Imagine opening a dashboard that shows how AI systems see you. It lists your interests, the traits they have assigned to you and the data that built that profile. Now imagine being able to change or delete that data or even get rewarded if it helps improve a model.

This idea is no longer a fantasy. Policies like the EU AI Act and frameworks from NIST and the Partnership on AI already explore ways to give people more visibility and control.


This approach puts humans back in control and instead of being a passive data source, people become active participants. They control how and why AI learns.

Shared Responsibility

At the crux of making AI transparent and ethical, we all have an important role to play.

It is the responsibility of Policymakers to create rules and regulations that encourage honesty from businesses. At its core these regulations should protect people.
Businesses need to be more open and transparent about how data and AI influence their products and decisions - not just focus on the bottom line.
Developers should be mindful and develop systems which are ethical that consume data that is necessary.
And finally, users need to stay curious and ask how these systems affect the way they live, work and interact with the world around them.


Once all of this happens, AI would stop being just a tool for prediction but would become an integral part of our lives that enriches it many ways.

The Way Forward

AI’s real strength lies not just in processing data but in influencing what we do and how we think - it should not feel like an interaction in a silo but an integral part of our world that we can control. If we want a digital world that is fair and trustworthy, we should have transparency and have mechanisms in place to take control.


The systems of the future should be clear and open and should reflect our best intentions rather than our blind spots. AI will continue to grow smarter but what will truly define its future is whether it also grows wiser. The challenge is making it more accountable and more human at the same time.
