide technology mix. Global adaptation of AI technology is also on the rise, with countries like China, Canada, and the United Kingdom leading in both exploration and use. The majority of people expect that their lives will change significantly due to AI in the next 3-5 years in several different areas of society.
Much of this expected impact is due to ChatGPT, as it has become one of the biggest players in AI development. The site hit 100 million monthly active users in January 2023, becoming the quickest-growing application in technological history.
Despite these feats, AI is far from perfect, and is not self-sustaining. In fact, AI has made many mistakes in the past that have proven its inability to fully take the place of human work. Artificial intelligence currently lacks human soft skills, such as creativity, empathy, and teamwork. It also is unable to make certain judgment calls, explain why it came to certain conclusions, or select important data out of a set. Still, some AI are intelligent enough to pass as a real human. It is for this reason that many leaders are warning against the further development of AI.
In the wrong hands, AI development can quickly get out of control and potentially turn catastrophic. However, with proper human guidance, AI may be able to expand and unlock positive potential with the human element. With the help of humans, AI may be able to feel human emotions, exercise common sense, and even multitask on several projects at once.
Although AI is considered a very highly intelligent form of technology, there is very much that AI can learn from humans. The development of this very advanced software has become a team effort, with both humans and technology working in tandem to ensure a positive trajectory of artificial intelligence.
