TLDR Charles Bachman introduced the first database management system in 1962. The Integrated Data Store (IDS) was created for disk storage and high-level programming. In 1969, the Committee of Data Systems Languages (CODASYL) released a report proposing a standard for database management. The report drew heavily from IDS and the network data model.
